Just curious if it lived up to all the hype, or if the price poured water on the fire.
I waited in a line of 3 people... they had 10 xooms.
But oh man. Honeycomb is God. Google Music is sexy aswell
There was no line, but one other person showed up to get one while I was checking out shortly after they opened the doors.
So far, I really... really like it... more-so than I was expecting.
Everyone is impressed by Apple's lines for new Apple products, but those are most often picked up at Apple stores, of which there are a very limited number in most cities (often no more than one). I never expected much of a line for the Xoom, but the fact that it's available at so many locations really limits the ability to create those impressive snakes that make it on the news whenever the next iPhone launches. In other words, there's no go-to place to pick up the latest and greatest Android device.
But of course, Motorola so botched this launch, that I don't think the Xoom ever had a chance to really be huge.
Went to my local Verizon store. I was the only one in there buying a Xoom.

I suspect there is still no streaming your home music from home PC to device a la the tech Google acquired from SimplifyMedia? I am tired of using audiogalaxy. I need a streaming solution that differentiates between music and audiobooks.
In BB there was 4 of us picking ours up. In Verizon store no one had bought one yet.
My Best buy was practically empty. The salesman mentioned that someone else had already picked one up, but it was pretty damn quiet there.

I was the first person and only person in line at 10:00am
Andy (Notioninkhacks)
I was the first and only person buying at Costco at about 10:45am.
At the nearest corporate VZ store, I was told I was only the 2nd customer of the day purchasing a Xoom.
However, about an hour after I walked out of the store I got a call from a sales rep that had been reserving a unit for me; she said she was hanging on to the last one they had in the store.
Seeing as how I didn't see much demand, each store must have gotten very few for launch day. The store manager raved about the device though, he said that yesterday the Moto rep had come in to show them all the bells and whistles. The manager looked like a gadget geek, and he was oozing excitement about the tablet.
I called my Best Buy today and they still had the iPhone Verizon launch announcement, from last week.
I went in to demo it in the afternoon - a few people looked at it after me but I didn't see any major push for the device. It was in the laptop section and not very easy to find.
Only 2 at BB at 10am
There was only 2 of us picking up at 10 am. They only had 5 and were all sold day before. I think people are waiting to see what Ipad 2 has to offer.
My Best Buy had 3 sold within an hour of opening (including me).
My bestbuy had 10 of them when i got there..& i was the only 1 at that time picking up the Xoom..the sales guy told me another person had picked up 1 before me ..but he said that everybody had been coming in to see it.
I have three Verizon stores in *close* driving distance, one Apple store. There's not lines because Verizon has more stores. Not to mention Best Buys.
Apple's releases are initially mostly limited to Apple stores, so the get the lines, creates a look of more hype, etc. Apple's a genius at receiving customers to make more hype than there should be.

At the verizon store I was told I was the third one of the day, around noon. They aren't pushing it, there weren't even signs up for it, still iphone stuff everywhere.
I got my pre-order call to pickup my Xoom, I left work drove 40 miles to my best buy and when I got there only to find they sold mine. I was ready to rip this guys off, he called around and found one a few miles away now I have one. Love it but typing this is vary laggy
there weren't any lines at the verizon store near me but their shipment sold out within an hour of opening. i went back later on around 7pm to pick up a case and they told me they shipped more over from another store and they sold those out within 30 minutes.
I was the only one in the VZ store picking one up and now I have to return it for the %25 off one coming from Moto.

