Gone too far with root - please help - Galaxy 3 General

Rooted my phone, and went through deleted all stock apps that i never use. All was good until I decided Gtalk was no longer for me, so I uninstalled Gtalk and GtalkProvider I think they were called. I left Gmail and GmailProvider on but they seem to be codependant.
Has anybody got the APK files for the two Gtalks I mentioned, and can I just install them normally, or do they need to be installed to root> if so, how?
I know I should have backed up the apps first but just thought everything would be fine.

Use MagicIso, extract the factoryfs.rfs from the .tar file and open I'm in magiciso. Navigate to the folder and viola! You have your items back.

Re-install AccountAndSyncSettings.apk

I accidentally deleted the AccountAndSyncSettings.apk file. Does anyone have a backup of the file? Please help. Thanks in advance.
Snag it from a stock .zip rom in the development section. Just extract and find it (Same data structure as your filesystem).
i am also having the same issue. I have already found the stock rom from and moved the apk file with root explorer, but it won't allow me to install. Any input on how you solve this would be great.
Sorry for reviving the thread. Could someone post the AccountAndSyncSettings.apk and odex for the stock rom. I tried downloading the stock rom file but couldn't find the files that I need. Thanks so much!
Use the search feature, I posted this link for a pretty long period now.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?r1mrbtsep2k84kb
This includes AccountAndSync.apk/odex so remove that if you don't want it.
Thanks so much, I put the files back and it's fixed now. You're a life saver!
Menu
Did you get Accounts and Sync option back on your menu list under Settings? I have accountandsyncsettings.apk under the System/app folder but there is still no menu option.

Hi, could you explain how exactly you managed to re-install the .apk, because I already replace it, rebooted and tried installing it manually, but it wont install or show up in the list of applications under settings, and I'm trying to update OTA to gingerbread and it keeps saying that "AccountandSyncSettings.apk was not found". I would really appreciate your help.

need a file, please

hi, i deleted a file off my phone, and i would appreciate if someone can send me a copy,
the file is called packages.list in /data/system/
you can get it off the phone using,
adb pull /data/system/packages.list
it will be saved to your sdk tools folder unless you specify otherwise,
my email is ass.lovaratgmaildotcom
thanks
hmmm, i dont think so. Two reasons:
1) your gmail address is ass.lovar - yes im being srs lol
2) you don't need my list of installed apps
But what i will do is this, do a fresh flash of a rom and give you that..
that file doesn't get reinstalled with a fresh flash, but maybe it gets wiped, which i doubt it,
and thanks
Here ya go
I pulled it off of a fresh flash of CM6 with the Gapps installed as well.
But seeing as it is a list specific to your device I would recommend loading a recent nandroid if it messes anything up.
If I knew 'exactly' what the list did I'd be more help, but unfortunately I don't.
thanks a lot, i just cleared the file and put it on the phone, it doesn't look very important, but just in case,

Calendar.apk

Does any have the original(Elocity official) Calendar.apk, that they can provide?
At some point I must have deleted mine in favor of one that someone posted when DexterMod(1.31) has FC issue.
I have ran the official update.zip from Elocity and i have no calendar app.
Please provide Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk
Thank you.
throw it to ya in about 3 or 4 hours when the kids goto bed, if someone else doesnt beat me to it.
..figured out howto mount system.imgs (i'm still green in linux) now i'm set to extract anything ya want.

there is no calendar or calendarprovider.apk in the latest elocity firmware. that occurred to me earlier, as i recall there wasn't google calendar services available after throwin' gapps on the misses tablet.
i'm not sure if it would do you any good, as you indicated that 1.31 elocity firmware had fc's. i'm not sure if thats changed in 1.41, as i haven't compared the 2 versions.
but for fun, i zipped up an update zip containing the calendar.apk and calendarprovider.apk provided in dexter's 1.41 rom, but he did indicate that inserting his signed files shouldn't work on the official firmware. the rest of the gapps did work, so this MIGHT work too. it could also send you into a bootloop causing you to have to reflash your choice of dexter's firmware or the factory (there actually could be less destructive ways to recover using adb, but i may not have the time to assist with that if you're not already familiar with such steps).
my uneducated guess; should work based on my last gapps experiment. i can't test until saturday morning.
to note; 603 of the 692 files from dexters rom are factory, including some 44 system apk's (unaltered as a result of signing). kinda leaves me thinking you can add in the calendar files just fine to install, assuming you haven't tried to install them before. if you have, you may need to consult these troubleshooting steps first;
2.) Go into manage applications. Filter to all. Uninstall com.android.calendar.apk and com.android.provider.calendar.apk. Reboot again
3.) Copy Calendar.apk and calendarprovider.apk from this thread across to your SD card. Install both.
4.) If you want, use root explorer to move them from /data/app to /system/app but really not necessary. Reboot again, should sync by default but re-enable if you need to.

