What would you consider heavy usage? - EVO 4G General

I know a lot of people brag about great battery life, getting 20 hours or so of life, but really, unless you have a godly battery, I doubt with heavy usage you could get more than 6 hours of life.
I'm asking for opinions here, because I get about 2 and a half hours of Display usage before my battery dies.
Is this about normal? I'm sure the signal plays a part, as I average around 92 - 100 dBm signal in my city, which I know isn't very good.
I turn off my 3G whenever not in use, I have display set 30% brightness, auto-sync is off, gps, bluetooth, and sometimes I put the phone in airplane mode when signal is weak.
My point is, even with all the battery saving tricks, I get about no more than 2 hours and 30 minutes of Display usage, regardless of whether I'm playing a game or using the browser.
Running CM7, with Conservative, min 245, max 998 MHz as well, stock kernel.
What do you guys get?

Hit up the sprint CS chat. Complain about battery life. Ask them if they can comp you an extended battery. Took two tries but a csr refunded my battery purchase in full. In my case I bought first then asked for refund. Worst case you could just return it

i get about 3 hours screen on with stock and double with my chinese extended battery.
they're both more than enough for a full day. i dont see how i would be bored enough to be using my phone screen on for 3 hours in a whole day anyway haha.
i think some people consider playing music for a long time a "heavy" use of the battery which in my opinion isn't true. playing music barely drains anything when it's on for a few hours even with 3g.
but yeah i dont think the stock has enough juice for screen on more than 3 or 4 hours. i get 20 hours usage frequently but that doesnt mean the screen is on the whole time. in a day i probably play half an hour of games read news on the bus for 40 min to and back. read some news browse the web during lunch and listen to music throughout the day.

My opinion. About 100 texts, 15-20mins of angry birds 4G on, lots of web browsing. That's heavy usage.
With stock battery I get about 5-6hrs of heavy usage. On Myn RLS5 with #15 kernel. Moderate use (4G off but wifi on, no angry birds) I can get about 8-9 hrs with stock.

mmm... i dont use 4g so can take that out. I send about 300 texts, web browsing games all that stuff. get about 4.5 hours of screen on.

Heavy use to me is prob checking Facebook and twitter at least 3 times an hour. Receiving 2-5 email an hour from 2 different accounts GMail and Exchange. Playing Angry Birds, The Sims 3 and Bistro cook around an hour combined for all of these.
Reception at my job is not that great so I get around 4-6 hours if I am using it a lot. If I turn off the 3G when im not using it then I can get much more life out of my battery.

bad reception = crap battery

My 'heavy use'
usually everyday I have work which is 4-6 days a week.
Over 350 texts a day (incoming and outgoing)
3 hours total gps/navigation
about 20-30 mins of total talk time
oc'd to 1.228ghz
about 2.5 hours of 4g ON
gps on entire time
live wallpaper always on (nexus revamped pro, fps is at 32, speed at 150)
used multiple apps (psn, xda, mx moto game, setcpu, 7 widgets total)
use flashlight app on high settings for maybe 1 min total time
screen brightness is always at 100%
I get anywhere from 7-9 hrs total time unplugged, I usually have about 10% left when taking these numbers.
I bet I could get a pretty good number if I underclock and turn auto brightness on.

My heavy use:
Get to work at ten
browse almost nonstop
text in between
youtube a few times
...on the charger by 2

Like someone else said, low reception kills batts.

3+ hours a day of Words With Friends.
Guilty as charged!

I get 4.5 hours every day of listening to Mike and Mike in the morning on the new ESPN radio app. I also check facebook several times...and get a few texts. But im sure the 4.5 straightforward hours of streaming is what does the damage.

I stream Radioio.com on my phone for about 5-6 hours a day while I'm at work.....I have the extended battery...and when I get home, I have to toss it on the charger Good thing I have unlimited data....