On release day, March 24th 2009, I was forced to work late. Turns out, it didn't matter since the phones were sold out 4 hours after the official release.
The next batch that came through lasted longer, but I was having a financial crisis and put off grabbing one, thinking foolishly that the surge was over.
There are 19 T-Mo stores within 100 miles of my house and I am now on a first-name-basis with most of their clerks
Austin is not only home to Dell, SXSWi and hundreds of video game companies, but it is also home to millions of techies slobering over this new gadget.
Two days ago, I was going through my twice-daily ritual of contacting the stores in the area when, on my third store, I heard that they now had 15 in stock.
15?!? I thought that was a joke! I jumped into my car and drove 10 minutes to the store, walking in just ahead of three others. There were 4 phones left.
While purchasing the phone, several others came rushing in, sweaty and begging, but to no avail, the phones were gone. 24 of them between 1pm and 3pm. Those were the only HD2s sold in Austin this week.
I now have my phone and am guarding it like a lost treasure. I don't know what they are going for on eBay right now, but it breaks my heart to think of parting with it after suffering for so long to get it...
I was pretty lucky I guess. I walked in 10 minutes after T-Mobile opened on release day here in Los Angeles, and walked out with the phone 15 minutes later.
Looks like they underestimated the demand, or they are expecting a lot of returns, lol.
I got it the day they were released. The T-Mobile store was giving conflicting prices than what the a T-Mobile call center rep told me and my father on the phone (we both wanted the phone). Store refused to match the call centers prices. Our rep called the store while we were there and not only did we get the phone but they gave us a buy 1 get 1 free. We still had to renew our contracts but I didn't mind, you can't argue with a free phone. The call center rep said they were sorry of the inconvenience and made note on how we have been with t mobile for many years. Two HD2's for only $199.

The T-Mo reps on the phone told me that normally the company will set aside a few thousand of the new phones for the employees to purchase, but due to the demand, they've barred employees from purchasing the phone.
This sucks for employees, since they can't actually use the phone on a daily basis and be able to field questions from their customers, but it rocks for everyone else.
Can you imagine how pissed I would have been if I had found everyone at the stores carrying this phone but I couldn't have one? LOL!
In Denver
I went to the T-Mobile outlet @ about 2PM on the launch day. I thought nobody would want this phone as it has the 'Marked for death' OS.
I causally asked the rep, how the sales was. he said mine was the last one left, the I went to another shop to get the screen protector as these were out of it.
In the other shop, those guys were so surprised that I was able to get one so late in the day.
With WM7 around the corner I'm surprised this phone is selling this hot.
PS: At the look of it I hate the WM7 with the same disgust I reserve for the iPhones. And I got this because its the last hurray of a beautiful OS. My heart broke when they excluded US from HD launch, so this is like a dream come true. 4.3' capacitive screen with snapdragon. I'm pinching myself. But for the shear 'unique' feel I'll still keep my N900.
Talk about going threw hell to get this phone, I live in Alaska and we dont have T-mobile here so I had to use wirefly to order the phone on a new two year t-mobile contract using my old home Address in CT, and then have the phone sent to my brother (they wouldnt send the phone to a different state then the billing addy) for him to send to me here lol oh and had to sell my Tilt 2 to afford it and have been stuck with my old V3 razor till it gets here on Sat lol The things we do for our Toys lol
I drove 45 minutes to get mine 2 days before launch
HD2
Walked into one Tmobile store at 12:30pm, they were sold out.
Drove 10 miles to the other local Tmobile shop and they had 6 left.
Slapped down 450 dollars, smiled and walked out the door, HD2 in hand, it was like it was Christmas morning.
No regrets, no complaints.
fhaines
I went into a tmo affiliate store the day before to check out the Cliq. I never even considered the HD2. I looked at the screen, then saw it was winmo and spent about 30 minutes talking myself into it after I swore no more winmo phones. After watching about 10 minutes of transformers I was sold.
Biggest plus of winmo is desktop access to my phone via Soti and or mymobiler.
Biggest negative, no ipsecvpn with challenge response -:-( <--I didn't research that part, and a work colleague said they got their Eris working, this is my dealbreaker. Sucks I have to sell, I like everything else about it.

Wait, you're selling your HD2?
Oh Snap!!!
I talked myself into getting the phone on launch day, called all stores within 100miles from me, nothing all sold out (pretty pissed), as I walk into walmart I see they sell it, had 1 in stock and I bought it. Still smile everytime I take it out of my pocket. I got it for 148.88 yes!!!!
I didn't go through anything because not getting the phone isn't the end of the world.
So I ordered mine on the 25th and got put on a waiting list..No big deal...The phone was mailed and delivered to me 6 days later.
I had it 4 days before its public release.
All I did was; headed into my store when I received a call that the FedEx truck had arrived, unpackaged the shipment, grabbed my reserved unit... and left the store... went home and then slept for the rest of my day off.

