I just installed CorePlayer onto my device and video quality is extremely choppy, worse than my HTC Diamond. Do other people experience this problem, there is horrible pixelation and tearing in all videos. One reason which I chose this device over Android is b/c of Coreplayer but the video quality is horrible, I tried toggling the settings from GDI and directdraw, but nothing works, tried h.264 and xvid videos.
UPDATE:
Seems like turning off "Use blitting instead of overlay" solves the problem of intense pixelation and tearing, but video quality is still underwhelming when compared to stock player. But stock player does not play Xvid. When I encode directly from bluray VC-1 Source to 800x480, video quality is amazing on stock player.
Does anyone know what are the best settings for CorePlayer on the Expo, seems like there was a thread like this for the HD2 a while ago.
what version of core player are you using?

Not sure what you are doing when converting the videos, but I have never had a single video do what you are describing. You have to look at more than just the resolution when recoding videos. You also have to look at the bit rate and codec used. I download and watch anime on my expo without having to recode the videos at all. I even played a 1.3gb video in 720p resolution with no lag or other video issues. I'm using the tcpmp-0.72 so it might be the version you're using too.
What are you using to encode your videos? If you have to recode them to work on the phone, try using PocketDivx. It works like a charm. The only reason I use that is to make the file size smaller so it's not taking up a lot of space on my storage card.

Can you confirm that for me? Using TCPMP-0.72 you can watch 1280x720p videos without any dropped frames? Is this DivX/Xvid or MP4/h.264? What type of benchmark values are you getting?
Hey guys I just bought my desire hd and I'm wondering where I could find a good video file converter for free?
And what attributes I need to apply to get to play properly?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
The built-in video player will play avi, mp4 and 3gp
but could get vplayer from the marketplace and it will play pretty much anything

I have a few avi files I play on my ps3 fine and they only play about 2-3 mins before freezing on my hd? I have elf as 700mb file is this too big?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I've had a few 700mb files work but others lag.
350mb files work perfectly though

Is it normal that the DHD save all the video files I record as 3gpp? Shouln't be avi ?
Sent from my Desire HD
best video format to prepare for the gallery is h264 mp4 encoded at 15000kbps, main profile, level 3.1, its good quality and will play well even 720p, you can use adobe media encoder or free online converters like Red Kawa or super.
sadly no matter how much you compress it seems audio affects the playback smoothness, video without audio plays much better
stupidly the cam coder videos are h264 encoded but in 3gp file format which is hard on devices like the ps3
i have played 2 movies which are around 1.4gb both avi files with mp3 encoding. They play fine when using headphones i suggest to turn on Dolby mobile as the audio setting or SRS your choice.
Hi, I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. My wife recorded some video footage of our little lad using her Desire Z. She then emailed it to my Desire HD, but it will not play. I then tried Rockplayer, but it came back with a message referring to "attachmenprovider/parts/484 to play"- and refused to play it. It's in 3gp format.
I'd have thought there shouldn't be any issues with playing back video recorded on another htc device android device, our am I missing something basic here?
Thanks.
ive recently found out the DHD doesn't work well with video files. i can barely manage to play movies without having to lag. MKV files dont work out of the box, and youd have to buy that crappy VPlayer from the market (which doesn't handle it that good either).
on the other hand, my Nokia N8 (before I sold it for the desire hd) pretty much played everything I threw at it without lags/problems (out of the box too) and using only the stock player.
im not saying the N8 is better than the DHD. but its just a bit disappointing.
In terms of slow video playback, could slow speeds of SD card be the cause?
N8 has its advantages but for now I think it's mainly the camera lens, surprised to hear about the vid playback. I think android needs VLC player.

