[Q] Wildfire Android Updates and Rooting? - Wildfire General

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|||RESOLVED FOR NOW -- PLEASE LET KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY UPDATES CHEERS th3ant|||
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hi,
No in depth answer required, if I wanted one I would go to the development page.
I was just wondering what people know about Official Android Updates coming to the Wildfire? When? Which version?
And also any news on the Roots for more recent versions (2.2.1) for the Wildfire? How is the unrEVOked team getting on?
Only time will tell.... I was just catching up on the latest news!
Cheers in Advanced for any decent answers.
th3ant

1: Official updates coming to the WIldfire - Probably never. 2.2.1 is all they will stop at. While there is no news page that will confirm or deny this, this is the general consensus, and more so, because the Wildfire S is now released.
2: Root for 2.2.1 - Nothing announced yet, no ETA for release. Nothing to do except wait.

HTC said in official news that Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread with HTC Sense will be released only for desire series. But considering Google should optimize their build for processors slower than 800mhz, there is still a hope. Well, all we can expect a custom ROM of Android 2.3 with HTC Sense.
And no ETA on root of 2.2 froyo yet, I am also looking for the same. I'm sure there will be a sticky once it is out.

Thanks.

HTC Wildfire and Froyo SO

Good afternoon everyone. Does the HTC Wildfire will be as desired Froyo? It would be fantastic...
So, nobody knows if the Froyo (Android 2.2) will equip the Wildfire?
As every review says, it won't. It will be 2.1 Android. And I heard some saying Froyo requires ARMv7 processor architecture and Wildfire has ARMv6. So...
And why do ya need this Froyo? So nifty features of Android 2.2?
Root it and create a custom rom with froyo (it's not realy tht simple but owell..)
with custom toms on the hero it can run froyo ad the wildfire is slightly faster than hero soo it should be able to run
Maybe...
I read about that possibility here:
The HTC Desire will be among the first batch of HTC phones to get an Android Froyo update. The Taiwanese handset slinger has confirmed that it and US phones like the HTC Droid Incredible and HTC Evo 4G are in line for the icy upgrade. But others like the HTC Legend don’t get a name check…
In an official statement HTC says: “If your phone was launched this year, we will most likely offer an upgrade for it to the Froyo version.” The statement then names the HTC Desire as among the initial chosen ones.
Other Android-packing HTC smarties like the HTC Legend and HTC Wildfire could still be in luck. The statement continues: “We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades.”
The statement foes on to note that HTC is working with Google and other partners to make sure that the HTC Sense UI plays nice with Android Froyo.
The long-delayed HTC Hero Android upgrade is apparently down to the difficulties of integrating Sense so we’ve got our fingers crossed that mixing it up with Froyo is a little easier.
HTC says its hopeful that all the Android 2.2 upgrades will be completed in the second half of this year. Let us know what phone and version of Android you’re currently toting.

Cant wait for CM6 or ota 2.2
Support HTC Wildfire Campaign
Are you are as fed up as me and countless other HTC Wildfire owners, waiting for the Froyo 2.2 update that is always coming but never gets here? I have a campaign running on my blog to demand a solid answer from HTC. As it stands HTC won't confirm or deny anything concerning this topic. Fair enough, they might be delayed and that would be forgiveable if they could at least be up front and reassure us that we will be getting the update, just a couple of months late. Please vote on my poll or add a comment. I am particularly interested in any responses you may have had from HTC in regards to this. Help to lobby HTC.
You can find the poll at: 'HTC Wildfire Android Heaven' (I am not allowed to post the url at the moment)
I wish they would hurry the **** with it tbh...

