do u have any custom roms on it? i personally expected the performance to be better when i had the stock rom. but then after flashing a while, i love the blackstone.. so try custom roms maybe untill u find one that gives u the performance that u like on it.
i do not have a custom rom.. was afraid of stability /security problems.. do they really make the hd faster?
Yeah really do they make hd faster? If yes which one is the best for normal usage??
The ROM:s here @ xda are the main reason I did not sell/scrap my HD long ago. With stock ROM, I think this unit is slow, ugly and just bad.
Look around, a lot of ROM:s here are sooo much faster than stock. I promise you will never go back.
For the best speed experience, I recommend using a 6.1 ROM with 2.1 Manila. I can not point out any speficic one obvious, take a look in the charts already suplied in the ROM part of this forum.
I am using a win 6.5 ROM for the moment, but speed is a bit lower.
Good luck!
try using a wm 6.5 based energy rom 2.1 manila
it will change ur whole outlook of ur hd........

there is 2.5 now.. i skip that?
I agree. The stock rom is a piece of Sh*t. After swapping to a custom ROM, you'll never look back. Don't be disheartened if you get one with glitches. Just keep trying different ones until you are happy with one.
The first couple of times it may seem slow and cumbersom changing ROM's but after a while you realise how easy it really is. Just remember to backup important data first.
Good luck
seriouslly even if i use a latest stock rom?
i just dont understand why can folks like us make a better rom than htc themselves ..

Haha you're a senior member here but you don't get it. Custom roms on XDA is the reason why I choose HTC and windows mobile. I used to hate windows mobile alot, but once I found out about its portability, customizing my phone has been my hobby. Thanks to XDA, the crappy old hermes I had made my friends jealous.
On why folks like these guys here can make a better rom than htc, you have to flash one to find out. I once read an article from mircosoft that reads something like this "microsoft cant live with XDA-devs, but at the same time, can't live without them".
Try one but make sure u follow the steps especially the Olinex part. Good luck

I own WinMo devices since HTC Wallaby. I am not very long with HD, just recently bought it.
My Opinion WinMo is like Windows on your desktop, after while it gets slower and slower and Reformat (hard reset) is the best thing to do to bring it back.
I also would suggest you to use one of the cooked ROMs here. Again my Opinion W6.5 is eye candy and my own experience is that is not that Stable, and fast as WinMo 6.1 ROMs. Furthermore I really don’t see jet the major usability improvement in 6.5
I am business user and I need a very stable Device. I flashed with this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537948 very happy with it
hahaha good one bout me being senior..
yes i know .. i just dont understand why the companies themselves dont strive to make the best one lol
and for the rom..
yes buddy i used the same as u ...3.55 but how do i get the usual start menu back..
Again most 6.5 roms are very stable now and are ready for everyday use, if you are after a fast rom that is similar to your default rom, try Topix 2.9.2, it is currently the fastest ROM running 6.1 according to speed tests = Search the forums for performance tests.
http://www.pocketpc-live.com/touch-hd/best-rom-for-htc-touch-hd.html
You will be more than happy flashing the latest 6.5 roms, just make sure you don't get any manila 2.5/2.6 roms as people have previously expressed they are still not as stable as the 2.1 roms.
Research, read and flash which rom you feels best suits your needs, or looks the nbest etc. In the end not everyone has same tastes, so you may find that you flash a few roms before settling on one you really like. By then you will probably have become a flashaholic like everyone else. Either way you'll have a better phone.

