Is there an app I can download that will let me use the camera's flash as a flashlight? I tried one that did not work so I figured I would ask around.

I wouldn't say this was worthy of starting a new thread, but here you go.
TeslaLED works just fine.
Droidlight by Motorola works fine.
Tiny Flashlight worked for me.

Anyone else have the second light (the yellow one) flicker with the flashlight app, or do I need to get a warranty phone?

It seems the bottom buttons sometimes don't respond to touch. It takes a few taps to wake them up. Anyone else notice this?
yes i have, but mostly the home button... but once all of them are lit, the sensitivity goes up for some reason

No they do not. I wish they would stay on as long as the screen stays on. On the Samsung Fascinate for Verizon, they button DO stay on, so I believe this will or could come in a future update.
As for the sensitivity, I think they work great. I haven't used an N1, but on the N1 all the reviewers complained about the buttons, and with this phone, no reviewer has complained about the buttons so far, so I bet they are better. As for me, I have no complaints with them either.

Huh, I was gonna say mine are too sensitive, as I can hover over them and they go off without touching them. Then again, in the winter time static electricty always finds a way to knock my on my butt all the time. I should prolly stay indoors during lightning storms.
hopefully there is an update or tweak to keep these buttons powered on as long as the screen is on!

Looks good.
one thing I noticed is that when the keyboard pops up, its not swype. I thought it was supposed to come with swype? maybe it does but you have to enable it? but if they advertise it as coming with swype, you'd think that would be the default keyboard. not that it matters to me since I'll install it either way.
The pictures are awesome, this phone is gonna rock. Come on kick ass multitouch controller.
Damn finally there's a preview out there. I've been checking cnet and the link you provided every damn day. This is about to own it up.
Thanks for providing the link.

was flipping through screen shots and their a htc logo at boot. looks like no google and g2 logo. backlit keys would be awesome as well as trackpad notifications.
That was a prototype model, you can see the engraved serial number on the front of the device.
Tight photos but still no indication that it will go into landscape mode w/o sliding up the screen to reveal the keyboard?
If anyone knows. Holla at me.

I believe all android phone have the auto rotate. Its just a setting. So we shouldn't have a problem with that the g1 does it

yeah the keyboard lights up. it has a light sensor for the keyboard lights. plus a proximity sensor... darkens the phones screen when you put the phone to your face for a call to save battery. the lcd backlight is also sensor based so it will auto adjust for you too. Those are all features on newer htc models. they come in handy on my mytouch slide. of course, you can turn them off too exept the keyboard light. that one is automatic no matter what. you can hold your hand over the sensor though, lol, but that is never needed. the sensors are EXTREMELY accurate.
Wish it was getting the noise-canceling mic like the N1. Came in handy while driving.
I wont miss the noise-cancelling mic on the N1.
Whenever people have a hard time hearing me while on a call, I usually have to cover the extra mic with my finger. That improves the sound quality on the other end every time. It never worked right for me...

spare parts was only in custom ROMs if I'm not mistaken. the spare parts app provided the extra setting of allowing you to keep your home screen in portrait while auto-rotating otherwise. auto-rotate is a standard feature in android

Are we sure that the phone has no "Noise-Cancel" mic on it? In the video provided by Engadget it looked like it did?
I'm sure now. Holding the G2 and no signs of another mic hole anywhere.

While reading in night, the LED light of the 4 function keys(at the bottom of Vibrant) is really dazzling.
Anyone knows how to turn it off just by software mod?
Thanks in adv.
Black electrical tape over it
Wear sunglasses to bed?
Seriously though, when I'm reading ebooks with Aldiko, the backlight only comes on during page flips....for all of about a quarter of a second....if that.
I don't know of any software mod to change the timeout period. The Epic4G has a setting for this I believe. Best of luck...
Thanks anyway.
Still waiting......

I don't think there is a way to do that as of yet. Maybe you should ask one of thĂȘ devs or post this concern in the development section. Ignore the a-holes.

Hey don't knock the Sharpie marker idea I use it quite abit on a lot of electronics
It is REALLY LOW TECH but it WORKS !
I'm on donut HD rom, yesterday, one of those led's present between the hardware keys is not working. Only one works. Tried removing the battery, didn't work. If I look at it closely, I can see it dimly lighted
LED'S don't fuse, then why did it Happen to me?

but for real, I haven't understood anything.
One of my leds isn't very bright either. I think I will just disable them.

let me explain!
the violet leds present between the hardware keys, or i mean the leds left and right to the home button,
yesterday when i was playing restaurant story(game) i saw one of these leds fading slowly and then now its not glowing, though i can see then with my eyes closely to the phone
Maybe you don't need them. or the lights just doesn't work and needs to be fixed buy a repairman

This made me LOL real hard. And you can just lock your phone and use the black screen as a nice little cutesie mirror.
lol
whoops , i did honestly think that the pin hole on the top right was a camera. i have a case around the phone so couldnt really tell.
Ok so in that case what is the top right used for? im charging the phone at the minute and it is further to the right than the green led????