When/If there will be an official 2.2 for the Aria

I've seen lots of information flying around on Engadget and the like about HTC 2.2 updates forthcoming, but I have yet to see anything at all about the Aria.
Does anyone have any idea if HTC / AT&T intend to update the Aria to 2.2? Of course I know if they don't, we have some guys working hard on unofficial versions. Just would like to know if we'll get anything official...
HTC has stated they're working on it, and they "hope to have it done by christmas" but I wouldn't hold my breath for it to get thru HTC and AT&T for the Aria by then. Last I can remember, the HTC Wildfire was listed as getting the update and the Aria is very similar to said device. I also recall hearing that HTC said all the devices released past a certain point this year (Aria falls within this range) will be getting 2.2. I'm sure the Aria will get it, but again, I wouldn't hold my breath, CM6 will most likely be in full functioning order before official Froyo
Will definitely be trying out CM6 as soon as it gets in a little more working order! Definitely not holding my breath on HTC + AT&T...especially not the AT&T part of that equation.
Nothing official about the Aria, but HTC Evo is getting some official 2.2 Froyo loving tomorrow.
Maybe with that, we can hope for an earlier release for the Aria.
I wont hold my breath, the Motorola Back flip have been out for how long and its still on the launch firmware. ATT will take their sweet time when HTC releases it to them, best chance is that someone here gets their hand on is and bakes a 2.2 with HTC Sense rom for Aria users to flash with.

Considering how the Backflip went, this isn't surprising. Why could a company back a device that isn't doing much on it's own already?
Might be coming sooner than some of you expect. HTC seems to be getting serious about froyo

Granted we'll have to deal with att.
I think we will see one, but it will be a pain to install. The phone, for whatever reason, cannot accepted over-the-air (OTA) updates... there's no option in the settings to see if there is an update like most other android phones. HTC has said you will need to use HTC sync to upgrade. (Though I'm sure many of the people here at xda will have no problem loading the ROM via Sync or other ways, for regular users this could be a pain.)
Thought I'd share. I found this bit of info on the htc support forums in the aria section.

Whne there is an update for the Aria-it will have to be loaded from a PC to your device. The good news is that after the first update for the Aria, Firmware Over The Air will be implemented so that any subsequent updates will arrive to your device over the Air once their are released. Currently, there are no updates for the Aria OS-they are in the works.
So it is quite possible we may be getting froyo because she said it's "in the works." One of the other HTC forum moderators said it may take a while because it will be "tested and approved" by att and that we'll need to update it via sync.
So from what I understand, she said after the first update, there will be more updates released OTA. Froyo is gonna be a sync update so when she says any subsequent updates will arrive, does that mean she's hinting we'll be getting updates past froyo? Maybe we'll be able to get 3.0 ;P I mean what other updates will there be? lol
I'd LOVE to get 3.0, but I'll be happy with 2.2.
There is a post at Unwired review (can't post link until my account is verified.. not sure if there is a way to 'request' to be verified), but it's from Unwired Review. Just google "Android 3 Gingerbread."
But then there was an update to the post:
Update: I posted an update to this post, where I address Dan Morrill’s tweet, and do some corrections/clarifications regarding the upcoming Android update number issues, “minimum” specs – thay are actually only “recommended”, and the the split between high end Android 3 – low end Android 2.2 devices – it’s not an official Google policy, but it is happening nonetheless.

So could we get it? Yes. And I think with the speed htc is pushing out the updates, it's not a question for them of "do we update the aria," it's the same question for many of their phones, since so many htc android phones are similiar inside and out.
Froyo for the Aria is something I have been looking forward to for a while now, and seeing it any later than October would be a huge letdown.

HTC DHD and Android 2.4

Does anyone knows if the DHD will get the Android 2.4???
As I read 2.4 will be like 2.3 in general lines...
So I was wondering if it could be possible or HTC starts to behaves like Motorola how doesn't yet unlocked the Milestone's bootloader???
Will HTC lock the phone when release the 2.3 update or HTC will follow the excellent policy to give the sources to developers???
If anyone knows to answer my questions cause I am confused with all these I am reading about HTC locks the latest update...
We haven't even got 2.3 yet. Be patient.

Hmm how many versions up did the original Desire go up throughout its lifecycle so far?
I believe this would be a good indicator as to what to expect from DHD itself.

