Thanks for this good friend that let everyone know (bmvik) I called At&t and they had to set up a featured code completely different than any other phone available right now excluding the Atrix. I was getting a 300 to 500 upload on my phone and sometimes even 50 to 60kbps. As soon as I finished talking to the Rep I was getting more than 1.1Mb ALWAYS (I made 30 tests) So please! Everyone! Call At&t and get this fix! This is why the phone is capped! Because none of the Reps and online orders tell you to do this!

I know this is the Atrix forum but I got my Inspire in the store and I watched the rep put the correct code on my account and it was still capped. ATT even come out and said the Inspire didn't have HSUPA... It wasn't until I rooted and flashed a different ROM that I got full upload speeds. I think what made the biggest difference was using a different APN..but I'm still checking that out some more.

No, in the picture you have attached the upload is only 0.23Mbps...i.e. 230kbps which is super slow and is not HSUPA.

Yeah. I was. Thanks.
I called AT&T, and if by feature code you mean they want to charge you $45 a month for the teathering plan, ya that's what they told me I had to do to get correct speeds.
No thanks. I'm keeping $30 Smartphone Personal Unlimited.
I'de like to know for real what can fix the upload speed. Why would I want to pay more for something an iPhone 4 gets gratuitously?

WTF are you talking about? :S I didn't had to pay anything. Smartphones and 4G phones have different settings in the Antennas, they must be reprogrammed and put the correct code in it. The Rep should have asked you for your EMEI. At least mine knew what it was doing.

WTF I'm talking is what the guy told me. I'm under no illusions that he knew what he was talking about.
I activated the phone on the website with the IMEI and the Sim Number. Is that sufficient?
I'm afraid if I call back I'll get some other stupid story.
I don't want to loose the $30 unlimited data but this guy was trying to tell me I'de need the $45 (tether) plan to get the full speed. Stupid I know.

feature code is HSDPPB ..... its unlimited data for HSPA + devices
the prior feature code is still in the system, it is 30/mo and unlimited, its just not for HSPA+ devices. If you had that unlimited before, you can be grandfathered in, but to get provisioned correctly for higher speeds you need to have new HSDPPB in place of older feature, I cant recall the actual code letters.
So I have the $25 2GB plan. Will I be able to get this? Or is this for only people who have had the unlimited?
Thanks again.

There are 2GB plans and 4GB plans and unlimited. But you can only get new unlimited feature code on your account if you already have unlimited smart phone data feature .

The rep was misinformed. There is such a thing as higher upload speed if u have a laptop dock, and it requires tethering plan. but it has nothing to do with that u need to have new feature on your account for your new 4G device to function properly on the network.

Let me get this straight, so upload speed is limited if you don't have teathering?
Seems to be what I'm seeing.... I set up the "phone" APN on my nexus one... and sure enough, it limited it to just about 384k... with the wap.cingular APN I could reguarly hit 1.6Mbit upload.
This is interesting indeed. And evil. iPhone users don't have to pay extra for upload speed.
And I did get the correct feature code added to my account. Upload is crap.

The "phone" apn shouldn't limit your upload as that is what the iphone4 uses for its HSUPA enabled connect. I did just try that APN on the N1 I have and i got 1.1mbit on the upload. I will note that i currently have the iphone unlimited data package on my line though.
Somebody please make an APN without the proxy settings and post some speedtests. This has to be an untouched (unrooted) device that is currently not getting HSUPA speeds too btw.
My "phone" APN on the Atrix has no proxy set. It is getting about .15 to .20 upload.
When I put the sim into the Nexus One, with the "phone" apn I see the same upload.
Yesterday before I was reprovisioned, using the "wap.cingular" apn with no proxy I could regularly hit over 1mbit.
AT&T is throttling. Maybe not for one person, but they are in my market, Salt Lake City.
I just tested the 2 god damn iPhone 4's on our account yesterday and they around 1mbit up consistently.
-James
by the way, downloads are consitently over 2mbit.

When I was an accountant in Belgium, the new CEO brought his iPhone over from the states and put it on our Proximus business account. Let's just say that the use of 1 iPhone for less than a month doubled our phone bill for an account that had 70+ phones on it.

