Okay, so I had a thread before about getting EB13 on my phone.
Well, at this point, I don't care about that, I just want my phone to work.
Here's what happened, I tried running the Samsung EB13 flash and it failed (my phone got stuck on a green screen)
Now, it won't boot (stuck on Samsung screen)
So I'm trying to use Odin to flash back to stock, but it gets stuck at <ID:0/005> SetupConnection..
PLEASE tell me this isn't bricked?
If it's not, how can I fix it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: This time Odin froze on the next step, Initialization..
What are you coming from (DK28, DI18, etc) and which stock are u ODIN'ing back to? (Hopefully DI18). Also, check ur USB cables, I find that is a common problem when things don't go as planned. (At least it has been for me.)

I had stock (rooted) DI18 installed, and now I'm just trying to use Odin to flash the stock kernel (since I assume I can use my CWM backup to fix everything else?)
If not, I'll try using a full tarball for DI18 (if you think that's what I should use instead)

I did follow (basically) the same instructions.
By that I mean I wasn't looking at those, but I did the same steps.
Problem is it crashes pretty early on after starting.
Something wrong with the EB13 utility & Odin's connection to my phone.
Very strange.
Starting to freak out though.

Try re-installing the utility in the link I gave you, and try again.
Try ODINing back to DI18 proper, full tar. I also had issues with the EB13 utility and while I didn't brick my phone, maybe if you're having issues it's best to do DI18 then update.zip?
(As long as you can get into download mode, I think it's safe to say you're not bricked..)
Okay, so I used Odin with the EB13 tarball and it started going, but seems to have hung at factoryrfs.rfs
There was a progress bar on my phone, but now the screen is just solid cyan and Odin's progress bar isn't moving.
Any ideas?
Assuming this step just doesn't take a long time.

He said he just tried the kernel and asked whether or not he should do the full DI18 tar.
Which USB cable are you using? If it's the stock cable that came with your Epic, ditch that ****. They suck! Go get a different USB-A male to micro USB-B male plug, such as the Gigaware cable that Radio Shack sells. I can personally attest to the fact that the OEM cable that Samsung/Sprint provide is not very reliable: once I switched to the Radio Shack / Gigaware cable, my flashing problems cleared up.

I'm using a cable I had from having bought a Micro USB charger. I think it's a Palm one.
Currently trying to Odin DI18, but my phone is back to not being recognized.
Maybe both these cables are no good...
Okay, I'm trying the DI18 tarball, and my phone just goes to a solid color screen on a random step (seems to always be zImage or factoryrfs.rfs)
Is this really just 2 bad cables?
Could always try another USB port. I've seen posted in threads time and time again that users having a problem would then change ports and things just worked.

I've tried that as well.
Even tried 2 different computers.
Always ends up with my phone going into a solid color screen...
Why do I get a feeling this is gonna end up being a full brick.
I do have the equipment protection policy on it, so if I just tell them I lost it, any idea if they'd replace it?
Since I assume bringing in a phone with CWM would cause my warranty to be voided.

I think since you were trying to update using the Samsung tool, it would be a covered replacement in the Sprint store. Even if you didn't use the Samsung tool, given the roll out you should still be covered--regardless if you had the insurance or not.
may not be helpful but worth a shot.. i have this issue everytime i odin.. (not exactly what you have but phone is stuck on restarting adb agent or something)
basically i have ms security essentials and windows firewal turned out..somehow .. (i have no clue) .. while they are running odin will wait forever.. the moment i disable both ms sec essentials and windows firewall it would work... not sure if this is the same case but u might want to give it a shot.
Alright, crisis averted.
Seems I got lucky one time and Odin went through and restored DI18 successfully.
Then I applied update.zip and am now happily running EB13
Thanks for your help everyone!
Just a tip for the future: I've found that when I ran the newer cwm and ext4, every time I tried to odin a stock tar, it would fail if I didn't check the re-partition box. Posssibly doing the same may have helped you.

Make sure you flashed to pda and not phone. It took me more than a few attempts to figure that one out. I had the same problems with freezing mid way through. Hope it works out for you, and trust me, if odin can see it, then you can restore it.

