Hi i bought this phone yesterday and it is carrier locked to SMART Telecom Philippines.. can someone tell me how to debrand/unlock the phone making it usable with other simcards? Thanks
Hi!
I have the same question of the title: I bought a X8 branded by "3". I just wanted to know HOW to debrand it, I don't need to flash any custom rom actually, I just want try the phone with the original generic firmware, but without any "signs" of my operator.
If I just connect the phone to computer and try to reinstall the firmware with PC Companion, it will not debrand it, isn't it? Do I previously need to root the phone and then flash it with the original firmware downloaded somewhere else?
Thank you for answering, I really appreciate your help, I'm very new to the beautiful Android world!
Have a look here
Thank you , but I asked for a different thing, I don't want to unlock the phone removing the operator lock, I just want to DEbrand it, removing any images, apps, other stuffs related to my provider. I want a "clean" X8, like if I bought it without any SIM
change ROM

you can do that by using another ROM. I had an X8 with stock android 2.1 and now it's android 2.2.9, fully functional. No trace of operator , of course.
Thi will not unlock your phone.
DougTheModder,
you can grab original no-brand SE ROM 2.1.1.C.0.0 here
I'm using it on my phone ex-3-ITA-branded (like yours).

Hiya,
I've recently bought an Orange HTC hero off ebay
Searching around there seem to be several ways to get around the simlock:
i) Buy a RebelSim
ii) Flash to a Non Orange Rom and buy a unlockcode
iii) Unlock CID lock with bespoke serial cable and buy an unlock code
iv) ??
I'm not so keen on chopping my simcard or option 1 would be the way to go?
option 3 seems the least destructive but I've never been great with a soldering iron!!
is there another option (iv?) ive not yet found or your experiences on the above would be helpfull
Thanks
(ii) is probably the easiest, but before parting with your cash, check that you can definitely get the code for your device. As far as I'm aware http://www.htccode.com does not have problems with Orange phones anymore as long as you've flashed the ROM to something else.
Regards,
Dave

just a quick one, you did try an orange sim in it didnt you>? make sure its not blacklisted?
checked it
I used a checkmend report before purchase to verify it was legit
There just seem to be specific issues with the orange heros and unlocking
Have a look over that, something about the orange original software stopping the unlock from working,

You may want to read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=708962&page=1which is more up to date then this and speaks of the current easy way to unlock a Hero on Orange includes a link to eBay where you can purchase an unlock code.
Hi all,
first of all appologies if I am posting this in the wrong place but I don't think it quite belobgs in ROM development .
My question is basicaly how do I find out what CID lock is on my HD2?
I bought the phone sim unlocked and all is fine. It works fine with my Virgin sim (UK). I would like to upgrade to the latest official ROM as I don't feel ready to experiment with cooked ROMs just yet.
However when I log on to the HTC web site and try to download a ROM it says "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
I have tried it from both the UK and Europe web sites but get the same result.
The current rom shows no branding of any sort, also there is non on the phone itself.
Is it CID locked to an operators SIM's? If so how do I find out which and will I be able to get a ROM from them if I don't use them?
Or will I have to go the HSPL route and go cooked roms?
Any Help or guidance greatly appreciated.
Regards
Clive
There are truely unlocked phones, and then there are those unlocked but the serial numbers are blocked on request of the service provider. Vodafone, O2 and (I'm guessing) Virgin do this so you can only upgrade when they OK the ROM release.
You can install HSPL which gets around all that and lets you explore the wonderful world of cooked ROMs...read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
ROM lock and SIM lock are not the same and not connected.
If the HTC website says invalid serial, then the ROM is locked. (Probably to Virgin, if that's where you got it from) and you must wait for them (virgin) to release the update. That is the ONLY way to install a new rom without using HSPL/SSPL
EDIT - Oh, and your line "Or will I have to go the HSPL route and go cooked roms?", , , , HSPL isn't just for cooked roms, it will let you install official HTC roms too, if you want, not just cooked ones.
I didn't get it from Virgin, my SIM is Virgin and that's what I put in it. I bought it privately. I'm guessing then it is CID Locked to Vodaphone or the like.
OK so it looks like HSPL is the route to go?
If I want to install an official HTC ROM how can I download it as I have to enter my serial number and it gets rejected? Are they available elsewhere?
Am I likely to loose anything (apart from guarantee ) by installing latest HTC rom and any advice on which one? I guess by that I mean EU or UK versions?
Thanks for the replies by the way much appreciated
Its pretty important that you know who it was locked to, because to uninstal HSPL, or to fix it if things go bad, the very best thing to have available is the stock rom. As for losing guarantee, if you bought it privately then you already lost that, right?

