So I rooted my Eris a few weeks ago and flashed kaosfroyo. I had the swype beta before rooting but it somehow disappeared. So I re-downloaded it from the the Swype beta email and now when I go and change the text input to swype it gives me a pop-up message saying this version of swype is not configured for this device and will result in limited functionality, (can't swype, only works as a reg keyboard). If this has already been addressed I cannot find the thread. TIA

Go into Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All
Remove any thing related to swype (installer and program).
Try reinstalling after that.
(You may also need to remove the settings directory in /data/data/ and clear the dalvik cache in recovery as well. I can't remember if these steps were needed or not)
Follow Funky's advice, and then check out this thread too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742145
Thanks very much. I'm now swyping once again.

Glad we / I could help.
Please note: I'm not asking for the APK here.
I had an Evo and signed up for the swype beta and was accepted into the program, I returned my evo and got a droid x which comes with swype installed.
As you all know, swype has continually been updated since the version available on my phone. I'm in the beta program and able to download/login to the swype site with my beta account, i've successfully installed the swype beta before on my evo using my credentials.
Here's my problem:
with the latest installer(1.1.5151 i think) it's telling me my current version isn't properly licensed, and is asking me to disable swype to generate a license, because it comes with my droid x i'm not able to disable the keyboard.
even if i have to root is there a way i can disable or remove the built in swype keyboard so i can install the beta?
Are you rooted? If so you can get rid of the swype.apk, but you also have to find the swype library file, which I don't know the exact name or location of off the top of my head.

Tutorial: Installing Beta Swype on Droid X (or other pre-installed devices)
First, your Droid X must be rooted. There is plenty of info out there on how to accomplish this.
Get a root file manager (I use root explorer)
1. Change your default input method to anything other than Swype.
2. Mount file system as R/W
3. Delete (or move/rename) \system\app\swype.apk
4. Delete (or move/rename) \data\dalvik-cache\[email protected]@[email protected]
5. Delete (or move/rename) \system\lib\libSwypeCore.so
6. Reboot
7. Download and Run the latest Swype Beta installer
8. ENJOY!
I hold no responsibility if you screw up your system, and recommend you make a backup before attempting this, but, the above steps worked perfectly for me, and I am now running the latest Swype beta on my X.
These steps should also work on other models that come pre-installed with Swype from the factory, but I don't have another one to test, so have no way of being sure. If anyone tries it, let me know if it works for you!

Why do you want to use the beta instead of the stock Swype app?
The beta does seem to work better
One notable feature in the beta is that you can double tap words to pop up a list of other possible words you meant to use instead
Yes, the new Swype is better than stock: larger keys, better recognition and, as you note, double tap brings up alternate word choices. But no need to mess with the beta registration, authentication, etc. You can update to Swype 2.15 here.
Got my phone on Friday, running Eclair today!
Love it, you folks are awesome!
Question: Can I get rid of the installed SMS and substitute one I like better?
How do I remove the one that came in the software? It says "Launch by default", can I get it to not do that?
Do you have a favorite SMS program?
Thanks,
Mellow
U can extract the zip on ur computer and delete the .apks u don't want and rezip it and flash it

OK, that makes sense, thanks!
I also figured out that it can be done in Titanium by simply touching the application, a box pops up, and you can select remove from device. This may be obvious to some, but I am learning as I go here.
I tried that but failed so I just do what I said

Myself and alot of users are/were having the Swype problem with it not working and saying trial period is over time to upgrade. Also the blue borders when trying to use and swype is not responding. Took me a couple hours today, but I got it. I tried everything else First, but this WORKS.
1: Use Root Explorer and Delete the Swype files in System/App (1 File) and System/Lib (2 Files). (Mount in R/W to Delete)
2: Go to Swype Beta online with your phone. Sign up for beta and they will send it to your Gmail.
3: Install and be happy again with your Swype!!
This is a Swype specific Problem and the beta is kick A$$!! Check it out on swype.com and you will see many with this same problem. It is not limited to MT4G.
Now you can recieve all new Swype Upgrades Via E-Mail.
The only problem I have is that MIUI doesn't seem to be compatible with the swype download from their site. Any ideas?
Try pulling swype from one of the roms that had it. It works flawlessly for me
If you pm me, I can tell you the easy way of getting swype
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Yes pull it from a working rom,
Pull the following
System app swype.apk
System lib lib.swype
something along those lines, and use adb to push them into rom of your choice,

I've had a lot of problems with previous betas on my mt4g, especially with the swype not working at times (usually when I have to send a fast/important message, lol) but after a few days with 3.0 I haven't had the same. It's working great (nock on wood).

Just to let everyone know you can now go to Swype.com, sign up for the beta with your KF and get your fully functioning and official Swype hot off the press!

Mine is rooted and running and ICS (cm9) rom but after I log into the installer, it says that the screen size is not supported. Think you might know why?

