ok so apparently there 2 ways to do a reset
1. go into recovery then use the volume rocker to select it
2. go to settings>privacy to select it
i have upgraded via upgrade.zip, so i'm wondering:
- are these two methods the same thing? if not, what's the difference?
- would either of them reset me back to eclair?
thank you
Thanks for asking this, a bump because I'm curious too as I am glass half-empty about major upgrades and expect to have to do this at least once...LOL.
Are u trying to go back to eclair from froyo? If so the onlh way back is to burn the di18 rom with odin.

Obviously you didn't read. They want to know if both hard reset procedures do the exact same hard reset.
bump . . . . .
They should both do the same thing, wipe the data partition.
Neither of them will put you back on eclair, just a fresh eb13.

I've had my Fascinate for a few weeks now and I'm in love. But now that I've gotten relatively comfortable with Android and all of the tweaking that's available I'd like to start from scratch and root, lag fix, etc. with confidence! So, my question is, how should I go about getting back to square one? Hard reset, Odin to stock, something else? What do I need to take into account before going through with this?
Thanks,
EJ
Odin restore will give u root, do do that, reset from privacy menu, and if ur feeling froggy. Format ur sd card just make sure to disable and lag fix first

So, you're suggesting:
1) Privacy menu reset
2) Odin
-or-
1) Odin
2) Privacy menu reset
???
And is it necessary to disable my lag fix?
so.....here I am yet again asking/begging/kissing booty to get some help on correcting my NOOB mistake.
I downloaded RSDLite....and tried to unroot back to stock firmware. I downloaded what I thought was the stock firmware:
DROID2_X6_2.2.20_SHADOW_BP_C_01.09.05P_P2_USERBLD_SECURE.sbf
and now I have a nice baby blue Triangle where my 3G would show...and oh yeah I can't connect to the network at all.
I was unrooting because:
1) I can't use live wallpapers for some reason, don't have the option when I hold down the homescreen and figured I messed up so wanted to wipe my system clean.
2) I heard 2.3 update takes your root away, I tried to update OTA and(wow I just realized that means OverTheAir) and it keeps failing upon installation.
now I a stuck with a 2.2 brick lol....but not really lol...

Which ROM was on you phone before you flashed? Did you flash the ROM only, or did you flash the Modem also? Did you wipe data, cache, and dalvik before you flashed the ROM?
Well I'm completely new to the rooting thing and I di the one click root then the leaked froyo and everything works great except gps and I didn't clear anything.

Did you use Odin to flash the DK17 Modem before flashing the ROM. If not, you need to start over.
While you were in ClockworkMod Recovery, you should have wiped your data, your cache, and cleared the dalvik cache before flashing the ROM.

Froyo beta deodexed v4.2

There's a funny trick with that 4.2 DJ29 leak. For some people, if we don't follow a certain procedure when flashing it, we lose GPS altogether.
If you want to use that rom follow these instructions:
Boot into clockworkmod and wipe everything to go back to stock.
Flash DI18 update from this thread using clockworkmod
Now boot the phone and get a gps lock. You may have to reboot again to get it going.
Reboot into clockwork and flash the dj29 2.2 rom you have without wiping
Boot into DJ29 and confirm gps works
Then you can go back and wipe the cache if you want, but I personally didn't run into issues not doing that.
If you go to the newer DK05 or DK17 builds, then you have to use odin to flash the modem which gets you better gps. After flashing the modem with odin, you reboot into recovery, wipe, and flash rom. This is actually easier than all the hoops you have to jump through for the dj29 builds, but some people have a hard time with odin.
Where do I get odin and what is odin? Is it kinda like clockwork?

Odin is a program used for flashing firmware to Samsung smartphones.
You should probably read the Wiki at the top of the dev section. It has all the terms and instructions you should be familiar with before messing with any of this stuff.

No problem.
ok so the directions for the odin stock are:
Odin Stock Flashing
Odin : http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/noobnl/Odin3+v1.61andepic.pit.zip
1. Open odin
2. Put your phone in download mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold 1 on the keyboard while powering up)
3. connect phone (you should see odin put a Com4 or something like that in the first box. The actual number is NOT important what is important is something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it)
4. Select the victory_8G_100528.pit on the right in the pit section
5. In the PDA Section you place either the full Stock tar (SPH-D700-xxx-8Gb-REL.tar around 255mb) for a full wipe and full return to stock
6. Hit start. It will do its thing. Doesn't take long you can see the progress bar. If it sits on File Analysis for longer than 30 seconds its not going to happen. See the troubleshoot section below.
Device should reboot and should be done.
You will have to re root / install busy box.
now were do i get the item highlited in green?
Do the steps on the link in my signature. It's what I did and my GPS works great. Good luck.

