This form factor is perfect and actually portable. The screen size being 10.1 seemed big reading about it, but after holding it, it's perfect. It doesn't seem as big as the iPad due to the widescreen shape. I am able to hold it in one hand. Those of you that thought the GT 10.1 is too big...it's not. Really isn't too much bigger than the current GT. Very impressed.!!! Honeycomb takes some getting used to. Quick and just different.

I want one. But haven't read anything about a wifi only version and am not paying for anoyer data package I wont need.
Will continue to wait for why I need to be made. Although the XOOM seems like a very nice little toy.

does it fit in our pocket?.....i rest my case
congrats tho. i would pick it up but i dont need another tablet. the tab does almost everything i need.

What puts me off is not being able to increase the memory capacity.
I find it limiting as it is with a 32GB Micro SD Card in my current Tab.
EDITED
By that I am referring to the fact the new Tab does not have an external memory slot.
The Xoom needs to have it's MicroSD Card activated at a later date.

cant take it in my jacket, too big for me...waiting for honey port with my 7'' sweety

Nice! If only I had enough money......

Very nice device...But a bit on the lofty side. Kind of rules out the portability factor when comparing it to the SGT.
Ich liebe mein SGT!

No pocket, no care.

With that thin bezel, I already predict a lot of "dropped" XOOMs in the coming weeks.

Could you post a full system dump?

well can you?!?!

The Xoom looks great. New electronics are always fun. Unboxing, powering up, etc. New OS version! I will say though that I too prefer the 7" form factor. You know how some people use both thumbs to text on their phones? I can't do that with a phone, but that's how I type on my Tab. I can respond to emails lickety split. Perfect size...
While I'm going here, check out Gun Bros on your Xoom! I bet its bad @55 on the 10.1 screen. I'm addicted to it on the Tab.

Having owned a Viewsonic GTab, I said goodbye the 10.1 inch devices forever. You will get cramps in your thumb (on the hand that holds the device of course) after prolonged periods of trying to hold the device comfortably. It was annoying also trying to carry it around and as a woman it should be easy since I can just throw it in my purse.
While the Xoom looks nice, I need the 7" form factor. The Tab fits all of my needs (especially since it's my primary phone).

Can you compare the browser and UI experience versus GTab? Is Honecomb really GPU accelerated like iOS?
Thx!

I'll stick with my tab as it fits in my jacket pocket witn no problems.
A larger version for me is verging on just getting a netbook
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App

For me:
Pros: 10" screen, Honeycomb
Cons: Weight, cost
I really cannot justify an $800 tablet when I can get the SGT or the Dell Streak 7 with 4g for $500.
And the weight is just too heavy. I like to read eBooks and the SGT is about as heavy as I want. I tried an iPad and quickly realized I had to hold it with two hands and even then it became a pain. Same with the Xoom.
But, I think the Xoom is very cool and I hope you enjoy yours. I am sure you will.

I still sticked to a 8.9 tablet, Im kind of tired of resizing every web page on my galaxy tab to actually read it, on the iPad(or a 10.1) no resize is needed

hmm i might have to try the xoom out

waiting for the G-slate 8.9 inch , 3d, honeycomb, Lg and samsung r almost the same anyway. look at lg optomus 2x and galaxys

Nexus T?

http://androidheadlines.com/2011/05/rumor-10-inch-toshiba-tab-is-nexus-t-and-google-io-swag.html
what do you guys think? will this be the nexus tablet? i sure hope it is.. as i am still waiting a announcement from google i/o before jumping into XOOM...
i should had have my xoom weeks ago, but my supplier delayed me.. and now google io is just a week away, i sure hope they announce that this is the nexus tablet.
and i quite like the specs. (don't mind it being heavier and thicker).
it has HDMI port (i belive is full size, not mini), USB port, mini USB port and a dock port as well.
the only thing missing is a micro SD card? but if the USB and mini USB works, we can just plug in any card reader.
But it is ugly. As you said, thicker and heavier. I hate that silver thingie.
Oh my, i hope this is not google nexus tablet.
Website says it does have an SD slot.
I am curious what the retail price on it is. if it is above or below Xoom mainly.
i hope it isn't a Nexus Tablet. I mean the specs are pretty dam close to the Xoom. Its like the Nexus S all over again. anyone who has a tablet already has no reason to buy it. Now if it had a Tegra 3 in it and not a 2 then yes it would be something to buy. I mean the USB port is nice and all but really the Xoom has a SDcard slot kinda the same to me.
how about the battery life.
it suppose to be 3x better than normal lithium battery plus its interchangeable..
my concern is always about updates coming stright from google.
at the moment, xoom's update comes from motorola, not from google directly.
hence at the moment, i am holding off xoom untill after google IO....
Pretty positive that at I/O there will be welcome packages of either the Nexus S 4G and the usual T-Shirt. At the keynote, I think they'll announce that everyone's getting either the Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the Xoom.
All I know is that it is what I am getting, I just purchased the Xoom to hold me over until it was released, my return date for the Xoom is in June when this is to be released. I hate motorola products but wanted something to see what Honeycomb was like and since this was the only one worth getting at the time well the only one that was around.
Acer and Asus are worse than Motorola, have owned laptops from both and quickly disposed of them!!! I have three Toshiba computers and like them very much, plus the back of that tab can be replaced with different color backs just like a silicone case and that is the ONLY tablet with a removable battery!!!
This is the link to the tab's web site. http://thetoshibatablet.com/
hmm good point made in the comments over there ... both front and back cameras are in portrait mode... Honeycomb is made for landscape mode use...this looks like a potential 2.2/2.3 tablet... hardly a Nexus.
Doubt it's the nexus tablet.
Evo Better Than The Best...
i guess we just have to sit tight till google IO to find out. which ever it is, as long as google is going to provide the update, i am getting that.

