Hi all,
I was wondering if you had any info at all? I can see that version 3.14.206.1 is availible for t-mobile, orange etc in the UK, but good old O2 still show v 1.72.
I spoke to O2 today who said that they have version 3.14 live.
She sent me an email with a URL in it, but that URL goes to the download page on the HTC site for version 1.72.
I called back and the advisor 'Ben' I spoke to, and the technical team were all adament that O2 had made version 3.14.206.1 live weeks ago and it should be on the site.
I told them that I had been checking for weeks and had not seen it go live, and that I had not heard about it on this and other HTC forum sites. They argued that it was there and that HTC may have taken it down? Surely HTC will tell me to go away as I am not a direct customer of theirs and that I have a vendor locked phone and send me back to O2 for me to go around in circles again?
They now tell me I need to contact HTC direct as the link goes to their site. A copy of the email is below :
Thank you for your recent handset enquiry regarding software on your handset. Please find details of how to upgrade your handset software to version ROM: 3.14.206.1 below.
Visit the HTC website and follow the instructions.
Upgrade URL: htc . com /uk /SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=937&news_id=636 (sorry had to format it as it would not let me post URLS)
We hope this has answered your question. Please note that replies to this email will not be actioned.
As far I know the 3.14 O2 stock rom version isn't available jet. I know that O2 have update the rom for the HD Mini but for the HD2 nothing to find.
Well I really hope they pull their fingers out! If not I may have to put Android on it...
I have used O2 for over 8 years and they have always been slow to get ROM updates up, but in the last few years they have been terrible!
O2 (UK): 3.14.206.1, O2(Germany): 3.14.207.1
Maybe old news but just saw that 18.2.2011 a new HD2 O2 rom is being offered at HTC: http://tinyurl.com/new-O2-ROM-3-14
The latest o2 update is on the HTC website htc.com/uk/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1088&news_id=871
but as per usual im gonna miss that update as my phones being repaired
please let me know whether it makes the phone any faster thanks =D
hmm strange that it still doesnt show up on the regular support - hd2 - downloads list on htc.com
Typical O2 to be the last to release, and still get it wrong.
Mirror download link.
In case of; here you have a mirror download link of the; O2 (UK): 3.14.206.1
Thanks to the collaboration of samsamuel
Have fun.

No problems on mine.
thank you
Very true, for me it was actually a stepback, not an upgrade. My phone was very buggy for the entirety of the 3 days I had it on. I've downgraded to the 1.72 Rom I had before and everything is fine once again.

still got hspl installed?
I upgraded over a week ago. I'm very happy with it. No bugs apparent, and much better battery life.
Upgrade O2 to 3.14
I upgraded my 14 month old HD2 to O2 ROM 3.14.206 two weeks ago.
No problem with the upgrading process.
Since then my battery life has been considerably improved, the HD2 has been completely stable, and access to the internet using Opera 10 has been much better than before. I'm absolutely delighted!
Same here, excelent upgrade, in fact the HD2 is so good now that I do not spend more than 2 weeks playing with Nokia N8 and rush back to my old trusty HD2!
nice post thank you
just updated, wifi issues i believe but everything else seems fine
O2 ROM upgrade for a T-Mobile HD2
Hi all. I've got a bit of a problem in that I flashed my HD2 from T-Mobile to O2 after unlocking it to any network. This means that subsequent ROM upgrades are difficult to come by unless the file is posted here. When I visit the HTC site and attempt to download the upgrade, firstly I have to enter the phone's serial number which HTC have on record as being a T-Mobile unit originally. This kicks me out of the O2 ROM upgrade download screen.
Does anyone have access to the file that they could post here for me please. I'd be hugely grateful.
Very many thanks

[REF] Leo Official ROMs found in 6.5 rom development. first post first link, all teh stock roms are there,
your phone will always be rom locked to t mo. the htc website will never let you download anything but t mo roms.
since you have hspl, you dont need to stick to stock roms, you have already unlocked it for flashing custom roms.
There is a download link of the ROM in post 7

Hi guys, anyone know the way to overcome this?
How to upgrade to a higher ROM?
Even HTC's website won't let me downloading the ROM saying that the upgrade aren't for this device!!!
Please!
p.s. sorry I'm new to winmo...