What rom are you running. Op is on cm I heard it was hard in the battery as is. I finally upgraded to a extended battery. The extra size isn't bad and you wont regret doing it.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk

Pull phone of charger at 12pm. At work at 2. Battery at 90 something percent. Forums and browser non stop til almost 3 to which I gotta put it on charger. Oc'd at 1113 on rls 5 with kings #11. I don't talk battey as its non existent. Lol

I assume the bad reception must be the worse offender to my battery. I wasn't complaining or anything anyway, I was simply curious.
I have the stock battery, and 2 extra batteries for heavy usage. I primarily use my phone at work, as sometimes business is very slow and I rely on my phone entirely too much for entertainment.

I've been told my usage is moderate to heavy:
MikFroYo 4.5
MS79723's SBC #15 v7
Slayer's Cyan Dragon Theme
4g always on
gps only on when using Foursquare or Maps, otherwise off.
200-300 texts
5-10 minutes of phone calls
1/2 to an hour of angry birds
half a dozen feedr news widget articles I'll use the browser to read
30 minutes of general web browsing
Check e-mail several times
check calender once a day
Stream some music on Subsonic (only when I'm in the car but I have a car charger so I don't count this).
Check fantasy hockey leagues three times a night when there's games on
Check facebook/update status many times
Sometimes I'll use wireless tether and there's a chuck norris app I'm fond of, but that's not everyday. The kernel undervolts, I don't keep my screen on unless i'm doing something and with the SBC I get normally around 12-17 hours a day if I don't tether or dilly dally too much. Since I have a car charger and I charge at home when I'm in the shower or sitting at my desk, my phone rarely drops below 50% on my average day.
If I were in an office, I'd connect the phone to charge to my computer and the car charger has been invaluable. I highly recommend charging it whenever it's just sitting there (even if it's streaming something).
That's how I get through my day

For those wondering about battery life

I have this phone and the Nexus one. I can't tell you for sure what real world use gets you, but here's what I found today.
I had a class to go to. I took my MT3GS with me to the class. I have the HTC Flip Clock, as well as twitter, my texts, GPS on and minimal use during the breaks, and Silent Time Pro keeping it silent. I got home and my phone was at 96%.
My Nexus was left at the house. It has Beautiful Widgets updating the weather every hour. It has no facebook, no twitter, nothing that will sync other than my email. GPS and WiFi were off, as was the display. The only thing running on the phone besides beautiful widgets was Silent Time Pro. When I got home, I checked my N1, and it had fallen to 69% with absolutely no usage while I was gone.
Like I said, I dunno what real world use would get you on the MT3GS, but it seems far superior to the N1 at this point. All things considered, I think the N1 even with the faster processor should have fared better, as it wasn't used and basically nothing was on, as opposed to the MT3GS having GPS, a few things syncing, a few texts, and more programs running in the background.
This (to me) either means that A) The MT3GS manages power better OR B) Beautiful Widgets takes up far to much processor and battery power. Maybe I'll test it on my MT3GS later this week when I have some time off and see.
Anyway, there's my opinion. Take it for what you will.
I'm running the HTC flip clock, a few toggle widgets, the FeedR widget, Taskiller widget, and a calendar widget, and from fully charged to the end of my work day (few songs, few youtube vids, some texting, browsing facebook, etc etc) by battery is at about 25 percent.
I hate to say it, but my old Motorola Cliq would play Pandora through my entire work shift and still leave me with as much or more battery life than the slide does.
Honestly, not impressed with battery life so far.
My battery life has been ok, not great, some facebook, some twitter, a few hundred texts. some interwebbing. I can get around 10-12 hours from a charge it seems. which in my opinion is crap lol. i had a rooted cliq before this that was running only the basics in the background(killed all the bloatware and extra crap), i could get almost 2 days outta that thing.
I thinks once we get root and kill all the bloat and stuff running in the background, battery life will go through the roof. A vanilla 2.1 or 2.2 will prolly do wonders for battery life.
just my 2 cents