I just wanna back this up, I had no luck with getting GPS on DJ29, DK05 or DK17... went through the steps and 2 days later still gets GPS lock
GPS in DK17 works perfectly for me. I think the cache bug is gone now.
EDIT: Just opened GPS Status and I'm getting 9 out of 10 satellites while INDOORS.
Ok thanks ill give it a go. I just factory reset and going to re root and flash.

I tried uploading Froyo to my mytouch 3g. I rooted the phone using the one click method and backed up and flashed the new rom. Upon reboot, the rom wouldn't start up so I recovered and restored all previous settings. I found a new rom and went into recovery but i see the dreaded white triangle, but if I turn it on normal it starts up into the original rom fine and is still rooted. How do I get my recovery back? I am also running ROM manager.
Just reflash the recovery from ROM Manager.

Seems to me like his phone keeps reinstalling the stock recovery upon reboot or rom manager isn't flashing properly, and probably needs to do it manually with "flash_image". . .
( I posted a way to fix the flashing recovery issue before: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428838 )
First of all, u didnt described ur problem clearly. then, i think your recovery mode is ok, the thing is you couldn't go through that. did you tried to go to the recovery by holding home+power down key together? then the picture of a phone and a triangle with (!) mark comes up, release the keys and then press them together, hope you will solve ur problem through that.and for making ur phone faster, try bananabread 3.1 , right now i am using that. good luck
0.00 internal storage and the external reads 0. I have flashed every Odin file I could find, tried the heimdall one click. Nothing is working. Any ideas? I promised the phone to my father in law and he is in town for the weekend.

Hmm how about making your phone soft brick, then use odin.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I don't really know, but here are some ideas.
Did you disable voodoo lagfix?
Try "eugenes froyo that doesn't brick" for the 60th time.
On ODIN put a check mark next to Re-Partition, but you said that had no effect.
Hmmmmmm, I bet eugene knows the answer. I feel like there is a thread somewhere that discusses this issue.
If you figure it out, let us know!

I was on cm7. No voodoo. I didn't have a SD in the phone and plugged it in for mass storage. Upon realizing that, I popped one in with the phone still connected. That's when I noticed the problem. I haven't been using my phone. I Odin'd from cm7 weeks ago and didn't touch the phone until I plugged it in for mass storage.

Take a look at this, not sure if it's the same thing as that on cyanogenmod link above:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230059
I hope this will help
I had the same issue when I was coming back to a froyo rom from CM 7.1, I did everything you did flashed froyo that didn't brick and nothing so this is what I did I used Odin JI6 file from this thread ODIN JI6 and the zip comes with ODIN 1.3, 512 PIT,T959UVJI6.TAR. I used that version of odin 1.3 to flash JI6 tar and pit files and checked re partition, when it rebooted it was stuck at the factory recovery so I pulled the battery, held vol up vol down and plugged in the usb cord to get back into download mode. Now I opened ODIN 1.7(DL LINK) and flashed froyo that doesn't brick also check re partition when it re boots it will go into a boot loop you know this, so THEN yes one more odin I kept the same version of odin open 1.7 and I flashed Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo.zip also with re partition checked. After all this I was still having issues with market then I cleared market catch installed trigger rom and now I can install apps again I would like to tell you the three odins was unnecessary but it wasn't until odin with JI6 that now my phone work right as for CM roms I never have one issue flashing then but if I want to revert back to a 2.2 rom it's a all day event hope this helps
EDIT LOL try the two peoples above me^^^ method first they seem to be on the right track ^^^
Also noticed that when I flash JFD, I get no errors(datadata, sd card, mmcblk0) in recovery after it boots from odin. The catch is, it goes black after the boot animation. Only the soft keys will light up. Really super stumped. Adb wont see my phone, so its making it really hard to manually repartition the internal storage. I have never been a adb wiz.

Negative Ghostrider I thought I did. But no dice.
Well damn. Have you tried different versions of Odin? What about a Voodoo kernel and conversion, any difference? There is something I remember reading a while back about an issue like this, I don't remember exactly what it said, but I'll try to find it for you.
Sent from my ZenDroid, meditating on the XDA App
I can't find the thread I was thinking of, sorry. I was thinking that your issue here sounds very similar to when people had done the partitioning via rom manager/cwm. Perhaps fixes for that will lead you in the right direction.

Sure does. Im going to jump on the new T-Mobile pre-paid plan. $70 a month for unlimited everything with 5gb of 4g speed before they throttle you. Use my old ass G1 until I either get a sgs2 or a prime.
I was reading a thread about the storage issue(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957615), and Im 300% sure that the phone is ****ed. I think I roasted the internal storage completely. A true brick. Do I get a cookie for bricking the un-brickable?