I'm a newb to android and pretty impressed with stock. Just looking over some of the crazy things people are doing, I'm wondering what the latest and greatest thing to do with the My Touch 3G is. From Which ROM/software to run all the way down to settings and Apps. Would really appreciate the run down. Thanks

The Answer
hey there. im gonna actually answer ur question instead of telling u to search. okay well there is really two things u can do, maybe three.
1) install cyanogen's ROM
2) hero ROM
3) donut optimized ROM
my first choice would be cyanogen. visit his site:
www.cyanogenmod.com
this rom is basically the most stable and fastest rom out there. its running the 1.6 donut firmware but it is highly optimized. this is what i am using now. second option is to install a hero rom. i would try either eugenes rom or maxisma's hero roms. they are the best and they offer the best support without being rude. check them out here:
Eugene:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=575501
Maxisma:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566965
third option (which i dont recommend) is to use an optimized donut rom that ISNT cyanogen. i wouldnt even bother with these. these are the three roms i would use. take care.

People would be more willing to help instead of just saying to search for the answer, if the OP had posted this in the right section of the forum. This belongs in general, not development. That's why Evil and I did not help. As you can tell by my link, I posted the forum rules and how you need to post in the right section because development is not general, like this question is.

All opinions are subjective. I would flash dwang 1.11 to your MT3G as it runs a lot more smoothly than Cyanogen. Look for dwang's rom on this board as IMO it is the fastest and most optimised rom for the 32b Magic/MT3G.
Yeah dwang's rom is really good. Using it right now. And there are good alternatives for some of the Hero features. Beautiful widgets or weather widget (skinnable!) instead of Hero flip clock. Advanced Launcher if you want more home screens, spelldial for responsive touch dialing (can't live without this one). And the touch keyboard from Hero is available (search HTC IME, this keyboard also includes XT9).
As for the wrong section;
Maybe subtexts for the categories would help a bit?

Welcome to Android and hello from a fellow MT3G user. Important things to know about modding your android phone, the Mytouch 3g = Magic 32b. This is important and how developers explain which rom (build) is for which phone. The second most important thing to invest in is a CLASS 6 micro SD card. This is very important, class 6 is the speed of the SD card and a very fast SD card is needed for running any HERO rom. HERO roms put files on the SD card that are needed with normal usage so if you use the SD card that comes with the phone (class 2) it will run slow as hell. A good, cheap class 6 SD card is this 8gb Adata card for 17.75. This is the SD card I use. If you're still on the SD card that comes with the phone, you're not out of luck. I would start out with Cyanogen's 4.3.2.1, his current build. His builds have the latest and greatest features while not starting from a hero build. It does not have the super fancy UI, but still looks a lot prettier than stock, is rock solid stable and runs extremely fast. Check it out here.
I'm assuming you've never rooted an android phone before, so when you're ready, which this step-by-step video on how to root . I would certainly recommend watching the video a few times before you do it and make SURE to follow it exactly. Good luck, have fun and post up with your thoughts and experiences.

So what are the benefits from running different roms? Will the processing be faster? In other words, if you (the reader of this reply) was a salesman and I (acscott22) was the customer why would I want to switch roms? What am I going to notice from making the switch?
does the mt3g need partitions or do you need them only for certain roms?
quick question
Since HTC has already stated they wont release Sense UI for any google branded phones (Mytouch 3g, etc) instead of flashing a Hero rom, wouldn't it be easier to flash a vanilla unbranded Donut ROM onto the Mytouch and then add the Sense UI?
not sure if anyone has tried this yet though

Well, a salesman wouldn't really tell you to as it's all a bit nudge-nudge wink-wink and voids your warranty.
Pretty much you'll be allowing yourself to do things you wouldn't normally be able to do with a stock ROM, some of which would help speed up your phone a bit. It's not so much about just speeding things up but exploring the potential of the phone to its fullest. Not only that but you'll have all the latest and greatest updates without waiting for you carrier to release them over OTA! Impress your friends! Befuddal your enemies (see; iPhone users)!

Only with ROMs that support/require them, primarily for App2SD (instead of storing applications in the phones internal storage storing them in on the SD) and/or a swap partition to free up RAM. Most of the time it's not necessary but you'll be missing out on the additional, beneficial functionality.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure Sense UI requires a lot of dependencies that are only present in Hero ROMs, and can't just be brought across wholesale from said Hero ROM to AOSP builds.
ok but HTC has said that they are going to release sense UI to unbranded Magics. Not sure when, but they did say that it was going to happen. I guess I'll have to hold out. I cant go without bluetooth, but I really like the Sense UI of the Hero Roms.