What worked for me was the older version of odin, no pit file, pda (not phone) and no boxes checked.
Good luck !

i have tried all the above with no result is there anything else i can do ?
ive used the original odin, only have auto reboot and debug en checkmarked. (f.reset time should be unchecked) Start odin first THEN plug in phone. choose pit, choose PDA. let it run. if it continues to fail, use a different usb port. the one that came with the phone tends not to work half of the time.
I'm about to reset mine with Odin. I will let you know which method works for me. BTW, the samsung USB cable is complete trash. Throw that piece of crap in the garbage. I am using my kindle USB cable for now, but I have one from monoprice and it also works.
Worked for me with my kindle USB cord. I did exactly as newkidd said also. Start odin first THEN plug in phone in download mode. Choose pit, choose PDA, uncheck f.reset time and then click start.
Okay,
There is a growing number of us XDA members on the Vibrant platform who have just bricked out phones. Save for other DEV tools, which I have not used, do not have access, and do not know how to use, for all intensive purposes, this phone is Br'iKTed ! ! !
Here are the series of events
1. flashed the latest Bionix
2. Worked great, some bugs, but for the most part without incident.
3. Flashed new DOW Kernel,
4. worked great for 2 days.
5. then on night 2, the phone was stuck on the DOW Green robot screen
6. could not get into Recovery mode (none of the recovery modes)
7. Phone would not boot
8. ODIN back to stock
9. After Vibrant screen, the phone turns off. No soft keys, Nada!
10. Flashed JI5, Ji6, Eugene's Non Bricking Froyo (ODIN Files)
11. Same result, Turned off after Vibrant
and
12. still cant' get into recovery
I am having problems with the phone starting up and loading what I flashed.
I flashed JI5 Ji6, and Eugene's non bricking Froyo Rom
These 3 are the only ones I was able to find that is ODIN flashable
Why you ask?
I cannot get into Recovery, but I can get into Download mode. I can't get into any recovery at all. NOTHING. This is why ODIN seems to be my only option.
But regardless of any ROM i flash, my phone shuts off right after the Vibrant screen. No splash screen, no loading, no booting. .Nothing. It just shuts off.
I can't charge it either.
i get a Charging bootloop. HOurglass - battery shows up for a bit, then restarts over and over.
So in other words. it's ****ed.
Hope that explains it sufficiently. if you have any more questions or suggestions, Im open man, Im open.
Help me
So I'm not sure how DEVs would like to proceed on this.
TW (I've always loved your roms. Been following you since the first BIONIX 1.8)
Morific (If it's the Kernel, i'd like to know about it)
Thanks for reading guys. I wanted to give everybody a heads up.
I don't know what the problem is, but I do know that the phone does not work.
I'd appreciate some suggestions or anything.
And to inform the community that this problem is out there. I hope there aren't any more bricked phones.

Tried it with/ Without. Using Just the Tar file, using just the base file. I've tried it all.

have you tried to odin to ka6 or ka7? something with a bootloader
not to be that guy, but how does this pertain to development? This sounds to me like an individual case of something going wrong and not an overarching issue with current available software. Just in case I am wrong I am flashing Bionix, and the DOW kernel myself to see if I end up with the same issue. My suggestion is flash back to stock, and exchange your device for a new one from T-Mobile.
I totally understand what your going through. I'm having the exact same problem, the DOW kernel flashed ok but then it didn't want to come off and it totally has my phone stuck on that damn green robot screen.
I soft-bricked my phone once by pulling USB cable immediately after ODIN forced my phone to reboot after flashing. It was the first time I ever ODIN'ed my phone, and thought the reboot (ODIN calls it reset) was the final step of flashing, and unplugged the USB cable. Anyway the phone did not initiate final step of the installation of JFD image, and went into boot loop. You can't imagine how freaked I was. It wouldn't go into recovery mode even if I pressed volume up, down and power combo, because it didn't stop rebooting right after the Vibrant logo. I am not sure if bootloader was not installed correctly, though. But I kept the phone rebooting for a while to see what happens. No luck. Eventually, I followed someone's instruction, and pulled my battery out, plugged USB to my laptop and to my phone, started ODIN, and popped in the battery. The phone immediately restarted into download mode, and I was able to flash the phone again.
My experience may not help you as it appears that you are able to flash ODIN-flashables, at least. But I hope this helps someone who's experiencing similar issues. And I would try downloading a JFD image and verifying MD5 before flashing. It could be bad downloads of the image files.
Try to go to eugenes forum and he has a file to download...it is his unofficial jk2 froyo rom. Don't use the old "froyo that does not brick" Try to flash that in ODIN. I just used it tonight when I got stuck in stock recovery with a MBR Check sum failure. That should get u back to where u can fix ur phone. Also I don't click the repartition button in ODIN just causes problems for me. If u need anything feel free to P.M. me.

