Voodoo on superclean upgrade question - Fascinate General

Since I don't have my ten posts to ask in the proper Dev thread...
Looking to move from superclean 0.8 w/ voodoo kernel to superclean 2.4. There's a link to both voodoo and non voodoo superclean roms now (instead of the typical rom and then choose your kernel). Does this mean I don't have to disable_lagfix and can jump straight to superclean 2.4 voodoo?

I would recommend disabling lagfix before you flash to 2.4 with the new kernel. I don't know if it is absolutely required since I didn't have a choice when I first flashed but it never hurts. Keep in mind that you will also need to flash the new modem.tar from Odin (unless someone has repackaged).
You might want to checkout http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=956289 to see if one of the all in one Odin .tars might be a better starting point for you. Then upgrade to 2.4.

I did not disable lagfix when I first flashed 2.2. I had no issues. For the few short minutes it takes to disable it, its never a bad idea.

To be sure, disable the lagfix. I've always done this even when going from one voodoo ROM to another and have saved myself the countless time, headaches, and frustration of what could happen if something goes wrong. It's so easy to disable it anyway, the minute it takes to do it is good insurance IMO.

Going from voodoo to voodoo ya don't have to disable.

Actually, this is one time you do. When going from an Eclair rom with Voodoo to a Froyo rom with Voodoo, disable the lag fix first. Those instructions come from jt1134 and/or Adrynalyne (can't remember which one just offhand). I could be wrong, but I think that has something to do with needing to install a newer version of the red Voodoo CWM that's compatible with Froyo. Once you're on Froyo, flashing any Froyo roms with a Voodoo kernel should work just fine without disabling.

Agreed.
Can you go to Settings - About Phone - and at the bottom see if your phone says DI01 or DJ05?
I really think you're not running a custom ROM. If you were, your updates would be disabled.
Anyways, let us know.
BTW, this is directed at the OP of this thread.
It says the update is DH12 to DI01
And no I'm not on a custom rom just rooted along with justina 1.2 voodoo kernel.

I would say you need to load a DI01 rom so you don't lose root. Might get a little tricky with voodoo on though.
Any other input?

Remove the old voodoo completely and upgrade to DJ05. Or just ignore the update and carry on.
good day.

You're on an older build. If you want to get up to speed with the rest of the community (to be able to use current roms/kernels/themes), you should check out adrynalyne's posts in the dev section. First disable your old voodoo by adding disable_lagfix file in the voodoo folder on your sdcard, and then reboot and let it convert back to rfs. Then get the dj05 files from adrynalyne's post and flash the dj05 modem.tar in odin.. then boot into cwmrecovery and flash a dj05 rom and a nonvoodoo dj05 kernel, which can be obtained thru rom manager. Then after you let it get thru the first boot process, you can reboot into recovery and flash a new dj05 voodoo 5 kernel, if you want to go back to voodoo. If you want to overclock, I recommend you download one of Nemesis2all's OTB kernels listed in dev section. If not, you can use one of jt1134's voodoo 5 kernels. Geeknik has some nonvoodoo overclocked kernels as well, but only nonvoodoo.
DI01 is still an old build. Most everyone is on the leaked dj05 build now, which hasn't been released officially.. but it fixes gps and some other problems found in di01 and older builds.
If you have any trouble with disabling your old voodoo or converting back to rfs, adrynalyne also has a very useful post on how to completely remove voodoo.

[Q] DJ05 question

Been rooting and tweaking for a little now, still an amateur. I've downloaded the required items from adrynalyne's DJ05 rom, kernel, radio thread and seem to be ready to move forward, but i want to go with geekniks stupid fast kernel. Do i need to follow adrynalyne's steps before moving on with the stupidfast kernel i pick out? Also how reliable is the automatic voodoo uninstaller from the HOWTO thread? asking about voodoo assuming its on my stock rooted fascinate. any insight would be appreciated.
Rooted, Stock rom DI01 Fascinate
I'm not sure if you need to install the kernel in the dj05 thread first or not, but you can definitely use a stupidfast dj05 kernel after because that's what I'm running!

EB01 voodoo removal

Hey guys,
So I installed the voodoo kernel before seeing that it wasn't a final release. I am wondering if clikcing the remove voodoo in the red cwm is good enough so I can flash superclean 2.1. Thaynks for the help.

I left voodoo on and just flashed superclean 2.1 voodoo and its working without issues.
Well I was going to do that but I couldbt find a link to it.

It's the first link in this post.

When I look at it its just a white box. Like it was removed. I can see the bin voodoo just not the voodoo.

Not sure what you mean I can see it just fine. Maybe its the XDA app?

If i'm running Voodoo V.2 with DH12, could I just run the super clean voodoo version over it and get it to work?
For those who are using Froyo and a voodoo kernel (most likely SuperClean 2.1 Voodoo), how is it running? Also, if running a voodoo kernel will performing a nandroid backup to a non-voodoo rom/kernel completely get rid of voodoo? I just want to be sure I can get back to a voodooless rom if something bad happens with the voodoo version of SuperClean 2.1
Thanks.
I've been running it since last night and it seems snappy, but laggy at times when going through apps in the app drawer... I'm giving it a little more time, hopefully voodoo will be available soon when it is meant for the public. If I start seeing trouble I'll for sure switch to non voodoo via removing the lag fix.

Voodoo on super clean 2.1 EB01

Just wanted to know if there were any notable performance gains for normal use other than benchmark scores using voodoo vs non voodoo. I was using voodoo on 2.1 but 2.2 seems so fast already.

Voodoo will help media scanner finish faster, as well as help with installing apps or any other application that does a lot of read/write to memory.
So I see that Superclean 2.2 is out for EB01. I am a bit new to all of this and have had awesome success flashing to Superclean 2.2 non-voodoo and installing some themes.
If I want to try out voodoo, do I just need to flash Superclean 2.2 Voodoo version via ROM Manager? Or, do I have to install Superclean 2.2 Voodoo and then go install the stock EB01 Voodoo Kernel as well?
Also, since I am already running Superclean 2.2 non-voodoo. When I go to flash the voodoo version, do I have to wipe all cache and data?

There is a thread called eb01 voodoo that contains a voodoo kernal for eb01. Download it and flash in recovery. Works over superclean 2.1 novoodoo.
Thanks a lot! Actually just I saw that someone responded, I was in the exact thread that you speak of and doing this actually crossed my mind. Must be some Voodoo magic going on.

It's my jedi mind tricks lol
Or you could just loaded flash the sc 2.2 voodoo package. Adrynalyne usually includes the kernel in it & I bet it's the one from JT.

Yes, there is only one standard version and one Voodoo version of the Froyo kernel available, since there is no source code to modify it any further yet. Any current rom with a 2.6.32.9 Voodoo kernel is using the one from jt.

I am running superclean 2.2 non voodoo and then I flashed just the EB01 voodoo kernel. If I want to upgrade to SC 2.3 should I flash the voodoo or non voodoo version? Any wipes required? Do I have to disable lagfix if I am upgrading to sc 2.3?

quick question on voodoo

I am currently running the leaked voodoo kernel on eb01. Wanting to flash the new one jt just posted.
When exactly do I need to disable voodoo? I know I don't have to flash when I change themes, but what if I wanted to switch to a different eb01 rom down the road? What about flashing a new voodoo kernel later on? Or is the only time I need to disable voodoo lag fix in cwr when going to a non voodoo kernel?
If you are going from voodoo to voodoo there is no need to disable.
Btw I think the one he posted is the only one out
