[Q] All messages GONE!!! - G2 and Desire Z General

Hi,
What the hell, how is it even possible.. Just rght now, I was waiting for my messages to loead for a long time, because the message screen was white, and then I realised they are gone.. Wrote a new one and that is there, but how can they delete them selves..? Since I had a lot of important stuff and numbers there, is there any way to restore?
Thank you very much for any help..!
Alari

no way to restore. they are gone... happened to me one.

What about if you restore to the latest nandroid backup? All the messages you had at that point should be there. I know it's not a cure-all, but even if you lose a few you won't have lost EVERYTHING. Hope it helps. Good luck.

There are numerous threads that discuss this issue. It's happened to me once and many others as well.
As mentioned above, a nandroid backup is one solution. If you search for the other threads, I remember someone mentioning an application that backs up your SMS messages if you have important information that you don't want to lose stored there, doing daily backups is a solution.

Yeah, this has happened to me on several occasions. Really started to irritate me!!
Now I use MyBackupPro's schedule backup feature to backup my sms/mms'
Sucks how this is our only option, but I'll take it rather than using a non-rooted stock rom.

All setting (such as Txt, phone numbers Scenes) Between Roms

I am really sorry, I look like the annoying new guy.
I have read and read and read, I have rooted, I have tried roms, I am having a BLAST, but I can't find this ONE answer. I am positive it is here too, I am just not searching right.
How do I keep or transfer all me setting, txts, and stuff like that between roms? I am sure there is some sort of backup/restore option, but what is it?
I am sorry, and thanks in advanced for who ever took the time to help.
Titanium Backup. The donate version is WELL worth it.

try titanium backup in market, also Astro is good for saving apps....
Thanks so much.
I just see so many roms here, I have been trying them all, but all my settings are in my original software, so I usually play for a while, and nandroid back to original.
But some of these are so good, I want to stay there. Haha.
Thanks again!

so many roms, which one? SMS specific

i know there are tons and tons of ROMs to try, but i dont really have the time and patience to try every single ROM to find what i need, which is quite simple/basic really. i'm still running a stock ROM that my TMOUS HD2 came with, but the SMS is laaaaaaaaaaggggggy as can be. almost makes me want to return my phone. it's kind of laggy switching between conversations and stuff like that, but the major issue i have with it is when i get an incoming text, my whole phone freezes. sometimes up to 10 seconds. and if i'm talking to more than one person at once, it gets SO frustrating and i want to break the phone into pieces lol
so basically, i'm just curious as to if anyone knows of a specific ROM (or ROMs) that significantly speed up the SMS issue. i've searched a few, but none that got SMS specific. most just say faster and more reliable. so now i'm deciding to post a thread for one. the only thing i have on my phone currently is cookies home tab. along with a few other minor cabs (like the middle unlock slider)
i'm ok about trying a few out, i just cant go down the long list of ROMs flashing for days. so any help would be greatly appreciated
and also, sometimes the whole SMS app will act up and i will get a text, and it will say the exact same message that i just sent, just looks like it's from the other person. so i have to delete the whole conversation to be able to text again. and at other times i will send a text, and i think they get the message, but it never shows up in the conversation. again, delete the convo and restart the phone. it's quite irritating.
i should also mention i want to keep the conversation setup, and i do use swype (i think i read somewhere that swype wasnt compatible with that particular ROM)
If your phone is freezing that long then there is another issue at hand. Try formatting your SDCard. I experienced freezing once early on and formatting the SDCard fixed it for me.
As for a ROM to use, this question is asked at least once a week and no one can answer it for you but yourself. If you don't have the patience to try different ROMS then you really should read abit more on the forum before making a decision.
Energy ROMS work very good for me for what it's worth.
yeah i have a few i am going to try, but i thought maybe someone was experiencing a similar issue that they fixed. would save me some trouble heheh.

Best way to Remove the Bloatware???

Hi guys,
I've read the answer to this somewhere on the MT4G thread here but can't find it anymore for some reason.
I've rooted with the S off and all that good stuff and I do remember someone saying Titanium Backup would be a good way to remove all the T-Mobile stuff but....
1-I don't remember what is safe to remove
2-How exactly can I remove the stuff with Titanium Backup?
I'd appreciate if someone can direct me to the right thread or just help me out.
P.S: On a separate question, when I try to write someone's name on Handcent SMS into the TO part, contacts are showing in doubles. One without a dash between the numbers and one with a dash between the numbers in the format of 555-444-3333(the american way) It also happens on an app I use called Fast Dialer. I checked my contacts/view and I only have one selected which is PHONE.
Thanks again.

click on "problems?" and it'll download the busy box, titanium backup will restart and you'll see the apps installed.
great. thanks a million. they are all in there now.
I used Root Explorer. I just selected the apps I wanted out, cut them and made a folder in my SD card. I pasted them there just in case I need to put them back. As soon as I did that, they were gone from my app drawer.
"Freeze" them in Titanium. It will remove them from your drawer listing but keeps all files on the phone in the event they are needed for future upgrades. You'll forget they ever existed; and you can "unfreeze" them later to put them back in the app drawer if you ever want to use them again.

or... MAKE A NANDRID... then uninstall them and free up the space on your phone... you can make backups first and restore them in the future if necessary or you can skip the backup crap and use the nandroid to restore in the future...
thanks for all the responses guys.