I REALLY didn't want to get pulled into this discussion again, but I don't want to see forum members get screwed either. I've been going back and forth quoting the EVO-specific TOS with kris54241 on exactly this subject over here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755458
The 300mb roaming cap does come into play for the Evo, and Sprint has recently made it a priority to begin cracking down on those users (weather those 300mb roaming were a majority of usage or not). Some people have begun to see warnings in their bills.

I don't believe they charge for over 300MB, but they do warn you. In the TOS & contract you signed in the beginning it says if a certain percent (can't remember) of your minutes are roaming or if more than 300MB data is roaming they have the right to terminate your service.
The actual terms of service for phones states that a "majority of your minutes or data usage may not occur off the Sprint network."
That means that technically, you could talk for 61 minutes - 30 on Sprint, 31 Roaming - and Sprint can term the service.
Also, you can download 3kb of data (yes, 3kb), 1kb on Sprint, 2kb Roaming - and Sprint can terminate your service.
Now, chances are you wouldn't even get looked at until you hit a GB or more of anything or a ton of minutes, but the way it's written, it's a simple majority... Pretty cool huh?

To be fair, T-Mobile isnt charging for tethering (from what I know) and it still has unlimited access whereas other companies charge you more for going over or simply has a hard cap
Just to add to this post.
Tmobile changed their "unlimited" to a soft cap at 5GB last fall.
But people like me on the old grandfathered 19.99 BIS plan (yes my BIS works perfectly with my Samsung Vibrant). Aren't grandfathered plans like mine; isn't the soft cap on old users like me at 10GB? instead of 5GB.
I never even reach 1GB on a a good month even with tethering on the Vibrant. But I don't tether that much.

Is not actually unlimited, because when they throttle you pages hardly ever load, the phone is good just for making call and sending text, other than that is completely worthless.
They actually throttle you so hard to 56KB because it is actually the best workaround to actually stop you from using your data, without actually and completely stopping your connection, and they can still claim that it still is unlimited.
Now they are advertising here the Vibrant 4G,with bells and whistles as a 4G phone capable of blazing fast 21MB connection on their 4G HSPA+ network all in very big letters.
And when you read the incredibly small and almost unreadable letters it say HSPA+ 4G no available in Puerto Rico..
And some how their adds are not misleading.

I totally agree. I first used to get a text saying I hit the 10gb limit then it changed to 5gb. I'm on the g1 plan. Tethering is also not the only culprit. I download mixtapes (for promotional use only) to the phone. I stream. Some of the newer games have some big files to download. Why use wifi I paid for unlimited no quotes web.

They did that to me once. Throttled me less than 24 hours until my cycle renewed. Like less than a day matters, apparently it does to them though. Tmo FTW!
Edited, when throttled, it was my experience that turning on edge only data was much faster than the throttled 3g. It seems they don't throttle the edge side, just the 3g data.

Be ware....It's not prepaid. If you run out of minutes they charge you like 90 dollars. Read the fine print. I had 30 dollars worth of data left I didn't even use switched to tmobile thinking prepaid is prepaid and they sent me a bill for 90 cancelation fee. Didn't even use my 30 worth of paid for data
No, it's NOT just TONS of Data. It's also minutes. 100 minutes? Yeah, I don't think so. This plan isn't that great. If it meets your needs fine, but don't go talking down to others JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T AGREE WITH YOU.

I am sick of not having internet access in some places and as I won't ever be using voice or giving out that number it is just perfect and a deal!
Plus no f---ing contract.
Can someone confirm this plans now works fine and it is not a fiasco it was right after the release? I have HD2 Tmobile US and wonder if it will work on my phone?
I barely use my phone for talking and never over 100mins - data is pretty much what I use for the most of the time and this plan seems like a winner...
What else should we know about this plan?