I almost feel like raising my hand and calling bs on 2 days with the cliq'r but i dont know you.
the cliq i used would get about 10 hours with use and 19 or so without use.
my g1 would get about 9 - 18
the mytouch 10 - 18
the old garbage samsung flip and sony flip phones 2 - 3 days.
this slide im averaging 10 - 12 with heavy use and 17 - 19 without much use.
keep in mind only had it for 2 - 3 days since release date but i did drain the battery and recharge it a few times the first day to break it in.
so far id say its about average on battery life.
i charge overnight
then either while driving, or working
then i connect to pc at home
with a full battery in the morning
and a slight top off mid day i never run out of battery life.
Hehe with my cliq I only had only the essentials running(there's a few custom roms out). So it went for almost 2 days. You can get the roms off modmymoto forums if you wanna check em out. The key to the cliq is killing motoblur =). Pm me if you want info shadow
I'm happy with battery life. First day I played with a lot, browsed a bunch and installed many apps and got around 12 hours(most I'd ever get from G1). Today I'm going on almost 24, took it off the charger at 4am after letting it fully charge, didnt start using it till around 10am and at 10am the battery still read 100% which I thought was wrong. Right now its at 17% (still havent gotten the 15% warning) at 1:30am, I'm sure it'll make it till 4. Sent around 50 text today, installed around two apps, and didnt do much voice talking or browsing but I did at least a good 30 mins worth from both. I periodically kill all with advanced task manager (except sense).

Amen. I carry a 3 in. USB to Micro USB cord that charges me at home, in my car and at work.
Those that are disapponted by the battery life are being unrealistic with their expectations. Power is too easy to come by to waste time *****ing about it. Makes you look too lazy or good to plug it in.

I purchased mine yesterday, and it sat on the charger overnight, and read a full charge in the morning.
6 hours 42 minutes later, it gave me a "battery life is at 26%" warning. WiFi, bluetooth and GPS were all off (all day)
I have it setup to check my email and facebook, but I had my Kaiser doing that and more for 2 days at a time with a smaller battery...
Usage-
55% Display (was set to auto)
32% Voice calls (20m 21s)
9% cell standby (6h 44m 59s)
4% Phone Idle (5h 10m 4s)
This seems absurd! If tomorrow doesn't do better, I'm taking it back.

.Realistic ... I never expect an electrical device that CONSTINTLY draws power to have a great battery, I dont race my car all day or let it idle in my driveway and wonder why theres no gas in the tank. a battery holds a resorce that regardless if yo like it or not .. will deplete over time. Advanced task killer is a great tool to get rid of th7e programs rnning in th7e back grond. to save batt life.
.Sorry for any mispellings, my laptops keyboard is taking a crap on me after it got rained on last night.

I don't think my expectations were high. Most people outside our community think "only a day" is bad battery life. I expected to be able to make it through 1 day without going dead. Being 3/4 drained after only ~20 minutes of talk time is absurd, especially since I didn't use the web or IM, etc. Just POP3 email every 30 minutes, and I uploaded 4 or 5 photos to facebook.
No Wifi, bluetooth, or GPS...
I just wanted to come back and reply now that I've had a couple days to play with the phone. I've been using it for about 16 hours straight now, quite a few texts, 5-6 short phone calls, and maybe 20 minutes of 3G usage, I'm at 66%. I haven't had this phone on the charger at all.
On the other hand, my Nexus, which has been on the charger all except maybe 2 hours in that same amount of time is already at 88%.
I think we have a clear winner in the battery life category. At least from my tests.
I am certain now that I have a defective phone.
I killed all running tasks, manually logged out of all IM clinents, etc, and then took it off the charger. I've made 12 minutes of calls today, it's only been unplugged for 4 1/2 hours and it's at ~%60 battery life.
12 minutes? Thats got to be a defect.
But, they are apparently out of stock... I might end up with a Touch Pro 2 or a HD2 after all...
Definitely not right .. I'm at 85 percent since 9am (7pm now), light use again though but its stand-by time is impeccable.. try and get another one, I can tell you the HD2 battery life is much, much worse, my father got it at the same time I got the slide and he's charging 2x a day. Mind you this guy would go the entire day with bluetooth, wifi, and gps on his G1. Oh and the usability of windows, well its just blah.. not trying to be biased at all. I have my brightness at 30 percent, syncng gmail only, and for widgets I have the curvefish battery widget, pure calander widget, power widget, and audiomanger. No bluetooth, gps or wifi on.
Have you tried going into the about phone in settings, and seeing whats draining the battery (click battery use)? See what cell standby is. Are you using 3g? May I suggest downloading anycut > new shortcut, activity, phone info. From there, open the short cut and you can adjust if you want 3g only (wcdma) or edge (gsm) only. Try setting it at one of the only settings, your phone might be dropping and picking up signal.
First post here, Hello World!
I have had mind for almost a week now. At first I was averaging about 1/2 day on a full charge. This was with Gmail syncing, no WIFI/GPS/BT on. Mild surfing, about a dozen SMS and 15 minutes of talk time.
I installed Advanced Task Killer and set it to shut off my apps on screen close. I am now able to go 17 hours ( a full day for me ) and I still have 15% left. This was with BT on for about 30 minutes of talk time, WIFI on for about 1 hour at the office, GPS on for clock/weather updates every 3 hours.
Overall, I am happy with the battery life on this device now. I am wondering if it took a while for the battery to calibrate and ATK helping with running apps.
I love this phone!

