Hi, I'm new to roms and I would like to know if theres a way to update my htc hero cdma with the 2.2 rom without changing my current network (Open Mobile) to Sprint.
I heard something bout APN, can someone explain me?
Thanks in advanced.
tried the apn backup and restore, backed up apn on 2.1 (Open Mobile), restored apn on 2.2 (Sprint) but it didn't worked still on sprint network.
It doesn't change your carrier, just the xml that displays the carrier name on your pull down and lock screen because most of the hero roms were made from sprint versions for sprint heroes, so no one cared.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Gingerbread-on-Hero action here!

Morinin'all,
For some reason my HERO doesn't detect any APNs from the my mobile GSM, the APN menu is empty!
Is there a way to force the HTC Hero to automatically obtain these APNs like the Nokia and Sony Ericsson and other mobile phone?
Thank you.
u can add them manually like i did
i took them from my old phone
yup ask from someone that uses the same carrier.. your all good!
Hey guys I would like to find an app or a way to have a look at my account settings for internet. As you may have guessed my internet is NOT working. WiFi works with no problems at all. Everything else works just fine..Calls,SMS,MMS etc.
I have narrowed it down to just needing to have it setup on my phone if you will. Would CDMA workshop be able to do this? If so..I have it installed but it does NOT see my phone. I am on WIN7 32bit and currently running CyanogenMod 6.0RC1 on my Sprint Hero...And MetroPCS is my carrier.
Any ideas suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! And YES I have searched for a few days on this...
I think if you are using a sense rom, there are some things that will let you change the account settings in the EPST menu. I haven't run a sense rom in 4 or 5 months so I can't remember how to get into it, but its like ##data# or something. then you will need your MSL code to get in.
I think people on cricket and metro though are using BetterCut in the market to launch the browser with specific WAP settings. But its been a long time since I read anything on it.
Hey guys,
Trying to do a little contributing, thought I would let everyone know something I found with the Droid2 when trying to flash to cricket, it will help you skip allot of steps in some other tutorials..
With the droid 2 in factory default settings, meaning comepletly reset and not activated on any network yet, get past initial droid set up screen by touching the four corners of the screen, starting upper left and go clockwise..
after you are past that skip over the setup and get to your home screen, open your dialer and dial *22804 and send, this will write a cricket prl and your nam to phone..
talk and regular text will work perfectly.. on my phone it downloaded PRL 32100 on the Droid 2 which is set up in crickets system as the (Sanyo M6000), on my actual cricket android device (Sanyo M6000) it has PRL 42100.. they are both on the 60Z android plan.
why there is a difference, I do not know.. In another thread I read that with the new plan etc.. all you should need is a evdo prl to get internet working on the phone since that plan needs no proxy, so autostart.sh and u2nl is useless, but internet will not work just by doing this simple programming method.
I would love to try and pull off the 42100 prl from the cricket android and write it to the droid2 to see if it solves the inet problem, but I have no software that can do it.. my trial for cdma workshop expired a long time ago, and I dont have the 100$ to pay for a single phone flash..
If anyone knows any other program that will copy and write PRL's on droids, if you do I would be happy to post the new 42100 prl for everyone, as well as any other files from cricket android that would be of interest.
p.s. after you program with *22804 you can start using just the base *228 without a problem.. if you try just the 228 first it will just try to activate on verizon instead of cricket
p.s.s. I really hope this is the correct place to post this and its not breaking rules, I have not seen this easiest way of doing this posted anywhere yet, so I just thought I would try and share
Please tell me that this is not serious?
If you activate the ESN to your account and dial *22804 or *22809 in some markets, it will download the prl file and program the MDN, MIN, and SID.
This is way old stuff and does not work in many markets, as it does not here in Houston, TX.
Thanks for trying to be helpful. I didn't mean to clip yo nuts.

Hi all,
I bought the AT&T Atrix 4G as I can use it here in Australia on the Telstra network. Is there any way / hack to allow me to use the wireless hotspot feature? Would be very handy; I obviously can't sign up for an ATT account.
I installed the new update, so I can't root the phone yet.
You can get root , go to the below thread, you will need to go back to the original 1.2.6 SBF, just follow the directions from the thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060
You shouldn't need root to enable this feature. All you need is to add a Custom APN. There's several threads on the subject. The link below is the thread that has the instructions for creating the Custom APN. I also found some thread where users with the latest update have no issues with this as well.

Try searching the Atrix 4G General Forum for "wireless APN" for more information. I hope that helps
I read somewhere that ATT is going to crack down on this. I'll see if I can find it.
I know this isn't an iphone but I'm sure it's the same thing on their end.

i use my atirx in Australia on Telstra as well and i lost my hotpost ability with the ATO update to .57 now i just get the msg saying my account isnt setup of hotpot. curse AT&t's black heart
I'm using the Atrix on AU vodafone's 850MHz network. also updated and also getting the message saying I need to update my AT&T account. :/
I wanna know it too. I´m in Brazil, with TIM network and i can´t tether because of at&t...
had the same problem after the update, im in canada. edit your APN settings to add "default, tether" under APN type.
No luck with that Fido. i tried it with a couple of different apn's that give me a data connection and im getting the same msg. Feels like its deeper than an APN combo

are you sure you entered it right? i got that att message too before i added the apn type...the mod to get mobile hotspot to work is just using the right apn. heres how i set up my apn set up, i only fill out two things.
APN = internet.fido.ca
then go all the way to the last option
APN Type = default,tether
also double check that the lock icon next to your apn is unlocked.
fido ur right i just needed to add default, tether to my apn type.
u had a space in ur original post throw me off a bit but i have it working now hope this works for every one else to.
How do I do this on ATT?
Just add a custom apn it works fine on att, I used it yesterday

go to the development section, there are a few threads with the att tether info.
Hi everybody.
Had the same problem like most of you. I´m in Spain with vodafone and after updating I couldn´t use my atrix as hotspot anymore so googling a bit I found this app.: android-wifi-tether.
After installing the app you get this message:
No Access Control!
Sorry but your kernel does not have all necessary features for the Access Control feature of this application. Access control will be disabled
This is the only issue I found, but the rest works great for me.