[Q] `com.android.htcprofile` and `recovery` in Titanium Backup

At the bottom of my Titanium Backup application list I see two entries: `com.android.htcprofile` and `recovery`. Both are crossed out, as if they stand for uninstalled applications. They are not backed up, so there's no reason for them to appear in the list. Refreshing the list does not make these entries to go away.
What are these entries? What is the importance of having them in the list? Why does Titanium Backup display these entries in the list, even though Titanium Backup itself seems to understand that they are "uninstalled" and not backed up?
BUMP
I was wondering the same thing, I don't see Recovery anywhere in my list but I do see com.android.htcprofile
I'm having problems with my widgets disappearing on the stock Rom. Only on the stock homescreen not ADW. Was thinking this could be the cause possibly?

If it was i am thinking it is.
HTC profile is a stock application much like blackberry has different applications. Same basic idea. When you are are home, and you have the "home profile" active it will not pull your work emails. If you are at work it pulls everything but lowers the volume not to disturb people around you.
and i do not have "recovery" on mine so i do not know what it does.
google doesn't even know the answer to your question, therefore, it must not have an answer.

Well, what I'd like to know is not what "HTC profile" does. The main question here is really about Titanium Backup: what exactly does that mean when Titanium Backup shows in its list an application that is crossed-out?
Normally, Titanium Backup shows a crossed-out application when you uninstall something. An uninstalled app is shown crossed-out until you refresh the list. After refresh it disappears. Sometimes, an uninstalled application might remain in the list if you previously backed it up. So, a persistent crossed-out entry normally means "it is uninstalled, but you still have a backup for it".
In my case I see `com.android.htcprofile` and `recovery` crossed-out in the list, but I have no backup for these applications. So, the question is why Titanium Backup keeps showing them in the list? What is Titanium Backup trying to tell me by keeping these crossed-out entries in its list?
Same here. DAMN, and I just did a system wipe, thinking I unistalled something by mistaki
I ended up at this thread when I Googled after encountering the same thing. I came across it because I was trying to free up some space. It is associated with a 4 MB+ text file which Titanium can't delete. I think the text file is the reason it's showing up.

[Q] Zips Creamed Glacier v4.01

Hello All,
Just wanted to say that the new update is awesome. I was looking through the settings and I can seem to find option to change the wake button. Is there an option to change the wake button?
Love the new update Zip!
Eric
Don't flame him guys. He doesn't have enough posts to put this in Zips thread.
Glad you like the ROM, and welcome to the forum.
I'm about an hour out from being able to install it so I can't answer your question. I can, however, tell you that if you are wanting trackpad wake its not happening on ICS yet.
only option i saw is to set volume buttons to wake phone
Gmail Issue
I'm a newbie as well, and know this question probably fits better in the dev section, but don't have enough posts to put it there. I have been lurking on here for a while, learned a ton. I've been using Zip's 3.11 ROM for a while, no problems and loved it! I flashed the new 4.01 ROM and ever since have been having trouble with Gmail syncing. It seems my phone is not receiving push notifications. The only way I get any emails is if I manually press the sync button in the gmail app. Wondering if anyone else has this problem or know of anything I could try to fix it.
Thanks!

Have no problem with mine, automatically sync and notify me when I get new email. Maybe try reinstall Gmail again and clear data? Or better yet reflash the whole rom, fullwipe and everything before hand.
@op
The only wake button that u can use now is volume, home button and power button. Zips mentioned touchtap wake is coming, so just wait for it

Don't do this. Just remove your google account and add it again.
Also make sure gmail settings are default or set to your likings or w/e.

I already had wiped/reflashed and then flashed the gapps zip. That seems to fix the problem. I'm wondering if it had something to do with a system data file that I restored using Titanium Backup. I am not restoring any old system files this time.
@estallings15. I thought it might be something with ICS. Good to know. Thanks for the information and humoring a posting newbie. I've been following the forums for a while now. Most of my questions get asked by someone else.

another newbie question
...since I can't post in the dev forum either.
I was previously using Virtuous Affinity with Sense 3.5. I was using the default Messages app there and had a large store of messages. I don't delete often for some personal reasons. I tried to use Titanium backup to restore my messages storage which made the phone process die over and over on reboot.
I know if I had to get them, the raw data storage is in SQLite. I'm just wondering if there's a more reasonable way to get them imported into ICS (Zips CG)?
@playdrums Well here goes something as a newbie trying to help.
One possibility to restore your messages that I can think of would be to restore your previous rom and then download SMS Backup+ back up your messages with that, and then restore/reflash Zips CG and restore the messages with the same app which is included if you installed it with aroma. This will also leave a copy of your texts on your gmail account.

Thanks spork. I have a nandroid backup of my Virtuous Affinity setup. I may be able to do this. I'm liking Creamed Glacier but I do miss Sense a bit. And, don't laugh, seriously, I miss the genius button. Google Voice does not perform as well.
I have the genius button apk. Wonder if it would work on ICS?

I'm with you I also installed a few hours ago but am curious about what's going on when I pull up the thread to read it and it seems like it's having problems focusing and scrolling is a Lil slow, is that what's called ROM slowdown, and I also can't post in that thread so if anyone got ideas of what I got to do not only on the phone but also to be able to post in the thread. Someone in there was asking about Swype someone should tell them to Google the beta installer it works. Thanks all

I did. Sorry, should have mentioned that as well. I've decided to restore back to 3.11 and wait to see how things shape up with the next update. Currently on the job hunt and need my phone more stable than the 4.01+patch was giving me (Gmail not syncing and frequent reboots/locking up). Loving the work done on it so far though!
PS. I'm trying my best not to fit in to the typical noob stereotype haha.

Read a few comments above. Google Voice performs better under Sense ROMs. Zips Creamed Glacier is an awesome ROM, but I honestly just flashed back over to MIUI today for more stability.
EDIT: I forgot to include my point. If you want to use a more reliable version of Google Voice, you're better off staying away from ICS ROMs for now.
