OK so in the samsung task manager I have a Sprint Updater running and I have never seen this before. I have had my wifi on this whole time and untill I shut it off and connected to 3g this app started running.
For people who dont know how to get to the sprint task manager hold down the home button at the home screen and hit the "task manager" button when the window pops up.
Anyone else get this running on their phone I am guessing that my phone just started the update.
Sprint updater pops up time to time when the phone begins checking for an update. It has an internal timer I believe. Every couple of weeks or so, I see it random times.
This may be different and good though.

if you get a prompt to install, stop, PM whosdaman... he can tell you how to grab it
If it is you should be able to see it downloading by hitting menu key then going to "about phone/system updates/update android

I saw that somewhere else. Why does he want people to PM him?
Because before you update, you can pull the update from your phone, and he can get it set up for everyone to use.
That's what we are all here waiting for.
After you update, you'd have to do a full system dump to get the data, instead of using Sammy/Sprint's update file.

I think this will run each time you reboot your phone. I just rebooted and saw it in background apps in system panel.

I'm having a couple off issues with the latest release.
First of all I can't turn Wifi off and keep it off. Everytime I go into the menu to check on it, it's checked, so I uncheck it, and it'll turn off for a minute or two and then all of a sudden turns right back on. This is extremely annoying.
And the other is that it seems like in some apps my touchscreen presses don't keep the phone awake. So I can be interacting with the screen and then all of a sudden it'll go dim. I'll keep pressing on screen buttons and a few seconds later the display will shut off completely. The only way I can jog it back awake in its dimmed state is to move the trackball or press some other hardware button.
Anyone else seen these problems?

I've seen similar issue with the screen staying awake, thought it's just the phone. Also not sure if it's related sometimes I'll click on a button for example, but it will almost not recognize the spot i'm clicking on and click something else on the screen.
These are the same problems I've been seeing on my phone. I imagine it is due to the multitouch hack, but I haven't gotten the motivation to downgrade my phone back to 1.31.
Do you have anything installed like power manager or locale? One of those progams may be turning on wifi.

Nope, I had installed Power Manager once a while back and didn't like how it worked so I uninstalled it. Don't have Locale installed either. I ran the task manager to see what was running and there was nothing that I could tell that would turn the wifi on.
The touch issues are rather widespread amongst 1.41 users. However, don't know what's up with ur wifi. I have a strange issue with my wifi as well though. Whenever I boot up my phone and wifi was enabled when it turned it off. I get 2 not responding errors. Everytime. Its like clockwork. With 3g? Never. It took me about 20 wipes and 10 or so hours to finally figure it out. Hopefully all these problems will be fixed with rc33
I have also noticed that Applications don't check for new updates anymore. even when I go to "My Downloads", It used to show "free" next to any application that has an update or has been uninstalled. Now it shows "Installed" next to all the applications but when I go to the application by category, It shows up as "Free" meaning that there is a new version.
the case in simple points:
1. when I open the Application..... It doesn't detect the update.
2. when I go to "My Downloads" in the market, It doesn't show "Free" next to any application that has an update.
But if I go to the application by category, It shows "Free".

i havnt had a problem with it staying on, i noticed that my phone was dimming to quickly. I know theres probably an adjustment somwhere (i think at least) but i havnt had any problems what so ever with it.
Very strange. I haven't had either problem (wifi or touchscreen). I have noticed that my battery drains more quickly than it used to, but I have been blaming this on the DroidSans autorotate feature always flipping the screen everytime I move the phone (I mess with the phone an awful lot).
Droidsan
I can not get auto rotate on JF RC-33. Does anyone have this problem???
another issue with with this version was that all my ringtones were changed for my contacts and stuff
pretty wierd.
i don't have any problems mentioned ATM.

DroidSans Tweaks checks the version. At the moment it's not going to recognize RC33 as a valid version. Wait for it to be updated.

What he said... But don't forget to enable auto rotate in your browser though. You don't need droidsans for that.
I just noticed that my GPS icon is visible at the top of my notification bar. I haven't installed any new programs since flashing the firmware, so I am not sure what is making the GPS turn on right now. And I just rebooted my phone this morning. I haven't rebooted again to see if it comes back--I want to see how long it stays there. But it has been there for five minutes or so now. Is there a way to see what app has told the phone to make the GPS active?
By the way, does anyone else think the new firmware requires a longer, more deliberate swipe to wake up the phone after tapping the power button?
um... I have the new firmware, and the GPS icon is not persistent.
I run stock, and the GPS will kick in at times, no idea why. It's not persistent though.