Don't forget guys that the desire was almost the same with nexus one...
The thing I am actually asking is if anyone have any information if HTC changing policy about unlocking it's devices... If HTC in future will release updates that could not be possible to root to have costum ROMs etc...
As Motorola made with Milestone that never unlocked the bootloader or kernel...
That is what i'm asking in first post...
Because I think since now HTC encourage developers with the policy that followed...
These posts make me laugh, really laugh)

the DHD is NAND locked, to prevent malicious software fiddling with the /system folder, we have root on older firmware through an exploit, HTC have fixed this exploit on subsequent updates, now you have to downgrade to ROOT, i would expect HTC to make it harder in future to downgrade thus protecting more devices from the exploit. That is not a change in behaviour we have root because people chose to exploit a weak link in the armour, I expect that to continue as well
We haven't got 2.3 yet.

This is the first time I've read about the G2 getting it as well. If it's true, then it's great news that we aren't being neglected.
Yeah i thought that at first matey
but those are HTC's exact words so it must be official
i cant wait... i do like custom roms but having an update that will be stock gingerbread to work off will be great. if the devs can get it rooted and s-off and maybe remove some of the rubbish we dont need then we will have a clean, rooted reliable stock rom which will be great... although as its stock it may need a few bug fixes but generally it should be pretty stable
You know, I just emailed HTC about the G2 the other day and the guy basically replied that they give updates based in carrier request, and they had not yet received an update request from t-mobile for the g2 as of this weekend.
So either my guy had no idea what her was talking about, or your guy is lying.

really mate?
oh right well i hope it is coming to Desire Z and G2
that list is exactly what i have in my email.
i might question HTC support about the matter, just to see what they have to say, with they had a page which they posted future rom updates, it would make it a lot more easier and exciting lol

News 2.3 update

Any news guys about the long waited for 2.3 ??
(Last news was it will be released on the first 1/2 of April)
Awwwwhhhh, by your thread title and the devil avatar - you had me going there that their was some more news on this!
From what I have gathered, the last I heard and saw yesterday was that the network Three UK announced via Twitter that they are going to be rolling out Android 2.3 very shortly for their branded DHD's and that it was still in the testing stages - other rumours and reports suggested that Three UK won't be rolling it out until May time now but nothing has been confirmed.
Most reports suggest that the un-branded users will get the Android 2.3 update first before the branded users - but still, no date has been announced apart from that it was expected sometime in April.
In my opinion though, from what Three UK have announced - I don't think that both the branded & un-branded users won't officially see Android 2.3 at all now until May time or possibly slightly later.

my apologies if the title & the avatar are misleading.
hopefully we (branded & unbranded users) all will get it around the same time, unlike the 1.84 which I'm still waiting for, Convinced myself us the unbranded users will never get that update. currently stock with buggy 1.72.
I agree with you Liam, we will get the update much later then the end of April .
I have the inspire 4g which is the same as the desire hd and I am not sure when we are getting the update I rooted and installed the Shokouhi Super Ace rom with the leedroid kernel and now I don't want the update I have tried a few roms but this one has been the best I can overclock to 1804
CM7 is already available, for your gingerbread fix and as a plus it will get rid of Sense as well.
No need to appologize for the title, I found it amusing afterwards lol!
If we do get the Gingerbread update very soon then it's likely that we will not see the 1.84 update and I reckon that the Gingerbread update will indeed be the next OTA update.
According to another article I read the other day about the Gingerbread update - Besides the DHD, Gingerbread is also going to be released for the older Desire, Desire Z, The Incredible S & a couple of other models that I can't remember the names of.
Latest news today - Three UK have confirmed that they will be rolling out the Gingerbread update for their branded DHD's in the middle of may;

That's HTC Desire, not Desire HD.
Oops - my bad! :/
Surely though, if it's coming to the older Desire - then that means it will definately come to the DHD shortly.

What I don't understand is why release the 1.84 update for branded DHD's but not the unbranded ones. When clearly branded and unbranded users have been effected by there buggy very buggy 1.73 build.
