Basically, do you like your homescreen filled to the brim with widgets? or do you like the cleaner look of icon rows?
Also, are you the kind of person that has 7 homescreens filled to the brim with widgets and icons, or the kind of person that has three homescreens and only uses them for a clock on the middle one and facebook/twitter on the others.
I am deffinetly the 3 homescreens guy.
Both - I have a mixture of widgets (weather, time, FaceBook, news) in addition to applications (gmail, texting, maps etc). 3-5 home screens, give or take.
3 Homescreens.
Main home screen is search widget, weatherbug widget, and Elixir widget. Also 8 icons (SMS, 2 mail, IM app, calender, market, map, and aftermarket browser). Screen to the left; music widget, pandora widget, youtube widget, and 4 icons (all media related). Screen to the right of main home page, power control widget and 12 icons (all related to OC, benchmarking, rooting stuff). Thats it.
3 home screens, calendar on the left, clock and weather in the middle and messages on the left. I like it clean and minimal
I have 7 homescreens with LauncherPro, but only use 4 of them. Main screen has Fancy Widget Pro, Curvefish brightness and 2G/3G toggle widgets, uptime widget, and Moon Phase Pro widget. Left screen has Facebook and Google Search. 2nd left has 4 x 4 Plume widget. Right screen has LauncherPro calendar.
No icons on the home screens, only widgets. I put icons of my most used apps in the LauncherPro dock, which has 3 screens of 5 each. Makes for a clean look.
7 homescreens with LauncherPro. Main (4) is blank, so I can see my spiffy wallpaper in all its centred glory. Most of the rest are icons aside from the power widget and a calendar, leaving a row or two blank to avoid mis-taps when swiping back and forth, and for aesthetics.
3 homescreens. Clock on one, calendar and notepad on the other two.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
One homescreen. Four Simi Folders, and about three icons.
I really can't deal with the swiping cost to change screens.
I have 7 screens but only 6 have junk on them. The home screen is blank minus a clock. I use widgets and icons. I try to make a theme of each pages, i.e. game page, chat page, important page, etc. Plus a few photos on some pages where there were blank spots.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I use the default (5) homescreens on a stock launcher.
When I first started with Android I was all about widgets, then I realized that I never really use many of them and they just take up RAM/CPU/Battery, and now I've gone to more icons than widgets.
Home screen: 1x1 WatchDog widget, and a 1x4 Weather/News widget, rest icons for normal things like messages, market, XDA, etc.
My other screens have 0-1 widget and are generally categorized. aka I have a screen that is just music/videos/etc. another with productivity apps, and one for games. I use my far left screen for my nerdy apps like ROM manager, Titanium backup, File Explorer, and Terminal Emulator.
One screen. Use the ADW launcher with 5 icon dock. Only 4 shortcuts on the desktop. No widgets. Power control widgets in the notification window. Drawer organized into catalogs.
Htc flip clock widget, the rest of main screen is icons. Other 4 screens are htc widgets(calendar, people, fmradio) and a postit note widget
Sent from my MyTouch 4G Slide via XDA app
A mix between them. Starting to use less widgets due to me not using them and battery drainage.
Widgets all the way.
I moved from iphone cuz of widgets, also cuz everyone in my family got a iphone. Do you know how hard it is to tell which iphone is yours when everyone put on the coffee table. (and no we don't use cases)
Primarily using widgets now and down to 3 screens.
Home Screen has Simi Clock and Simi Folder - Use the Folder Widgets to access regularly used applications. I have 4 icons on this screen - SMS, Gmail, Dialer, Settings.
Right screen - Score Mobile Widget & Scrollable News/RSS Feed Widget
Left Screen - Pure Grid Calendar Widget & Power Control Widget.
News, WeatherEye, ESPN, Facebook and Twidroyd widgets, everything else is icons...
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
3 home screens. Left screen is colorized widgets Facebook widget (4x4), center screen has fancy widgets pro home (2x2) and right screen has colorized widgets agenda widget(4x4). 5 Icons in the dockbar(phone, gmail, drawer, sms, browser) and 6 icons in the hidden dockbar(ADW EX).
I'm a fan of the minimalistic look.
I have 5 screens & generally have more widgets then icons.