Check HoFo. I haven't found much useful information here on XDA.
Of note, I have found no problems with the plan thus far (have only used it for 1 month)
hey everyone. so apparently mobile to mobile doesnt apply to monthly 4g plans. i never read this anywhere and i tried to do as much research as i could before i tired to get on this plan. but now, after 1 day of ussage, im out of minutes.
if you guys have any specific questions, post them, and ill try to answer them
Fact: I found that I had to buy a $30 t-mo phone at walmart to get this plan, and after activation, I moved the sim to a nicer device (bought a nearly unused lg g2x for cheap). I don't talk on the phone, google voice when I do (voice messages conveniently converted to text) and never give out my t-mo phone #.
History: I have been using boost for a couple years and was happy with their service/plan, but even the rather nice samy prevail (thank you ShabbyPenguin!!) was feeling a bit limited (despite root and link2sd). Was about to try Hoarks CM7 on it. I did not feel like trying to get a regular sprint phone to work on boost either.
Review: Signal strength not as good at home, but I use wifi here anyways. I get about 2Mb data over cell here tho, so not too bad. Phone is a kickass upgrade (CWM, CM7 nightly thanks to XDA forums tutorials!) and I like that I can use my sim in many other devices!
Expect to pay $30 for a phone and $30 for plan. Web activation of phone worked. Be sure to use THE AGENT CODE on the phone box! I bought the $30 card but using the scratch and dust number did not validate online , I called tmobile number and entered it there and it validated (whew!).
hope that sheds some light...

Is the agent code unique? If not, can you share it?
I just ordered the SIM on T-Mobile's website (ended up getting it as an addition to my postpaid plan for my NS which was sitting unused). I followed the activation steps in the booklet that came with the SIM. No agent code needed and I paid $5.34 for the SIM.
NOTE: This only works if you already have a compatible phone with AWS bands. I don't know about activating a newly bought phone on this plan.
Wasn't me!! I didn't do it!
I'm moving back to DC this summer (from Beijing) and I want to get on this plan. But I lost my phone the other day and need something for the next 3 months.
Q: Is there any Android/ICS international phone I can buy that can be hacked to work with Tmobile HSPA+? I'd say the HTC One S would be perfect for me, but I don't think you can get the one with TMobile 1700 CDMA band.

Is the Google's Galaxy Nexus an "international" phone? That may be an option.
Considering changing to this plan...
Has anybody tried tethering on this plan? Also, any non-overage related throttling to report?

Generally, no. Some hacking has been done on AT&T-branded phones (e.g. Galaxy Note) to get them to work with T-Mobile's 3G. However, most phones are incapable of this. Saying 1700 band is a bit misleading - as there are a couple 1700MHz bands that are not AWS (i.e. T-Mobile USA).
So far, all of the Nexus phones (GSM versions, excluding "a" variants which support AT&T's 3G) work with the AWS band. A few others like the Sensation and Evo 3D come to mind.
Your options will be limited because the AWS band is fairly unpopular. Most manufacturers don't bother with it as it's used only on the less-popular networks of the U.S. and Canada - nowhere else.
Hi Guys, this is my first post.
I am relocating to N.Y. from Europe for work and i am bringing my Galaxy Note with me of course.
I was not aware of the situation in U.S. with phone carriers and I am only beginning to grasp the things you have to suffer.
Could you please recommend me a plan. I have already contacted sprint and they refused to accept my cell phone. I am currently thinking of getting boost mobile unlimited but i can't find out if my phone is fully compatible with their service.
I have no credit history in U.S.. I would like at least 200' 100sms and a few GBs of data. Some minutes for calling landlines in Europe would also be great.
I would realy appreciate your help, feeling kind of lost in the open sea.
Thanks in advance (if the list is complete it could be a nice sticky)

Your Note will only give you 3G on AT&T or AT&T MVNOs. You will only get Edge at best on TMo, and your phone won't work at all on Verizon or Sprint!

Dave

Get the 450 min package
http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/plans/data-plans.jsp
Get the 2gb package. And unlimited messaging.
The phone works great on AT&T with some pretty good speeds.
As foxmeister said ur only option to use full data is with ATT.
The best thing here is to get a prepaid 50 $ unlimited plan. It comes with unlimited everything. Including data.
However if u have a smart phone then u need another data plan. However ATT is never going to know u have a smartphone since the imei of european phones is not their list.
Many people here are using non smartphone data plan with note with no issues.
However if u want a contract, then again get an iphone 4gs with att and sell the phone and use ur phone with that plan.
Since u dont have a credit history here, ATT will ask u to put in a 1000$ deposit, which they will refund u at the end of the 1st year.

