[Q] MMS not working....tried every solution I found - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi,
I have a problem with sending/recieving MMS.
I know that this question was raised here million times, but for the last hour I was searching here, googling around the net...and no solution I found worked for me.
APN settings for MMS are correct, I tripple checked that. Tried many variation, change few settings, but no luck.
I read somewhere that when wifi is on, MMS wont work. But wifi is usually off in my case.
Tried to delete APN settings, and reset them to default....also tried to manualy enter APN settings for data and for MMS.
Also tried to chage custom user agent...now it is on default android.
Size of MMS wasnt the case because I was trying to send small audio files (about 20kB).
Here you can see logcat while I was trying to send MMS.
This lines from it I guess that are important:
E/Mms:transaction( 1042): Url: http://mms.telenor.rs/servlets/mms
E/Mms:transaction( 1042): HTTP error: Forbidden
E/SendTransaction( 1042): java.io.IOException: HTTP error: Forbidden
Somehow it is not allowing me to use MMS server.
After that I turned on setting 'use only 2G networks' in settings / mobile network and next MMS was sent without problem. Then I disabled that option, waited a little for connecting with provider to finish and tried again. MMS was sent succesfully again.
Then I rebooted the phone, and after that I cant send MMS with or without that option turned on. No luck after another reboot. In logcat now are the same errors.
Anyone have a clue how to fix this?

Bump???
Anyone has any idea?

Ask your network operator.

Also:
Before you start, you need to activate your handset for receiving and sending MMS. For handset configuration send a SMS with text ‘mms’ to 131. Once you have sent the SMS for MMS configuration, you will receive MMS settings in the form of an SMS which you need to save.
You can also download MMS settings on your handset click here.

That came to me, but wanted to try something else before that for few reasons.
First: MMS worked fine when I first started to use android (mostly sense builds). I haven't tried it until recently, and as I said in two occasions MMS was sent successfully, so if my network operator is blocking it, I guess that I couldn't done that in those two times.
Second: I bought HD2 on contract at my network operator 6 months ago, and already violated warranty at least 50 times, so it would be awkward to ask them why is MMS not working on my Android HD2
Anyway, thanx for the suggestion, if I don't get any other hint here, I might try that...
edit: I just read you second message. MMS is activated long time ago and I have used it many times. I know the correct configuration for MMS. I have tried the one that was auto installed at first boot, and they are the same as the one I have.

To be fair they don't need to know what OS you have on your phone. They probably don't even know the HD2 can run Android, or possibly even what Android is.
Navigate your phone to the link I supplied above. The problem of course is that the page may well be dedicated to some sort of WM application rather than Android.
I googled this and returned only some issues of application development for the iPhone and Android where people were suggesting to use different port numbers etc, hence my advice to ring your network operator.

I'll guess I'll try that. Thanx for your help.
BTW, your link was telenor site from Pakistan And I couldn't open it. Anyway I read several APN settings on Telenor Serbia site, for HD2, Desire, Desire HD, generic Android settings...parameters are correct. Also tried to change port to 9021 (it said that it is for older devices), with no luck....

Well, apparently your advice was the right one. I called call center, my MMS service was active. They deactivated and reactivated it, I deleted APN settings, did a restart, entered settings again and so far it works, even after few restarts....

Did you make the same mistake as me and try to open it on your desktop PC?
It states you must open the link in your mobile device

I am on T-Mobile, have used a half dozen different ROMS and have no problems with my MMS.
Your TMobile Data needs to be set on epc.tmobile.com
Then go to the SMS tab, all messages, menu MMS Options. Go to TMobile MMS Server, the server address needs to be as follows: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
Then select Connect via: T-Mobile Data
I have yet to have a problem sending a MMS using this.
try this one.
had tons of problems too, with custom roms. this cab fixed all of them. install after the auto sim configuration sets to tmobile. credit goes to the ChrisGrundy, maker of the timor tmobile 6.5 rom. also sets send recieve limits to 1000k, per current tmo limits.
(hopefully this isnt the same cab you already tried...)
edit:seems to only work with standard messaging program, previous post worked for me with manilla messaging app, but have to manually increase send/recieve size limit.
Thank you for that but im still not able to download a message or send.. it says that the notification is going to remain in the inbox... I guess i might have to switch roms which really sucks.. i really liked this one lol

The fix posted by benttwig (which I made myself) is supposed to be run after the HTC connection setup wizzard. Also, it's meant for use in the USA T-Mobile network.
Do those conditions apply to you?
I just now tried to run the fix after the connection setup wizard and it still does not work. I am sure im doing it correctly but its just not working for me.. I too have T-Mobile but I may be doing something wrong...
*** Well i just re flashed the rom and now the MMS is working.. Thank you for your help