Hi,
I'm using HTC HD Mini for last couple of months now. Though I love some of the weather, clock animations, at times I feel its slowing my phone.
Does anyone knows how to hide the clock, weather and call history section from the home screen?
Can I have just simple wallpaper screen without these animated clock and call history section?
I would love to see the static wallpaper instead of these animated widgets.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
- Abhijeet
That would be awesome!!!!!!!!!
All settings->home->items and uncheck HTC Sense choose home plugins you want.
Not like that way...
There's no way to remove the clock, weather, and call history link on the homescreen.
Although i found a way to speed things up. The biggest resource hog among them is the weather app. Disable the weather tab, and do NOT update it. Let it just die off after a few days.
With no more data for weather, and the weather tab disabled, the weather animations and info on the homescreen will soon disappear. Leaving only the location written under the big clock cards. This will free up several megabytes of ram. I'm not sure exactly how many mb. But somewhere closer to 10mb. Giving your HD mini phone a boost in stability and speed.
Until Cookie's Home Tab isn't compatible with HD mini I think it won't be possible to rearange/add/remove items on HTC Sense home screen. Unfortunately Cookie Monster is not going to do it, but he allows anyone who can do it to base on his work and port it to HVGA, so we have to wait... I hope
I was messing around with the homescreen settings on luncher pro and I changed the number of columns and number of rows, so now my Icons and clock widgets are all F'ed up (not lining up). Anyone one knows what the default settings?
Not sure on exact default, but I believe 4 on columns and 5 on rows.
I'm pretty sure its 4 row 4 column pure default. Most people around here use the above stated 4x5 though that have launcher pro plus (To resize widgets)
I have pro and when I re size widgets, the widgets don't change size, just the surface area the widget parameters take up. I have tried on the weather channel wide widget, and the analog clock widget.
Is that normal?
Default is 4x4 but I find that 4 columns by 5 rows works really well in both portrait and landscape.
Tip: once you get it back to normal, make a backup copy through the settings menu, then fool with it to your hearts content and go back whenever you want!
Thanks boys for the replies. Its 4x4. Great F'ing app BTW.

Most widgets will just do that when you resize, but some widgets (such as the picture frame) will actually resize the entire widget instead of just the space that it takes up.
I saw similar questions in other forums, but never an answer - is it possible to link the HTC Sense clock/weather widget so that when you click on the weather portion it links to a 3rd party weather app (i.e. my-cast weather lite) instead of the HTC weather forecast?
I love the HTC widget, but prefer my-cast weather's more detailed weather forecast for seeing in-depth info. Feel silly having the HTC widget and then have to click a separate icon for detailed weather. Would love to consolidate space and have one lead to the other.
Possible?
can't find any way of doing what you want... However Beautiful Widgets does offer that, not just for weather you can have it open different apps when you tap weather icon, date icon or time icon, on they don't have to be specific to what you tap, ie if you tap the weather icon you can have it open your my-cast app or Stupid Zombies or any other app you want it to open.
before the BW haters start beating up the thread, no it's not identical to the Sense weather clock, but it is very similar and unlike the Sense weather clock you don't have to flash a theme/themed ROM to change how it looks, after paying for the app you have access to literally 100's of free themes/skins for the Clock, Weather and Battery icon (can't run battery and weather at the same time).

Thanks for the reply - yeah I didn't think it'd be possible to do this with the native Sense widget, but thought I'd throw it out there to the people who know more than me. Even though I'm running Sense, I think I'll go back to BW, I bought it back when I was with my MT3G so I should still have access. Just would have preferred this funcionality with the sense widget since, although they look very similar, the HTC one is just 'cleaner' and smoother in its operation, i.e. weather animations and clock flipping. But the customizability of BW makes up for that I guess.
Thanks again!
Ok - another question. Figured I'd post it onto this thread instead of starting a new one, hopefully people will check it out...but is there any way to get the HTC weather animation (or a similar effect) WITHOUT having to use the widget? Decided to skip the widget and just keep weather temp in notification bar via my-cast weather. Only thing I'll miss is the animation, which was cool.
the only ways I have found to get the unlock animation is to have either the Sense Weather/Clock or Beautiful Widgets.
EDIT: okay while messing around I did findsomething you might be interested in. If you have BW installed, setup any of the "Home Weather" or "Super Clock" widgets, make sure you check/turn on "unlock animations", save and apply widget. after that even if your remove the widget from your homescreen it will show the unlock animation.
yes, it gets very boring waiting for UAW workers to unload your trailer.
Nice, thanks for the tip! Might be perfect. Will check it out.
Is there a launcher that allows widgets to not have margins? I want my widgets to be close together. I cant find a way to do it.
You have to use something like nova and choose like a 10x10 grid..that's the only way I think would work.

