I'm a beginner with a rooted verizon fascinate gt-i9000. i tried to upgrade to darkys 9.3 rom from superclean via rom manager from the marketplace. my phone has been stuck on the boot screen with the samsung logo and gt-i900 on it. i have tried flashing to darkys 9.2 and the original i9000 rom with odin but it still goes back to the same screen. also i tried to flash cwm but it fails on odin. ive looked at many forums and tried to follow their instructions but nothing has worked. i can only get to the download mode. please help!!!
Hi,
I had a similar problem with my Samsung galaxy s i9000, flashed the wrong rom using Odin.....i tried stuff but made it worse as i am very much a learner with rooting & flashing.... as long as u can get it into download mode means it is fixable.... i ended up taking mine to a phone repair shop in.Derby & the bloke re flashed it for ¢30... i since bought a HTC desire & rooted it then downloaded rom manager which really is a safe way to flash roms. Rom manager can partition your SD card which is needed, then you download Roms directly in rom manager then it installs them.automatically....... be careful using Odin because u really can brick your phone if your not sure about how to use it........good luck

What is Verizon? Is that a USA network?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
There's no Verizon i9000.
i9000 = GSM, carriers outside North America
i500 = CDMA, Verizon (USA)
Darky's = i9000. Totally incompatible.

Yeah, you have this sorta backwards. Odin is what makes it damn near impossible to brick the phone (now that we have full restore sets). ROM Manager doesn't work properly on the Fascinate, and no matter what phone you're on, it won't prevent you from wrecking your phone by flashing A ROM FOR A DIFFERENT DEVICE (which is what the original poster did).
What he needs to do is get into download mode and apply one of the full-restore Odin packages (including pit file).

Download odin and the files in this post. That will get you basic froyo. From there you have lots of options on what roms you can flash.

Ok so i dont know if this is a dumb question or maybe it is. but hey Im no expert. Can someone please advise if i was to update the new update or the gingerbread, will i lose my root and unlock cus im using this phone on rogers network & we all know this is a bell phone. Please help.
you will not lose the unlock but root will be gone. You can root it after you install gingerbread the same easy way you rooted before...
Root wouldn't be a problem as you could re-root again (very easy). If you install a custom gingerbread rom it is probably pre-rooted.
As for the unlock your phone should stay unlocked, I don't think the update mess with your /efs partition.
One problem could be the loss of the 850 MHz band. I don't know if it's better to flash the KC1 modem.

Soft brick =/= actual brick. A bricked phone would be past the point of using odin to restore.
The SGS is probably the easiest phone to root. Just install a custom pre-rooted kernel trough odin/heimdall. No risk as you can flash back your old kernel the same way.
You are more likely to brick your phone flashing the phone with GB than rooting it once you have GB. That being said, the risk is very low. Follow directions and you'll be fine. I'm on an i9000m and unlocked it and have been running JVK for about a week with the KC1 modem and LOVE it.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Ok guys the Galaxy S is one of the most hardest phone to brick out there. Sure a lot of people experience soft brick where you enter a boot loop but download mode still there and you can flash with odin back to stock.
As to 850 Mhz you can enable it on any model firmware with a little trick found here
And as you can see it works I have 850Mhz working on JVK modem wich is the modem from the leaked GB before it was official. I founded it to be more battery friendly than JL2 and as fast if not faster.
p.s. That make me think I need to update my signature

Are you talking about KC1 modem, if yes than make a little test and let your phone with anything than phone at off (wi-fi/3G off and nothing open). Check how many percent of you battery you lose per hours during the night and then do the same after upgrading to JVK modem.
Fo me it was half the consumption with JVK compared to KC1 so I decidec to stay on JVK modem.
yes I did mean KC1 modem: initially installed the JVK but couldn't get the 850 activated -- can you remind me how please. Know it is a simple fix but didn't have the instructions with me when I did the install so flashed KC1 to ensure I had service.
Will let you know how the battery drains today on KC1 before I play around and swap so we can save others the experimentation: appreciate your help, thanks.
I think the process would be similar to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12172219&postcount=35147

Just curious if you've compared the two modems in a low reception area? Unfortunately I spend most of the day in a concrete building and found that my reception wasn't as good with JVK compared to KC1 (this was with JVK rom, i've since gone back to 2.2.1 with KC1 modem) Would love to have better battery life though!
I tried Simply Honey 3.1 and found unacceptable battery life. It was the first time I tried the KC1 modem so that may have been to blame.
I flashed Doc's beta JVB ROM, and it seems much better so far.
I wish I had stayed on the froyo ROMs that worked better, but I can't help to be on the bleeding edge.
I'm hoping Darky puts together a JVB ROM soon.

