[Q] Volume rocker functions on Froyo - Epic 4G General

I loved on 2.1 how I could just use the rocker to go from sound, to vibrate, to silent. Is there any way of enabling this on EB13? "vibrate only when not in silent" doesn't give the same effect, as the rocker goes straight from silent to low volume.

Seems the took out silent and only have vibrate, however if you get like a widget that has silent it still work, not sure why they took that away, but ive been without ever since i got on dk28, but just grab a widget and you still can get into silent i believe..

This is really annoying. Sometimes I need it to be silent, sometimes I want my phone to just vibrate. But it doesn't seem like that's possible with froyo..

I think one reason for removing it is because it is on the pull down menu now. Personally I like it better there.

Yeah but if you choose only vibrate on silent and then choose silent, it's not really silent is it? It still vibrates...
The reason why it matters to me is because I set my phone on a cradle while at work and I don't need the phone to vibrate because it's loud. I'd rather have it on silent.

If you go to sound settings then vibrate you can set it to "vibrate only when not in silent mode." There will be no vibrate only option, but you will have silent instead, without vibrate. Works through the rocker and notification bar

Right, but then the phone won't vibrate if I have it in my pocket. Stupid I know but it's useful for me...

That is a Android 2.2 feature, not a Samsung or Sprint thing. You can change it in the settings to either be silent and no vibrate or vibrate only. The only way around this is a widget like the previous post said.

Man I see your point now. I apologize I didn't actually test it. You can either have volume and vibrate our volume and silent. That does suck. Glad I don't use silent very often but that is a pain.

If you press volume up on the rocker to enable the ringer, it will vibrate. Unless you simply want vibrate only, and silent (no vib) only, then yes widget is the only option. What you want is not stupid, deleting that feature was stupid

No problem. I just find silent and vibrate separately as being useful. Whenever I'm in a meeting, I'd like my phone to vibrate when it's in my pocket so I know I got a message. But when I'm at my desk, it's annoying to have my phone vibrate whenever I get an email/text. For one, I have gmail open at my desk and 2, I just have the screen come on whenever I get a text so vibrate isn't really necessary.
Oh well, guess I'll explore using a widget. Thanks.

call volume always starts out quiet

Every time I answer the first call of the day, I have to turn up the volume, which is very low. Does it default to low volume from start up?
Also, I frequently put my phone on vibrate with no ringer, then back to full volume ringer throughout the day. This wouldn't have anything to do with call volume, would it? Sometimes mid-day the call volume is back to low.
I use a bluetooth when driving to work, but adjust the call volume on that device, not the phone.
Am I just doing something dumb, here?
Thanks

Stock T-Mobile ROM
That setting you mention only has the choices ring tone, and ring type, which I had on Vibrate AND ring.

ok thanks. This is my first Windows phone. Installing a different ROM seems over my head, unless I can do it on my MAC?

Stock ICS - Any way to completely Disable Haptic Feedback?

Basically that. I don't want the phone to vibrate, ever. It's annoying and loud. Hell, When i try to mute the volume, a loud vibration happens. ironic, and annoying.
I just want it off. Any way to do that? I'm not rooted. Running stock ICS. I already turned it off for the keyboard. But it still does it for other things.
Thanks.

[Poll] Lowest volume down - you prefer silent or vibrate?

I find it odd that the lowest volume down setting is vibrate. To me, that's not the most silent state.
Which way do you prefer it, with the lowest setting being vibrate or actually silent?
I'm fine with it being vibrate. I use QuickSettings for changing profiles anyway.

I agree, lowest setting should be silent, not vibrate.
Not a big deal, but just a bit strange if you ask me...oh well!
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
totally agree.. i hate vibrate mode.
In some ways it makes sense to have the vibrate at the lowest setting. It's easy to get to because all you do is hold the volume button and you're there instead of holding it down and pushing up once. Or worse yet, hitting the volume down as many times as it takes to get down there.
I use vibrate a lot, never silence. If I'm somewhere where I can't mess with my phone or have it distract everything, I put it on vibrate so I at least know I missed something. My girlfriend puts her S3 on silence all the time but if she doesn't put it back on at least vibrate, you can't get a hold of her because of it or if she forgot where she put it down at, you can't call it to listen for anything. Unless I'm in a dead silent room where even a vibrate would be rude, I don't have a need for silent mode.
I voted for it to be vibrate, but should ALL phones have that configuration? Who knows. But for me, it works.