Completely reasonable. This pertains to development because if there is an endemic problem with one of our ROMS or KERNELS (not pointing fingers, just pointing out the possibilities that I know of, there could be more), people in our community need to know. Hence, I titled it "PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT"
Thanks. I hear you about Tmobile. I'd rather not have to dump my problem on Tmobile if I can fix it, because I flashed the rom. Despite the fact that Tmobile JFS leaves something to be desired, they did deliver me a working phone. So i'd like to exhaust all possibilities before calling it quits.

Thanks for the heads up. I've gone through this myself many times. And i'm sure your post will help others out there. My problem (as well as many others on here with the same ROM and KERNEL I used) seems to be different and unique. Something that ODIN won't cure.

Yes, tried that too. Same result. Vibrant.. then shut off.
Thanks anyway.
I had actually just had Bionix-v 1.2.1 and the new DoW combo to try out Voodoo Sound. I really loved the sound quality, but battery drain was not adequate as being my daily driver, even though I set it to run at 1ghz and used a sleep profile. After just over 2 days of use, I backed out by ODIN'ing to JFD and I installed Bionix-v 1.2.1 again. Only thing I have noticed so far is GPS not initiating immediately after it's turned on. I would go into GPS Test app, and turn on GPS after the app is started, but I get no satellites for at least 1 min. I used to get a lock within seconds, not minutes. I will try ODIN again tomorrow and see if it fixes. I guess I was lucky enough not to get a bootloop again though.
But I can't see why you and I would have any issues after the Bionix+Dow combo. Wouldn't ODIN just clear everything up? I even repartitioned when flashing, so my guess is that my system, data, datadata, etc., are all reformatted completely? Am I missing something?
I had the same problem. I flashed DoW and then the next day my phone didn't want to turn on. I pulled the battery and restarted it. It didn't want to start up all the way. It got to the vibrant screen and shut off. luckily for me, my replacement phone that I ordered a week ago came in the same day. I sent off my old phone letting samsung/tmo take care of it.
This exact same thing happened to me.
I too had the phoen bricked after flashing the DOW after Bionix 1.2.1
I have been flashing since the G1. This is the first time I've ever bricked a phone.
Hoping to get it fixed this weekend
Yo OP
Coming from a very scary brick my self, (phone wouldnt even turn on, bad dead horse test).
When your using Odin, are you using v1.7, are you using the correct stock JFD tar, when you repartion, are you using the correct pit file. Sounds to me that your partions are screwed, so try the pit approach first. If you phone wont boot at all after this, with odin open go into download mode by holding the vol rockers only, and plug USB in.
Then flash JFD.

I spent over 12 hours working on this when it happened to me yesterday. Tried every tar and pit file and all versions of Odin I could find. There is no way to fix it with Odin. It is BRICKED!
If you have not already done this, I recommend doing this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
Bay Wolf made a nice software for the computer that pretty much shows you a step-by-step instruction on how to flash to stock, reroot, and flash the new ROM of your choice. This program will push you into download mode, clockwork recovery, etc. There is a video on that link that will also show you a step-by-step instruction. Try that out if you haven't, and let us know how it goes.
That program comes with a PIT and TAR file for you to use as well.
Even if you say it is, this is not a Development thread and belongs in one of the other forums. I understand your frustration, however TW did not flash your phone, you did. Coming on here with a "PSA" that their ROM or Kernel loaded itself on your phone and broke it is not the way it should be done. Did you, before posting this, go to the TW irc for help or pm Sombionix or any other TW Dev?
Since you can Odin, Odin to stock 2.1 then connect to KIES mini while in download mode, if you can, and take the OTA.