MMS sending fails

I searched for "mms" and "multimedia message" but those came up with nothing, so...
There's been alot of talk about SMS's not getting delivered/sent on time, but I've never had any issues with those. However, today I tried to send an MMS...and it failed. A notification came up basically saying that the sending of the message had failed.
I checked the MMS server settings, and they were ok. I can see that the phone establishes a connection (which is configured properly, I checked), but it just cannot send the message.
Any ideas what might be the matter? Anyone else with the same problem? Can anyone confirm they have MMS working without problems?
Thanks
Same problem for me too.I also can not receive mms,it is connected,I am getting information that I got mms,but when I open it,there is no attachment, only information to download it,and if I try to do so,after some attempts it says "unable to download mms".Connection is ok.
I had the same problem. When I connected the mobile for the first time, the settings for my carrier were installed and I assumed everything was ok. But couldn't receive/send MMS or navigate in the internet.
What I did was to confirm in the website the settings and they were not ok. After I manually changed them, everything was working.
Yeah, I did check the settings for MMS server and also the connection that it's using, and they're both fine. Still, all I get when trying to send an MMS is that "unable to send message" notification.
I also contacted HTC today, and after making sure I had the right settings, they naturally asked me to hard reset. But I don't wanna... Maybe I'll just wait and see until the first ROM update (it had better come soon!) and if that doesn't fix it, I'll give 'em hell.
I did hard reset and it did not help...
same problem here as well , i entered mms settings manually but still no go
I have same problem, checked settings 10 times and reconfigured 5 times, still notnihg.
Alright folks!
I had the same issue, MMS wouldn't send or download on Vodafone UK. The solution was to go into the store and get a new sim card for the phone.
The guys in store checked the account was enabled for MMS and that the phone settings were correct before trying a new sim.
Hope the fix is as simple for you

I had the very same issue, as the MMS provision on my account was corrupt. Quick call to Voda and a post on their eforum got the issue fixed. The settings which my phone had already for the carrier were and are working fine.

in mms setings in field ip address you must put number like this

if you put like this 212.091.099.091 in won't work
you must put away zero
i don't now why but this is it

MMS settings for T-Mobile TP2 without data plan?

Just purchased a TP2 and completed the HardSPL and installed the EnergyROM. However I still can't get the picture messaging to work correctly. My previous phone was a unlocked Sony W810i which I'm able to send and receive MMS messages with no problem. I've tried to duplicate some of the settings from phone to phone but I haven't had good results. I didn't want to spend the extra money for the data plan because the phone has WIFI built in. All I want to do is be able to send and receive MMS messages. Can anyone help? Thanks.......Jason
go back to where you downloaded your rom and look for the mms settings cab and keyboard cab. nrg's energyroms always has a cab for it...
or you can do it yourself its easy
go to connections
select tmo mms
hit edit and change the access point to wap.voicestream.com
leave everything els the same way and save haha its easy
after having to flase a new rom every day(im addicted) you memorize it
Under the T-Mobile MMS I have
Server name: T-Mobile MMS
IP address: 216.155.165.50
Port number:8080
Server address:216.155.174.84/servlets/mms[/url]
Connect via: T-Mobile MMS
Message size limit: 300KB
WAP Version: WAP 2.0
Where do I enter the access point name?
This ROM does have T-mobile setup program but the settings for MMS will not work. I don't why I can't get it to work, I can send MMS on my W810i with no problems.

Yes, I tried setting up the MMS settings after the install. I was having this same problem before I flashed the the NRG ROM. I see that you have T-Mobile, did you have to install the CAB? Do you think I'm having issues becaus I don't have a data plan? I wouldn't think that would be the case because my old unbranded W810i works just fine when sending and receiving MMS. However that phone is not a smart phone. When you are in the connections tab what is the difference between My Work Net Work, and the standard T-mobile Data. Under my work netwok I have no connections set up. However I was reading a thread on a different forum that instructed you to setup a MMS connection under MY WORK NETWORK. I tried that, but it din't work. Also, everytime I try to send an MMS I get a message that says my current data connection will be stopped in order to send the MMS and then you have to select OK, is that normal? Sorry for the paragraph...this is driving me crazy.
did you go to start/settings/connections/connection setup and select your country and operator? that should have done the trick. if that dont do it then this is what you do. since the tmo mms .cab dosent fix it and your connections are set and it still wont work, go to tmobile.com and grab the 6.5 rom upgrade, flash it, soft reset,(this will set all your settings to tmobile network), try to mms and if successful, flash back the NRG rom and use the .cab for mms linked on his rom thread(also get the keyboard fix). it will take you about half an hour. if you dont want to do that then wait and see if someone else has a solution. theres 183 views on this thread and no one stepped in to give advise. i have unlimited everything with tmo and i have no issues with mms. hope you can mms soon...

