[Q] cwm3 for eb13? - Epic 4G General

[is cwm3.0.0.5 different from cwm 3.0.0.5/6 for eb13 froyo?][2/22/11]

That's usually why they change version numbers.

yea. i think they had to change a couple of the scripts for it to work. the old cwm3 was for dk28.. and evn though it was still froyo, it was different. so they had to make the scripts for eb13.. i think..

I ended up with CWM2.5 in the mean time while they iron out the problems. They have no rom to flash anyways. I just needed to be rooted.

I won't say anything even though you posted in the wrong forum. Just telling you so you don't do it again.
I do recommend switching to dj05, then using either super clean by jt or black hole by sonofskywalker.
I agree, if you haven't done any roms yet, you might as well go to DJ05. It is pretty painless. I'm running the DJ05 Super Clean by JT currently.

The first step is reading.
Well I've installed dj05 but I can't seem to text people when I do so. So I'm stuck with d101
Did you install a DJ05 ROM or did you install the DJ05 update on your phone?

I'm really curious about this as well. I have been having the same problem. My texts go out as blank "pages" and I cannot receive any. It only happens with the dj05 roms and not the di01. Also, so where would the dj05 update rather than the rom be found? Thanks.
Did you flash the modem.bin for DJ05?
It sounds like you flashed the ROM without the modem.bin.

[Q] An update.zip to go from DK28 to DI18?

(sorry if this has been covered in other threads, I searched and couldn't find it)
I found it on androidforums listed as a modified update.zip to bring DK28 phones back to DI18, but I'm not sure what it actually does. It's only 5mb, not ~100mb like the DK28 update.zip
Does anyone have an experience with it?

The only DI18 update.zip file is for going from DI07 -> DI18 (hence why it is only 5mb)

I believe the first link on there, you can attempt to try renaming it update.zip. Im not sure if it works without clockwork tho.. Give it a shot the worst thing that can happen is it will say aborted and wont mess up anything.
I'll give it a shot. Does it completely wipe the phone like Odin, or just change the firmware?

I think it just changes the firmware, i dont think it wipes anything, ive been flashing around roms on 2.1 and flash back to stock a lot and i never lose my data even when i wipe it..
Alternatively, is there a way to get Clockworkmod Recovery onto my DK28 phone?

besides the one click root, with clockwork, i dont think so, besides the long adb commands, which i dont know where that post is at but thats a lot of work.... But if you put clockwork on you can take it off with a simple flash of the samsung recovery zip also in the link above.
Thanks for the info.
Why is it so much more complicated to roll back than it is to go forward to a new version?

Well, not really complicated, just a few things you have flash to remove all the rooted stuff, if you use odin its still a lot of steps and more risky of bricking, i constantly see, new threads of people using odin by not following all the instructions and bricking there devices.
That's why I'm really hoping I can avoid having to use Odin to go to DI18 to get the official OTA update next week.

Dude, just look for the stock DI18 rom, rename it to update.zip, boot into recovery and flash it. That's all. I've done this several times before (although i'm now on a solid 2.2 Froyo rom).
It's a full rom, not a 5MB whatever..
It's that easy, and I don't clockwork recovery or anything?
Why does anyone bother with Odin then?
I think I have the DI18 rom, is 158,159,706 bytes the right file size?
You'll still need to odin in the di18 modem. Cwm can't flash a modem

DL09 Radio Only. Works Great

OK I had dj05 superdark theme and stupid fast djo5 kernal. Non Voodoo. All seems to be running fine. Can I run with this I'm not looking to redo my whole phone with a new theme etc. Or am I looking at having problems.

this doesn't really belong in devs.
you should not run ROMs intended for DL09/DJ09 with Radio/Kernel intended for DJ09/DL09.
Doesn't mean they wont work, it just means there is a higher chance that things will not work.
I myself have been running this setup for awhile now with no ill effects.
DJ05 rom, Adrynalyne test5 kernel (05 or 09), and DL09 modem.
good day.

Works fine. Radio has nothing to do with the rom
Yeah, it works pretty well between dj05 to dl09.
I've got the same setup. How would I get the DL09 radio instead of DJ05?
Use odin to flash the dl09 modem .tar.
Make sure you use pda instead of phone though.
I know this is redundant to you, but someone else might be reading this and you never know if they are going to make a mistake.