Sounds about like me. I don't use my phone to call much (go figure) but I listened to 15 min. of music, logged onto facebook for 10 minutes (3g) and sent probably 15 texts, and I was at about 65% in the 5 hours I had it unplugged.

Here's a question, Did you all plug it in and let it charge to full when you got it BEFORE using it?
Sure did. Ive made that mistake before, but I do that with all phones now, even though with a lithium battery, it shouldn't make that much difference.

Yea, I guess im just superstitious but I always do that with a new device. Have you tried recalibrating the battery? Charge to full, leave plugged in for like an hour after it says it's fully charged, wipe battery status, reboot, use normally? (if you can wipe battery status int he menu's without root) I'm picking my MYT3G slide up this weekend so I don't know if it can be done or not yet.
i think the battery life is great, i take the phone off of the charger around 9am. while im at work from 11aM-7pM i check my updates every hr or so. from 2-330 i listen to music also on my way home(7-8) and when i finally get back home round 8ish my battery is at about 58% then around midnight i get the 30% message. around 130-2am its at about 12% so i get 17hrs with medium usage
My battery life isn't too bad. 17+ hours since unplugged of moderate use (but only like 1% left): Display 41% (on Auto), Wi-Fi 25% (worked at home, kept on wifi for data instead of 3G), Voice Calls 22% (35 minutes; 14 calls), Standby 8% and Idle 4%. I think if you're more active in process management, it will help with life. I also just switched Brightness from Auto to a manual setting of about 20%. I un-synced Tweet and Weather and am running very few widgets, but keep GPS on. My K9 Mail syncs on an hourly basis and Gmail with Calendar and Contacts auto-syncs. Overall, MUCH better than G1.

Suggested setup for amazing battery life

hi guys/girls,
i wasn't able to find any sort of thread pertaining to what setup everyone is running for the best/worst battery longevity so i figured i'd at least post up how i have my phone setup in order to pull off a full workday/night and about lunch/dinner time til i have to absolutely recharge my phone (30-35hrs max). maybe if it helps someone get the most out of there battery between charges then great. so here we go...
how i use phone:5-10 incoming emails daily (hotmail/aol)
200ish texts/day (incoming/outgoing combined)
1-2 hrs or so internet browsing/zooming in out
1 hour talktime daily
listen to 3-4 hrs of music on sd card at work
signal strength 3-6 bars at all times
what i have running/not running:
gps off
wifi off
network on
1 min backlight on
full animation on
auto brightness on
vibrate/sound on for calls and notifications on
volumes for sounds set to 3/4 or so
no task killer installed
facebook/friend stream off
weather sync on
google sync on
news sync off
stocks sync off
foursquare on
i personally charge off a usb off of my computer when phone hits about 5% or so. so maybe that is charging it slower and not wearing out the battery cell? i've read that the slower the charge on a battery the better, correct me if i'm wrong. my phone has had no adverse effects and has not bogged down once. i hope maybe this will help in some way to narrow down what may be causing some users phones to die faster.
maybe have others post their setups to see a trend would that help?
I pretty much have gps, wifi/4g always on if I'm at school or home, and auto sync and I get 10-14 hrs. Yesterday I went from 8am to 1am and battery was around 55 percent but I didn't use my phone like I usually do. Regular usage usually nets me about 10% an hour.
Each day I probably send around 200 texts, read forums, google reader, and pulse in total of about 3 hours and play about an hour or two of games.
I use to use juice defender app but I did some testing over a week and it doesn't help at all imo.

most battery monitors or battery saving apps actually have the opposite effect, especially the battery monitors. They're using power to monitor the battery condition, so they tend to do more harm than good.
Yea o was using a battery widget for a week or so and it seemed like it used more battery than it was worth. I try to run my phones as lean as possible and only use what I need when I need it.