So how about RockPlayer. I bought it and wondering if it is a true universal media player on desire hd
Hello DHD owners
I've got my DHD today. I'm familiar with Android as I have used Leo and Desire with same OS. Now I really like the screen on DHD! I want to convert movies and other epic movies/clips I have on my PC. Last year I've ripped all my DVDs to my external hardrive.
Which settings and converter program is best?
Size is not a big deal, 32GB here, quality matters
I'm on costum ROM, overclocked to 1,5GHz. Just so make clear I won't have any issues with playback for lager file sizes. I remember I had this on my Leo while I was on WINMO. :/
Thanks for your time

Haha same. The HD2 was the only WinMo phone I actually enjoyed using! Hmmmm well you can convert videos in either 800x480 or 720p, as the Desire HD can playback both. However our phone has a screen res of 800x480, so best to go with the native res. Anyways, for high quality, I always use MP4 video format. Codec, Mp4 or h264. Bitrate, CBR. Approx. 1500kbps. Sound, 128-320kbps. You can also crop video to remove black bars, that's your choice. My arsenal of video converters includes: Pinnacle Studio, AVS, and most of the time DVDPean and Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate. Hope I helped
Note, too high values for audio and video bitrate can cause your device to lag. Keeping your phone OC'd above 1.22ghz while watching a video for 1hr plus may severely overheat your phone.
I found this app. Free Video to Android Converter
It looks a little silly, and nags you everytime you exit, but it makes beautiful movies at native res (800x480) from just about any format (avi,mp4,mkv,mov,wmv). It's also a bit slow, due to only using 1 core (I got 8 on i7).
All converted movies can play in the default player, with hardware decoding of course.
The settings I use is the preset for HTC Desire, Nexus One. Havent had to try any other formats.

I'll try this settings when I get home. I do a bit video editing, I usually use Sony Vegeas PRO. You can check here, I have only one video on this account, but few more in my other. www.youtube.com/user/ITuNaYI
I'll check if I can do it with Sony Vegas PRO!

I still play GTA IV, have done that for 3 years now. And there is a few pro players left. But it is like, everyone knows everybody. I also do have CoD BO, but not fun as GTA IV. Sub for more vids
DHD native player doesn't play flv format. Unconverted 700Mb video doesn't play smoothly on my DHD. It seems to lag badly.
I have no problems playing video's on my DHD.
It's still stock and i use Rockplayer to play video's.
I download a TV-show from the internets and i put it on my phone and it plays almost without lag.
Okay, guys, I'm back now. I had to flash a new ROM as it did not support HQ video playback. Now, I'm on Android Revolution HD, with LeeDroid Kernel. Overclocked to 2Ghz (!) I'm getting exlent performance.
I had totally forgot that I had Any Video Converter Professional, bought years ago. However, I'm now converthing a 1h 16m long Top Gear epsiode, just to give it a try.
Settings are;
Video Codec: mpeg4
800x480
Video Bitrate: 2500 (just testing it out )
Video Framrate: 25 (what do you think? This is default, should I change it?)
Audio Bitrate: 320
Sample Rate: 44100 (?)
EDIT!
I've rolled back to 1,2Ghz, as I did really not see any big improvment @ 2Ghz. Heat vs. performance ratio is not worth it.
However, I'm still converting that video. The problem is that the output file is about 1GB now And the input is 699 MB
It must be the high video bitrate!
UPDATE:
The quality is amazing! The final size was 1,44GB. But it is just perfect! I'm now converting even more
yet another UPDATE:
The avi files I have converted is in amazing quality. Now I'm converthing a Blueray movie. Lets see how this ends up
Hi all,
I've had my new Thrive for about a week, and have had no success in getting imported movie files to play without being slightly jerky, especially during scenes with some panning. I realize the Tegra chipset has to use baseline encoding, so I've used Handbrake with all the advanced settings off for H.264 / 720p with no luck. I tried decreasing quality / bitrate, even took a shot at an H.263 encode, same issue. Sadly enough, I've even downsized the video to 480p, and the issue is mostly gone, but it's stil there if you're looking for it. Having about given up with encoding, I tried some HD YouTube movie trailers and have noticed the same studdering / jerkyness when it plays back scenes with some panning.
I believe I have all the updates, it's the first thing I checked for when I got online.
Some posts that I have run across mention trying to disable the video enhancement capability, which I've done, but no change.
Just wondering if anyone else has seen this issue. (???)
Thanks for any input!
Yes I have the same problem. Even videos I take with the camera on it does the same thing. Every video regardless of quality or format jitters and plays very weird and not smooth.