Hah this (but in a nicer way )
Maybe email HTC and suggest that they offer the option to switch between the two in the settings?
I mean, when I'm in a meeting, having a vibrating phone is not going to cut it. If I need to covertly unlock my phone to go completely silent, hitting volume down x 8 times then volume up is kind of silly. And still a bit scary if the volume up didn't register, or registered twice.
I am using vibrate always coz i don't know the different between vibrate and silent....
You guys can change the settings of Vibrate profile so that it is actually silent, can't you?

LolliPop Removed Silent Mode??

So I went back to stock NK2 yesterday to try the OTA 5.0 update for a little. I noticed silent mode is gone. You used to be able to silence everything EXCEPT your alarm but now it will silence even your alarm which is scary. I don't want to have to worry about remembering to make sure my phone volume is up in order for my alarm to go off. I googled this and found other people talking about it also. For now I am going to Odin back to NI2 but I was wondering if there was a workaround or fix for this because I want to try some 5.0 ROMs but not if this isn't resolved.
It's not gone. They changed it to Interruptions under Sounds & Notifications. You have to set up what to allow through when the phone is in the different sound modes.
There are three sound modes. Sound, silent (vibrate), and mute. Using the volume key all the way down is silent mode. My alarm works fine in silent mode. One more press on volume down puts the phone in mute. A pop up appears stating that the alarm will not work in mute. If you use the sound toggle to switch to silent then mute it does not give you this warning.

Yea I saw the new options and they are pretty pointless. I am going to have to avoid lollipop until they bring that feature back. From what I've been seeing online there is a lot of people complaining so I hope they will.
I just don't wanna have to worry which setting my phone is on for my alarm to work. I'm back on KitKat now and it's nice to never have to worry. My phone can be on full volume, vibrate or all the way silent and my alarm will always go off.

It is definitely a problem. Hopefully it gets addressed in a future update. Confusing part is that in the Interruptions menu it says alarms always are a priority, yet using the volume keys it states that alarms are silenced. Major oversight IMO.

Yea I'm sticking with KitKat until its fixed..honestly with touchwiz there isn't much of a difference or a point to go to 5.0
Some days o really miss my S3 and unlocked boot loader. So many more options with ROMs. Even my original droid x and galaxy s4 had more of a dev community

Silent Mode

Is there no way to totally silence the phone from notifications except for putting it into airplane mode ? At the moment all i can see is silence the ring tone.

Hit the volume button, select Priority mode. To edit the notifications that come through on priority more go to Sound and Notifications, Interruptions. It's probably already setup like you want though.

Xposed has a module for silent mode. Requires root though.
Im finding it easier just to put the phone in airplane mode.Dont want to root the phone either.
When i hit the volume key a slider comes up to silence ringtone, but too silence everything you have to tap the arrow and silence notifications too,but still get vibrate.Must be an App going about to silence it.

If you put the phone on priority, nothing will vibrate except what you set up to come through. I use priority at night, and have my texts and everything on silent, but my phone calls on volume so I will get woken up at night if it's an important call from family.
If you want completely silent for every app guaranteed, put the phone on "None". Everything will be silent.
can just do voice command "(your wakeup phrase) good night."
automatically puts it into DND mode, and then when you wanna take it off, just voice "(wakeup phrase) good morning"
bam, all hands free. gotta love it lol
So let me get this straight because its driving me nuts. As of now when I am in priority mode I get no vibrations even from starred contacts. I will get sounds from them but no vibrations. Soon as I cut priority mode off all vibrations return. Is this true for everyone else?