Seriously?!
As far as I'm concerned thats borderline amazing. How in the h-e-double hockey sticks are you guys getting such great battery life? My phone doesnt hit that and all I really do is IM and browse the web maybe a combined total of 5 hours a day and thats pushing it.
01/27 update...another update if anyone is keeping track...pulled phone off charger at 8am now its 11:30p (16 hrs+/-)..45-50% battery left...also realized i left gps on with navigation running for 2 hrs from lunch earlier in the evening and prolly sent out 50 texts in last few hrs since last battery status update and looked at pics with a co-worker...so yea so far the setup above is bringing some good results for me.
01/28 update...its 2pm (30 hrs later), and phone just beeped at 15% battery left. finally ut it back on charger so i have a full battery for work. so there you have it folks. pretty nice battery life if you ask me...been texting and calling for the last 2-3 hrs today too which triggered the battery beep.

try recalibrating the battery...basically let it die all the way to the point where it wont even turn on anymore...then I like to remove the battery for like 30 secs or so but im not sure if its actually necessary...then plug it back in and let it charge all the way til the led turns green...then take it off the charger and turn it on....did that and i noticed a big difference especially after a day or two

New to Nexus S, Battery Life experience

I just grabbed my Nexus S on Sunday, and I have quickly rooted it, and installed NSCollab's Rom 2.3.3 with the Netarchy Kernel. I have been off the charger since 4:45am, and it's 3:00pm now. I am at 62% remaining.
I have made 10 phone calls, sent 20 text messages, downloaded some apps, and I have received 30 emails. My phone usage is normally heavier, but this battery life is a good sign so far.
My day will end at 9:00pm, so I can double my usage for the next 6 hours and still have at least 16% left at 9:00pm tonight. Not bad.
That would put me at 30 calls for the day, 60 text messages, and 90 emails. That would be a heavy day for me.
JOHN
Yep this phone has really good battery life. Yesterday I was out all day for 15 hours and when I went to sleep I still had 23% left.
Lasts me the entire day from 7am to 11pm with regular use. Texting. Res feeds. Email. Usually at 20% by the end. Its good.
I'm now very impressed with the battery life too. I got mine with 2.3.2 and had the bug where the processor was held at 100% unless USB debugging was enabled and battery life was adequate. However, 2.3.3 has sorted this and I'm now using a completely black wallpaper and with my usage profile I'm comfortably getting a couple of days between charges.
The only niggle I've got at the minute is that if I'm using Google Nav with GPS enabled in the car with a Samsung charger the battery is still draining slightly faster that it charges. After a 3 hour drive (while on charge) I had still dropped 5%.

I have just noticed the same issue and have posted a query in the accessories forum. I have got a cheap car charger off eBay and assumed that an official Samsung car charger would charge faster .i.e like a mains charger. But you already have the official charger and that is pretty disappointing. Looks like there is no solution for this problem.
Yeah, NS has the best battery life out of all android phones(G1,MT3G,N1,Vibrant) I've owned. I usually unplug at 7am, 2 X 1hr train ride playing Dungeon Defenders, a few calls, app updates, and it's usually still above 40% when I plugin at 11pm.
Is this usage with the samoled model or the sclcd? I gather the samoled is the better of the two in terms of battery life?
Actually many people feel the slcd gets better battery life over amoled. I certainly believe that.