If you have adb enabled, and can run adb logcat when the GPS kicks in and see what running process that might be accessing this?
Even I have the same problem.
Is it the plus sign inside a rhombus with signal strength to the right side of it??
My fascinate got updated 2 days ago and ever since the sign appears on my status bar.
Also, after the update I am not able to connect my phone to my Mac. Its not able to mount the disk.
Please help !!!
Thanks,
DJ
I like ka5 too.. the heptic feedback is still notworking right but ill keep this firmware until the official one comes..
This was happening to me on JL5. Turns out it was ShopSavvy barcode scanner (Big In Japan). I promptly uninstalled. Just a thought...
I know that this has been an issue addressed in the past, but has anyone found a solution for the Wifi toggle error that has appeared when using the Samsung Epic stock froyo OS EB05. When I try to turn on my Wifi, about 75% of the time it will stall for a few minutes and say "turning on" until it says "error". Then if I go into the main Froyo settings, I can turn on my Wifi successfully about 50% of the time the 2nd time around. Very frustrating....
I've not experienced the error... can you logcat the error and attach it??
Right before doing the wifi thing..
Adb shell
Su
logcat *:V |grep wifi & net & error > /sdcard/error.log
Then do ctrl-c to end it a few seconds after the error
Then attach error.log off the sdcard.. it might get kind of big though

I have the same experience. If I turn Wi-Fi off when leave home and turn it back on upon return it will not work and return error.
Another annoying bug is with mp3 playback. After a while it will not play mp3s in any player saying file are of wrong format also some of the notifications sounds also will not sound (Twitter). Amazon mp3 store will not play previews and mp3 that I bought. Pandora will hang in the "Loading" state. The only way to fix is to restart the phone.
My phone is not rooted, full stock. All updates were done OTA.
Both issues are started after EB13 upgrade.
Have you tried leaving the pulldown open while the wifi activates?
I had a similar problem on Nebula such that I would pull down the menu, hit the button and close it immediately. I noticed that a couple times it hadn't stalled I had been distracted when turning it on and hadn't closed the menu.
I started leaving it down until it acquired and haven't had the problem since. Sounds silly and it could just be happenstance but it couldn't hurt to try it.
It does not matter which method is used (Pull down, widget or directly through settings menu). Results are the same.
Yes, I agree. It doesn't matter which method that I activate wifi, it still hangs and says there is a connection error. I've used the widget, through the android settings menu and by the dropdown. No luck. I'm shocked that Sprint would not post a fix for this if enough people are having this issue. Maybe its a Samsung issue. It never happened with Android 2.1.
I too have the same error, I'm running bonsai 4.01

Logcat dump us so we can see what's happening with the OS and it's systems when this happens.
Put it over at pastebin.com

Do you have ultimate juicedefender running by chance?
I had the same problem for a while, but only when I was experimenting with battery saver tools like SuperPower and UltimateJuice, even when it was the tool that was trying to turn on the WiFi. Once I stopped using those tools I have not seen the issue at all and I can manually toggle the WiFi as often as I like.
P.S. I stopped using SP and UJ because with Bonsai I get fairly good battery life and I don't really need them anymore.
i've had this problem with stock eb13 and ec05, and with syndicate rom. only way to fix it for me is to reboot

i have the problem with no battery saving tools.
only way anyone can get to the bottom of it is someone with the problem is gonna have to provide some data.. might be too much info for a pastebin.. but if its not then put it up... if it is then attach the file here...
This happens all the time on stock EC05. It doesnt matter how I turn it on, or what steps I take, and sorry can't get a log for anyone.
Typed by Z using the Gingerbread keyboard.
No JD for me and no root, so I can't run the log, unless there is some other way of obtaining it.
Whenever a switch data locations, so when I connect to wifi or disconnect then connect to mobile data my phone comes up with an update screen and asks me to update my phone and boy is it getting annoying, is there anyway to stop this from happening? I need to replace my recovery to stock but just havent had time to do so. :good:

so the steps people have been saying to do is to locate the Moto OTA app (in settings - app - all), FC it and then Disable Notifications. But this doesn't work for me.. I usually just end up deleting the .zip file. Eventually it comes back, but it buys me time in between notifications.
Use Titanium Backup and disable MotoOTA.apk or whatever.
As of, maybe, four hours ago, the bottom bar on my Verizon G2 is now pink and includes a down arrow menu option for the drop down menu. (I can't give a screenshot because I don't have the requisite number of posts). Did this (Verizon) G2 just update or did I somehow change some setting? I honestly can't figure it out.
Well, my phone notified me last night there was an update available. Then at about 3pm it installed the update without me doing anything. I picked up the phone and saw a notification that in so many seconds the update would install, do not turn off phone, blah blah. No option to cancel or anything. Then it installled. Without my permission, and nothing I could do about it. It rather ticked me off.
I have heard through the intenet grapevine of one or two others having this happen. No way that updates should be force installed, and I've never heard of that happening before.

Its a push from Google I believe to keep android updated.
Most phones now pop up with no cancel with only OK and remind me in X hours but installing without consent seems right in that grey area.

Look in settings> display> front touch buttons. Under 'color' you can change it back to the original color and under 'button combinations' you can remove the pull down arrow. You probably just adjusted the settings in your pocket. I don't Think VZW would push an update that randomly sets your navbar pink.
I'm on VZW - haven't seen anything recently. Post screenshot?