I don't mean to slam you...too badly, but if you don't know how to fix this simple problem, you probably shouldn't be flashing roms. The fix was in the 3rd post, but obviously you haven't used Windows Mobile long enough to know what he was talking about, and you haven't searched for the answer long enough.
So with that said I will walk you through it.
1. Go to the Start Menu, Settings, Connections, and run Connection Setup. Ensure that you have selected United States for country and the operator is T-mobile. Click Ok. Then Yes.
2. Soft Reset
3. Go to the Start Menu, Settings, Connections, and open Connections.
4. Click on the "Advanced" Tab, select Networks, on the pull-down menu select T-Mobile MMS, and click edit.
5. The Radio tab next to T-mobile MMS should be selected, if not click it, then click edit and the bottom of the screen.
6. Click Next on the Name Connection Screen.
7. The next screen should be Access Point Name.
8. Change this to wap.voicestream.com
9. Click Next, on the next screen click finish, and the following click ok.
10. Change the box for "Programs that automatically connect to......." to T-mobile Data and click ok.
11. Soft Reset
I verified these steps as flashed the new version of NRG rom.

I appreciate your help, and I did try doing this before with 6.1, with 6.5, and with the NRG ROM. Maybe I missed a step or installing the MMS T-mobile cab screwed it up. However I did get it to work this time. Maybe I'm not a WM guru like you, but I'll be enjoying my NRG ROM now. Would you like to make a donation for your help? I know everyone gets tired of answering the same question over and over, however I have honestly been searching different forums and trying different fixes cabs etc.. Once again thanks for everyone's time. Too bad you have to get flamed for asking.

[q] cyanogenmod mms problem

I'm going crazy with the question of the MMS in this build of American Android. I'm from Spain and my phone company Telstra (yoigo). I tried everything I've read but can not send or receive MMS. The APN is correct. Not if the problem is the build or in Spain we have to change any line of buildprop. I would appreciate answering me to post it in my country.
Thanks
make sure max message size is not set above 300k
ROM default mismatch some APN data.
Try correct your APN data.
For example, in my case: MMSC rom defaul was h t t p://202.222.042.204:8002
but MMS only starts to work using h t t p://202.222.42.204:8002
Follow and type your APN data.(the correct one for your country and carrier etc)
Look carefully for any differences betewen rom default and carrier request.

The APN is correct. I have no problems with other builds. I come to think that only works in U.S.A. so I tried to change the DNS in the buildprop. This has not solved the problem. I connected and disconnected and have exclusive 2G connection on and off wifi as I read in a previous post. Neither works. Thanks for the reply. Can you think of something else?

i dont just mean teh message is actually smaller than 300k, i mean that the setting 'max mms size' is set to 300.
I cant find this particular setting in my rom, lol, but ive seen it given as a solution twice recently, I suspect the roms in question are using the tmobile 1000k default size, and those threads have reference to a max mms size setting in their mms settings screen.

MMS requires Mobile Data on
Hi,
I can send and receive MMS as long as Mobile Data is on. However, adding a MMS APN does not work; when Mobile Data is off, MMS can't be sent or received.
I've verified the Netcom Norway MMS APN settings to be correct, and this works on my LeeDroid 2.2.1 configuration. For Cyanogenmod, this does however not work. I've verified this both on my DHD (CM 7.0.0) and HD2 (CM7RC4).
Too bad, as I configured the HD2 for my gf, but she does not have a data plan...
Thor
I can also confirm on hy Desire GSM on Telstra running CM7 stable that you can only send/receive MMS if mobile data is enabled.
Can anyone say if this standard/expected behavior for Android roms on Telstra?
Today i had a problem where i couldn’t send MMS messages using my SGS Android phone. Im currently running Cyanogenmod nightly 181 so i went looking for a fix.
This is what worked for me:
1. Download root explorer (It costs a few $ from the market, but well worth it) or an equivilent and give it root priviledges.
2. Locate the following file, telephony.db: /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
and
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
3. Rename the file. (e.g xxtelephony.db.xx) or delete it (I deleted it)
4. Restart your phone
5. Now try sending an MMS.
That solved my problem and i can now send MMS messages again. This fix may also work for other roms, so give it a try if you’re experiencing problems.
I had the same issue in my Desire S (Saga) with CM7. Send/Receive MMS only with enabled Data APN. I tried to delete the telephony.db and restarted my phone. After the reboot mms works fine, but they set my Data APN back to default (i renamed the apn to be sure that the data connection is disabled). I renamed it again. After the reboot also the telephony.db is back.
My first test was positiv, i now can send / receive MMS. Hope that this will not change.