I made the same move a week ago or so. DJ05 rom and DL09 radio, then I tried 2.2 which was fine. Now back to 2.1 still on DL09 radio and dj05 rom. Its no better or worse honesty.

Is this for people who have flashed ClockworkMod 3 already?
Will I see this? I have ROM Manager v3.0.0.7 w/ ClockworkMod 2.5.1.3 currently.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm just a little confused.

Ah alright so now when I get it that should allow me to install Cyanogenmod 7 then right since clockwork 3 supports ext4? I didn't do the ENG-Hboot though. I'm assuming that could prevent me from doing any Gingerbread ROM?

Yeah for sure. GV has most of the gingerbread source kanged from CM7 anyway, with some visual tweaks as far as I have been able to see. With CWM3, you will be good to flash any G2 ROM that is available to us.

Sweetness. I seen that Eng-hboot in the Cyanogenmod 7. Not really sure why?
But I did Get Root using Rage & Gfree. I have never flashed back to an older recovery though.
Is this universal now or will I still need to downgrade to get back to

Ganii ran a test with it said he could flash between 2.2 and 2.3 with no problems plus he was able to do nandriods of both and restore them, so sounds like it is universal for all roms 2.2 and 2.3.

Yes,seems to be no problems there.
Come from CM7 Nightly,then I did a wipe data/factory reset.
Installed now CM 6.1.1 Froyo 2.2 ROM,works.
Did a nandroid backup,works.
Then tried to restore,works too
CWM 3.0.0.5 seems to work now with 2.2 ROMs too
i was on the 2.xxx recovery in rom manager and it prompted me to flash new recovery of 3.0.0.5. so I dont think its for people who already have 3.0.0.5
I had 3.0.0.5 already and yes it did promt me to update to 3.0.0.5 because proir to this everyones recovery in rom manager said 2.5.1.3 even if they were on 3.0.0.5, so this is for everyone.

Installed few days ago from here, but it`s the old one:
http://phones.crackflashers.com/vision/index.php?folder=cmVjb3Zlcmllcw==
Can`t restore 2.2 ROMs with this,so the recovery 3.0.0.5 which
you can download now via ROM Manager is newer.
Updated fine, just want to know do I have to partition my sd card
with ext 4 before I try cm7? I backed up my sd to my computer and
have cm7 and gapps downloaded and ready to go.
No,not needed.

Sweet, giving it a go now.

Successfully updated to EB01! .. in a funny way!

I was having a very difficult time trying to update my stock DL09 to EB01. First problem I encountered was CWM. If you root your phone and install CWM, make sure to install the 2.x or 4.x version instead of 3.x. It seems like once installing 3.0.0.8 (to be specific) it won't allow you to flash certain Roms.
The awkward part happens here... Because I had 3.x in the beginning, once I go into Rom Manager -> reboot phone to CWM -> it goes to 3.x and it shows me this error
"amend script(update-script) is no longer supported
amend scripting was depreceated by google and android 1.5
it was neccacery to remove it when upgrading to clockwork mod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
installation aborted."
However, after installing another CWM version through Odin, after I reboot my phone manually instead of going through Rom Manger, it takes it to CWM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery v.2.5.1.x (-_-
Now because i was in this, I was able to download EB01 with the help of this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948722
Another awkward part is that I didn't wipe data/factory reset when installing. Phone rebooted, it was updated WITH Root. How did this happen? I have no idea. But for sure it is updated to Froyo 2.2.1 and everything works fine.

Just wanted to share this story
That's like me saying, "I finally upgraded to Windows 95! It was very challenging, but, in the end, I finally left Windows 3.1 behind!"
Seriously, though, you know that there are many newer Gingerbread builds, and even newer Froyo ROMs right? Why not give one of them a try?
Has anyone seen John Connor?
Agreed, you are running something months old and also kind of ****ty. EB01 is a leaked build that was not very good. Were I you, I would upgrade to one of our gingerbread ROMs like TSM Resurrection..
Will def. do! i'm very outdated with all of these lol

yes...follow section 2 of the guide. odin eh03 then flash superclean3 or deodexed eh03 if you just want rooted stock! Superclean3 is rooted, deodexed, debinged, more customizations. Stay away from eh09 if you want stock like reliability. The eh03 is verizons gingerbread not a port like eh09/ei20.
