Hi all. Does anyone know if mobile ap will be available with 2.2? I used it on 2.1 but can't find a signed install.zip. I know since eb13 is brand new so I don't mind waiting. If not, wha is a go alternative other than wireless tether?

Wireless Tether is even better then Mobile AP....and wireless tether is available on the market
Awesome. I will give it a go.

In 2.2 the hotpsot app is built in directly into the Settings.apk...this makes it a bit trickier to port...
As stated try Android-Wifi-Tether from the market..if you need Inferstructure tethering..you need to then download the 3.0 beta
3.0pre10 is the latest beta for it:
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_0-pre10.apk
Does wifi-tether work with any of the EB13 kernels? It's not working for me on genocide. I didn't know if it was worth trying out different kernels and/or versions of wifi-tether.
I am using Wifi Tether v3_0-pre10.apk right now on stock EB13, infrastructure.
If it crashes/restarts your phone:
1. reboot your phone
2. go to App Management, and clear app cache.
3. start & stop Wifi Tether with 4G and Wifi DISABLED.
4. start Wifi Tether again, when its running, then you can turn 4G back on.

Working fine for me on Genoice v.1a (DK28) ... shouldn't matter if it's DK28 or EB13, the kernel is hardly different for the 2 versions

Thanks. It says it needs a custom kernel, which is why I thought that might be the problem, but I'll try the newer (pre10) version.

Is there a way to enable the usb tethering on the Hero? I've read sprint disabled this feather awhile back. I'm rooted and use wifi tethering but my aunt just got a Hero (loves it btw), is not rooted and asked me could she tether. I don' live close to her or I'd root her phone. Is usb tethering a lost cause?
Thanks

you can do it on the 2.1 update (maybe just roms based off the update?) but you need to flash a VZW pri. to do so you need root? (citation needed)
i use the native tethering in cm 6.0 and it works awesomely. almost seems faster than my RoadRunner

Yes I know all is possible with flashing, which in this case is not an option. My aunt is not nearly technical enough for a root & flash.
Before we get into different prls. What OS version is her hero.
She is on latest 2.1 ending in .6
PDAnet and EasyTether. Just tell her to pick one, download it from the market, follow the setup instructions, and then tether away.
Is there any Sense ROM with USB Tethering?
Just flashed Froyo on my Epic, and now the WIFI setup shows "Error"...
It seems like I ran across a fix for Wifi issues, but can't remember, and can't find anything on Google. Anyone out there have a solution?

Not having any issues. Are you getting an error after the setup is started or immediately when opening setup? what rom are you running? Did you use a restore app to restore any user data?
What exactly did you flash (which rom or release)? Did you flash a modem.bin/modem.tar as well or just the rom? What did you use to flash (clockwork/redbend, odin/heimdal)? What settings did you use in your flashi.g tool (for example did you select phone or pda in odin if you used that?)

Also, do you have cell coverage and/or 3g? What aout 4g if avail in your area? What version is listed in your about phone(include the release and the baseband field as well)

Hey all,
I'm using Argen2Stone ROM and am wanting to put the stock 3G wireless tethering app back so I can tether other phones and my laptop, but have not been successful so far...
Can anyone point me in the right direction of how this might be done?
Many thanks in advance...

Moved to general as not android development
Well, I've also been unsuccessful so far.
I extracted my stock rom's system.img with unyaffs, then deodexed mynet.apk, but finally, installation fails...
try this app : wireless tether for root user
free in the market
It works great
Okay folks, if somebody could bring my issue to the attention of anybody who knows what to do about it I would appreciate it.
My issue is twofold:
1)I'm still getting random reboots with RandomROM Thunderhawk 3.3 despite the posting on the thread that says (NO MORE REBOOTS) Is there anything that can be done about this?
2)I checked my baseband version and the modem is still EC05, is there a way to flash or ODIN an EI22 modem for this ROM without getting a black screen when the icons should come up? Could this also be what's causing the reboots?
Thanks for anybody's help that is willing to give it.
Are you using a custom theme? And you have to flash the stickied modem delta. If you are using a theme, I would blame that.

