Gingerbread - G2 and Desire Z General

I know there's roms out and stuff, but does anyone know when gingerbread is going to be released for the G2?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

Nobody knows. Oh and if your name means what I think it means... Go Bulls
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

I bet they going to wait for 2.4 and just skip 2.3 since 2.3 and 2.4 are the same with only dualcore app support

lol I wonder when it will come out too but I guess I just have to wait
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

That's what custom roms are for.
Rooted Vision goodness @ 1.5Ghz.

Google really isn't helping the process with the 2.4 sightings. Why would htc put the resources into 2.3.? when people will just start crying for 2.4 in another month? I know if I was in charge I would say screw the 2.3 update and put the effort into 2.4.
Makes you grateful for all the devs here.

Jit for 2.1?

It seems that 2.1 is much faster and much more stable. What are the chances of getting a stable jit for 2.1? In my opinion this would be better than any 2.2 that's out right now. I know when I flash from baked snack 1.6 to any 2.2 beta rom it is a huge downgrade.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I think the chances are very slim, since we are on the cusp of froyo.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I suspect that you didn't get the full 2.2 experience as 2.2 is definetely an upgrade.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yea, well this is samsung and sprint... so probably feb. Just seems that with jit added to 2.1 would make a much better rom.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yes I have experienced 2.2, its ok but nowhere near baked snack 1.6 w/ phoenix kernel set to interactive

several things about this statement, the only 2.2 experience u have had is from unfinished beta works, so its not the "real" 2.2 experience, second, i dont see any custom kernels for our froyo yet, would probably be since there hasn't been a source release? so of course once the official build comes out there will be rooted/oc'd/custom kernels shortly after that perform much better than stock

Yea, he did but it is very unstable... I was just hoping one of our awesome developers could capitalize on it.

Jit is designed for 2.2 I believe. And it's pointless to even bother trying to get it to work since we'll have froyo soon. Once official froyo is out and the kernel source is released, we'll have things that leave baked snack 1.6 in the dust. Just be patient, it'll be here soon

I hear ya.. I am just tired of samsung support and im thinking of trading for the evo. The evo will be getting gingerbread anyday now according to a sprint rep. Not sure how reputable that is but he swears on it! And the evo is a rom junkies dream! Lol but damn, epic has so much potential.. never get another samsung though...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
First off gingerbread isn't completely finished yet, second gingerbread hasn't even been released to manufacturers, and it hasn't even shown fully so the rep who told you that is full of hit

Yea that sprint rep was full of it or doesn't know his shizz, as is true for most sprint reps

Samsung/XDA part2

I haven't forgot about you guys. Today we had a meeting with XDA owners via telephone. Were just getting everything ready before we make a huge announcement. I told you guys I'm NOT going to let you guys down. Just be a little patient.

Would rather hear about a froyo source release for our phone than a official froyo release to be honest. Our devs do way better work with source than what samsung would release as official froyo. Look at the amazing work that noobl has done without source for froyo and we have an awesome dev that even has released work of an miui port (which I am most excited for coming from an htc incredible with a fully working port).

Samsung John, thank you so much for making a connection with the people at XDA and being less transparent with the end user. However even if you are coming out with an announcement, could we have at least an eta. After a while of hearing nothing but coming soon, something along the lines of coming in a month, 6 weeks, 2 weeks, whatever would be much appreciated with any announcement. I am not even talking about froyo, I am talking about anything in general. But again thank you for coming and creating this channel with XDA.

So, what now?

Now that the official Froyo release has dropped and we have custom roms like ACS and Bonsai with the new modem. Is that it? I don't image our phones will ever get gingerbread, and if they do it'll be in 2013 when we all have newer better phones and Android 6.0 is out. I guess im wondering if there is anything to look forward to in the development arena for the Epic in the future?
Froyo bug fixes, CM7, official Gingerbread, maybe a GB bug fix update, then EOL, up to the community.

I have afeeling we have atleast 1 more year of good development to come, peaking in about 3-6 months, then declining the other 6. Not that development ever really took off,I would blame the update situation for this.