I thought I saw in another thread some people complaining about having been found out. Was that about U.S. IMEIs or European ones?
When I go to the AT&T shop must I carry my phone with me to show it before they give me the unlimited plan?
Just don't expect much with AT&T in NY, they kinda suck. Lots of dead zones and dropped calls. I have an unlimited data plan with them but on Friday they told me that since I'm in the top 5% of data users they're going to slow down my connection.

I am sure they will catch you if u use too much data.. may be like over 10gb every month.
U dont have to carry the phone with u.
Good thing about prepaid is that u can always stop using it without loosing much money.
I would consider prepaid as a temporary measure before u understand the coverage and stuff like that..
I think walmart has a plan .. again 50$ unlimited with no carrier specifcation.
This was discussed somewhere in Gnote forum too..

That's standard HSPA data speeds. You'll see the DL speed go up to 11mb some nights depending on your area.
You don't have to change anything

I average about 3GB's a month and my high was 6.4GB in Oct.
I am on wifi most of the time and I don't use a ton of talk minutes, so I am using an AT&T GoPhone smartphone plan, $25.00/month for 500MB of data, $0.10 per talk minute.

I'm in NYC. Live downtown work in midtown. I have dropped calls all the time and need to reboot my iphone a couple of times a day. I also spend a lot of time upstate (Catskills) and have little to no service up there with AT&T. And they've told me they have no plans to add cell towers.
Hey guys thanks for all the tips. I have been using AT&T gophone unlimited for 10 days. I don't do heavy internet usage but i can say that the data network is speedy and stable in Manhattan. I am not so satisfied with voice call quality and I have some dropped calls or phone takes for ages to connect.
Overall thanks for the help. AT&T worked out of the box and I almost make full use of the device. A strange difference from Europe is that in US data actually works better than voice.

I know that a few of you are also using your Notes as an AT&T GoPhone, and I'm curious about the speeds you're getting. I'm in the Sacramento area, and I only get about 0.8 to 2.0 mbps (download).
Is this around what you guys are getting?
Take care, guys.

Is that actually unlimited or just advertised that way?
I am on the straighttalk 45 per month "unlimited" and theirs is advertised unlimited but in reality they shut you off if you go over around 2 GB per month; also some undefined daily limit. Other than that GREAT to be off AT&T. Wait - I AM on AT&T network, just not paying the same as I used to.

I don't know the answer to that. I'm brand new to AT&T and haven't even finished my first month of service with them. All that I know about GoPhone and AT&T I learned here and on AC.
So far I haven't seen any throttling. That said, my data usage has been limited to the phone and a couple of tethering sessions. I don't use it as a replacement for home internet and use WiFi whenever possible so hopefully I'll stay off their radar.
A postpaid AT&T account to accomplish the same thing w/ 2GB of data (enough for me) is a good bit more expensive. As it is, I'm paying just a little more than I did on Sprint but it's easier to justify at this price than at the postpaid price and I'm not left paying for a subsidy that I didn't use.

Didn't give them an IMEI at all. In fact, they never asked for one. Heck, I didn't even have the phone with me at the time...
Data speeds are mediocre, but I'm not sure if that's because of my Note or because of AT&T's spotty coverage. (I'm getting in the range of 0.8 - 2.5 Mbps) I don't mind though, since I primarily use wi-fi. I just needed some coverage for when I'm on the go, and it does the trick.

i got a sim only from att store , paid my $50 last week. Yesterday i finally got a note and its the first tim using the sim. I can not get data to work at all. searched high and low used every apn setting i could find the closest i got was using:
wap.cingular
proxy: wireless.cingular.com
but it brings me to a page shown in attached photo."to use data services you must have a data package"
if i use any othe apn settings i get the H+ but nothing loads at all as far as web pages or anything that uses data gets a network error. I guess they have this imei in their database??
Should i backup my EFS file and delete it off the phone? Goto the store get a gophone get mobile web working again, swap sims?
very frustrating. and realistically i want to see if at&t has improved at all in NYC before paying verizon etf's and coming back (i prefer gsm).
Thanks!