I'm trying to trade for a N1 if possible, in marketplace and at work. At the same time I am trying all the different vpn's for winmo (trials) in what seems to be a vain attempt to get vpn working.
Ordered it online on Monday and received it on Thursday afternoon. Paid WAYYY less than T-Mobile. Was willing to pay the $149.00 through a AAA discount but when I called they said it was 199.00. Called a third party supplier and got it for 1/2 the 149 as a new 2 year activation. Was a little reluctant and was even thinking of cancelling with the third party because there seem to be a few bad reviews but I have 14 days return 30 day exchange.
Still can get the 14% off AAA discount off my bill and got the insurance which is now activated. Was a little hesitant but it was manufactured sealed and so far is physically flawless. Have the 3g connect problems everyone else seems to have. Had a SMT5600, 2125, TYTN, TYTN II Kaiser and a FUZE for a week (sold it for more than I paid for it once I saw the HD2). So far its a MAJOR improvement in build quality and usability. The only thing I wish it had was conversation record with RESCO or VITO.
bought it at 2am in the moring !!!
T-Mo online store was out of stock. Then a friend of mine called me up at 2:30 am at night on March 30th to say they are available. Bought the phone while half asleep, woke up next morning to see it was out of stock again

You shouldn't have any problems trading down like that. (Yes, I said trading down. I've played with the Nexus One and it is awesome, but this phone is lightspeeds beyond it IMHO)
So the IPSec/L2TP and PPTP settings won't work for you because you need a "challenge response"? I can't believe that no one has created a "fix" for this somewhere on these forums...
just sat down, ordered online through wirefly with 100 bing cashback.
u too?
WTF?!
This is google's solution to lack of demand? Ok, let's hit a prime retail outlet and only give them 30 phones per store. Suuuuure. That's gonna work.
All u do is tick me off.
I can't even get an online order to process because it keeps erroring out through tmobile. Seriously?! WFF.
Lol you think 30 phones is bad? Because the majority of stores near me don't activate tmo they only had 4 and even showing up early I was the first in line to not get one. Caller me back because the guy in front of me didn't know that there's no 3g on att. Then the phone had a big screen defect. Luckily after BB computer wouldn't allow a return and having to drive 25 miles to a store that had one, the employee there figures out how to bypass it and get me a new one. So far perfect! Hang in there... went through 8 vibrants, four mt4gs and on my second nexus. You should just order it online, and save the hassle of having to deal with the store. Don't know why no one informed beat buy employees how to handle this phone.
Sorry didn't see you couldn't order

The first Nexus fell on its face so this may have been a safety measure. Best Buy was a poor choice in my eyes since they are not a full tmobile supporter. I don't get why they got the exclusive over the carrier themselves.
ive waited a total of 10 hours or more on the phone (on hold) with bestbuy.
what's wrong with this picture?
I don't understand actually, I mean in Boston the store had only 4 devices. I one of the 4 who got one . Why don't Google throw more phones? overstock is better than no stock at all. Was it a rush to catch the holidays? It doesn't make sense either, because if you want to sell for the holidays you want to sell larger number than this.
Least we could grt rewardzone points!
I only waited in line for about 30 minutes at the Best Buy Mobile at the nearest mall to me and one other guy showed up right at open, and they had about 70 to sell... so iono why other stores are being so limited... odd.
My experience was way different. In a city of 100k+ I stopped in today and they had only sold one besides mine yesterday morning. Guy said they had 25000 ready to order. Best buy headquarters is only a few blocks away so maybe that contributes

any posibility to get an unlocked device next week?
was there a line?
were they sold out?
please do tell your exwpeience dropping by your local at&t
I exchanged mine in store today. No line, no grand displays. Just 2 people there to get the Atrix. Only one phone on display and one dock without a phone to power it. This was in Northern CA. I was at the same store for iPhone PreOrders and it was a madhouse. I thought there would be a little more demand for the phone.
I bought 4 of them today at AT&T. They were the only ones that I could get 4 from. Radio Shack only had 1, Best Buy only had 1, and they said that they would only sell one per family... Weird. It's not like anyone was knocking down their doors for it.
I did because Im nbot up for an upgrade till March and I had to be a pig and get it today at ATT and not radio shack since they wont honor ATT's 30 day policy. I asked about there stock and they said they had plenty.
I picked one up today. Went in and swaped my 3 day old inspire. Prolly best desicion I've made un a few days.