You have to mod the cable/charger, you were most likely charging at max 500mA limited by USB standard. Either short d+/d- on your cable or charger, NS will then detect it as charging from AC and draws higher current.
Batt life is good if you have your notifications and sync updates (fb,twitter, pulse,News genie etc) set to maximise batt life. Try inverting your browser and also use a dark wallpaper if you're using cyanogen ROMs
I'm an extremely heavy user (play pocket legend and pro evolution soccer extensively thru the day, always on GPS, whatsapp, gmail , winamp running, if i'm not playing a game, i'm reading some article online).
I can only last 5-6 hours on 1 charge. My office and car has a charger though so it's all good. I can stretch to 15-17hrs if i avoid gaming altogether and limit my data usage but what's the point...hahah
My battery struggles to last an entire day. Maybe 30 texts, 1 or 2 calls, no facebook or twitter updates, listen to an hour or so of pandora and maybe 15 minutes of web browsing, and I am in the teens or single digits by bed, and thats on a 14 hour day. I use a pure black background.
How are you all getting so much better battery life? Are you rooted?
Yea, my battery is not so great. Very little use today. Maybe 20 text's and 15 minutes of web. I have the stock ROM and launcher pro with fb & twitter widget (friend widget in launcher pro) set to update every 3 hours and beautiful widgets updating every 3 hours as well and I can get about 13 hours with very little use. Does launcher pro really take that much juice?? Don't remember it doing so in the past. hmmm
launchers dont typically use that much power
i get a couple of days out of mine easily, normal usage each day is around 2 hours listening to music on bluetooth headphones, 1 hour reading pdf's or playing games (angry birds at the moment), a few calls/texts, a bit of browsing and gmail, yahoo, twitter syncing (though i use green power to schedule 3g data every 15 mins).
Today was a lighter day for me...only 20 mins with the display on, a couple of calls/few texts/couple emails and bit of data but 2.5 hours of music over a bluetooth headset. After 16.5 hours i am at 62% remaining.
this is stock 2.3.3 using ADW Launcher but rooted and unlocked bootloader
Makes me wonder if there is something wrong with mine...
I hate having to consistently think to "get off my phone" just so that the battery will make it until I get home from work. I have one day left to swap the phone out for another through best buy, has anyone else done this and seen vasts improvements?
My battery easily lasts all day doing standard text emails calls etc. A black background really helped. Used the one in launcher pro. Just started using set CPU and overclock/underclock profiles. So we will se if that helps/hurts.

On CM7 RC4 I'm getting insane battery life. I moderately use it throughout the day(checking social feeds, texting, music, light web browsing) and I get about 18+hrs, possibly even more because I never let it drop it 0 and it was at 20% with 17hrs+

Almost 30+ hours == EC01 + SuperClean 2.9.2

I again wanted to say thank you to all involved in making the Fascinate the best phone it can be.
I have instantly noticed a considerable battery life improvement using this radio.
Just thanks.
And juice defender doesn't hurt either..
You must not be using your phone at all, mine only gives my around 7 hours.
Really? Only 30 hours? My white fascinate could go for 3 days with light usage and 2 with moderate. I bet you it could last for 4 days if I didn't do anything but text or call people. Oh and don't use battery apps, they don't do crap honestly. The only thing that kills your phone is games and the screen being on. But if you use your stock Froyo task manager then you're good.
I am confused a little but mostly dissapointed in how people report usage and battery life around here. I think for the most part it is simply a result of how subjective the term "use" is defined in all it's various "states". For instance what I consider "heavy usage" might be beyond what a lot of people would consider to even be reasonably expected. On the other hand you can have another person who thinks using their phone once for a few minutes every hour is heavy usage. Some seem to be reporting standby time like it is normal usage, which depending on your definition could be true. Some people seem to be obviously "lengthening" their "epeen" for some unknown sad reason which is the part that is dissapointing.
I can say, once, I left mine on after using it all day Friday, set it on a table at home and I can't remember why but I didn't touch it again till Sunday afternoon. It literally only used a few percent battery life. This is abnormal usage to me. This might be "normal" for some people.
Some people like myself are device addicts. I don't go anywhere without my phone. I rarely make calls on it. I rarely use my powerful desktop for any casual pc use like web surfing, IRC, listening to music, personal gmail and work email via exchange. I do all of that on my phone. My day consists of picking up the phone fully charged at 7:30am, at work by 7:45, and then once in my cube the headphones get plugged in and between voodoo sound and power amp I get pretty lost in the tunes. All the while I am getting constant email delivery notices. I probably look something up on my phone a few times a day. It is on wifi all day at work and home.
Once home I stay on it after dinner....once the kids are away, the wife and I sit in the living room and she on her laptop and me on my phone we kinda watch shows together while surfing or whatever. So hours of constant use in the evening. My screen is on a lot because I don't go long without doing something on it.
I have recently been getting around 14-18 hours if I run it to dead on the 2.9.2 + latest Voodoo sound enabled kernel floating around but was on eb01 radio. I flashed ec01 radio tonight hopefully to see better battery life but there's no way in hell I would be expecting anything close to 30 hours or days!? Not unless I laid my phone down and walked away for a few days, then sure. I consider myself to be a fairly heavy user.

