I have been a member of this website for quite a few years and just wanted to leave a note for all the devs in the epic community. Those of us who have been around for quite some time can and always will be patient waiting for finished products. I started in the htc touch forums and there were issues with NFSfan and some of his roms. THANK YOU DEVS OF THE EPIC!! Hopefully I can donate a beer to each one of you and especially WHOSDAMAN for all his great work in the past. I just wanted to say thank you with no complaints!
Welcome
I appreciate all the devs for there time and dedication for giving us some great roms. Thanks!

I joined in February when I got my Rhodium and wanted to break it loose and begin flashing.
The drama as of late in THIS forum is pointless drivel IMO.
Thanks to noobnl, Firon, whosdaman, evilpeople, mammon88, schizopunk, ACS syndicate and everyone else that's not fresh in my memory (lmfao.. sorry) for all the work you have all done thus far.
Too much 'entitlement' and bickering and not enough thanks for what we currently have.
"Thanks for what we currently have, and for what we'll have tomorrow, or next thursday, or whenever it comes"
Now put that out or pass it my way
YAR
Thanks Devs!
I have gotten into Android and Samsung mobile development soley because of the progress made here and around the community for the devices that I own. I have been programming here and there for years, writing code for fun, but for a novice programmer looking to jump right into the field.. the unofficial support provided by everyones ideas and solutions has made it a great transition.
I for one think that this kind of stuff is a blast, its my FAVORITE hobby. My line of work fortunately provides me with free time during my work day, and at home I can do more collaborative work. I would love to add some hours of freelancing to the projects.
Right now other priorities and holidays will keep me hibernating and tinkering alone, but I definately look forward to joining the community as an active member at the end of this year
+1 love u devs

Yes, thank you devs! Drama or not, I still appreciate the work you do. My Epic runs so much better because of you all.
Just wanted to say thank you to all the dev's, particularly team whiskey, team douche, eugene, ryanza, and clockworkrecovery devs.
I had, and hacked the g1 to death thanks to the unlockr.com, and cyanogen's ish till I got the vibrant.
I am glad that the tmobile android fans have stuck with it, and made my phone better, and feel sorry for some other sgs phone owners that don't have the backing of such a great group of, much smarter than I, developers. You make the phone bearable and much more fun. A phone I like to show off. A phone that has made some of my friends ask me how can I do that.
A phone that isn't what was meant, but is better for it.
And a phone that can use it's gps.
Anyway. I don't develop, I ride on your coat-tails and thank you for all that you do. I have not donated, because I am still a bit too poor at the moment, but know that if I could, I would, and when I can, I will.
Thanks guys. keep up the good work!
I would like to extend on this and offer my appreciation for the development on the android front.
I do think even if no monetary reward is given to a developer the words of appreciation for someone's work go beyond. The success of open source development is a substential proof of this.

I was reading punkkaos's twitter and noticed that he had CM6.2 already running. He was just debugging.
Anyways, thank you ivory cruncher for your donation to him.
I would also like the non devs to be more thankful as the devs have no obligation to you. If you donate, that is what it is a donation... When you request, be appreciative and thankful for their work. Jt, bird, and others has put some serious work into this phone. Be thankful instead of the crazy attitude and sense of obligation. Otherwise, you can develop your own rom...
Anyways, thanks to ivorycruncher.

the "right of entitlement" attitude of some people is ridiculous.

I completely agree. Thanks a ton to Ivorycruncher.. you guys that had an eris like me, you will know the sorts of things we have to look forward to with punk.kaos.. I love our devs already, and now that punk.kaos is here, we're really beginning to gain momentum on the fascinate. As racer has already pointed out, kaos already has cm6 booting, and everybody is working on gb.. I think we really have some awesome stuff coming to look forward to.
And beyond that, thanks a bunch to the other devs like jt1134 and birdman and nemesis2all's that are always working to make our phone better. Without you guys, our phone would suck!