Nothing would work, but went that approach and happy days.
s1_odin_20100512.pit
and
T959UVJFD.tar
are the only ones you need, and if your good with your flashing, just do a pit first, no pda.
And if your still getting to download mode, ect, and dont have the computer /!\ phone icon on the screen, sounds like a soft brick.

build is SCH-I500.DL30
baseband isS:i500.04 V.DIO1
To use Odin, you need to get into download mode. Turn the phone off, pull the battery, hold the volume down button, plug in the USB cable while continuing to hold the volume down button. Phone should now be in download mode and Odin should pick up the device (assuming you had the drivers installed as well already). When flashing anything via Odin, be sure to use the PDA button.
The issue sounds like you just need a new modem flashed to the phone, or downgrade your ROM to whatever version the baseband is. Personally, if you want to stick with Froyo, you should upgrade to EB01. It doesn't really fix much, but at least it has a modem available.
EDIT: Your issue is the DI01 baseband and DL30 build. I'd say update to EB01. If you want to stick with stock, go with DL09 and update to the EA28 OTA.

Yea, I just rooted a Vibrant the other night. That was no problem compared to this...
I dont think you guys are following me. I got this phone last night already rooted and running DL30. I DID NOT FLASH IT MYSELF. I cant get into cwm to do anything and odin gives me the message i posted a few posts ago. I have the drivers installed.
When your phone is plugged in and Odin is open, does the ID:COM field show anything? It should turn yellow and display the COM port your phone is connected to. Also, you are clicking the PDA button and selecting the file you want to flash, correct? Your process should follow this: http://goo.gl/TEv2T and if you want to flash a full image (ROM/Kernel/Modem) it would take the place of the modem tar file, but it would still go under the PDA button.
re what imnuts posted (I was drafting a similar post when his popped up)...
I have experienced issues with the usb port not working correctly. If the Odin ID:COM field is blank, you might have a usb problem.
Does the phone allow you to mount the sdcard using the Samsung drivers? If not, odin won't work either.

I think it is my drivers. They worked fine the other night. I just uninstalled and tried some posted in a thread here and it still doesnt work. It says problem with gadget serial.
I believe that all the SGS phones require different drivers to work properly. Download the most recent drivers from Samsung from the I500 download page
EDIT: Download

Are you following this when trying flash? http://goo.gl/TEv2T What error is it giving you, and at what step in the process? Also, the screens should look similar as far as how the boxes look while flashing.

Its working now. I rebooted my computer and all is well. I really appreciate your help with this. We need more guys like you here at XDA. I have almost 800 posts at droid forums and dont come over here much because your expected to just know everything here. Thanks again.

I'll second that. I was skimming through this thread to see if anybody actually helped you with your issue rather than just saying "google it, n00b" and other such bs like that.
People are right, there *is* a lot of information to be found in these forums, but some people have lives and don't follow every single post in every single thread. I miss my days in iAudiophile.net where when a member had a legitimate question, the least we could do was to post a link to another thread for them to follow.
...So which EB01 rom did you upgrade to?
Hey everyone,
trying to put the EB13 stuff on my phone, and I'm stuck at the ODIN part.
I've used ODIN before and never had any problems...
now everytime I try to upload anything to the phone, I'm failing right after param.lfs. The error I get is complete(write) operation failed
I tried putting it in the phone section instead of PDA, but I'm getting the same error.
like I said, i've used it before so I doubt it's driver related?
any help?
I also tried another USB port (com 6, and com 8)
i was experiencing this (still am)
i ended up having to taking it in to sprint store they put EB13 on it for me w/o saying anything lol but most likely cable as everyone has said stock cable is bad quality
I tried 2 diff cables and 2 diff computers now...
Still getting the same failure...
Try redownloading the tar file somewhere else.

None of them work, including all the older ones I had that were working last time I used
Yep exact same boat as me
make sure you cant boot into recovery/get past sammy screen
delete everything off of your sd card then take it into sprint they'll fix it for you.
I might have to take it back to bestbuy if anything.
I just tried again (without the battery in the phone this time) and it went past and I'm stuck at like 99%...
I'm trying to upload the EB13 ODIN, and it's stuck at modem.bin, which is like the last thign it installs... I"m pretty pissed...
had the exact same problem, with ODIN and with the Official Samsung flasher from their site.
tried different cables etc... nothing
Ended up removing all the drivers, reinstalling the drivers
Moved cable to one of the rear ports on the computer and boom worked the first time.
Since then I've seen several people who had problems with their front ports but worked from the rear ports.
now I'm stuck at the modem... I can't install past modem.bin which is the last thing.
the phone actually booted up, but no signal obviously...

Try installing the modem separately.
Another less realized problem is power. I always use a computer with network grade power. If you have ever monitored the utility power you would know why your computer does odd things.