Code:

you can either rename that to update.zip and flash from recovery, or extract and copy the apk's by hand. whatever you're more comfortable with.
Thanks...
Copied both into /system/app... and clicked on them and it installed fine.
Thank you.

Got to system/lib/
Delete libSwypeCore.so
Rerun Swype installer.
you can use titanium backup to uninstall it.
then when you install it through the installer, it will show up in manage apps in settings.
Thanks jneal9 but I can not delete the file. I have Astro and File Expert. Neither worked.
Thanks funeralthirst. Was able to uninstall but I still need to delete the .so file
after much searching I found an alternative to root explorer- super manager. was able to delete the .so file
Thanks for the help. I learn something new everyday.

Try root explorer, astro can't access the file.
I was trying to install the lastest swype beta apk following almost all the steps above (I didn't erased the files, only renamed them) but wasn't successful, is there any other way? I'm using ES Explorer (with Root Explorer option checked)
The above mentioned steps worked for me:
-uninstall with Titanium
-delete the libswypecore.so file
I used Super Manager for the root explorer. Search marketplace for this. It's free and Root Explorer is not. In either of them you need to change the permissions of the file from r/o to r/w (read only to read write).
The thing with Titanium is that once before i've tried to install a new email app, so I used this Titanium to uninstall it first and when i've run the installer it showed "Application Not Installed" no matter how many times I excuted it, and this totally messed my phone up, I had to odin back to stock!
So, in this case is safe to unistall Swype and the installer apk won't give that error?
I make no guarantees but what is mentioned in this thread works. And, as I've learned the hard way, you should make a backup of your phone before flashing anything.
Follow the above steps. Not only remove the AOL but also the file"kinetoscope.so". Use root explorer or super manager to do this.
It seems like it's alot of work but once you have everything you need it goes fast. Searching for the answer is the hardest part.

ok 2 things
1. ES File Manager (Root explorer for free on market
2. when you uninstall Swype using Titanium Reboot phone before reinstalling Swype. Same with most applications. Rebooting clears out the temp files that can corrupt a reinstallation.
Hi,
I've only had an android phone for a month or two (Samsung Galaxy S2, 2.3.3 Gingerbread, not rooted)
I have the same problem removing swype with no 'uninstall' option (trying to update to new version). All of these solutions seem to require a rooted droid, is that the case or have I misunderstood?
Can anyone offer a solution that does not involve rooting?
Thanks!

If Swype came preinstalled you won't be able to remove it without root.
Thanks for your reply jneal9. Swype did not come pre-installed on my phone, I had to download the beta to be able to use it.
However, after I updated the Swype Installer (so that I could then update Swype itself) it gives the message "Sorry, the Swype Beta is currently unavailable for devices that have Swype preinstalled" (which it definitely did not).
Is this something that anyone has come across before? I'm a bit surprised that it seems like this application (although I do realize that it is a Beta) cannot be uninstalled without rooting the phone!
Thanks!
This also happened to me when i was on malice v5. i tried everything to get swype back but to no avail. i switched from that to miui because malice will soft boot while ur on the phone when u have 30% or less battery.
I had the same problems and hopefully this will help others: first I had tried to restore Swype from Titanium and got Force Closes. Then, I downloaded a new version of Swype and after deleting the old installed: "Application Did Not Install" then I went to /system/lib and saw that libswypecore.so was NOT there. So after many combinations of the above recommendations, I finally did this: deleted all traces of Swype, rebooted phone, used Root Explorer to change /system/apps to R/W, copied the latest Swype in, ran the install (success), then EXTRACTED the libswypecore.so from the Swype.apk and manually copied to /system/lib and changed the permissions to the recommended settings above. Worked! No Swype alerts me to a new version, I download within Swype, it asks to replace, I say yes, and the installation fails! At least the version I loaded still works.