MMS Hell

Hi everyone,
I'm having big issues with MMS and my GSII.
I bought it from Expansys.
I live in Australia.
I've got it running on the Telstra NextG Network.
I haven't touched it in ways Samsung wouldn't approve of.
I can't send MMS messages.
I've rang Telstra many, many times and they set this up and I turned it on and off and they sent me settings and I turned it on and off and they walked me through entering the settings manually and they transferred me to the really technical team, as high as you can go on high priority.
They told me to pull out the battery and sim card without turning the phone off, and to wait three minutes and try again and if that didn't work, to contact Samsung.
Of course, it still didn't work, and, of course, I came here.
I hope you guys can help.

I'm not sure what information I need to give you that is helpful here, but I've taken some screenshots that may be related to the problem.
I'd really appreciate it if someone can help me out. I'm not sure what to do if I can't get MMSs to work.

Which error does your phone give you?
Server response error.
edit:
Just added the picture showing the error. Forgot that one first time.
I had that problem sending myself a mms. Server response error. On top of the fact that all mms coming in and out was a video instead of a picture with the stock mms.apk. I installed cm7 mms.apk and everything displays perfectly and i just sent myself a message.

Mine works fine and the only difference between my settings and yours is that I have authentication type for both Telstra Internet and Telstra MMS set to "PAP or CHAP". Try changing both these settings.
I have the same problem. After factory reset mms works for a day or two then the same error appears. I am on Rogers in Canada. All default apn/mms settings are correct.

How would I go about doing this? Sorry, I'm a bit of a noob.
Does it require rooting? I want to stay away from rooting until it's simple and fail-safe.

Try this: MMS "APN" Telestra.Internet and not Telestra.mms (since mms initiates telestra.internet
I had the same problem with T-Mobile and my sgs2. I think the problem lies with the messaging app as all was fine once I changed to go SMS, problem solved.
When I am sending MMS, I turn Wi-Fi off.
I usually add Topic/Subject and some text to my MMS.
This way my MMS sending works almost 90%.
Sometimes I have to delete MMS which is in "sending" status and try again. This way I got 100% success rate. I have no errors though. Try PAP on both Internet and MMS APN settings.
Have the same problem. Try to manually enter the phonenumber to the recipient. That works for me
hey guys, ive been trawling the internet for solutions and still cant get my mms to work (cant send or receive). has anyone got a working solution? i read somewhere that the galaxy s had a similar problem and needed a combined apn for internet and mms - does anyone have this?
(im on telstra in australia)
What a Nightmare
I also had this problem only SGS2. Bought from MobiCity and running in Australia on Telstra NextG. Unable to send MMS but all other SMS and internet working fine.
I looked up the Telstra website and entered their APN settings ... No MMS.
I looked up the Telstra settings on Ausdroid and entered these ... No MMS.
I found information on how to delete APN and put internet+MMS into a single APN as suggested for the original SGS ... No MMS. Grrrrrrrrr...
I used the Telstra website to SMS the APN settings direct to the phone ... No MMS and increasing frustration.
I sent an email to MobiCity telling them of my problem, as well as what I had already tried. They very helpfully sent me the Telstra APN settings ... which still didn't work.
I tried the suggestion mentioned here to type the phone number directly rather than use a contact from my Google contacts ... finally some success.
Then, thinking 'I'll be stuffed if I am going to lookup and type the number every time's, Installed GO SMS Pro from the Market, and it just works. Looks better, improved functionity including SMS scheduling. And Free.
It makes me think it is a problem with the stock messaging app. Anyway, thanks to the person who suggested GO SMS. Much appreciated.
I've was not able to send MMS to some contacts. It was the problem with spaces in numbers just like Outlook adds after the country code. I have cleared all spaces from numbers (via Kies) and now MMS works.
MMS error was something like 'cannot connect to server'. All settings for MMS was correct (like APN, ports, etc). SMS to a number with space works. Checked on 2 SGS2 with XXKE4 and XXKF2
I have a Hell of a nightmare as well with finding what I m looking for about MMS :
I want to change sending Priority to highest and can't seem to find a way in the SG2 menu or even with an app or MOD....
I posted a new thread on this issue.... : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16892768#post16892768
thanks for any help....
For all those who are on the Rogers network, I spoke to a tech rep yesterday and apparently it is a network bug that they are aware off and trying to fix. He said to try and input the contact numbers manually instead. I tried and it does work if you do it this way.
I am not on Telstra, but do you have the correct settings in the messaging app-settings-message centre/smsc ?
That was my prob a long time ago on my Sgs1.

I had the same problem. I had to remove the country code +61 from all my phone numbers for MMS to work. Standard MMS settings work just fine.
Big Thanks

I just wanted say a big thanks for this information. I don't have a Samsung but an HTC HD2 and it appears that I was the only person on Earth who couldn't send an MMS with my nandroid rom on the HTC HD2... or there were lots living without it. Your suggestion re "PAP or CHAP" has MMS sending perfectly on my phone with Telstra NextG. Reproduceable too as I now have my wife's HTC HD2 sending MMS as well on Telstra!