Aw, shucks.....
Yeah, it was kind of a big chunk of change, but I really wanted to have Kaos give us a hand. After seeing what he did with the Eris, I couldn't wait to see what he could do with a high-powered phone like the Fascinate.
And quite frankly I was getting tired of seeing all the people who whine and complain about not having any fancy ROMs, and also the crazy ideas people come up with to supposedly help accelerate the process. I saw the "X prize" idea being presented a couple different times, and lots of people were like "yeah, I'll donate," and then it went nowhere.
That is simply the wrong way to do it, because you're giving your money to an unknown third party that (no offense) can't be trusted, and sorry, but without the money in hand to buy the phones to dev on to begin with, it kind of defeats the purpose. The devs will dev for the heck of it, as long as they have the hardware in hand (though donations are always welcome), so the idea of an incentive to get them to dev just seems wrong to me.
I decided to go the other direction and instead of donating for the work after the fact, or to some crazy cash prize incentive, I coughed up the cash to actually put the hardware in his hands. And yeah, we now have a CyanogenMod ROM getting what appears to be dangerously close to a V1 release, with a GB ROM in the works too. What stuns me is the fact that Kaos has had the phone in hand for less than a week, and has already gotten this far.
I'm actually now thinking that going forward, I'm going to start figuring the cost of a dev phone into any new phone I buy, so I can toss one over to Kaos. However, the Fascinate hardware is plenty good enough for me for now, so once I get some decent software from Kaos, I'm probably gonna keep this phone for a couple years.
Thanks, ivorycruncher! You are a gentleman and a scholar!
jv
Big thanks ivorycruncher!
I would also like to say that when kaos/birdman/jt start releasing some Froyo or GB ROMs, I expect to see some healthy donations from you guys too, since their work is worth far more than what that phone cost me.
Oh, and btw, you can call me ivory.
I usually have nothing to say do to the fact that there are plenty of posts that have covered all the questions and issues I've had with my SF. The fact that ivorycruncher did everybody a huge favor and got punkkaos involved with the development with this phone is truly awesome. Thank you ivorycruncher. Thank you as well to all the fantastic developers who give the time and effort they do to make this a really fun device to own. You geniuses have given me a great escape from the monotony of every day life.
Hey thanks for taking the leap of faith ivorycruncher! Also thanks racerxfd for bringing that to the board.
Thank you Ivory! You really do make it worth having this phone! So do all the other Devs that work on roms and theme's for us. I would like to get into theming and other programing so that one day I can contribute as well!
Cheers!
Haha....I was just looking for ivory's last post so that I could thank him for donating the fascinate and came across this thread, perfect! Thanks ivory, we are all in your debt.
Cheers
Thanks a lot Ivorycruncher !!! All Hail THE DEV : Kaos !!
Thanks so much for moving this pda forward.
Now that we have cm6 and gb roms on the radar more dev's will come!!
Move dev's means more fascinate features.
Thanks for giving us just a little hope for the fascinate.

Yeah have to say thank you Ivory. Really awesome what you did for the whole community.
Actually I agree that people have a sense of entitlement. I expect jt1134 to get naked and dance on me....will it happen? Prolly if he knew how sect I was! Lol jkjkjkjk jt. Alot of people don't know how much time has been spent behind the scenes and in irc coming up with the nods we have. And I have personally spoke with jt, adryn, bird all (except for bird not as much) for extensive periods of time and they work on this shot as much as google themselves. So be thankful. Without them your phone would still blow

After alot of the negative posting I had seen for awhile I stopped coming in here alot.
Been working on a very minimal ROM similar to SonofSkywalker's builds. Sadly its on temporary hold until I get some RL things taken care of.
Hoping to have it more AOSP than I have it now on the bench. But with our current devs and now punk on board my nubbish skills may not cut it.
Thanks Ivory for getting punk on board. Thanks to all the devs pouring their heart into the phone.

T-Mobile was offering a web special on a free G2 for activating a new line. Even with Sprint's 2-year contract renewal, the Evo Shift 4G and Nexus S 4G cost $150 and $200, respectively. Also, 4.3" devices like the EVO 3D are of no interest to me. It was cheaper for me to cough up the early termination fee. My G2 should arrive on Monday.
Before I leave, I want to thank everyone who has positively contributed to my Android experience with the Hero. This development community continues to exceeded my expectations... I still find it hard to believe we're all content with running an Android with 1st generation hardware, and we have great devs to thank for that. Even after the legendary devs like toastcfh, nfinitefx45, and others have left, we have new great devs who filled in. And of course, thanks to all the regulars who keep this forum alive and provide a supportive environment (you know who you are). Although I'm not as talkative and dedicated as some of you, I just hope I've been able contribute my share of helping and support as well
you will be missed sir.. and i dont blame you thats a pretty good deal.. im too stuck on sprint to leave, they have been too good to me over the years.. but have often said that if i left i would go t-mo for some of their devices.. so God speed my friend, im sure we will see you floating around here somewhere..
A man it was a blast having you apart of the hero community. Thanks for all the knowledge and time you put into the hero forums. Take care and enjoy your new phone. Have a good one.
#Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
Thanks for the kind words everyone I'll probably still be checking up on the never ending progress that is aospCmod and the revived 2.6.35 kernel
Peace c00ller. Enjoy your new phone. It was fun
Cooller,
Thanks for the help that you have given to many. I, as many others I'm sure- and as you can see, appreciate what you have brought to the hero threads. I moved from Verizon to Sprint for the $ reason's as well and for me, it was a good move. I got my 1st android phone (our Hero's) and I found XDA. It has been a great experience (learning, fun, and a great way to kill some time) and you have been a part of making it so.
Good luck and happy flashing. I know that whatever phone you are using, you will still be apart of this great community on XDA and the jewels that are made and found here.
I think I feel a tear coming on. No, it was just gas.
Happy Flashing!
DP (I should have gone with DogPoop instead since I'm not drunk and not a pilot...today anyway).
Hey Eugene said he wouldn't mind getting a vibrant if the community donated but he said he's scared of the problems that might come. Like people demanding updates and such. But if you changed the cm7 donation thread to Eugene and put what Eugene don't want to happen some might understand and obey his wishes.

