Controller for the Hermes!

Now that i brought many of you since you thought it exists that was my question. I really want to but roms and games on my ppc but im sorta afraid of over pushing the buttons and eventually wearing them down significantly.
Has any ever tryed this before? Or know where these may be sold?
what a waste of space....
Austinsync - is it really necessary for you to be a prick all the time?
If you have nothing useful to say, ignore the thread and keep your short-tempered, obnoxious opinions to your self - I am sick of reading posts by you that are either unhelpful or downright vitriolic. It's unnecessary and does nothing to improve the either the quality of poeple's posts or make them read anything.
And to answer the OP's question, there is a bluetooth games controller - never tried it with a hermes and would be interested to hear from someone who has.
Have a look here
Cheers,
Smiffy.
here here lordsmiff ......
n00b bashin is not a sport.
as Said above if you don't like the thread don't post !
yea its called a flamer, people like this on a gaming forum i am a member of are banned and locked. i wish that would have to assholes here also.
thank you for the bluetooth controller link, ill for sure check it out.
I agree with some of the posters here that Austinsync's comment is un-called for. I know you do not tolerate some kinds of questions well Austinsync, but this particular Hermes board has remained fairly flaming/sarcasm free (by comparison to the upgading board for example).
So
Do not reply to a post if you cannot do one of the following:
Reply with the knowledge you undoubtedly have
Reply with guidance on how to use the forum if it's a new poster
Report the the post if you think it is "unworthy" of the forum
Obnoxious, rude, overly sarcastic comments and flaming will be met with a ban in future (of varying length) for any user who ignores this guidance and site rules.

I agree. This whole XDA Dev forum is being spoilt by lack of tolerance by some . All of us were new at this once and although there may well be some real offenders (who fail to take even basic advice from the stickies) I think we should leave it to the moderators to 'address' these people.
Mike (Channon) is there no way of you moderators classifying each post so that the 'less helpful ones' are normally not shown when main stream browsers view the posts? This may be a Forum capability that the server software lacks but it would be very useful especially in some of the rather long posts where getting to the detail can take so very long because of poor posts by some.
A filter to take out the 'less than helpful' would be really good - if used carefully.
Good luck....

Hi Tony
There is no automatic facility for this. There can be filters for certain words but they don't work very well and posters can avoid them by deliberate mis-spellings etc. The odd swear word may be ok in the eyes of some provided it is not used as a means to abuse fellow members.
As far as avoiding the general membership seeing useless or abusive posts goes, there is no immediate way of doing this. Only when a Mod or Admin spots something or it is reported does it get moderated. The prevailing feeling in Mod/Admin circles is to try to hit a balance of freedom of expression against perfect manners and etiquette. So, of course, we will never keep everyone happy or even most members happy. Both those that hate noob posts and those that like gentle politeness will not be satisfied as we hover around the middle between the two extremes. Despite this, I feel it is the correct approach. So as above when we get a post that falls the wrong side of the line, I tend to leave it for all to see but also post the condemnation of it as well. Other moderators may delete the post. This can cause problems as the following posts from members can tend look odd as they appear to be replying to something that no longer exists. (I may obscure flagrant swearing however).
On the whole this particular Hermes board has been friendly. Bigger problems come in upgrading when you have the inevitable conflict between Noobs trying to upgrade and Gurus trying to develop ROMs- the clash of the Tytns as I like to think of it The true Gurus tend to keep out of this as they are the ones that originally made it possible to cook the ROMs and their task was over a long time ago. They are waiting to get their teeth into newly released devices and kick off another round of development. The cycle will always end though, at the stage where Noobs conflict with ROM Gurus - and that is where we are at now, made worse of course by the doubling in members on-line at any one time since last year.
Mike
This is a pretty nice place overall. Nicely run, too.
Anyway, the bluetooth controller listed above looks pretty darn cool. Too bad it's so expensive.
Is there any way to get a normal usb controller, coupled with a usb adaptor to run on the hermes? I mean... i have NO idea about how drivers work on the hermes... So this whole idea could be rediculous... but if it gets the gears in the head spinning... why not?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that would require USB-host functionality, which HTC has been studiously ignoring for quite a while now.