I watch alot of videos on my Thrive and can say I encountered this once when I first got it when watching YouTube videos while mirroring on an led tv. However then I updated my Thrive and it went away and I never saw the problem again. So perhaps check is your updated or restart your Thrive?
I watch my videos from the SD card and am using a class 10 so perhaps if your watching movies from a lower class SD card you should transfer them to the onboard storage? I also stream anime from animehere.com and do not have any problems there either.
Edit:
I'm an idiot, I didnt see that you think you have all the updates, this is baffeling.

Yeah I also get that. The movie plays fine & the audio is in sync just when the camera starts to pan it seems like the screen is jerking or stuttering ever so slightly. I've tried AVS, Handbreak, DVD Catalyst & Xilisoft. Multiple times with multiple movies & profiles. Seems like this Tegra 2 might have been a bad choice for processors. The same 720p movies play just fine on my Evo 3D. Hopefully Nvidia comes out with a update that fixes this as I have read that all of the tablets with the Tegra in it suffer from the same problem. A huge FAIL on Nvidia's part IMO. Whats the sense of having a tablet with a 720p screen but you can't watch movies smoothly.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Yo, I'm not sure whether 720p works completely fine though but for any other res under that either VPlayer or Mobo seem to be able to play them relatively well.
Over the last month I've experimented with the Thrive and an Asus Transformer. Both have had the same jerky playback issues with my encoded videos, with the built in Honeycomb player. A resolution I've found for playing back my MP4 files is Dice Player, it seems to have gotten rid of the stuttering issue on both devices. YouTube is still a mixed bag, most low quality videos play fine, but the HD stuff will still have issues from time to time. I read somewhere that Dice Player has it's own system / codec files that bypass the built in files provided by Nvidia for the default Honeycomb player, I'm guessing that may be the issue...

Google it: tablet apps. There's a whole website dedicated to tab apps.
I use these: Evernote, Quickoffice HD.
Pulse is a really great tablet app for news articles etc. Takes advantage of the bigger screen quite nicely.

Wow... Thanks... Mx video is the best video player i've tried I just have one question. Is there any way the xoom can play 1080p mkv video files. They lag. 720p video plays perfectly. If there is no way to play 1080p mkv's, is there a format of full hd video file that can be played on the xoom. I know that full hd videos have a larger resolution than the display on xoom, but i have a lot of recorded full hd videos that i would like to keep on the xoom (so i can copy them to other computers if needed) but there is no point if the xoom can't play them and i would not like to convert to 720p. I'm willing to convert to some other 1080p format that can be played on the xoom.
Is there anything i can do?

here is what i do. for 720p mkv, diceplayer will play the video flawless. for 1080p, i convert my movies (they are about 4gb per blu ray movie) to mp4 using dvdcatalyst, which has a few xoom presets. so yes, you can convert a 1080p video to mp4 and still keep it as 1080p. it should play with no problems using mxvideoplayer.
I prefer Dice player over Mx player. Try it out. Never had problems.

yep I bought MX and it had a few juddery moments with some video... Dice player was very smooth.. I bought that then used Mizuu as a front end and set the default player to Dice...
Mizuu is great! the closest thing to XBMC! (looking)! downloads movie info, cast, case thumb and fanart.... coupled up with a 64Gb micro SD card loaded up with media! I'm ready for my holiday!!
Files by zenfield is very nice for file managing
I use kingsoft office for word processing, although not strictly tablet optimised it is the best in my opinion and contains the most settings, its also free which is an added bonus.
I like quick office HD 5, but I wonder, does anyone know if the galaxy not uses special hardware or is it just an s-pen and software. That app/port would be intriguing. BTW every XDAer needs xda premium hd

On the gaming side of things, I think Samurai vs Zombies looks and plays wonderfully on a tablet

Well, I use Rockplayer and Moboplayer to play my movies. My experience has been mixed. Some movies ocassionally produce some lag but others play smoothly. I attribute it to bad encoding more than anything. Otherwise Xoom is definitely capable of playing full HD videos but it downscales it to 720p on the fly and hence conversion should not be necessary. I have about 5 video players for this reason. Its a software shortcoming and different players play different mkv files properly. Till now I have not faced the need to convert my HD videos. In fact, I watched the movie Tangled in blu-ray 1080p format while reading it from an external hard drive and it played as smoothly as any other video.