Dmappdev did the same thing. Had the inspire for 3 days. Inspire was awesome but I am loving the size and weight of tHe atrix. The rest is just icing on the cake
My local store said they had several but couldn't sell them because AT&T didn't send them any 4G SIM cards. The rep said I was the 6th or 7th person they turned away.

4g sim? what is that nonsense?
Has there even been any advertising for this device? Apple drops 10s of millions months before a product drops, it's not shocking that a device with no major add campaign isn't flying off the shelves.
Maybe att doesnt want people to grab it just yet, until they actually turn on their 4g backhaul, cause ill say this right now. ATT does not have true hspa+, not like t-mobile.

I've seen a couple of commercials here and there.
I was the only idiot waiting for the store to open at 9am. The only other guy that even walked in was some old dude that lost his iPhone.
Had to call 3 different AT&T stores. The 3rd one had 2 more in stock, and asked if they would hold it for me.
got mine at the local att store, not a single person there. 10am
Walked into my local store at 7:30 tonight. No line. Walked out with my Atrix in about 30 minutes.

As for the popularity.... just think about it for a second. If it doesn't have a shiny apple on the back of it, then the vast majority of the "smartphone" population doesn't care about it.

I did the same thing, stopped by on my way to class this morning.
I dropped by yesterday to make sure that they'd have enough in stock, and the guy (at that time) told me they had plenty. When I was talking to the guy that was writing me up, he told me they only had two in stock haha. Lucky me.
My att said they sold a few today. They had both docks out for display and people were checking them out. Coming from an iphone4 I couldn't be happier to be honest.

I picked mine up today in Rolla MO ( small town south east of St. Louis) I was the first on the list, some people after me came into buy as well. I got to keep my unlimited data plan, and the whole process took about 15 min. Unfortunately the store i went to didn't get any docks in, but i got a card for 15% off any accessories i pick up later.
Coming from a Iphone 3g I am very very happy with the atrix, I am having a few android growing pains ( like contacts not filtered by last name) But so far i really like this phone.
The best part is that my hick ass town which only got 3g last year, already has the back haul in place for 4g (att's sorry rendition of it) so im getting 4megs down and .5 up.. thats a hell of a lot better than the speeds i was getting on my crippled Iphone.
I called the two corporate stores near me. Only one got a shipment of 5 phones in yesterday, the other wasn't getting theirs until this afternoon.
I walked into the store that got them last night right after they opened and 20 miutes later me and my new phone hit the road.
They didn't even have any on display.
Arlington Texas
Bought mine across the street from the Cowboy's Stadium (not a fan just a location reference) and they only received three. I bought the last one. I have another that I pre-ordered for my Dad. The store I went to had the display out and they worked on it for a few days getting it all put together. It only had one working Atrix that was securely tethered with one of those flexy coil reels so that you can place the phone in any of the three docks to check it out. I was there just after 10:00 when the store opened.
i walked it at 5:00 pm they had about 30 galaxy tabs of all flavors. I was the only one who ad bought one in two days. They were sold out of all ipads except 64gb Verizon models.
Who cares, to each their own. I drove all the way to Buffalo just to pick one up from Toronto. (First to get it in the Best Buy) haha.
Ipad will always sell more than the galaxy tab 10.1
Apple has perfect marketing.
So, you checked for 2 days or a BB sales man told you so?
When I read the topics here some BB's sales men don't even know they are selling Tabs
If anything the bee's are just really started making honeycomb.
A first proper start of Honeycomb tablet sales have started with the Asus Transformer. It's really picking up here in the Netherlands, most popular tablet on a big dutch site, where the Tab 10.1 has not been lauched.
I had to wander around a bit before finding the display (was set off on the other side of the Apple section, away from the other tablets/computers). Seems they were pretty popular though. They were out of both 32gb models and out of the white 16gb. Guy said I snagged the last Metallic 16gb (But of course whether he was just saying that is questionable). Down in Destin, FL so at least here in the white sands they are pretty popular.
there was a cage full of tabs and some sitting on the shelf. They had 30 tabs delivered a day late I counted 30. There were two guys arguing about purchasing a returned ipad2.
We have five Best Buys here in Jacksonville - all of them have the 10.1 in stock.. 32 and 16gb both colors.
iPad is definately more popular in my city.
Frankly like Sighx says, who cares. I'd rather question: send some to Europe asap