I've ordered one to try so ill drop back and let you know how it goes (if it does).. but it may take a few days/weeks to arrive as its shipping form Australia to the UK. I only found very few places selling them and the Aus one worked out cheaper than one that looked to be in the UK (but wasnt very clear at all)

Pact To Respect All Users Right To Learn

I have been quite dismayed with the predominate attitude, taken on lately by many senior members, that it is okay to treat people as lesser individuals, simply because their computer skills are lacking. Knowledge needs to be shared, and is detrimental to society as a whole when individuals feel afraid to learn. Additionally, the ever growing flame wars between senior members is not beneficial to anyone.
Many of have been treated horribly in the past by others, and it becomes all to easy to lash out from behind a computer at someone, using a faceless individual to represent those whom have hurt you. The truth is, we all have pain, we all have been belittled by others, and by continuing this behavior in a forum only hurts us all.
Though I know I will most likely be flamed for this, I want to make a post, asking senior members to agree to a pact stating:
1. I will be as patient as possible with each individual, and respect the fact that what me seem easy to me, can be difficult to others.
2. I will restrain from flaming others in the forum. If an individual attempts to start something with me, I pledge to be the bigger person, and ignore the comments.
3. If I so choose to help someone, I pledge to do it in a constructive, non-demeaning manner.
I recognize that this is symbolic only, and is not something that can, or was intended to be enforced. I feel that it is a strong thing for this community to have a core group of senior member that refuse to play into this hurtful, non-constructive behavior. Please join me in agreeing to this. Thank You.
I'll only agree if the posters SEARCH first, if a question has been answered 4 times that day, I'm going to be mean.
And do NOT post questions in development, that is my BIGGEST issue.
Agreed, Although only as a Member who has all but given up in asking for help around here. Its Great being part of a Community, But less so when the community almost turns on you because of your knowledge level.
I'm Fairly tech Savvy, but when I dont understand Something, I prefer to ask in the hope of some help, Athough at the moment I dont feel Inclined to as the pompous, Eliteists run riot around here for the time being, Pissing on anyone who dare ask a question.
Some people need to remember, Its only an easy answer if YOU know it, Not everyone does.

It is nothing to sign. My point is that it is better to not say anything, then to be mean. I am not here to change your opinion, and I respect the work you do on here, but just feel that everyone needs to be nicer to one another.

Having taught math at the University of Oregon for the past six years, I have learned that such an elitist attitude towards learning hurts everyone. I am a probabilistic researcher, and could make anyone on this forum feel incompetent with a few "simple" questions. We all have strengths and weaknesses, and touting yours above others, can never serve a beneficial purpose.

At the Moment, it all feels like the Community is seperating almost, the exact opposite of what we (possibly) want to achive, all through total intollerance of other peoples knowledge threshold.
It feels like, for want of a half arsed comparison, a mechanic laughing at you because you couldn't fix your own engine. I have an Android Phone, am I expected to know how it works under the Bonnet Inside/Out, and if I asked a question to a Mechanic (XDA-User) would I expect to be made a mockery of, because I didnt have their level of Knowledge?

It is separating, and not necessarily for the best. I understand people don't have the same amount of knowledge, but most of this knowledge is readily available for those willing to spend the time to look for it.
Nobody on these forums started out as the Android gods, we all started out with the same amount of knowledge on Android. However we found out one thing and another thing, and so on, until we could piece the information together.
We're not asking for people to know everything, just enough to where somebody doesn't have to hold their hand through the entire process (i.e. If I give you some commands, you should know a where to input them [or at least have a general idea])
We're not asking for the world, just some common sense.
Anyways, good comparison

Correct. I, Along with a lot of others, dont WANT to be Spoon-Fed infomation, I'm one of those who like to study things and work it out myself if I can IMO the best way to gain Knowledge.
Many (Including yourself JAguirre) are very helpful, and no, no one needs to be GIVEN the infomation all the time, but when some are looking for a nudge in the right direction, all they are getting is a shove the other way.
What I can't stand is when others have to be polite jerks when asked for their personal opinion on a subject.
So I am all for this thread.
Coming from MMUS.US to this treatment, well I'm disappointed to see how immature this larger forum is...
I will help anyone I can provided they have posted in the right place.
I have never seen anyone on these forums getting flamed for asking a sensible question, most those that are is down to a sheer laziness displayed by a good few who can't spend five minutes reading the rules or doing a quick search.
As far as I'm concerned if that's there attitude then they deserve everything they get.
Harsh I. Know but that's just my opinion, I have run a fair few forums and getting tough is sometimes the only thing that gets through to them, being all nicely nicely you might as well throw the doors open and rename the place the nut house!