[FIX] Getting more market apps to show up
If you have an Android phone, you might have noticed that some of the apps and games that you are able to download onto your phone do not show up on your Kindle Fire. There could be several reasons that this happens, but one of the main reasons I have seen is because of the density of the Fire's LCD display. Although it is a large display it is considered a medium density display because of how many pixels fit into a square inch.
Any easy fix would be to edit /system/build.prop and change ro.sf.lcd_density=160 to ro.sf.lcd_density=240. Sure this works but you will be left with items on screen being enlarged quite a bit. Icons will be much larger and you will not be able to fit as many on each homescreen. There is one other thing you can do to help this situation.
1. Change ro.sf.lcd_density=160 to ro.sf.lcd_density=240 in /system/build.prop (you will need to mount /system as RW using adb or something like ES Explorer or Root Explorer)
2. Create a file named local.prop in /data and add qemu.sf.lcd_density=160
3. Reboot and enjoy having more apps and games available in the Android Market
So why does this work? Well the Android Market will get your density from ro.sf.lcd_density and see it as a high density display. qemu.sf.lcd_density will override this for the drawable objects in apps and will use the medium density setting for displaying these items. So you end up getting the best of both worlds.
Enjoy!

This also fixes FCs that you might get! You could also get "LCD Resolution (Root)" but you'll have to manually set it back to its original resolution.
I don't think screen density is the answer. Mine is set to 160 and I have no problems getting my apps to show up in the Market.

What color is the Swype "S" on your installer icon? If it is anything other than Orange, then you're not installing the version compatible with your Fire.
Since I also use Swype on my Thunderbolt, I signed up for another beta with another email address I have, and that let me download the latest beta on my Kindle. I tried this 2 weeks ago and got an error that Swype was not compatible with my device. I saw that they have Swype now for the Galaxy Tab and that was my cute to try again. I did and magic happened.
If you have the orange S and are not able to do the install, make sure you don't have any other versions of the installer on your KF and try again. You might also try downloading again just in case the download was bad.
Good luck!

I am stuck once I get to the swype installer. I click the "enable swype" button, which according the swype installation page is supposed to take me to the keyboard recognition page, which technically it does, but doesn't allow me to choose a new keyboard.
My fire is stock with the most recent update (6.2.2?). Does it need to be rooted or running another rom for this to work?

I was just going to ask you if you were running the stock ROM. That is the problem. You can still do it though. I had Swype when I ran stock ROM.
I'm working right now and can't refer to the instructions I found, but Google it and read the threads completely. You can do it, but it involves moving the Swype apk to your system apps folder, changing permissions and then deleting the apk to keep Swype from force closing. It's a hassle, but worth it if you don't want to install a recovery and flash CM7 or other ROM.

Is there a version just for the kindle or is it the same download that you use for your phone? Does it work with the stock firmware?

It does not appear to be resizeable, so I assume it's the phone version, but Swype apparently approves of it for this device, and it does work perfectly with the KF. It is a large size though, but I don't mind because my fingers are big.

Still no luck; even with a new swype account.

Ok. So I even went ahead to create a new swype beta account just to use for my kindle fire. But after the installation, it still tells me the screen size is not yet supported. Yes, the color of the installer is orange. And since I just created the account, I'm sure I have the latest installer. Could it be due to the fact that I'm running the ics (cm9) rom? What rom do you have on your KF?

I'm thinking the ROM is the issue. I couldn't install on CM9 but do have it working on CM7
Hmm I have it workin just fine. Does any1 kno if there a version just for tablets that we can steal, lol. (APK) I would prefer the resizable is all.

I tried the screen density fix and am still receiving the "screen size not supported" error after a reboot.
I too am rooted and running the latest CM9. Any other potential resolutions?
Still no luck with official update (2/16) for swype for cm9 ics on the Kindle Fire

So swype has a new update today (2/16) that is supposed to support ICS tablets officially. I tried my luck by downloading a new installer and tried to install in on my rooted KF running the cm9 ICS rom. No luck. Still gives me the 'not supported screen' error message. Are there any hacks that can get our lovely swype to work on the KF for ICS yet? I'm getting tired of the stock keyboard.

I may do a TRWP backup and then do the update.

I'm running CM7 and had no problem downloading and installing the latest Swype update. Honestly, not being able to use my Swype on CM9 will keep me on CM7 indefinitely.

I extracted the Swype apk from my backup of CM7 so I could use it on my CM9 install. It works just fine but the keyboard is more narrow than the screen even in the vertical orientation and it occasionally nags about the version being incorrect for the screen size when going from vertical to horizonal.
Instead of using your backup to install, just run your installer and download a fresh install of the beta. As long as you have your user name and password, Swype will let you download it again. Then you have a fresh install without any settings that may exist in the backup.