Just got a text from bell telling me I could update my phone through Samsung Kies. I'm running Darky's Stable 9.5 right now, do I have to flash stock rom before going for gingerbread?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
most likely unless you use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959806 to trick kies into thinking you got a stock one for your refion etc.
I just got this message too, but i highly doubt its gingerbread. Anyone actually find out what the update is?
I got the same message. Can anyone confirm that it is for Gingerbread?
Hehe, is anyone left using a stock rom? Lol
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Same....
Need some confirmation.
I just received the same text from Bell.
There is a new version of keis to install. Once installed it's showing I have the latest firmware at KC1.
Not sure what this is all about. Hopefully a prelude to gingerbread.
same here , hoping someone here can post what this does for them , im not on stock and not really wanting to find out the hard way what it is.
bell.ca/galaxyupdate
So from reading the information, there is no word on exactly what is being upgraded other than software. From speculation, wouldn't that mean it has to be 2.3 at least.
I just got the same text message so I plugged into Kies. It says this is the latest firmware. I upgraded my Kies last night and I am still on stock firmware (KC1). So the wait continues I guess.
I called Samsung support and was told that they were being flooded by calls over this today and that the notification was for the KC1 update. I've been running KC1 for about a month now... Bell Mobilty Canada slack much?

Are you serious?! That makes me so sad.
*sigh*
What a letdown...
Either way, thanks for the confirmation. Now we all know the reason the text was sent out from Bell. Our only hope now is that they (Bell) is trying to push everyone to update their phones to the latest firmware in preparation for Gingerbread.
KC1 compared to JL2?
Need some advice here. I'm still on JL2 (rooted). Thinking about upgrading to KC1, but I hear that doing so wipes out the root, and it's very difficult to root it again on 2.2.1. I also read that some people find the GPS performance went down with KC1.
So what are the actual advantages of upgrading to KC1? Or am I better off just holding out for Gingerbread?

You're misinformed. Rooting 2.2.1 is just as easy as 2.2. But it doesn't matter because KC1 is still 2.2, not 2.2.1.
KC1 any good?
So what are the advantages of KC1 over JL2?
Can I still apply oneclickroot on KC1 to root it?

Honestly, if you are 100% happy with JL2 I don't think KC1 would be worth upgrading to. Wait for Gingerbread or flash JVK/JVB yourself. I believe there are some fixes in regards to how roaming is handled but there's nothing you would actually notice.
The new update is just a modem upgrade that gives support for using this device overseas. It does wipe out root but superoneclick 1.9.1 reroots it easily.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
i assumed it was for KC1 since i never got any notice from them when it first came out. The KC1 modem apparently uses a fair bit more battery and it supposed to improve using your phone in the US.
JS8 with the JL2 modem has been the best to me so far.
If this is the case I won't bother to update to KC1, JL2 works just fine with my rooted ROM .
Does anyone know if Bell is even testing Gingerbread?

Well it depends where you have changed stuff. Best bet would be indeed download a gb rom for your phones region and flash it throught pc odin with a pit file. Follow dr Ketans thread in sticky section of development. If you do that you are likely to get default stuff back. After that a full factory reset on gb should help to. Google for reset code which you enter in dialer. Cant remember but it ended in 3855. Dont do that in ICS btw. All ICS has bug where wipe or hard reset can brick your phone
Where did you change stuff for your radio btw?

Stuck on android figure could mean files blocking booting, in gb from recovery you can do a wipe cache and factory reset. That should solve that. Tp get into recovery volume button up, homekey and power button same time when booting up

well for more information, i got the 2.3.6. hong kong (wipe) rom from dr k on another thread and its working beautifully.. however i do miss the 4.0.3 that was installed on this note at first...
i used ODIS to install 2.3.6 through computer.. wondering would i be able to use that for ICS?
and when i download the ICS rom does it have to be the HONG KONG version or any version?
sorry for asking so many questions.. im just soo curious haha.
Check your CSC code of phone. Dial *#06# to get imei. Enter that in *272*imei# that should match your rom in order to update. You can change it there to but it will initiate a full wipe.
Also if you are rooted best to unroot before updating via kies.

They are compatible with any HTC one. It just depends on the location and area. For example I can be in Atlanta and be running the latest modem and things be great and come back home and my speeds and service be terrible on that same modem and just flash another modem and things be better.
But in a lot of cases the .24 modem seems to be the best for everyone at the moment.

This is .24 improvement vs .13:
Download performance increase : 2-6 Mbps
Upload performance increase : 2-4 Mbps

Not sure if you need to be S-Off. You can always try flashing it via recovery. Look for 4A.14.3250.24_10.33.1150.01L. Radios are compatible with all HTC Ones not matter which model ID or CID as far as I know. I don't remember if I was S-Off or not when I did it but if you're not yet S-Off, use Revone. It's super easy.

Radios are compatible with all HTC Ones not matter which model ID or CID as far as I know. I don't remember if I was S-Off or not when I did it but if you're not yet S-Off, use Revone. It's super easy.

am I able to flash this thru adb?
I remember flashing another zip thru adb but im not sure if this will apply...and the necessary steps...
also..if I install a custom recovery..will it affect me installing ota updates? I will bypass rooting... im just adding arecovery so that I can flash the radio....
also..last time I flashed radios... I flashed the .24 and I wasn't able to flash back to the .15 etc...eventhough it said successful, my radio description was still listed as .24... I just want to flash the tmobile radio and have the tmobile apn settings...
unless there are brighstar apn settings or a brighstar radio