In my case Syn Ack is right about the screen. This past weekend I gave my phone a real test. I put EC01 on, got rid of most of the bloat and left the phone in that state. Didn't install any extra apps that would run in the background. Only had 1 home screen with nothing on it but a black wallpaper. The phone looks boring as ****. lol
From what I saw, the only things eating battery was having the screen on, a small bit of time with no signal, followed by android system and any other apps I may have used which didn't make up much compared to the screen.
I love the screen, but it's like a high maintenance girlfriend. Its sucking the life outta this phone.

That's pretty much par for the course. The screen is always the biggest battery drain in any phone out there, out of any piece of hardware in any phone. Trying to keep the screen's brightness as low as possible, and it off whenever you don't need it on, are probably the best things you can do to improve your battery life (followed by deleting crappy widgets like the Facebook one that keep your network up constantly).
Then again, I set my screen to have a 2 minute timeout, because the 15 or so second default way too often caused the screen to turn off on me while I was reading something and I generally use the power button to turn it off when I'm done. I figure, as long as I can make it till night, that's good enough for this phone 95% of the time (the other 5%, I can generally plan ahead).
I honestly don't see poor battery life as in issue for this phone.
Mine will last for 3 days of extremely light usage, 2 days with light-ish usage, and if I hammer on it and play some games, 14 hours or so, it'll beep at me.
IMO, this is not an issue. I have seen the battery life increase with the latest updates (OC Kernel from imnutz, SFC2.9.2, EC01 radio) - and I was happy before.
I also don;t think that you can really count on what other people see as anything but a hopeful ballpark figure. We all know that each of the phones HW is a little different. We all know that our setups vary greatly. We all know that we use the phone differently.
So, hoping that something will be a be all, end all guide as to how long your phone will stay powered depends on so many variables that you have to tweak it for your use.
FWIW, I run live wallpaper, 7 screens and use OC steps up to 1400 and I am very pleased, dare I say impressed with the life I get out of the phone. I also keep a spare battery fully charged - I guess this helps me care less and just ooh and ahh when it lasts more than a day.
Mine gets 150 hours...... Turned off.

With the phone sleeping (screen off), my battery drops at MOST 2% per hour. I don't use but a couple of widgets, Facebook and weather. My sync time for Facebook is 1 hour and weather is 2 hours.
For me, when I was referring to my 2-3 days of battery life:
Light usage (3 days): a few phone calls a day, < 25 texts, no internet, no market, no games, no battery control apps except using Task Manager wisely.
Moderate usage (2 days): regular phone calls, < 50 texts, some internet, maybe a game or 2 but not for long, Task manager.
Heavy usage (1.5 days): regular phone calls, texting all the time, heavy internet, games, rom flashing, playing music a bunch.
Super ridiculously heavy (1 day): phone/text/internet/games/music, all nonstop heavy usage.
Super light (3+): Data (3G) off, a couple calls, light texting, using Task manager wisely. It can happen...
One thing I have come to find out is that not only your screen is the number 1 factor but if you live in an area that phases your phone in and out of 3G very often, your phone could easily drain 10% per hour. The IT building here on my campus has god awful reception and it drains at 10% per hour but when I go home I only see 1-2% not doing anything at all. Wifi is a battery drainer too.
There were a few nights where I remember hitting task manager and clearing out every single task and everything possible running, turning off data, and turning the screen off and the phone did not even lose 1% of battery over 9 hours. Perfect reception.
So if you see terrible battery, try using your screen a little less, or turn down the brightness. Try a *228 for your radio towers update. Cell standby can you get hard if you're in bad reception.
The best thing you could do to save your battery is kill all of your tasks, turn off data, turn your screen off, and change your sync intervals to 1hour+.
i'm on ec01 for about 12 hours now, sFc, in nemesis OTB kernal underclocked using volt settings gives me about a 8 hours with the amount of usage I put it through. Serious wifi, network usage, processor spiking and multi-tasking. Overall what one would expect from android.