Yeah I hope so. I think samsung def screwed the pooch on this with all the froyo delays. Who knows when we'll/if we will see gingerbread

This guy tell that ICS is complete. Hope that it is true

It says that ICS will work on any/most phone, do u think our phone will get an update to ICS
Sent from my GT540 using XDA App
I think our phones should get ICS update. But the real problem with our phone is, its RAM. With just 167 MB it wont be easy to deliver high performance and multi-tasking simultaneously. But I do feel that we too can get an update. If not, why are developers here for! Anyways, even if LG says we could get an update it would in next year that too, in March or April. Let's just hope! Cross fingers!!
Not likely to be offical so most likely AOSP or cm
Wats the difference between AOSP and offical? I dont think there is that much difference

Officials are ROMs that are made by developers assigned by original manufacturers.
my bad dint state properly AOSP as in we make a rom from google sources or a cm rom and im very sure its not coming from lg

[ICS] should they stop working on it

I've been following the ics project since after my birthday (11/27/11) and a lot has changed but when it comes to (FFC) it came to me that its not gonna work till maybe after the summer or never, whenever HTC gives out the code bit what's your opinion about the ics for the EVO 4G?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
This doesnt belong in the Android Development section, belongs in GENERAL.
My bad I thought it was general at first. The system will automaticly do it for me as usual.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
ummm my opinion on it is that if they dont want to they shouldnt. It will give us an awesome rom but more importantly that means our wonderful devs are learning stuff. this means that in the future they can use these experiences to help them in work or in other aspects of there personal lifes. so dev on guys you are doing great
Why in the world should they stop working on ICS? It makes little sense.
Deck and Kang and others are making great ICS ROMs for lots of phones, not just the EVO4G.
htc will release the code.. because it is an open source project. when is the question, not if.
ics will come..

The OS code is open source. The device drivers are not last I knew. So no, HTC does not have to release driver code.
HTC may release the FFC code for our OG's as soon as they sell enough of their newer devices.
They seem to be dragging their feet in releasing the official ICS updates for the Evo 3D and the Evo Design when they said they would, but they're holding it back, why? Cuz they want to sell enough of the One series models before they officially update the older HTC models that are scheduled to be updated with ICS.
Its kinda crappy of HTC to do that, but hey, they're a "for-profit" business.
But in answer to your question, heck no they shouldn't stop developing ICS for our OG Evo's! This sh*t is fun as hell.

what is the point of this thread? why is that a question? sorry no disrespect.
Yeah, I don't get why a thread was started for this. But why should devs abandon ICS on Evo? Because they can't get FFC to work!? I've been on ICS since the minute they got camera working (around Xmas), and could NEVER imagine going back to GB or Froyo (well, ...maybe froyo).
Keep up the awesome work, all who are working on ICS for Evo.

The evo is EOL(end of life) HTC doesn't have to support it any longer meaning they won't release any source for it as they are not working on ICS for the device. Hardware mfgs may release source for the same hardware in other devices, like they did with the adreno or the devs may code their own drivers. But don't expect HTC to do a damn thing for the evo, period.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
All I'm saying we have a lot of people love the ics Rom but some people hate it cause no 4G. But let me tell one thing about the ics it came a lot since then and like some people who are poor or they don't make a lot of money, its hard to keep up with ics roms when the last two months the biggest change was 4.0.4 which is like starting all over again. Don't get me wrong with the debate about their work, its freaking amazing, but the biggest break through will be the ffc. Closest to that is from a horse ride to a plane ride experience
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I don't think that they should stop working on the ICS ROM's. I went from Sense to Ice Cream Sense to ICS and having ICS on my phone is like having a brand new phone. We don't have 4G in our area, and the front facing camera I hardly used. I am using gummyWorms ICS right now and so far had no major problems with it. There are minor glitches sometimes but, that is no big deal. I hope that the ICS developers can get everything working and I know that it will take time to do so. I appreciate all of their hard work in bringing us some ICS goodness to our phones.