This is the right direction in which we should be moving. I am not going to let people walk all over me, but at the same time it is not okay to use the forum as a way to express anger (which we all have too much of).
I have been using this site for almost three long years. I rarely post but I do feel there is a change in the way things feel on here. I have modded and maxed out five devices of my own and could not even count what I have ,in one way or another, passed on to people where I work. I agree that people should at least put out some kind of effort to find an answer on their own. However, the search option ,for most people, just leads to information overload. Most of the posts are in a language that 99% of the newer members cannot understand. This site started out as a place for people to share what they have learned. It feels more like and exclusive club everyday now. Please people, do the world a favor. Be patient, listen, and help a newb. We were not born XDA addicts. We became them. Someone helped you once, so be kind and help others. At least be respectfull. Common human decency goes a long way. Help a fellow out. The world needs more teachers. And that folks is my rant...........
I have no problem respecting people who deserve it. If someone takes the time to read the stickies, post in the right place and search (even a little), they're fine in my book. But when theres already 6 open threads in one week in any particular forum on the same subject, and you open up a seventh, that doesnt deserve respect.
Dont get me wrong, it doesnt deserve noobish disrespect either, but I'm not going to be inclined to help that person. Perhaps thats what we all ought to do: instead of slamming people for asking the same questions over and over, we just ignore them.

no one deserves respect if they fail to respect others
they should have 1 strike each time they go against rules including cursing or discrimination.

Need a partner or team in Orange County Ca for android projects

I'm starting a new company and i'm looking for a partner that is experienced or at a beginners level like me.
The focus of the development and the business will be google android application development targeted towards large corporations.
if you are dedicated and are willing to work with me then we both have a bright future ahead of us
My origional partner started getting flakey and didn't want to take the time necessary to get things moving
The company is pretty much set up and ready to go I just need a solid serious individual to work with me.
It may be a struggle at first and I have nothing to offer except a share in profits.
Google android is amazing and is taking over the industry with a bright future ahead.
taking advantage of the market today guarantees success.
Even if you are a beginner to android and java but are willing to learn and do what it takes then I would love to hear from you.
if you are interested please email me at
[email protected] so we can further discuss the opportunity

I didn't claim to be a professional.
And there is always someone out there like you.
I was expecting a few responses like yours.
You must be an English major and a professional writer lol
it must be hard to be so perfect.
Correcting people is a great way to get your post count up buddy.
The point is that I'm a regular person.
Everybody makes mistakes.
A pm would have been a little more appropriate i think.
But the people like you that know it all thrive on trying to put others down in order to get through your day.
I'm sure I must have misspelled something or forgot to cross a t or dot an i.
Plus I write on my phone. Auto correct isn't always the best feature.
Hopefully the real people out there won't be such haters.

Woah, woah, woah. Ok, now that we've come down to walking speed, let me continue:
themapleboy was clearly just trying to help. It never hurts to be formal in situations that facilitate it, i.e. seeking a business partner, at least in my book, is clearly of those situations. themapleboy recognised this and attempted to help.
Let us now segue into a justification from a professional:
Moreover, I'm a socio/psycho/computational linguist (meaning that I study the effects of linguistic registers – among other things – and how these registers interact with human perception) and there's clearly nothing wrong with writing informally – in fact, linguists care not for "correctness" for we study language as it evolves and not as it once was. On the other hand, informality does, however, have an affect on how others perceive your intelligence, professionalism, and seriousness: formality ultimately determines whether-or-not you'll find an ideal business partner. You said yourself that you search for someone who is dedicated and a solid serious individual; therefore, an investment of a tad bit more formality and seriousness may ensure that, instead of finding someone amateurish and lighthearted, you find someone who's equally as driven and serious as you. /justification for themapleboy
I, too, am a business owner. It was difficult. The fees to start up were outrageous, and the immense amount of thought and planning required were, needless to say, overwhelming. Frankly, I was nervous. Unfortunately, I sound like your old business parter – which is, ultimately, why I closed my business. My heart is in linguistic research and not application development, which I still do in my spare time.
Let me be absolutely clear in saying that this message is not, by any means, an attack. Let me also add that themapleboy's original message was, too, not meant to be an attack. People receive criticism and distribute criticism in varying ways; each person is unique, which is why you must always assume positive intent no matter how difficult it may seem.
Good luck with finding someone, and may both of your futures be as successful as you hope them to be.
Sorry to say, but themapleboy makes a valid point.
Despite being no english major myself, I would recommend proper communication skills when dealing with potential business associates, customers, etc.
The image you project will likely make the difference between a long fruitless struggle and a successful venture.
Only my $.02

[Q] Developers Offended?

