Camera problems anyone care to try this? - Epic 4G General

Ok I am too much of a sissy to try this but someone may be brave enough. Whoever has a full titanium backup it has the old camera in it. Anyone brave enough to try and restore it and see if it works?

you could re-flash the rom, I've never tried the camera hack so I'm not sure exactly what it entails or how to reverse it besides just starting over.
I'm new to flashing rom and stuff but does it erase all apps

Yes it would unless you back them up somehow.
Are you running a custom rom right now?
No stock rooted why?

I found this:
"Be careful in Service Mode that you know what it is your changing. If you hork up your phone you can reset it by doing a Factory data reset in Settings / Privacy / Factory data reset."
from here
but be careful, you'll need to reinstall your apps if you do that, but if you flashed the rom again you'd have to do that anyways.
Thanks ill probably try a new rom any recommendations preferably one with good battery

I've had great battery with Macnut R13.
I've actualy never had below 24 hours unplugged.
but fair warning: some people say the opposite so I may have just got lucky.
It seems to be about 50/50 have good battery life or dont lol
Also I hear great things about Team Whiskeys roms.
as well as Auxura (Although the guy developing the rom recently stopped development on it)
if you want to stay with 2.1 you might try team whiskey
or if you like 2.2 then any of the above would be great roms
everyone has their own opinion though so you might try a few before you find one you like alot.
Okay one more question... let's say I flash a rom right now... then flash another tomorrow... will the one I did the day before be completely erased when I flash a new one I've heard of people experiencing bugs and this happened ..

Generaly yes you should not have a problem.
but if you do run into trouble you can use odin to start clean, in fact alot of people prefer to use odin to get back to stock before flashing any rom.
but its up to you, I generaly only use odin if things start acting weird (which is next to never)
Wait... isn't Odin how you flash new roms?
Also can u link me to a good tutorial on flashing roms I'm trying to search it from my phone using xda app but its taking forever

At least this thread will serve as a solution to the next person has this issue. Loved the title of this thread, had to respond.
So how did you get the stock camera back? Mine keeps restarting my phone I want to restore it but there is no restore.txt

Go to your files app.. then sgstools folder there should be a app called camera.apk
Get root explorer go to system > apps and delete camera.apk and the one under it is like camera.odex delete that too.
Now use root explorer to go to sgstools and move camera.API to system apps then go clear all data foe camera app reboot. Done.

I have no knowledge of flashing sbf's, so I don't want to brick my phone with no experience on fixing it. I'd appreciate it though if someone else would want to try it. I want to see if this actually deblurs it >_>

I would think it would have to be changed in other areas of the root partition. Not sure exactly which areas though. I'll do some experimenting and post back.
aw that sux, im still sorta wanting a deblur rom to see what happends...
Any news?

The Droid Bionic has the same setting in settings.db.
anyone with a bravo willing to give it a whirl?
Just flash cm7 lol

The Atrix has it and I tried it. It just disconnected me from MotoBlur. Contacts was still usable, Gallery won't connect to social networks, and Music won't work at all. For some reason, I wiped and tried it again and it didn't work. Not really useful though since you can achieve the same thing by freezing services in Titanium Backup.

Camera viewfinder problem?

So I decided to give the gps program Navigon a spin, and although it was a lengthy download to get the maps, I found it quite useful. However, one of the options was to use the camera as a "viewfinder" and it was supposed to do like an augmented reality navigation. Not only did this not work, but it made my camera viewfinder screen stretched out, kind of like when you try to stretch a 4:3 movie in a 16:9 resolution. I have uninstalled the program and rebooted phone multiple times, but to no avail. I am currently running wolf's cm6 v007 with no xperia ui and the FPS limit removed...
If anyone has any suggestions or if I can provide any more info that could lead to a solution, please let me know...

You may end up having to back up all your data and reflash the rom.
blargh...i was hoping that wasn't the answer...i just got it the way i like it...<sigh>
Pm the person who made the Rom before flashing and ask then. Can't hurt.

Camera not working anymore?

