I happened to like sammy TW but I was wondering if I install LauncherPro, would it affect the performance in general? I know that they do not run at the same time but would it have any negative effect to have multiple launchers at a time?
extra launchers run in the background, but there shouldn't be any negative effects

you can force close tw if u think it's running. Just go to manage applications and select it from the list.
From my understanding though, when you install launcher pro and assign the home button to always use it, tw doesn't run in the background or even start with the phone.

Not only does twlauncher always run, it runs as a foreground app 100% of the time.

Yep, I'm trying systempanel lite from the market as a way to monitor processes & it always shows TW running & you can't keep it off unlike senseUI.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
there is a way to do it, you have to put the Launcher of ur choosing into the system/app folder and if u change the tw30launcher.apk file name to tw30launcher.old(this way u dont have to delete it and u can just change it back to .apk when u want to start using it again) it will not let tw run in the background cuz it wont be able to read the file. When u first change the file name tw will fc like crazy all u have to do is restart ur phone and it will just boot into the other launcher by default. I'm doing this with LauncherPro and LP seems to run faster being in the system folder than in the data folder anyway =D. this all can be done with Rootexplorer
I suggest you try that before reccomending it.
already done it, it was done already some time back I can't remember if the thread is in dev.or themes but it would be one of the earlier post. I said it causes fcs at first until restart so I did give warning on that but it works with no problems and I'm not the first to do this
edit: it is in development and the thread is called "Replace stock launcher"
Sent from my LV-Voodoo Fascinate using XDA App
This was my thread actually, and your statement is correct. You will fc until reboot, then all will be well. The running launcher integrates, and moving it results in bedlam for a second.
Just make sure you have the replacement launcher in the system/app directory before you move touchwiz out.
This is an old trick, just a new phone.

What happens when you move LauncherPro to system/app and then try to update it from the market when a new version comes out?

The work around is to pull down the update and pop it into the system/app directory.

Howdy,
I am new to rooting but did some research before pulling the trigger.
I followed the instructions located at droid life. I would post a URL but since I am new I cant.
But I have been stuck at the Z4 MOD screen with the rotating circle for about 20 mins now. Help please....
Sometimes a reboot and try again does the trick.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Just let it go until it stops spinning (took me about 20-25 minutes) pull the battery, reboot, try again. It will be almost instant the second time
If you still don't have any luck, make sure to go into settings-->Applications--> development--> USB debugging. Make sure that usb debugging box is checked.
If that still doesn't help, try putting the phone into AIrplane mode and then try running z4root.

Ok thanks for the help. I waited about 40 mins and then closed the program and rebooted the phone. It took only 30 seconds and it was done..
So now that I have that done I loaded liberty 1.5
I also downloaded adw launcher as I heard it was pretty good.
My problem now is I cannot get it to set up my two other email accounts (hotmail and another ) like I had before. I also cannot get it to link some of my existing contacts to my facebook contacts (basically double contacts)
What am I doing wrong?

Ok so I deleted adw launcher and went back to the liberty controls. Doing that allowed me to join contacts into one. So one problem solved.
But I still cannot get my emails to work. I enter in all the info and I get this message : "unable to open connection to server"
Also I cannot find the original messaging widget that I had on the phone before. It basically was a large widget that had a preview of my text messages.
My email widget is missing as well...
Thanks for your help
When you installed liberty, you removed all of the stock apps aka blur apps. Liberty uses all aosp apps which do not haves the blur elements. This may explain why you can't do the email and it is why you don't have the messaging widget. If you still want the messaging widget I recommend you try gosms or hancent
Handcent is the way to go for sure. And honestly you should get a gmail account. It just makes sense if you use a Droid. Plus go into liberty tool box - addons and you can put back some of the blur stuff. I recommended the blur camera because the stock liberty camcorder doesn't support hd. Good luck!

Next question is my facebook widget is not keeping updated like it should. On the main widget screen you can scroll through new posts from all of your friends but for some reason it is not updating them. If I click on the widget it loads my facebook and everything is recent.
Any ideas?
Hmm not sure I don't use the Facebook widget. I use the twidroyd widget instead. I had the same problem but it got fixed when the app had a new update. Are other people having that problem? Might be the app. Try seesmic I hear they added Facebook support. He's the guy that made ping.FM so you know it's decent. Maybe check your app update settings and make sure its getting content.

After I turn the phone on in the morning it goes to that "dos like" screen where you can backup and restore, update, etc etc. It says clockwork mod recovery on the bottom. I usually click the first option and the phone resets and loads fine.
What is going on?
Also I would like a clock widget similar to the stock digital one. I like how the stock one would change weather forecasts when I changed citys.

The dos-like screen is a hikacked recovery for the X. It may seem like a hassle to always have to tell the phone to boot normally, but the one time that it bricks or has issues, then this recovery console will.be q blessing.

You could make a nandroid back up once a month or however often you make major changes to your system.

Hi I have dhd but when installing apps then transfering them to the memory card, when having custom folders on the home screen restaring the device causes the icons to show as the standard default android icons. Is there anyway of making keep the original app ones?