Hopefully the developers of BajaRom and Beans rom aren't offended by the locking of their Alliance rom thread? For a rom that's provided for free, I'm surprised/offended by the harsh response of some members. I understand the want to have something now (FIOS has made me forever spoiled)... but as a member who has actually donated I just hope this doesn't affect the development of the new alliance rom negatively. These fine developers working many many hours for beer money help me enjoy a large investment (Note 3) - hence the question.
It is sad how demanding some people are but this is the way of the world. Hopefully there are enough of us that know how to show our appreciation and have patience so that it becomes more of a balance for the devs when it comes to dealing with all the nonsense in the community. XDA moderators locking the forum can only be a positive thing for us because it will prevent any negative comments from getting out of hand. I do think that the devs who dedicate their time to bring us excellence are a breed apart from most of us. I also think, and hope, that these devs understand a bit about human nature as experienced by watching and interacting with the community and as such have developed a resilience when it comes to dealing with poorly chosen comments. Negativity can be disheartening, but since this is unavoidable we need to be aware of what we say and in what context we make our comments so that we may encourage our developers to continue the selfless work they do for us.
A thank you and a plea to bare with us is in order.
Thank you developers. Many of us appreciate your work more than you may ever know.

I think everyone will understand. Things were getting heated and I've seen it get it real ugly on previous phones I've had. Some of which I've partaken in, got warned, left xda for a year, etc. I'd like to think I'm more wiser and think before I type now. It was for the best until the new rom is ready. The only problem now is if anyone needs support they have to put it here. It wasn't a hardcore lockdown imo. Just a time out until Alliance is ready that's all.

I'm not really sure how to explain this in an XDA friendly way, so I'll explain it to you the way I did to a friend that didn't even know about XDA.
"XDA is public, it's friendly, supportive and helpful. With guides and files that you find on XDA, if something goes wrong, there is generally already a safety net in place to help you recover. Devs on XDA generally don't post things until they're "ready for the end user" and if they do, you get things like "[WIP], [UNTESTED], Your warranty is now void!!!, I'm not responsible, Flash at your own risk and I need testers". So being on XDA can be fun and exciting, almost like having a NERF gun war with a group of friends. -- Bkerlers EDL project, in a way is kind of the same thing, except the safety net has been set on fire and a bed of nails is now underneath it, your group of friends have all left you to play alone, and when something goes wrong and it's time to go back to war you realize that your NERF gun has become a water pistol, and your friends are now the enemy but with LR-300's, M4A1 Carbines, Barrett .50 Cals and Galils, oh, and your water pistol is also empty."
That toolset or project, whatever you want to consider it, is the real world. I'd call it a developer tool. Those devs on XDA that a lot of us might recognize by name, that are working on multiple devices at the same time, and that also bring you things like root, bootloader unlocks, bypasses, hacks, mods, modules, and safetynet bypassing, might use that toolset in some rare cases, but they might also vehemently advise against, and probably even protest an "end user" playing with it, if they even acknowledge it at all. XDA has the community guidelines to discourage inexperienced users from doing things that they don't understand, because 1). the devs here aren't earning a regular salary to sit around and give "Exploitation, Development & Flashing on Android Devices 101" guides and 1 on 1 walkthroughs to every noob that wants to get flash happy, 2). There is the possibility of liability if things like that become very public and are used incorrectly, for the wrong reasons, or some Dev trying to be a good Samaritan accidentally creates the real world equivalent of Raul Menendez. 3). Laws are different everywhere, and in some places that toolset might even be illegal and teaching someone how to use it could be a crime or "an act of terrorism". If you do decide to use it, it's definitely under the "do so at your own risk" section, and I doubt that you'll find someone on XDA willing to throw out their reputation to help you if you fall into trouble. If you're interested in the risk, while I'm not actually recommending anyone do this, pirating Nintendo ROMs is probably equivalent, except you don't have to worry about ruining your expensive hardware. The possibility of the FBI knocking on your door is still there though, depending on your search history and all. xD
PM me, please start with proof reading for spelling mistakes and then tell me what your experience with Android and Android development is so I know how to talk to you.