So yesterday I accidentally dropped my phone in milk. I picked got my phone out of it almost immediately, and dried it off. I didn't really think much of it, because everything was still working properly. Today, I tried to use my camera, but when I hit the camera button, the camera app FC'd. I reopened it and I got an error saying "Can't connect to camera". I thought maybe something happened in the ROM, so I restored a backup from about 2 weeks ago, and I got the same message.
Currently, I've got the phone in rice, just in case. Is it possible that the milk is what is causing this? If so, is there any chance that I can fix the camera without sending it in? (I don't have insurance)
The only thing that's keeping me from thinking that the milk is what's causing this, is the fact that everything else is working normally on the phone. I've called people, texted, games, everything is working fine, but the camera.
I'm running Zips most recent build, and my backup was IceColdSandwich. In a few hours when I take my phone out, I'll try a GB rom, but for now, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Yea, MOST of the time, but NOT always, you can go into the phones settings, then into Applications, select the 'All' tab, and find the Camera on the list. Clear the cache, also clear data...that usually works. If not, maybe fix permissions? I always try those methods. But I don't care for ICS so I don't know if its the same as 3.5.....but try that.

Have you tried flashing just a camera? You can go into the Apps and theme section and there is a thread with a few camera packs that you flash in recovery?

Haha so am I. Thanks for the help though, I appreciate it.
Ya it definitely sounds like you nuked a critical component of the camera. Definitely lucky it didn't fry any of the other parts. If you've tried doing a factory reset and completely wiping your disks, don't think there's anything else you can do other than sending it in or attempting to fix it yourself which would require quite a bit of skill and probably some soldering expertise.
I'm using the same rom as you and the same thing happened to me at one point. I managed to fix it though by clearing camera cache, disabling and re-enabling it, and then clearing the dalvik cache and fixing permissions just for kicks. One or all of those things fixed it for me. Try that maybe?

Alright. I'll try it haha. I've been given new hope because the flashlight is working now, so I'm hoping the camera might start working again.
One question though, what do you mean by disabling it and re-enabling it?
When you go to clear the app cache you'll see a button next to the force stop option that says disable. From my understanding its basically like turning off the drivers for the camera. When you re-enable it (same button btw) you reactivate the drivers and it will communicate with the camera again hopefully.
If I'm wrong about any of that someone can correct me. But it still worked to fix my problem anyways

If you do plan on doing that make sure to search the general threads. I saw a really good video there once with someone walking through how to properly disassemble this phone.

Alright, I'll try to find that. The website that I'm ordering the camera from apparently sends step by step instructions.
I guess that's one thing I enjoy about iPhones. They come apart and can be repaired very easily haha
Hope?
Okay, so I randomly tried opening the camera again today, and to my surprise, the app didn't force close or give me the message saying it couldn't connect. Nothing was appearing though, so I didn't think much of it. Then I remembered in Zips build you had to turn force preview on, so I did. Nothing happened, but I tried to take a picture, and the screen turned green with a weird little brownish area in the middle.
I'll upload a picture of it later if anyone wants and thinks maybe they can help me figure it out a little more.
The fact that it's working all of the sudden makes me think it might just randomly go back to normal. However, it might not.
But the fact that the camera is actually turning on now, that means that if anythings broken, its the camera itself, right? Not the hardware around it?
Hmm, upload a picture. My camera started taking those glitchy looking photos before it died on me. If you hadn't mentioned the green and brown detail I would have forgotten.
I'm not saying I can give any more suggestions than I already did but if you're getting the same problem I had then maybe you can categorize this back in the realm of software issues. Better than a hardware failure at least...

Here it is.
But I tried to change the megapixels of the camera, and it "died" again. So I have no idea what to think anymore lol

So, the MyTouch 4G has shown several camera issues; from a black screen to FCing when opening the app. It seemed to be like an update issue to the newest GB but even stock phones that hadn't been updated were also having issues. If anyone has anymore info on this subject please reply here or PM me. I am very interested in this issue as I have a coworker witht the same problem. It has also been shown to reoccur after people think they have "fixed" it with a factory reset or such.