use a gold card in sd slot or just install HSPL first
wtf is a gold card? i keep seeing people refer to it but never what it is, i imagine its a sim card with a toffee penny wrapper stuck to it lol
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591314
Basicly its a sd card with its unique serial number run though some software but as its no longer free just use hspl if you dont have a goldcard.
Forget about the goldcard, you don't need one so long as you have a copy of the original rom available, which you do. Hunt it out in the official roms forum. First post, first link, 1.43 section, its listed there. Thats your backup, then instal hspl and you can flash what you like.
Your HD2 is locked to o2 (UK) ROMs only so you cant put any of the official HTC ROMs or any of the custom ROMs from the "HD2 ROM Delvelopment" forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534
because of this your always be running out of date software as the phone operators are always so slow at releasing updates if they do at all.
BUT if you download HSPL from the above forum thread "[HSPL] HowTo flash everything"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
and install it to your phone your then be able to put on any ROM you like. Don't worry its near impossible to muck anything up and you can always put the phone back to its original rom, just do a little reading if your still not sure.
Great Guys! HSPL helped!!! I've upgraded...shame I can't manage to download Rom 1.66 as it always crashes and the download in general is sooo slow (not the internet issue)...but maybe with a bit of patience I'll get it at the end!
Cheers once again!!!

HTC have now listed a new ROM upgrade (1.72.206.3 released 27/04/10) for the HD2 on their UK support website (htc.com/uk)
Let me know how you get on with it as when I enter my o2 serial number I still get the error message you mentioned. I have sent a message to HTC support...just waiting for a reply.

all you o2 guys that cant down load have been able to get 1.66 from htc's site for months now this rom is purley for the forgoton few (like me) who got the phone as o2 launched and locked down (no wifi router etc) I ran this rom for a day and it nice and snappy fast but its still not wm 6.5.3 so i am back on touch-x again now the 2.07 radio in the o2 rom was quite ok in my area when I used it a few months ago but the 2.10 in my opionion is a match for recption with better battery life just my 2 cents hope it may help some of you
What about Virgin Mobile? Will they get a Rom Upgrqade???? they seems to have been left out of the loop even though they were the first (technically second) carrier of the phone.
Hi,
I have just bought a HTC HD2 from T-mobile to realise I can't upgrade the ROM through the official HTC website.
I would like to know from Virgin Costumers whether they have tried to upgrade the ROM of their HTC HD2 through the Official HTC website and whether it worked.
I am asking this because I am still on the trial period and also because of warranty issues if I try to upgrade trough another route apart from the T-mobile's...
So, the question is...
Have you got a HTC HD2 from virgin? Have you upgrade the ROM through the HTC website?
If it's vendor locked you'll need to flash HSPL to install a stock or custom ROM...see this thread for details:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
If I do install another ROM they say I loose the warranty...
As I still am in the trial period I could just return the mobile. But for this I need to know whether the HTC HD2 from virging is also branded or not... So I can go and get one from them and do the upgrades myself through HTC website... Withought loosing any warranty.
You can revert back to the original SPL/ROM if you need to return it for any reason...
As for the Virgin HD2, only way is putting the S/N into the ROM download page on HTCs support site and see if it allows a download. If not, it's locked
There's at least a dozen of threads about it. Don't be lazy and use search!
You won't loose the warranty, you can flash the phone back to it's original state in case you need to send it back for repairs.
You can download the original T-Mobile ROM from in here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717 so you can always go back if you need warranty work! I was reluctant to flash, but I did it from the original T-Mobile ROM and it has transfromed my HD2... I'm using MIRI 6.5 ROM and it is awesome, fast, stable, more RAM (with the right radio) and best of all, Youtube... GO ahead and do it. You think the HD2 is good now, wait until you unleash some of it's real potential....
Yes, that is why I am asking if there is someone who is a virgin costumer to help me with this...
I need to know if they have tried and what the outcome was.
About the warranty... The problem is that if I upgrade to another ROM and the mobile has a hardware fault that doesn't allow me to downgrade to the original ROM I suppose I would loose the warranty. This is a risk I may not want to take...
I have been talking to the tmobile technical people a lot after I realised I couldn't upgrade to a new ROM via HTC... Very annoying to know it is not possible whatsoever.
and as proof, I flashed mine back to the original ROM earlier this week. Search the ROM forum for posts by a member called 'football' who posted links to the TMo UK ROMs.
The flash back to the original ROM worked just fine, BUT it's a rubbish ROM so I'm back on 1.66
lol @ everyone pushing for the HSPL option, , , , lets not forget you cant uninstal HSPL if, for instance, the sd card reader has failed, , how would you get that fixed on warranty??
I'm not knocking it, HSPL is the first thing i did, just pointing out that restoring the warranty isn't foolproof.
in this post here a virgin user claims the phone is unlocked to the HTC website.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=632892
I didn't want to cause such turmoil...
Just want to know, from a Virgin customer, if they have managed to install the ROM update through the HTC website... if when they add their mobile serial number they are given the download option or they are barred with this message: "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
Thanks guys for the help
My son is on Virgin and his is unlocked out of the box I'am on T-Mobile (locked ) ) I am still deciding whether to update to one of the new roms on xda del. or hang out for an official rom from T-Mobile. Which I believe will be released soon with a big?????.