I have found a solution that although it works for me is perhaps not ideal.
If you change the 'skin' to something other than the one you are using, this seems to sort the problem. You can then change back to your original.
The only other thing I had to do was to then change the wallpaper back to what I wanted, but this does not make any difference to the solution.
Let me know if this works for you.

This issue is not that simple. Even if the phone is on for days, the icons don't change. Even selecting them to open the app makes no difference.
The only way I can resolve this issue is to do what I said in my previous post. I have also found that if HTC Sense has to force close and restart, then the correct app icons appear.

Hey everybody
just got to play with my new sgs2 all day, and noticed whenever i sort my application in folders, and reboot the phone.. my application will go randomly so its not sorted anymore.. either its a bug or ?
but the folders that i put out on the homescreen is still as it was before, but going in the application menu, everything is just random after a reboot. really change..
so how do u guys sort your stuff, i do it by games, appz, tools & widgets, navigation and Samsung(bloatware
application menu just look like a mess
I haven't experienced such problem. My apps stay exactly as I organise them.
Menus sorted in order stay as they are after a reboot .
But installing new apps may move some around .

Try "touchwiz appsorter" from market.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
One of the weaker points of touchwiz, the seemingly random placement of apps in the appdraer, along with the horizontal scrolling of the app drawer (who thought of that, seriously?), there is an app in the market called touchwiz app sorter which sorts the apps but for a real nice launcher try go launcher, it sorts apps, in the tray, by running apps, alphabetically etc etc
I quite like dxtoplite it also organizes alphabetically or by genre or running etc and u get 5 home screens in a diamond formation really nice interface too
mine does sometimes the same that OP's gs2 does. it flips all the apps in the folder vice versa, eg superuser was first in the folder and now its in last place there.
happens randomly after reboot and im running rooted KF1

glade to hear im not the only one experiencing this!
i give op on sorting in the app drawer, so im just gonna use home screen from now on..
something weird i also notice is, if u have app drawer to show as list, and drag one of the items out to homescreen, it sometimes drag a totally different app lol

I do not own a Kindle Fire yet I understand that Kindle Fire technically runs 2.3. Since sideloading is good to go, has anybody tried running an alternate home screen launcher? I know it won't look at good as a tablet running honeycomb, but at least it will have more tablet look. My wife is on the fence about getting either an Acer A100 or this Kindle Fire. Oh and she is not computer literate and thinks that root is the part of the tree that resides under the ground. Thanks everybody!
I was able to load Go launcher on mine - it looks nice.
My wife is also technically challenged - that said, it's technically her device, she preferred the native launcher - I do too.
Why? For her the ease of 'click to launch' all in one place rather than scrolling through screens.
Fwiw, my kids were able to turn on the device and navigate - the out-of-the-box carousel launcher is quite intuitive.
I found it (native launcher) launched the apps faster, actually - although ymmv - hence my preference for the native launcher.
Interesting, thank you for your time and input regarding this matter. I probably will download the app that will help my wife switch between go launcher and the native launcher app for the kindle. I'm running go Launcher on my SGS II so she should have zero issues customizing it to her likings.
Thanks again for your assistance!
You bet! Glad to help.

I tried Go Launcher, but didn't like it that much. Having used ADW on my Droid for a long time I decided to try it out, and I have to say I much prefer it.
I even have Beautiful Widgets running on it too.
However, a couple of problems I've seen.
1. I can't create folders?
2. There is no GeoLocate (even for WiFi), so I can't get the weather working. Anyone get this working or have any tips?
Passing on a little tip for those that haven't rooted and don't have the Android Market running. Beautiful Widgets requires the Market for themes/skins etc. What I've found is that if I download to my phone, and then copy the contents of /data/beautifulwidgets/scskins, skins and wskins to my Kindle, I am able to select the widgets.
ADW EX works great.
Launcher pro keeps FC.
The only two I have tried.
I just bought the Fire today and it is seriously a tiny tablet without a camera. Pretty cool.
I'm using adw.ex without issue. Only complaint is that you have to.switch back to the kindle interface to browse your books and magazines and custom desktop backgrounds revert to kindle backgrounds after screen unlock.

With ADW Launcher, and an almost opaque Beautiful Widget Super Clock widget, mine looks fantastic!

In the Beautiful Weather setting, there is a section for location settings. In this section, you can toggle geolocation and manually search for a location. I got it working fine on my Fire with Launcher Pro.

Wish I could remember which app I was playing with but I don't. The important part that I want to share was that it showed that the Fire internal settings showed that there is a GPS and it's on. Since there really isn't one perhaps that's why apps are having troubles. They query the OS and it's says there is an active GPS yet the data returned from the get GPS location call is worthless so the app gets confused. Whichever app it was that showed the setting also had the ability to turn GPS off. Can't help but wonder if that'd make a difference.

EDIT: I got ADW removed, maybe I was using an old version or something.
EDIT 2: I got a later version of ADW to work. The only issue so far is getting the "Kindle" application to execute.
Thanks

If LP is crashing for you, convert it to a system app in titanium backup and reboot. Don't select LP as your default launcher until you are sure it won't crash it you'll end up in a loop and have to adb to remove LP. Ask me how i know