Yea this is a really big indicator. Honeycomb's UI is almost exclusively made for widescreen landscape use, not portrait. Not sure why they'd have the cameras set up for portrait use.
No, it is a Honeycomb tablet.

The xoom although receive updates from Motorola but it has no custom skins or anything anywhere whatsoever. So, xoom or nexus tablet are both good choices. Plus, the xoom were given away at either CES or mwc by google. That proves the xoom is already one of the few chosen kids.

weird camera placement for a honeycomb tab then. very weird.
love the XOOM cameras ... they're both very very good.
I'd guess it is simply being called 'Toshiba Tablet' judging on the URL etc.
and why not?
Also with the Xoom being out and about - I can't imagine Google needs a Nexus X device for a tablet? wait till 3.1/4.0 for another Nexus device?

Could be Atix style transformer or a tab-phone like the Dell streak???
What are your thoughts?
Looks like the bump is a "well" for a phone to dock into. The shiny plastic thing appears to be a phone. So a phone that docks into a larger lcd????
Not a fan of the bump in the back and the black plastic looks like it could be a scratch magnet even though it'll be elevated. Still nice though.
Looks like a new tablet to me. That was fast.

seems to be the logical conclusion, seeing as how they are asking us to guess if its a phone or a pad and the caption, break the rules; which means the distinction is going to be "broken"
seams like asus is going to dominate the tablet and phone market due to there crazy prices and high spec hardware. very good job on ASUS , also the first company to communicate to average joes like us on XDA
The Asus MeMo intro'ed earlier this year is supposed to be a phone/tablet hybrid,
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2375326,00.asp
so it probably is that. The raised bump looks to me like a way to use a thicker glass screen to reduce breakage.
Asus is still in its 1st-gen roll-out, and I doubt it would have another "new" model so soon. My opin is it's the MeMo. The 2nd-gen will be later on during the year, probably right before back-to-school, or if not that, then Oct/Nov, or before Xmas shopping season.
prob just a competitor to HTC flyer and galaxy tab 7, which no one will buy......
I wish Asus would focus their resources on fulfilling current orders before trying to sell us a replacement, lol.
My vote is a phone between 3.7" and 4.5 " that docks into a tablet that then docks into our current Transformer dock. It will be released around the time Ice Cream Sandwich is released.
Thats my guess.
i hope it isnt a 7 inch tablet, but a 4.5 inch phone that plugs into a 7 inch tab would be a great idea to have the ultimate portability, i doubt that would happen though lol

Is it really worth the extra 2.5 inches? I would think it would be at least a 10" tablet. Price will determine if this flies or flops.

The first picture does seem to imply you'll be able to dock something (most likely a phone) into the back of the tablet.

I had a 7 inch nook and the screen was huge, and fit in my pocket. My transformer stays with me at home , so a portable phone/tablet fits the bill for me.
If this turns out to be a phone that docks onto a 10 inch tablet (Atrix style but flush) and docks to the Transformer dock, I will be in heaven.
Please let it be so!

Will you sell your TF for the tab 10.1

Will you consider selling your TF for a tab 10.1 even though it doesn't have micro SD slot?
nope, hasn't even crossed my mind.
Nope. I might still buy it thought.
Noooo. Thats the whole reason I didnt wait to get the 10.1. No microSD = no dice.
no is the answer. why would i?
Nope. Why would I?
Not a chance. What would I use the awesome keyboard dock with?

I'm quite happy with my TF as well. I owned the Xoom before this.
the thought did cross my mind, but I guess you can say sanity prevailed!!
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Naw, pretty happy with my TF. If there is one thing I'd want to change is the weight. It gets heavy after awhile since I use it as an ereader mainly.
the price difference in addition to the sd card issue makes it no contest for me
If I can't get a transformer with no bleed... The 10.1 screen looks even more gorgeous
No.
The only reason I bought a Honeycomb tablet is the cheap price of the Transformer. With the lack of dedicated tablet apps I wouldn't pay any more for a Honeycomb tablet right now... with all the bugs too, it's not worth the price.
The tab also has no USB and no keyboard dock.
Why are people buying the tab when they wouldn't buy the xoom
They both do less than a transformer and they're way ovepriced.
No way I´m selling my TF... I might buy a Samsung tab (8.9) for my wife though.
I always doubted the usefulness of a tablet and after a week with my TF I´m using it far more docked than without being docked.
I think I'll just keep my TF and wait for the next generation(tablet using Kal-El or sth better).I even have ordered a sleeve for my TF.

