So here's my problem - when I read an e-mail from gmail on my computer, I get a notification from gmail on the phone that I have a new email. I guess when the new mail number goes down, it sends a notification, even though I haven't actually gotten a new email. For instance, if I have 10 unread emails in gmail, and read one of them on a computer, my phone will emit one notification, when the unread count goes from 10 to 9. It's starting to drive me nuts, but I can't find how to fix it.
Anyone else experience this? How can I fix it so that my phone gmail only gives a notification when a new email actually arrives? Not every time the unread count changes?
No responses...? I'm assuming either I wasn't clear or no one else is experiencing this...or that this is the norm and I'm bat****. Either way, I'd appreciate someone with some info to tell me which of these is the reality, cuz if there IS something I can do about it, I would really like to know. Or, if there's nothing I can do about it, to just make myself get over it lol.
Again, briefly: When I read a gmail email on my computer, I get a notification on my phone showing that the unread messages have gone down by one. Is there a setting so that I only get notifications when a NEW EMAIL actually arrives?
I swear I've been playing all around with gmail and can't figure this out.
Im having a problem with it telling me I have 10 emails in the application on phone, but I have to sync a dozen times for it to show me a few of them.

I've got a 6925, and i'm quite annoyed by the e-mail notifications always nagging me. I have 2 e-mail accounts setup (Gmail, and my POP3 work account). I want it to check for new messages as frequently as possible, but I only want it to display a notification if it DOWNLOADED a new message. Currently it displays that I have New messages all the time unless i physically go into my inbox and actually open the e-mail message all the way.
Why is this so annoying? Well a lot of the times I get messages that I just don't open based on the "header" of the message. Yet unless I actually go in and mark it as read, or open it up, when it goes to check for new messages on the server it still thinks it's a NEW message and thus prompts me with a display saying I have new messages. Is there anyway I can have those notifications fire ONLY when it's DOWNLOADED a new message and not keep pestering me saying I have 63 some e-mails that are new and I haven't opened?
Thanks
Hi all,
Am a bit annoyed with the notifications on Mail on my phone. I have it up to notify Mon-Fri 08.30 - 21.30 but when it wants to, it notifies me at, say 2.30 in the morning, then other times it doesnt, has anyone else noticed that it is very erratic?
What alternatives do we have, app-wise, that I can use instead of Mail (whic I like apart from the above problem) that I can set a timetable and days to check for mail (POP3).
Also, is there a way to change he notification for new mail (and new SMS for that case).
Thanks.
This is more of an annoyance and not really a problem but curious to see if anyone has a workaround. I use SMS and EMail notification sounds and they work no problem. SMS comes in and it dings...that's it. Now with email I use a notification sound for incoming mail with my exchange server. New mail comes in, notification sound goes off as you'd expect. The difference being on the email it will continue to notify every 5 minutes until I open mail. I don't need to be reminded every 5 minutes. I don't use gmail or pop3 so I'm not sure if it does it with those as well or if it's Exchange specific. Anyone else get this and/or figured out how to limit it to a single notification?
[UPDATE] Figured it out. Just had to change the Update schedule from 5 minutes to Push mail. Thought I had that set already but apparently not. Now it notifies only once.
Ever since I started linking my Nexus 7 and phone through Tablet SMS, everytime I get a phone call or text message I get the Tablet SMS notification, and also the annoying Talk and Gmail notifications for the calls and texts now which I want to stop because they are flooding my inbox, and for the life of me I cant figure out how, would really appreciate some help on this.

I want to say that's in the settings - SMS Delivery. This bugged me as well and I think that's how I fixed it.
Can't you just create a filter to automatically mark them as read, and move them to a folder?
You likely already found your answer, but I found this thread searching for a solution.
For anyone else out there wondering, if you open the DeskSMS app on the phone, you can simply disable all email/talk push notifications.
Hi,
I've had my Galaxy S5 for just over a week and I noticed that the notifications (email, hangouts) do not update if I read the messages from another device. If, for example, I have a new email and read that email on my computer (or tablet), the notification on the phone will still be there until I read that email on the phone. If i just swipe the notification to make it dissapear, when a new email comes in, it will tell me I have two unread messages eventhough the previous messages have been read (on another device).
Before the S5, I had a Nexus 4. Whenever I read a message on my computer, the notification on the phone would dissapear and messages would be marked as read almost immediately.
I find it really annoying to have the notifications and specially the LED light blinking for messages I already read.
Can anyone please tell me how to have S5 work the same way? All my settings are set to "push".
Thanks!
Check if you have enabled auto sync.
Can you tell me where auto sync is? I only found "activesync" under the exchange settings and it's enabled. I didn't find anything like that for my google account settings.
Thanks

So nobody else has this problem?