Something I've tried before when getting problems using is odin is taking the ".md5" off the end of the "SPH-D700-EB13-8Gb-REL.tar.md5." Placed it in PDA without the .md5 and then put the PIT file in. I did that with the DK28 release though, so not sure if there would be a difference with EB13. However, the EB13 tar with CWM3 and root built in and the PIT worked fine for me first time through.
taking out the battery and letting it run off the USB did the trick. very weird
I love you razorseal.
I couldnt get passed param.ifs for hours, taking the battery out worked for me too~
I have this problem constantly.
What I do is remove the cable and battery for approximately 30 seconds and hold the power buttons to remove any leftover charge from capacitors. Reinsert the battery and put the phone back in download mode and plug it up and try again. That usually brings up my success rate from like 20 to 80 percent.

First off - i've searched all day & stayed in IRC for over 40 mins without a hit so i'm looking for a little help.
I was upgrading to Froyo from a "stock" Continuum today using Odin. Everything seemed smooth - got a pass message & unplugged the usb cable. Now nothing (won't power up, etc) & i can't get into download mode.
I've tried all of the button/cable/battery combos that i could find. I have tried to flash a recovery using Odin & it gets stuck with the message "setup connection" in the message box.
I know my pc is seeing the phone (though you can't access the SD card or memory) & Odin is seeing it (yellow box) but i can't seem to get past this point or go back to the original.
Any help is appreciated.

Try pulling your battery and holding down the power button for a slow count of 20 to see if download mode comes back. After that, you should be good to flash stock ec07 and then recovery kernel. After that, whichever rom you choose. If that doesn't work, I'll try to get into IRC at some point tomorrow (today).
That didn't work either - screen is still blank & it won't progress in Odin. I'll jump back into IRC if anyone has any other ideas - thanks.
i dont know what to tell you continuums are very hard to brick and if u cant get into download mode then theres not that much u can do im afraid I was talking to adam outler about trying the unbrickable mod on a continuum but he does not have one to test. now he got the fascinate to work so id pm him and see if he'll let you send your phone to him
Hey TXwolf - i had to run out for a while - saw where you got on IRC earlier. Verizon is sending me a new phone, so i guess i'll just give up on saving this one...

I too manged to brick my phone to point to where I can not even get to the download screen. I have the same problem as OP, Odin will not move past SetupConnection when trying to recover following this post.
androidforums.com/continuum-all-things-root/457453-oh-crap-i-screwed-my-phone-up-recovery-guide.html
Any further help would much appreciated seeing as how I am past my warranty period and do not really want to buy a new phone.

If this is frenzifun, from android forums, this is what happened to him
He started a flash of stock ec07 with pit and repartition checked. It flashed params.ifs, boot, SBL and recovery. Then it removed itself (frenzifun, if you could post the flash log for others it might help them) from there, it wont go into dl mode. I was trying to help him in irc, but I'm out of options, other than making a jig. The only thing I can think of, that's causing this is the somehow the button mappings for vol down got erased. I'm not sure how it would, though. Especially since it should be a hardware mapping, independent of any software. And if that is the case, I don't know how to fix it.
If this isn't frenzifun, disregard everything I just said.

I am not sure who frenzifun is but this still doesn't sound good for my situation. What I can tell you is I was following directions to try an update my phone from 2.1 to 2.2 using Odin. I believed the process was completed, not realizing it was not and unplugged my phone from the computer. From that point on I have not been able to turn the phone on or get the the download screen. Here is the odd thing if I plug the phone into my computer Windows recognizes and Odin can see a COM port but I still can not get past the setup connection when following the directions to try a recover my phone.

Txwolf I do appreciate the offer and I am in PST and that would 630 my time but I need to take of a few things after and I am not sure I could make that time. One of my places to go is my local Verizon store to see if there anything they can do.

Unlessvyou have a hookup, i doubt verizon will help. What I was gonnavtry o garuntees here) is
1. Try flashing in odin with pit, but leavevrepartition unchecked. That most likely won't work, but it's a shot.
2. Use the heimdall version ofvthe guide. I think that may have a better chance. I'll hang out in irc for a while tonight. Just in case.

Its all good. Try the suggestions I gave you, when you have time. If they don't work, I'll have some down time tomorrow or sunday. Just let me know, and we'll see if we can make the schedules match