Originally I wanted to buy the Galaxy 10.1 and was determined to wait.
But ... the presence of a microSD slot, incorporated GPS receiver, the docking station and most important the price (and it's not some cheapo never before heard of company) biased me towards TF. And I am more than happy. So no, I will not sell my TF.
The TF allowed me to hop onto the pad frenzy (no, I don't have the iPad1/2 though always wanted one).
The following months will bring the heat on to the market as more tabs are released. Giving us a plethora of solutions to chose. In the mean time I can sit on the couch and thank ASUS!
PS: I am surprised that so little people talk about the GPS receiver on TF. Seems I am one the the few that trully appreciates such a feature and I have to admit, I stick this in the face of iPad owners
All the chat in the mainstream press is going to be about the tab 10.1, however when it comes to it, I think the Transformer is much better value. The main things being the Micro-SD slot and more importantly (well for me) is the dock. I think the dock concept is awesome.
Now if someone was to ask me if I would get the 3G Transformer, or the Asus slider (which are reported to be coming out in a few months), the question becomes harder.

I want a 7.7 Note!

So I bought this new Camcorder and yesterday I have downloaded the 186 page manual before the thing arrives tomorrow. Been reading on 8.9 tab and on the 7.7 since.
The 8.9 works best for me at nightime when all lights are off. With lights on, the size/form factor of the 7.7 is better. The 7.7 screen even on minimal is TOO bright! However, this morning, I can't put the 7.7 down.
All I need now is a PDF annotator app. I have been using Documents to Go and PDF to go, but I want to set bookmarks and hightlight, circle stuff.
BTW, the only tablet for me that would better the 7.7 would be a 7.7 Note, with the pressure sensitive, hard small tipped pen. The flufly, blob pen we're forced to use doen't cut it.

my thoughts exactly... the 7.7 size is perfect....not too big, not too small... just needs an s-pen!
Agreed. I would go out and buy a 7.7 tomorrow but I am holding off because if there is a chance of a Note variant being released it would be my perfect tablet in terms of portability and features. It is more of a want than a need at present which is why I am holding off until Samsung chose to have their big press reveal in a few months for the GS3 in the hope that they slip a 7.7 Note in as well.
Yea a stylus is the only thing missing with the 7.7, hope we get ics soon and a capable stylus

The voice of reason, well done good sir.
I do hope this mystery Galaxy announcement for August 15th is going to be a Note 7.7. I'd pretty much drop some serious cash for something that great. Apple wouldn't have anything that could match it. Hopefully Samsung's powers it with the Exynos Quad rather than the older 4210. That should pretty much ensure the iPad mini would not be able to compete very well.
Yes dude, that's what we all want. I wonder if Samsung is waiting for the A15 soc to be ready. Or are they simply waiting for apple to launch their ipad mini and then present a better rival? I am surprised there are no rumors about such a great tablet, yet. Let's hope its due for this year yet.

Galaxy Note 7-inch just get the Wi-Fi certification? http://www.note2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=388
The trend for tablet screens is towards 1080p for viewing full HD media and I would not buy a tablet without a full HD screen even if it has an S-Pen.
The only Android tablets which have a full HD screen at the moment are the ASUS Transformer Infinity TF700KL with 4G/LTE and the Acer Iconica A700. with WIFI only and I would be tempted to get the TF700KL when it is available in the UK if Samsung hasn't produced an full HD tablet by then.
There is a rumour samsung and google are making a new high end tablet, but I doubt it would have this code.

Betting on the right horse is a blast.

I don't necessarily love that.
....It's just that Samsung is clearly the front innovator here.
As soon as they step up product manufacturing quality and get their commercial vector to focus, they will be on their way to absolute "portable communications + media devices" market dominance (...they may need to get someone new to achieve that focus...).

My wifi 7.7 finally came in yesterday. Thing is leaps and bounds over the Nexus 7 I had. Screen is absolutely superb and the speakers are great. Best part is I dont have to worry about it falling apart in my hand like that dam Nexus. When I got it out of the box it was on HC but immediately flashed up a message for the jump to ICS. Im really surprised how smooth it runs on ICS. Ive tweaked it to my liking and disabled some of the crap. But all in all im extremely pleased with it.

Considering my N7 was 250 and my 7.7 was only 270 through Verizon with mobile data for $10 a month with no contract plus a way better screen, better build quality, and looks way better totally worth it. Tegra 3 isn't all that. I don't mind the lack of development so much but I really wish samsung would support this like it really should. There are tabs still being released as new with similar hardware specs and have jelly bean and will still get updated. This tab really shouldn't of had HC out of the box when it was released IMO.