Heavy user, this seems about right. Your battery goes from 100% to what % before you recharge?

Focus S Battery Life?

How is the battery life of your Focus S? I tend to do a lot of updating and some streaming, I am not getting more than 10 hours. Very low, but I as I said, I update a lot of apps and feeds, so I assume if I lay off it will be better. How is your battery life?
yesterday was the first full day i had with it, and i took it off the charger around 11am and when i got back at 330am, it still had about 30% left.
and it was a moderate to high moderate day of usage for me (listened to podcasts in the car for about 2 hours total, music at work for about 2 hours, updated posts, read facebook/twitter/websites, played some games.
i also have okay to poor reception at work, so that probably didn't help battery issues when i moved into areas with poor reception.
so in conclusion, i'm quite happy with how well it's holding up so far, as good as the original focus i had, if not even better.
Hmm right now with pretty high use, I have 10% left and thats because it went into battery saver mode like 1.5 hours ago. I took it off the charger at 7AM, it's 4:47PM now.
Seems to be the same as the Focus. Need to have several recharging cycles before a determination can be made as to actual "life".
I haven't paid attention to battery life much yet but today I listened to music for an hour, used my phone for 4 hours straight (mostly browsing internet with WiFi off), and then let my phone sit for an hour and it was down to 10%. Medium brightness.
Anyone have a change to try it on the WP Benchmark battery test?
Focus S battery
I was in Austin TX yesterday. Unplugged my phone at 6am, but was in meetings most of the day. By 5pm I was down to 30% battery. i.e., very little usage.
I do sync my ME mail account every 30mins (I get about 50 emails a day in this account) and my Exchange account is set to push (I get up to 200 emails a day on that account). I am also signed in to Facebook, Linkedin, whattsapp and Twitter, but did not use them much (ie. a dozen messages max). I have also set my "run in background" option to off for all apps.
Today in Portland OR. Unplugged at 6am made a couple of calls for a total of about 90 minutes and I am at <50% by 11am....
I agree it needs a few more days of recharge cycles, but it is not looking very good to me..
Love the phone though.
Nick
This is the 3rd day in a row where I come home with a dead phone. I take it off the charger at 8AM go to work, I sync my Facebook and my Twitter, I have a weather app running, I have two twitter apps (testing which I like better) and I listen to maybe an 1.5 hours of podcast total. At 5:30 my phone is dead. I need to do further tests to see if its something I am doing.

Try this:
- Brightness to low
- Disable all background apps (launch'em when you really need'em)
And see the difference (was quite big for me, for Focus).
Well for now I turned off all my background apps, when I unplug my phone off the charger at 8AM it said I have a day and 9 hours left, after an 40 mins of music and some texting its down to 23 hours, so while that isn't bad, a drop off of 10 hours in less than 2 hours is odd.
I'll try to play with it a bit more and see what is causing the drastic drop.

It's not odd. The 1day 9h is the standard assumption on battery time by the OS. In reality, battery time can be more (eg days on standby) or less (eg 8-9h video playback). If you start using the phone, the OS will update it's prediction on battery time, hence the drop you noticed.
3 Hours since last full charge, and now I have 19 hours left at 74%. I have listened to some music, downloaded two apps and that's about it. Some text messages I guess.
I'm pretty happy with my battery life, what is bother me is the sound quality coming out of the headphone jack. It sounds way too flat and too low in volume, I compared it with the my iPhone 4 and Galaxy S2 and it is no competition? Anyone else noticed this? By the way this is the first WP7 phone I get, and I love WP7. This will be the platform I will stay on
Just ran the battery benchmark. Focus S ran for 4:30 versus 3:37 for the Focus.