Pretty much although I could send it back through the seller.
Is there way way I can get a copy of the current ROM/SPL out of my phone and save it as a backup?
Hi!
I'm completely new to WP7. I bought a HTC Trophy last week that unfortunately is branded with Vodafone. I live in Sweden and bought it from a company here in Sweden who take the devices from Europe. I don't know the exact country. I guess it is a Vodafone device from German since the pdf manual on the CD is German.
My questions:
1. How can I be sure that I choose the correct ROM?
2. If I choose wrong, will I brick my device?
3. Debranding. I guess it's a one time procedure? If I debrand it I will get the updates directly from Microsoft and the device is still debranded after a update?
By the way. Great forum! Developers, keep up the excellent work!

1. Go to Settings -> System -> About -> More info
Find your operator here from this thread
Then you need to find appropriate ROM for your device.
2. It should not let you flash wrong ROM even if you try. Update utility check your phone model and CID. So it should be safe.
3. If you unbrand your device, you will still get updates from MS, and from HTC. If you for some reason want to install branded ROM later, you can do that at any time (if there is a branded ROM for your device), check here.
i am going to use this thread to post a question. After battling with wm 6.5 for more than an year i went to wp 7. I am new to the operating system and i wan't to know if there is any real need to go for a different Rom than the one that came with my device. Is there a need to unbrand the phone?

Well, for me personally I unbranded my phone mostly for two things.
1. The annoying Vodafone page that I came to when pressing search button in Internet Explorer.
2. In the future I hopefully get the updates as soon as Microsoft releases it. When branded I had to wait for Vodafone to test the update.

I'm actually planning to buy a WP7.. wondering does it same as winmo which we dont nid Rooting ? or it is like Android or iOS tat we nid rooting/JailB ? thanks..
Debranding has nothing with jailbreak to do. I'm not sure if jailbreak is possible on latest WP7 release. For me jailbreak isn't an option. Just wanted to get rid of all Vodafone stuff in my device.
Hi apart from my GSII I also have a Samsung Omnia 7 WP7 phone which is an ex Optus Australia phone, but I'm using a Crazy Johns SIM in it.
Basically what I'd like to do is to de brand it and remove that Optus splash screen at start up, is this possible to do.
I dont want to put on any custom roms thanks and leave the WP7 on it.
idea...
The only way to do this is flashing the unbranded samsung rom on it.
See this guide, link to the rom is in the guide. The risk is minimal, as you dont change the bootloader but only use the flash tools that are also used by samsung...
as above
Hey there,
first of all, english is not my main-language.
So I got my Samsung Omnia 7 repaired because I got this ****ty Bootloop-Problem. I googled this problem and I found various Thread that said "go flash it!"
So I flashed it with an old T-Mobile Firmware.
Well...I contacted Samsung and they got me a new one today (they repaired it). So it's working again but now I have the T-Mobile Firmware on the phone which results in having a Netlock. So my E-Plus Simcard isn't working anymore.
I've already flashed the phone once again with a custom ROM but there's still a netlock. Simlock, SP lock etc. are all on "disabled", only the Netlock is "enabled".
So...Is it even possible to "unlock" my phone with a custom software? I mean...it was fully unlocked...then I used this ****ty T-Mobile Firmware-flash-thinngy and now it's locked. Do I have to pay for this Unlock-Code? Or can I flash it "away" with a special custom ROM?
Would be nice If someone could help me out here!
Cheers and thanks in advance
EDIT :
I got this T-Mobile firmware my Phone has a small "Orange" Logo on it's back and the manual was in french so I think it's from Orange France....so there's no Chance to get in contact with them! Got the Phone from ebay last year!