I was using thunderhawk too and I had some reboots but onlyyyyy on the lockmod version. When I flashed the regular one I had no problems at all
And for basband I would probably try this
Nandroid backup
Flash "ec05 to ei22" its somewhere in the development section I believe
Reboot
If that doesn't work then a fresh new start is what I would Recommend
Odin back to stock
Root
Install cwm
Flash "eco5 to ei22" modem
Flash thunderhawk 3.3 (without lockmod if you could live without it)

I got the EI22 modem here and flashed it in CWM and it worked well. Only problem I had with thunderhawk is the lockscreen mod, and I'm having data issues on wifi after the phone's been on a while.
I was ec05 but when I flashed the Thunderhawk and it changed to ei22. never had a problem. Got a wild hair up my butt to flash the shadow kernal 1.0.6. Never been happier. no reboots, wifi works perfect, and very responsive. running a live wall paper and still get awesome battery life. give it a try
I saw several posts from folks having some wifi-4g interaction problems...switching back and forth causing one or the other to fail...is that a common problem to all 3.3 users, or are most people not seeing it? I want to give this a try, but I use 4g (at work) and wifi (home) everyday, so I'd like to see how common that issue is. I'm currently on Mostly-stock with Nubernel's latest released kernel...

So...bummer. I guess I answered my own question...I installed Thunderhead 3.4.3 and sure enough... I have wifi and 4g problems. Seems like going back and forth between the two causes issues...had it fail going both ways today. On a positive...man, that ROM seems pretty nice and his new install process rocks...was seamless going from Mostly Stock...

You could always try a clean install with doing a factory data reset in CWM and wiping Dalvik, flash ROM, check to see if stuff works, then do an advanced data restore from your last nandroid. If you stll have problems then the best bet is to set everything up fresh after the clean install.

The deal with the wifi/4g issue is that 4g will show 0.0.0.0 for ip, baseband, and dns if used after wifi in most cases. This is on official releases of 3.3 and newer. If you turn off wifi, reboot, then turn on 4g it should work. This is oviously annoying. Random provided me with alpha builds of 3.4 and 4.0, and the issue was squashed for me. However, the issue still persists in 3.4.3 official release according to some reports. I have limited access to 4g and can only test on certain days.
Thunderhawk is in a transitional period right now, and 3.4.5 should be released today. Random is hopeful this might solve some issues, including the dialer issues some are reporting with the 3.4 official builds. After that his focus will be on 4.0, which is EL30 based. Consider anything from 3.4 on a beta, and only run it if you want to help find bugs. Obviously you don't mind reporting or I wouldn't be replying lol. Just follow the threads and wait untill it looks stable enough for your usage needs.

Thanks! I certainly wasn't busting on Random's work...and I know he has limited access to 4g for testing, so that makes it harder for him to verify these things. So
I absolutely saw what you describe going from wifi to 4g. Going from
4g to wifi, I had wifi that wouldn't turn on at all (error when trying to enable), and, like you and others have mentioned, a reboot resolved both cases. I will hang out and see if he pushes out a fix soon, and just eagerly await 4.0. If it gets too annoying, I'll restore to my
Mostly Stock... Hmmm... Is there an issue restoring an rfs backup if I am now on ext4? Heh...

Just installed the latest 3.4 revision...I think...Heh. The update was so fast its hard to tell!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
And...confirming...the wifi/4g issue persists. 4g ip address is messed up on the first connect after being on wifi...reboot resolves.

Is there a hotspot hack for rooted mje? I rarely use unless cable goes down but it's nice to have a backup. I'll wait on rooting if there's no hotspot hack.
Or does wifi tether for root users work?

Yes there is, any of the current available ROMs have an available WiFi hotspot that works without any issues.

thanks for the reply now do I have to use a rom kinda wanted to stick with stock rom. Unless I don't have to use safe strap I never liked the idea of using up space on my device.

I'm not sure if it works on the stock ROM anymore. SafeStrap does not take up much space at all and Beans ROM is basically a pimped out version of the stock ROM with a bunch of additional features and less bloatware.

fwiw on MJ7 I have tried Android wifi tether and also that market hotspt toggle widget app (video), and neither of those seemed to work with rooted stock MJ7. But FoxFi works ($7.95 to avoid free version limitation), and so does "Tether Setting" (noboru)*. The latter is free, but only does WPA; but it requires far fewer Android Permissions than FoxFi.
Don't feel bad about being conservative. I've got rooted-stock-MJ7 in a secondary Safestrap slot and virginal (but rooted) MJ7 in the stock slot. For now, when I screw around with debloating or freezing, I only do that in a dev slot. Lame, right?
YMMV on MJE.
*for this one you might also need to use the trick where when the "you don't have a subscription for this" screen pops up, you just ignore it by using the Home key (rather than cancelling it).
.
I too would like to stick with the stock rom. I don't mind rooting, so is there an apk that I can install so I can tether?
Got my phone and tried Foxfi, and it works! I'm on MJE
I do miss Android Wifi Tether, just because it gave me a good idea of how much data I had used.
Has anyone had success using "WiFi Tether Router by Fabio Grasso" ?
This supposedly allows tethering also...