Hey Vibrant community.
Remember Eugene? That awesome guy who's helped make what our Vibrants are today. He's willing to develop for us again and bring us more of his awesome stuff. Maybe even an awesome, stable ICS. As you may have noticed, he's been helping around, but he's using his wife's phone. His wife doesn't like that too much. He's willing to take a Vibrant from the community if they're willing to give it.
Before you post any bull or a 'yes! awesome!' do know that Eugene in no way needs to give out ETAs or post daily, he has a life, just like everyone of us, he does this because he likes it, not because he has to.
If you guys are willing to support him, he's willing to support us.
What do you guys say?
Vibrant for Eugene! Let's go!
if you have nothing positive to say, or dont want to donate, please dont post here.
im a broke college freshman but im willing to donate $10 towards a device for CM crew.
cheers
Wasn't this fundraiser done before?

I don't care what they do with the money we donate. They can buy a device or pizza or beer or hookers, whatever they want.
I just want the Cyanogenmod team to know that the Vibrant community fully supports them and hopes that our device can stay in the CM family.
I'm willing to put in $20.
$10 towards a device for atinm too, but only if he states that he actually wants to continue work on it if we get him a device.
Did'nt he say he was sick of the vibrant?

This is a waste of time you guy's. we have plenty of talented dev's to rely on one specific team. The longer everyone continues to feed into the man saying he is "Sick" and has "given up," the "Bigger" these men's head's grow. Some one will either port the latest cm9 once it is released for i9000 or we simply must move on. (it's called evolution) Samsung is the one to officially blame for there lack of device support. I refuse to have to bribe someone to keep their loyalty. I know there will be CM9 with or without the help of Hacksung. This wasn't meant to troll or offend.
i hope this keeps the wheels turning, but i doubt it will. the only reason i say that is because i find it extreme difficult to believe that the CM team (the largest, most popular, most skilled, most coveted Android development team) doesnt have enough money from donations to buy a cheap used vibrant on ebay. i also find it very hard to believe that none of them (or even a dev loosely associated with them) does not have T-Mobile.
IMO, i think that was atinm's polite way of saying fck the vibrant. im not faulting him in any way, im sure it was a calculated decision.
i just want people to think before giving their money away as a result of frustration/impatience.
good luck.

Whats the point of this? If CM7 is any indication, it will probably take about 4-5 months for a stable release even if they do support CM9 for the vibrant. By that time most of us who are on a two year plan for the vibrant is only a few months away from a new phone upgrade with the next release of android.
Chances are any money you donate will go to the next phone that are coming out to get them further and further away from the vibrant.

i am not against donating to devs in any way. however i AM against people blindly throwing their money around, when there is absolutely no indication that their hopes will be fulfilled.
sometimes devs make it clear that donations just go into one big pot and are considered charity, or a thank you. on the other hand, some devs setup serperate paypal accounts for donations to a specific need.
in this particular case, the dev has clearly stated that he has less than no intentions of pursuing further development on this device, yet people still want to throw money at him.
i understand the reasoning, but if your "donations" are being made with a specific need in mind, make sure the dev not only understands, but also accepts/agrees to this.
And that's why this was a proposition, not official. He has made up his mind, he will not support the Vibrant, no matter what. So.. I guess that settles it.
with that said though, really how much work would need to be done to port a sgs rom over to the vibrant, sure battery life wont be kick ass at first but most kernel such as glitch/sixstrings dev for either the cappy or the sgs and just tweak a few files and build it for the vibrant, probably wont have working gps but id be surprised if we didtn get some sort of kanged cm build.
you could always build the sgs cm rom with with tweaks to put in the vibrant specific libs, also keep in mind that the g1 lost support for cm but there are plenty of un official builds and they have to do a hell of a lot more to port a rom to that phone.
He said they would port it soon just stop there's no need for this

I think people might not completely understand why I support a fundraising effort.
I don't really care about any dev getting a device or anything like that. I just want to make sure that all the people who have worked hard to get CM7 working on the vibrant know how much we appreciate it. We hope that they will continue to support the device for the long term but that this is just a gift to say THANK YOU.
I feel we need something like this to deal with the trolls that have pissed off multiple vibrant devs. I see this as a fundraiser just to say "thank you and sorry about all the jerks".
I am pretty sure CyanogenMod can use any funds we donate to them. I personally intend to give a yearly donation to them anyways since they have made my android experience SO much better than stock. Since i am giving anyways i would rather do it as part of an overall fundraising drive with the Vibrant community than just as an individual.
I have no expectations that they will continue development for the Vibrant, i just think it is important that we show them how much we appreciate them.
