I'm using 'tar'. It requires a functional system to restore to, but it works..

Someone is trying to sell me a tab that is stuck on the lockscreen due to a forgotten password. There's no CW recovery installed or any root, but I was wondering if I can boot into stock recovery and wipe data to do away with the password? I'm not too familiar with stock recovery so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yea boot into stock recovery by holding vol up + power and select wipe data
But why would someone sell in that condition
Its probably stolen, tc
If they have an invoice to go with the tab IMEI, you can buy it. There are simple ways to recover it from that state. It's not the technical but the legal implications that you should worry about IMHO.
Peace.
there's ALWAYS a way around passworded devices, but like others mentioned, it's the legitimacy of the devices' owner that comes into question more than whether the device is recoverable..
So I've gotten myself into a real mess with my nook. I was playing around with it and accidentally deleted my user partition and when I was trying to repair it I ended up wiping it of everything... So as I've been trying to fix it with Nook Manager which creates a backup but I don't think its a functioning one because when I press restore backup nothing happens. I also tried doing a factory restore but it says the factory restore.zip is missing. I can't find either a backup img or a restore.zip for the NST online anywhere. Is there any hope or is this thing gone for good? I would really appreciate any help people can offer.
Can anyone please test this for me?

I know i did somthing incredibly stupid but because now i cannr enable the wifi and settings show that there is no mac address. Factory reset failed to bring any solution. Can anybody help please?

sounds like when you restored the info from your old phone it borked something. If you made a back up before doing that then I would restore it. Otherwise you will need to most likely restore to stock or if you were on a custom rom reflash it.
try factory reset, never ever backup that kind of stuff, unless it's via LG tool.

I had some problems with my the settings on my STV. After messing around with deleting data from certain system apps, the home button on my remote does no longer respond and the controllers has issues whenever i reboot the system.
The home button does not respond from any device, that be remote, controller or android phone app remote. I am beginning to think that the solution is a factory reset, but then my apps and movies and everything will be deleted.
Is there any way to reflash the latest OTA, or anything to try and restore functionality?

Shield recovery image flashing instructions
nVidia Download Center
Yes you can use the nvidia images to flash everything back to normal. It is easy to do with everything provided.
Well, thanks for the answer guys, the reason I was asking was only to avoid unlocking bootloader as that would delete everything on the device.
I just made a complete factory reset.