I've been a lurker for quite some time... and I always feel like i'm missing something. I've already got the cyanogenmod, but what you posted I found was helpful. There's a lot of roms out there, there's lots of lists, and many have a lot of information in them. Informations good, but it's nice to see it summarized in just a few sentences.
Sure a lot of posts are reposts... but sometimes those good because older stuff needs updating/clarification.
Thanks!

Thanks man, I've heard so much good about it, but lately there have been so many bugs/problems being discussed on the forums, that I'm slightly scared.
Okay, thanks for the advice, will do. I just was looking at some ROMs, and saw how awesome Energy looked with MaxManilia haha
Hi there! Welcome to XDA Developers
I see your HD2 is arriving soon! Trust me it is SHINY!!!
And you'll love the way the device balances in your hand. Anyways, i'd suggest first of all to learn how to use the phone. Like, familiarise yourself with the layout, play around with the camera, and best of all flow through the Sense UI.
To learn how to flash ROMS, go to the HD2 Rom development section and head into the HSPL Guide there. Everything is mentioned step-by-step. Follow instructions carefully
That said, i'll strongly advice you try out more than one ROM, as each chef has his/her own unique taste and preferances. You're sure to find a ROM that's "just right" for you!
Remember to install Chainfire's HD2 Driver Patch, as that'll make your device run even smoother. Finally, browse through the General forum, and make sure you check out the Tips and Tricks forum, which is a life saver! If you want, also update your phone's Radio Version (found in the ROM Development Section)

I suppose that the cookie mod imitates the iPhone's app screen? Maybe people will be like "My device has 3 UI's in 1: iPhone home which is what the cookie rom seems to do, then there's the WinMo Start button, when you tap that, you get the Program menu...and last but not least...HTC Sense
Plus it gives a more wider base for the HD2 to stand on (if that made Sense)
Mind the pun

Well there are 2 ways of getting the 1.66 Rom, first would be HTC's website, then Support, and go to the ROM update (You'll need to enter some digits found under your phone battery) OR...you can go to the HD2 ROM Development section and then look under the Stock Roms (easier and faster in my opinion than going all the way to HTC's website!)
Ps. EnergyRoms are amazing...you won't know until you try and experiance it for yourself! There are many tweaks etc applied...and it has a cool theme set. You'll also get regular updates

Hi all
been a while since i was on here, was originally with touch HD, liked the clean firmwares available so that i could install my own apps.
Anyone know of the same for the HD2??? im looking for as basic as possible, even if HD2's crappy interface could be killed too.
Please, im only looking for an opinion, try not to flame me for being lazy, i just cant decide on what im looking for yet..
like i say.. been a bit... and more.

stop being lazy!!
You best off looking in the ROM DEV sections, theres a few "clean" roms floating about.