I had a flash fail this week. When I started the phone it booted to a black screen with some sort of warning triangle. Somehow HSPL had been removed in the botched flash and the SPL was back to 1.42.000, so putting a LEOIMG.nbh on my SD card just resulted in a 'Not Allowed' message being displayed.
However, I was still able to reflash the original TMo ROM from my PC via USB using the exe that you can find on the ROM forum. I would expect that this will only work with the exe for a ROM issued by your network though, so make sure you have that saved before you flash anything.

No doubt you flashed an official rom from the sd card, that is the only way HSPL can be removed. I really really advise people against using sd card for anything except your phones original rom. So easy to make an error.
Virgin UK HD2 is unlocked
I am a Virgin UK customer and my HD2 is indeed unlocked. When I first boot I had to select Virgin Mobile from a long list that included all the major carriers. I have no problems in updating ROMS. Their customer support is without doubt the best I have ever experienced. I do not work for them. My brother is with T-Mobile, his phone is locked down with Crap software. I am SOOOO glad I am not with them. Just check their forums. They are still on ROM 1.43 from october... no YouTube... other stuff missing and buggy... Disgrace.
Original poster: if you want the phone on contract from T-Mobile but unbranded, you could buy it through some third-party mobile-phone store chain like Car Phone Warehouse or Mobile Phones Direct. Their phones are all unbranded.
If you want to install the HTC ROM without using HSPL you could always use a gold card to flash it.

I must agree with the above. I am with T-Mobile, got my HD2 at the end of January and it had ROM 1.43. They also stripped out YouTube and Co-Pilot! I downloaded a poor-man's version of YouTube as discussed in other threads (i.e. using the IE browser on the phone to download the cab file) and thought I was cool, but with T-Mobile taking an age to release the update ROM (I have heard March, but I wouldn't hold my breath!) I decided to use HSPL and update to 1.66 from the HTC website. Best decision I made!
Not only are all the little bugs fixed, I know have the 'proper' YouTube app back (beautiful!), Co-Pilot (trial version) plus a Windows Task Manager app (very useful!).
I did alot of reading before taking the plunge though, and made backups of backups, had a roll-back plan (admittedly untested) and followed each stage implicitly! But it was very striaghtforward due to the guys on this forum doing a fantastic job!
I never made one call on my T-Mobile HD2 before I flashed over to stock HTC ROM.
Years of HTC devices and operators ROMS told me not to wait until later!

I did exactly the same!
As soon as I turned it on and saw that horrid T-Mobile logo, I turned it off again and flashed it with the HTC WWE Rom
After waiting ages there has finally been an update for the HD2s which are bought direct from O2.
The update is to 1.72.206.3, if anyone has any more details on it that would be great, but at the moment i'm just downloading and will give a shout back when i've tested it!!
I would post a link but as I'm a new user I'm not allowed, but just navigate to the support section on HTC's website and you'll find it there!!

THanks for the heads up.
It wouldn't let me D/L the ROM - on O2 and on ROM 1.43
I've got a mates S/N and its downloading now - nice to have in your back pocket should you need it

if it wont accept your serial number, then you have one of the rom unlocked o2 phones, so it wont work on yours anyway. (well, it will, but only if you HSPL it)
See my post in the other thread.
Sorry if other people have already seen this, I did a search and couldn't find anything. I just noticed that T-Mobile have released (via HTC) an official UK (and Germany and Czech Republic) a 1.72 version of the ROM for the HD2 on the 26th April 2010 (2 days ago).

Im installing now...where do I find that info ? biggest noob of em all
Is this just for T Mobile usres as the name sugests??
Im on O2, completely new to Winmo and smart phones at that!!!
Not rele sure what i need to do, but im trying to sort things out.
No to 3.5..... shocker
Manila 2012 but I can't see any differences over the former 1920..... please feel free to correct me
Personally, I can't see / feel many if any decent changes.......
If you install, your phone will be as you originally received it (save the updated software) so you will have to re-install everything...
If I had the previous 1.43 I would flash back...
I havent added anything as yet as i only had it since monday!!
Sorry to sound dumb, was is flash back??
Then you have nothing to worry about....
is there some sort of changelog for this?
please do report on what its like, particularly stability and messaging
then i might do my first HD2 flash...
i upgraded from original 1.43 stock rom and must say its a lot smoother than before, doesnt freeze up as much very little lagging.
no real difference in battery life, maybe a touch better but the main difference for me is that HTC messaging works instead of me having to rever back to wm messaging.
also, it came with .net 3.5 so i dont know why others have said it doesnt.
well im sold!
will DL and flash tonight!
thanks for the report jonyid
Any Ideas