Cool story, bro.
This isn't a whine - I'm patiently waiting to get one when they are in stock - but I'm just a bit amazed at how the situation is unfolding with BB.
No store anywhere in Silicon Valley (or in northern California for that matter) has ever received any 32GB versions (they all received a small batch of only one of the 2 16GB colors - the color varies by store), and most of them gave all of their initial stock of those 16GB versions to people who pre-ordered them (but there are a scant few still in stores). And now they are fielding questions right and left about not having any stock. I imagine they'll put up a recorded message before the phone menu any day now just like they do for the iPad availability. This isn't a case of a huge sellout on day one, they are all complaining that they only originally received a handful and they were only of one of the 2 16GB versions. And the SF store has some egg on its face (almost literally) with the huge window on the front of the store sporting an enormous banner that implies that "this is the place to get your Samsung Galaxy Tab!" (or maybe not)... ;-)
And you could walk into any Microcenter or Frys in the area and get the flavor you wanted for at least 2 days (and some within 40 miles still have stock in most of the models even today) and they didn't need a big banner to advertise their stock (or lack thereof). Wasn't BB the launch partner with the special exclusive one week deal for NY - why is that the only store I can't get the right model in?
Between the huge number of (unfilled) preorders here and the number of phone calls they are getting currently and the fact that this is one of the seats of the computer industry in the country, you'd have thought they'd send at least one single 32GB version to some store here somewhere? But, no.
Wow, talk about missing the boat. Who at BB corporate managed to mess up the distribution this badly? At least I believe that the majority of tablet users are clear enough on what they want that they'll wait for it and the bad distribution choices won't really cost them a huge opportunity in the end, but if they didn't have enough to go around and they sent them mainly to places that don't know how to market them rather than one of the few places you know they'd walk off the shelves without any help from the sales staff (or the now tragically ironic huge banners) - that wasn't a complicated decision, no?
I'm waiting it out. I have a Xoom in the meantime whose days are numbered, but I'm waiting to take advantage of some rewardzone certificates at BB when someone eventually wakes up and sends some 32GB versions to the NoCal stores. Giggling a little, but with a frown.
Sales will be lukewarm at best. You need price point and ad money to sell things. Verizon saved android from a slow death in the phone market with its Droid campaign. Unless someone pumps serious money into tablet ads they'll continue to flounder. Outside of BB posters Noone has a clue what a galaxy tab is nor will they unless Samsung pushes hard.
Superior products don't equal better sales we all know that.
I had one on pre-order with BB but it was back ordered. I did a search and my local store had the 32g in stock. I picked it up and everything is working great. All I would like to see is more streaming capability

Well, in my Best Buy they are mostly morons, with a few cretins and idiots thrown in for good measure! I went in to buy a 10.1 Tab (already own the 7) and asked if they had any - one BB salesdrone said maybe but none on display. I said "do you know this is Father's Day and your website says their in stock- the drone just shrugged - I asked another if they expected someone to lay down $600 site unseen - same reaction.
Is it any wonder BB sales were down 16% last quarter?

It all depends where you located I guess.
Here in NYC it's been selling like cupcakes according to the sales guys and personal observation. When I went to pick mine up a couple asked me if it was an ipad2, after seeing it wasn't they were next in line to get it.
After I discovered a flaw with the screen and went to exchange it in a Brooklyn's best buy there were three other interested costumers.

Went to a couple of BB in NY.
One of them (Houston in the Village/ Soho) I asked about the tab and they said ' we have it but we didn't put it out'. I asked why, the guy had no clue.
They have zero accessories.
Went to the one on 6th ave and 23rd st (very big store). First BB employee said 'Yes we have it don't move I will be right back'. She never came back.
Second one said "accessories are there" pointing to the Xoom. I told her that's the Xoom, she said well that's all its left.
To make a long story short, I found the Tab and the accessories myself.
This is just to tell you that if BB employees tell you something it's usually 99% INACCURATE. Ask at least 5 different employees, or even better, do your own research in the store and you will find what you are looking for.
Fact is the average Joe wanting a tablet will just go ipad. It is easy well made tons of apps. Samsung is offering a nice alternative but without any real differentiation. No built-in expansion. No keyboard dock liked the Asus. Price point is no better than the ipad. Honeycomb is not mature enough yet to steal potential ipad buyers so one needs some extra hardware goodies line USB port or dock or HDMI and importantly better price point.
Sell Samsung at 449 and then people start to consider it. Make it 399-429$ and many will pass on the ipad.

