I have searched and found nothing..
What exactly is rooting? What benefits are there?
What is all the other stuff that is talked about? Kernel? ROM? Radio? And other stuff.
Which are preferred? Is there any other information i need to know before i begin hacking?
I'm new too all this and have searched up, all that comes up are guides on how to install. not explaining what each do to the phone.
I have a hard time believing you searched for anything.
But to be helpful... Here are the top results from a google search of "what is rooting"

I have tried googling it. all that came up were technics on how to root. Thanks for the help. what about the other questions?
here ya go!

I've been doing some reading on flashing to a new ROM and am thinking of doing this (probably Dutty's ROM), however is it necessary to unlock the phone to do this?
From what I can gather the HSPL removes any branding, but would be grateful if someone could confirm this.
I'm a bit anxious about flashing the ROM from experience with a PC. I realise that if you get things wrong it can brick the device...
Thanks in advance for any input...
bump... Anyone?
I'm interested as well.

The wiki doesn't answer the question.

Yes I have been through the wiki as well and agree that it doesn't really answer the question. As several (hundred) people now appear to have done this someone must know the answer...
It is NOT necessary to unlock first

Excellent - thanks mo.ammi.
what should i do first anyone wanna help me here??? what are good apps, or roms to try and stuff. new to android just looking for some help.
my idiot friends did it i signed in on his comp
start by looking in the guide wiki page read everything you cn in there so that you completely understand what you are doing. then the first thing to do is root.
use the pre-kitchen. it's the easiest way to get root on your phone.
find it in the ROMS sticky wiki.
ROMs are also in the sticky wiki. i'd say go with fresh 1.1 or gumbo 1.5c for now, and when you get a better knowledge of what's going on then maybe test on like 2.1 and stuff.

There are many guides on XDA regarding Android on a HD2.
For starters, try this one here:

Click on the link in my sig that says guide as it will help you out and I also have two seperate guides on how to install Andriod linked at the top of my guide.
So I've been searching all day trying to figure this out. I'm pretty sure I got my HD2 rooted (everything did as it was supposed to, but don't remember it rebooting, although it probably did). The problem I'm having is I want to load an Android ROM, but it's so confusing? I managed to get my G2 rooted and flashed multiple ROMs on it, but this is a lot different, and every time I google how to install them, it'll give me the Android ROMs, but no instructions? I found one I'd like to use (really I don't care which one it is as long as I have Android Market), but I'm seriously lost as how to flash it. I've been searching all day, and I know you guys hate posts like this, but I'm in serious need guys. Any help will be appreciated.
Also, the G2 ROM was flashed through ClockworkMod in recovery. I can get instructions on how to flash other ROMs, but it says nothing about Android ROMs.. I just want to be able to enjoy my phone!
there are stickies on how to do this
download this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
install magldr then install CWM
download the zip file you want to install fromthe dev section and reboot intot he CWM menu and isntall
Thanks bro. I'm going to try it now and see if it works!
if i may...
the link given to you is a sticky in the hd nand section. pretty obvious to see if you open that forum, imo.
in all seriousness - what kept you from finding it? was it hard to find? did you not see the forum? were you nervous to try and use it? why did you feel the need to ask a how to question before trying something out?
i ask as your question is asked countless times and i am curious what xda can do better to get people information that is readily available. i am not trying to be snarky, rather learn from you as what we can do better.
thanks.

it's implied, that if you install magldr, that you do it properly including hspl and correct radio.
please, do answer my above question.

Agreed.
I too am curious as to why people either dont look first or just cant be bothered because that is what it seems like to me.
I just cant understand why people make topics like this when there is plenty of guides and sticky on exactly how to do it, It just seems a never ending circle of n00bs asking "how do I install android" and then people linking to the sticky/guide topics over and over.
Its even more surprising because these new users are given a video to watch as soon as the join up very clearly telling them to use search and read sticky/guide topics first.

That's either a lie or you have been searching under your bed.
My friend hacked my Leo for me and needless to say I wasn't watching. I'll keep it brief and just ask what I want to know (yes I am a noob to hacking-.-):
What are the methods to flash new/better ROM onto my phone?
What is HSPL, Radio, Bootloader, MAGDLR, and NAND? And how do I use them?
IS there a manual/wiki for specifics on how to hack this phone and wtf all this stuff means?
Is it possible to have MAGDLR and NAND on one phone?? (I think I do)
AND BY ALL MEANS GUYS, IF THERE IS ONE THREAD THAT ENCOMPASSES ALL THIS INFORMATION THAT I WANT TO KNOW, IN DETAILLLLLL PLEASSSSE, POINT ME TO IT.
Because thus far, all the threads I've read give instruction to those who remotely know what they're doing.
Much appreciated guys.
That thread is exactly what I'm talking about though, I don't truley know about any of this terminology, is there any thread that outlines them?
