The "I didnt get my update on 9/30 because google forgot the admin password" thread.
SO when you get your update, please post here and let us know if it fixed anything..........
Or if it broke more things and now your battery only lasts 5 hours.....like the last update did to me.
Edit: as of 8:40 pm on 9/30/2010
We learned this evening that there were administrative issues getting this software loaded to Google's servers. We don't yet have an expected time when this will be available but will update you as soon as possible. Please see the statement below that was sent by the Sprint Product Management team:
We were planning to release an update for your Samsung Epic 4G on 9/30. The file was delivered and on track for distribution but late this afternoon, we learned that an administrative issue prevented Google from releasing the update as we had planned. We are working to resolve the issue and will provide an update as soon as we understand the new delivery schedule.
We would like to clarify that the timing of this update has nothing to do with the 30 day return window that many of you on these blogs have been discussing and that this delay has nothing to do with any last minute changes within the release package itself. The delay is simply due to an administrative issue that we are working to resolve.

IMHO, google and sprint and samsung have failed us one time too many.
My dad is ready to upgrade his phone tomorrow and he will be getting an evo at all costs. There is NO WAY I'm letting him get an epic after this clusterF**K.
I have 7 days till I'm 30 days out. Right now it's not looking good for the epic.
I checked this morning, no update available for me, and of course they didn't post it on Sprint's support page for the Epic. Fail Sprint, Fail. Guess i'll have to wait

Major update rolling out today that "fixes" the 3g upload..
Today begins the roll out of the maintenance release. It will be slowly released to all clients over the period of four to five days. Not everyone will get it on the first day.
^ Just to stop the "I didn't get it today and Sprint sucks and I'm canceling" gripes that always pop up.

Those will be posted regardless of you posting this or not. People will see the "I got the update on ...." thread, skip to the last page and type garbage and smash their keyboard every way possible because their phonez interwebz upl0d3 is c4pp3d.
I'm hoping a few people on XDA are in the first batch of releases, that way the update can be spread out to everyone else on XDA.
This upload cap is not even a big concern for me although i do like my phone to be perfect. GET WIFI
I agree there. I'm hoping someone will package it all up nice and fancy like the last update and I can update sometime today. would be nice
FYI: I think some of us heard about this update from a moderator on the Sprint forum regarding 3g upload cap. That's at least where I verified this update was on the way over today and the next 3 days.

You have no idea how big of a deal it is to people like me. And 90% of the people who want to use this phone to upload pictures and files to various different places.
What it's supposed to do...

Ahh, begins at Noon EST.
Hope I get the push, I have DI07 but have root/cwm recovery and most of the sprint garbage-ware removed. I'll probably just get it in update.zip form from whoever gets it first on XDA
Wish they'd just make it a downloadable update...
12am
I think that's midnight the morning of, isn't it? I think one of us needs more coffee and I'm not sure who it is.
It would be much nicer if it was a download... I'm sure someone here will post it as soon as they get it!
It begins at midnight EST beginning 9/30/2010 not at Noon =p

Ohh, fail..haven't had much caffeine to wakeup yet this morning.
It's all good =) Maybe you will get your notification at noon =p
It'll probably be posted in zip format here on the forum before 95% of us get it OTA.
IE, by getting a text/notification on their phones and not downloading from the link...can you please post where you are and approximately when you received your notification?
I just want to see if there's any kind of a pattern.
I think some of us prefer to just wait for the notification, rather than download it and have to jump through hoops for one reason or another, and those that haven't gotten it are probably wondering why and when they might.
Thanks in advance.
I'll second that, but my theory is that the server might be going by date of purchase- oldest first... I got my G2 just shy of 2 weeks ago, live in CA and nothing yet-
Just download it and put it on the phone. There are no hoops... it's super easy.
you can follow the instructions in my OTA thread (which was apparently moved to Android Dev.)...
I was going to wait for the OTA update initially but I came to the conclusion that it was going to take a while before I received it...so I updated manually.
Very simple process, nothing can go wrong & you'll notice a great performance boost in the phone itself.