You are very right. Salesmen told me it was instock. Then not, sold me hard on getting a pre-order. Promised to match price to amazon, 500 otd. Another girl rings up preorder, rings at full price. Leave store with promise it will be corrected upon pickup. Pulling up at the house, receive e-mail saying Tab ready to pick up.
Fail. Then had to wait on hold for 30 minutes to verify this was correct before I head back over.
I just spent 20min waiting outside a T-Mobile store before it opened, the doors finally opened, I tell the rep I would like to buy a Note 4 and to my shock she said "we didn't get any". I called every other store in a 30mi radius and NOBODY has them. So make sure you call before you waste your time driving to the store.
This is all very ironic since I decided not to preorder so I could be one of the first people to get one on launch day I am pretty ticked so I filed a formal complaint, and encourage others to do the same (being polite of course). Stores are suppose to get shipments days in advance of a major product launch.

Its true. I live in NW Houston and working in SE Houston/Pasadena area so I called a lot of stores near home and work and about half of them said that Note 4 is sold out (calling within 9am-930am) and the rest said they are still waiting for the shipment and some said they only do store orders and directly shipping it to my home address. One store told me to hurry up in the afternoon because they are only getting 4 units. WTF?
Wow, only 4? I wonder if Samsung is to blame or if it's T-Mobile. Or both. I haven't heard of any other carriers having supply issues yet.
Thank you for lesson learned. I have it since this past Monday already.
Are you trying to save $6 on the shipping?

I mentioned I didn't preorder since I wanted to have it as soon as possible, I didn't feel like waiting for the UPS truck to show up. I called the minute preorders were up, they said I would get it on the 17th probably in the afternoon.

Sorry to hear you haven't had any luck locating a store with Note 4's in stock.
I'm south of Houston & planned to walk into a store to pick one up but decided to pre-order instead...certainly worked out for the better.
I called 6 different Corp stores and they all said shipment got botched and hopefully ups is delivering them today. Non Corp stores have them. Any reason not to go to a non Corp. At AT&T I got screwed by going non Corp

I've never gone to a non corporate store to get a phone. I know there are some things 3rd party stores can't do. It's kind of funny I actually work in mobile sales for a major company but we don't sell T-Mobile so I have to go get one at a store like everyone else. Our store actually only had 3 to sell as of last night when I got off(the rest of the shipment we got was all in store pickups for preorders) and I mentioned to management how BS that was.

Now that we know, ordering at the store is not it. Now you can tell UPS to hold your package while its on its way and you just pick it up at the service center. Everyone that live near KY gets free upgrade to next day air.
Got mine this morning at 10am. Showed up to the store at 9 and they told me they didn't have any and when I called at 10 they told me they had gotten 10 in and to hurry
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
As of 12:00 a vast majority of the stores in the bay area don't have any but one had a few whites and another had a few white and one black.

I was the same. I was really mad. but I got mine from a different store. The funny thing is all the guys at tmobile had a new shirt has the next big thing is here and they have nothing in stock
I played with the Note 4 for a bit but going to probably wait and see how I like the Nexus 6. The store only had a few left of the 8 they got.
I called 10 stores this morning in my area for 2 white (for a friend - got mine Wed). 7 had sold out already, 2 will not get their shipments in until after 3pm and 1 had 2 left. Unfortunately, they won't hold them so he's gonna try his luck at those 2 stores since the last store is an hour and half drive and likely won't be stocked when he gets there.
From what the stores told me, most of them got 2 white and 2 black and received their shipment later than expected but still sold out quickly. I'm surprised - they had so many s5 on launch day but I guess the Note 4 is a different breed!
same here some stores hadnt gotten the shipment yet. but i found one that did so i got mine.

Guess samsung just wants to "sell out"
So much for Samsung spending millions on marketing and promoting their phones only to mess up their store launch day
Well I dont even know if this is Samsung's or Tmo's fault.
Oh, there one store 60 miles away from me expecting the delivery in 30 mins. Crossing my fingers that I'll be able to get one 2 hrs from now. Cant leave work yet
all the other stores said to call or go back at 11 am to 2 pm to see if they already had them.