Im using nova and any grid size just doesn't work right. Say you have a 4x2 widget. Then you set Nova to 10x10. Now set the 4x2 widget. To make it look right the size changes to 10x3. Just doesnt work. Basically I want to put 3 widgets on my screen. one thats a 5x2, 5x3 and 5x3. So I would need a grid size of 8x5. But If I set it to that the widgets dont fit at all. Its because the widgets have to be re-sized so big to look right.
BUMP Until I get a answer
The only suggestion I could find for your question isn't free. Next Launcher allows you to freehand resize all widgets (meaning does not "snap to grid" resize) , even overlap. This is the lite version so you can try before you buy...

Lefty is exactly right. I've been using next launcher 3D and that's actually one of my favorite features that NO other launchers can accomplish (that I know of).
Some widgets just have funky dimensions, so it's nice to able to resize and place them literally anywhere on the screen. They can partially overlap as much or as little as you'd like.
This can also be done with apps...it looks messy, but you can turn off the grid completely and place the app icons wherever you want. You can even rotate the icons! And I won't even get into all the 3d features...I could go on forever. This is by far my favorite launcher and I've used quite a few.

The issue im having is this. No matter what launcher I use. Next 3D included. If I make the GRID Size 10 x 5 I should be able to have many widgets on my screen. So a 4x2 weather and a 4x3 Pulse and then a 3x4 Hangouts Widget and then a 2x2 photo. So I should just need a 4 x 9 grid right. Wrong because the grid is so big the a widget at 4x2 ends up being a 4x4 to view it all. I need a launcher that allows the widgets to show correctly at the default widget size. So I want a 10 x 5 grid size to actually hold more then 3 widgets. Nova Launcher is the same way. Just with Nova you can adjust the margins anymore then the 3 sizes included. With next you can make your own. But still I cant fit the 5 widgets on my screen that I want. Weather, Gmail, Hangout, Photo, Pulse. I want all those in there default widget sizes. I dont understand why making the grid size bigger makes the widgets bigger. In windows or Mac OSX when I make the rez bigger it doesnt make anything else bigger.

Hello all,
I've created a Zooper widget which I would like to share with you all. I was also hoping to create my very first APK to share on Google Play, but I've been experiencing a "failed java.io.filenotfoundexception" error with my Roboto fonts, which meant I can't decompress my zwapk.zip files in Android Studio. Any advice would be gratefully accepted
Anyway, I've created a set of six widgets, inspired by the new Material Design. I do hope you enjoy them.
Please note that you will need Zooper Widget Pro and Media Utilities installed, or the widgets won't work!!!
Contents
The calendar dates display "Today", "Tomorrow", or the dates if neither
"All Day" if it's an all day event, otherwise the time
Indicators will be displayed for new texts, calls and Gmail
Hotlinks for text, calls, Gmail, email, Whatsapp, album art, music controls, calendar icon
1. Blue Widget - a full screen widget with time, date, weather forecast, calendar, battery/alarm indicator, text/call/Gmail and music now playing. (4x4 on smaller screens, 5x4 or 6x4 on larger screens and tablets)
2. Blue Widget Clock - half screen widget with time, date, weather and forecast. (4x2 on smaller screens, 5x2 or 6x2 on larger screens and tablets)
3. Blue Widget Calendar - half screen widget with next 5 calendar events. (4x2 on smaller screens, 5x2 or 6x2 on larger screens and tablets)
4. Blue Widget Status and Music - half screen widget with battery and alarm, calls/texts/Gmail etc, track now playing (4x2 on smaller screens, 5x2 or 6x2 on larger screens and tablets)
5. Blue Widget Music Small - half screen widget with track now playing (4x2 on smaller screens, 5x2 or 6x2 on larger screens and tablets)
6. Blue Widget Music Large - 3/4 screen widget with track now playing (4x4 on smaller screens, 5x4 or 6x4 on larger screens and tablets)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Copy the zw files in the link below into your ZooperWidget/Templates folder, choose the recommended sizes above (this may vary depending on your screens), then load the widget of your choice. If the hotlinks do not work, choose the application in the Widget OnTap actions again and they should work.
Please let me know what you think or if you have any questions!! Enjoy.