keep an eye on the cleanEx ROM series. the ultimate version is very clean & fast: ~255mb free memory after install.
Cheers for that all
looked at the cleanex stuff but looked like a few apps were still on there. are those not able to be removed? or can i maybe uninstall them when i have installed the rom on the unit.
will be doing this at the weekend i think. sounds as good a time as any to start.
What's in the ROM is cooked into the ROM so can't be removed - only way would be to ask them to do a special ROM for you with said items removed...
Hey all!
Is it at ALL possible to either flash the ROM from the Touch Pro II or find a way to install Windows Mobile 6.0 or 6.1 onto the HTC HD2? I NEED stability in my ROM and this is what I really want to try.
I know I've been asking a lot of questions on this site regarding this phone, but I want you all to know I truly value your answers and your help.
Thank you guys!
Well have you tried the ROMs that are known to be stable? Theres quite a few..
Also maybe try titanium (windows default) if you're looking for simple, basic stability.
I have. I've tried four or five and they just get to be too slow. I like the Windows Mobile 6.5.5 builds but they just get to be laggy at times, and for a phone with a 1GHz processor I'd expect a whole lot more.
I don't know, I was just wondering what 6.0 or 6.1 would operate like on the HD2. That or find SOMETHING that's very quick and very stable.
Try Dutty's cdlc or UnOff.. What are you using the phone for? (work, eye-candy, both?)
I'm not sure about 6.1, can't see why anyone would want that on this device.
BTW, nice location just a few miles away from me..
Oh WOW! You ARE close to me! Haha, 253! Neat
I really want to use it for multimedia and texting first and foremost. After that I really just want to use it for internet browsing and photo uploading. Well, MMS capabilities are a must too.
After messing around with the ROMs I did, I jusst started to panic about making the wrong choice on the phone. I had hoped I didn't, however I want to take FULL advantage of the processor speed and the RAM. Definitely. Problem is, nothing works! AGH!
I'm currently using UnOff... and texting is still god-awful.
Have you tried Swype? Its a dream to work with once you get to know it. In fact, the reccord for txting was recently broken with Swype! I use Energy rom (The "unstable" 6.5.5 ver) and I do need to reboot the phone about once a week, but thats still a LOT less then my 6.1 Tilt. You really REALLY dont want to go back too 6.1, trust me. The OS does not have a lot of features needed for good use of the hardware in the HD2.
P.S. Woodinville and work in Redmond. Seattlites stick togeather!

Yeah UnOff is a good ROM, you could also try Laurentius26ROMs
SUP SUP WASHINGTONIANS!
Anyways, try the Omega XT Roms, indie updates them constantly and they are pretty good.
Oh wow, look at all of us Washingtonians here! WOW!
I'll try the UnOFF ROM again, or even an Energy ROM. I just want this to work and I'm sure you all understand why
Thank you guys for all your help! I'll let you all know what happens.
I would suggest either the Miri 17.6 rom which is very stable and fast and has great eye candy or VBN rom series. I currently running VBN and it's great. Very stable, no crashes, fast. I think you would like either one of them. They are both located on the Euro HD2 rom side, not the TMOUS HD2. Both are compatible with 576 ram and 1gig storage. Check them out.
try kwbr Roms ... I am on 4.0.1 version
Stock like ROMs
CruzerHD rom
What you are looking for is the CruzerHD rom my friend. Super fast, stable, and very very slim on memory (only 35mb used after flash).
Rom is not about eye candy but about speed/performance. You add what you want yourself.
CruzerHD premium rom v.9
Wow, guys, it looks like I have quite a bit of ROMs to try out! I really appreciate your time, y'all rock it!
try kwbr at htpedia.com
com2 version 21914 htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1692&page=102
I've tried them ALL! THIS ONE IS STABLE. period.
wow! there are a lot of washingtonians here! my mom and sister were born in WA, and i lived in Lacey for most of my grade school years. I almost became a Husky but decided i'd rather do grad school there and hopefully work for MS someday... Thats the dream anyways...
But, back on topic. I dont believe 6.0/1 is possible because the HD2's HAL is not compatible with with any 6.0 devices. basically, you'd have to re-write all the drivers in the Hardware Abstraction Layer so that they can talk with the 6.0 ROM. its the same reason WinPhone7 will probably never make it to our phones. ya see, there are no "generic" drivers for phones. thats why only phone with similar hardware can share ROMs.
i say use kumars ROM. its my personal fav
Man I know how OP feels, I was looking for a ROM & flashed Energy & it works like a dream! But now that I have Froyo 2.2 on here I hardly ever switch off of Android. It totally lives up to the hype!
Yeah WA!
I feel that a lot of the custom Roms have too much, well, customization. What you need is the barebones. Check this one out. Been using it since June and I have't had any slowdowns yet.

And yes it was designed to work on the Tmous handset even though it's on the International handset forum. Works on both.