I agree took maybe 10 min to do it all.
i just did mine manually why wait till u receive the update.
in terms of finding out if some1 in ur city has gotten it and what not... as far as i knew from the g1 updates, they were sent out randomly. it didnt matter if u were the 1st person in the world 2 get the phone or last.
this is what i have heard and read from my g1 days. supposedly it was a random thing.
Just got mine about 5 mins ago....Long Beach, CA.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

I got mine yesterday... very early. I preordered the G2 so... there might be something to that guess of date of sale. Who knows though? really, just download it from the link. Any newb can do it in like 10-15 minutes. no need to wait...
Its completely random. My wife and two friends got theirs on different days. I just said f it and manually updated

Got mine this morning Friday mornign around 8 or 9am in metro Atlanta
Can't you use the CHECKIN code to force the OTA? My wife just got the G2 a couple days ago, I did the checkin, and within minutes she received the OTA.

If I were T-Mobile, I would actually try to *ensure* that the OTA goes out in a geographically random manner. Geography would be the one of the *last* places I would look for any sort of pattern. It's probably done via IMEI #s.
When I checkin it just says it checked in and that's as far is it goes.

I checked in many times and it doesn't really help unless you have been out of service or had the phone off... it will come to you when its ready checking in doesnt really help any in my case... I checked in over and over and over... this morning on the way to work the update just came... made my morning!

It won't notify you of the OTA until it's done downloading it. To see if it's downloading, go to Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates. If the checkin works, you should see it downloading there.

This morning I woke up about 10 minutes early by a faint light on the floor, it was my screen on full blast lol, with the words, "Upgrade radio etc etc blah blah." O went ahead and click yes and accept and about 10-15 minutes later it was done.
Havnt noticed anything yet, I hope my once every 2-3 day radio loss will stopp happening. Ill drive home and when I get home my radio will be off (no reception) and airplane mode if off also, nothing has been triggered. Only way to get reception back is to restart. Since it only happens once every 2-5 days I dont consider it a big enough deal to bring in. Especially since i dont have dead pixels and i have a strong hinge.
I just bought my MT4G and have had it up and running for 9 hours now. It says I'm running Android 2.2, so I assume that means I have not received the OTA update yet. That wouldn't concern me, except my friend who got the phone the exact same time as me as already received the OTA notification. The only difference between the two phones is my friend's has been on Wi-Fi the whole time. Should that help, or is there something else I can do to request the update?
theres a thread on this, but U can't really do anything but wait. theres no rhyme or reason to when. Took my 3 days. doing *#*#checkin#*#* suppose to check for it, but didnt help me

After 48 hours you can call tech support and try to get on the batch push list. That will take up to 7 days, possibly. I just hit my 7 day period late last night -- still no update. Taking my phone in to swap it today since that was the next resolution the last call to tech support gave me.

Hmm that's discouraging. I'd really like to not have to bring my phone back in. Hopefully it shows up soon. If it hasn't within 48 hours, I'll call tech support. Thanks for the info.
It's surprising that my buddy got his update within a few hours and while connected to Wi-Fi. Cellular data wasn't working yet because his account hadn't been provisioned correctly, yet he still got the update before me!
You can force the update yourself now so it doesnt really matter either way... if you just want the update and not root just do the first half and stop when it gets into the rooting part... but the only reason i can think of for you wanting the update badly is so you can root it :/ but maybe not... anyway heres the instructions:
[GUIDE] Forcing update 2.2.1
hope that helps

Hey Troops! I just picked up another OTA firmware update/enhancements for my beast, SM-N986U1, CTLB(Jan.21).Received it sometime b-4 05:30 hrs.(EST) via my wc, affectionately referred to as t-mob(not sure after 10 yrs. with 'em what the "t" represents, but trust me the "mob" stands for mostly over bull****!) lol
It's coded as an update /enhancements pkg., as many of you know by the "U" in place of an "S", or Security pkg.(If your confused, that's because I'm a Pro, and good at it..getting folks mixed-up)! For that, I have provided a screenshot with developer notes explaining it's usage in great detail with my s-pen, to help resolve any confusion I may have caused you(unintentional I promise, see arrow). Happy Friday, Ya'll!
You're a bit behind the times. Most of us got it around Monday or late last week.

The last one you received CTLB was an actual software update or enhancements received, as if they tweaked something in the coding to make a device function run smoother, for example. The first OTA we received CTL7 was the security patch for January '21.
Thanks, @znel52 and @evnStevn!