What ROM are you using, as T-MobUK have only had 1.43 and now 1.72?
I am also with T-MobUK but I quickly dumped ROM 1.43, HSPL'd and went for the HTC standard WWE 1.66 ROM. Since T-MobUK 1.72 is WWE1.66 with T-Mob bloatware added, then there is no point updating.
If you really want the 1.72 ROM, I'll get it for you.

I recently upgraded my Tmobile 1.43 Rom to the new 1.72.110.4 from the HTC website. So far it seems to be ok. Not much of a difference: Solitaire and Bubble breaker have been added, You Tube, Bing search and one or two additions as well. Most importanly however is the performance of the HTC messaging program. I used PIM back toback up for my text messages, contacts, calender. Ugraded the ROM, (took about 10mins or less) and restored text messages from the back up file.
Restore process showed me 7000+ texts copied to the device. Restarted the device, checked messaging and got the "restoring messages" status bar. Took about 1 hour since then, I have noticed a marked improvement in the HTC messaging application. Can now continue using the phone even when a text comes in, can delete without having to wait ages for the device to start up again.
BTW I have some apps installed: TomTom 6, Swype, Skype, TCPMP player, Registry editor, etc.
Hope that information helps or encourages someone!
does anyone know if its possible to go back to the 1.43 ROM??? (just curious....)
Noob question here... as I have flashed my device and installed a custom ROM (or many) already will this take HSPL off my device? Will it be ok to do the normal install or will it brick my device?
I'm just trying to get my phone back to stock Rom levels as I need to return it to Tmobile and this is the only place I've managed to find the TmobileUK stock ROM.
Help? Please?!
Can anyone help with this at all? Please?!
I got a text message from TMobile today saying there is new software and new feature improvements for my HD2. I clicked on the website they gave me and here is what the pop up window says,:
" A software upgrade is available for HTC HD2 customers at www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade. Please be aware that after you upgrade the phone It is normal for the device to run slowly and the battery to drain at a higher rate for a short period of time. This is caused by applications that might be performing an initial sync, such as, Outlook or a personal e-mail account, or the device updating applications like weather and location. It may take up to four hours to complete all syncing.Important: Please read the steps on How do I perform a device software upgrade before moving forward. The software update is only designed to update the software version from 2.10.531.1 and 2.13.531.1 to 3.14.531.1.
The upgrade process is easy!
Download the new software to your PC. You will be instructed to enter the 15-digit IMEI number for your device to access the download.
Ensure ActiveSync 4.5 for computers using Windows XP or earlier or use Windows Mobile Device Center for computers using Vista and Windows 7 is installed on your PC. If you have not installed ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center, you can install it from your Getting Started CD or download it from the Microsoft website.
Connect your HTC HD2 MR to your computer using the USB Sync Cable that came with the phone.
Establish a connection. You will know this is complete when the ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center icon in your PC taskbar is lit green and the status is "Connected".
Ensure that your T-Mobile HTC HD2 MR has a battery charge that is greater than 50% (two bars).
Remove your MicroSD card from the device if you have one inserted. Do not reinsert the SD card until after the software installation process is complete and the phone is ready to use.
Run the software update program you downloaded to your PC and follow the on-screen commands.
Below is the list of available downloads. Please select the download of your choice.

So i haven't gotten any text from tmob yet so deciced to check and download it. well if anybody is wondering if the one released by tmob is different than the one released two weeks ago are different? the answer is yes. the radio versions are different, as is a few minor things. going to give it a few days to compare the two. the one released two weeks ago was the first time i ever stuck with a stock that long, and now going to give this a try.

Yeah, I did it but I don't know what's wrong: when I looked for the Software information, and checked the OS version, it's now like this: OS version: 5.2.21913 (21913.5.0.94). Is it Windows Mobile current version? Did ROM upgrade downgrade Windows version?
I know it might seem stupid, but I am really concerned...
Thanks in advance for help!
No, 21913 is one of the latest we've seen of COM2 line. If you had cooked one before then you had some bigger number probably, due to different branch...

The file is too large to post here. Check the development Forums for links to the stock ROMs. But it is really easiest and safest to go to HTC, enter your IMEI, and get the right ROM from them.
