Every rom I try except Iced Glacier the " H " on the top bar switches to Edge several times over and over. Is there a fix for this? I searched everywhere without any luck its frastrating every rom I try I have this problem and I read everyone else say the roms are great or stable.

The signal strength meter for every ROM might be more accurate then one or the other. I'd download a widget from the market and see if that equals to what the icon is showing @ the top of your screen.
Iced Glacier is based upon the stock ROM, which displays H for any 3G or better network.
Other ROMs may depict the connection more....accurately.
The one I'm using shows 3G for UMTS connections, and H for HSPDA and up.

The Stock Rom is slow but is seems to be stable it has never freezed on me
I used to see H in cooked Roms but in the Stock I only see 3G, but it works!!

Adding custom taskbar icons to your stock rom will probably let you see the "H" icon again, mine never shows up on the stock icons, only custom ones I add.
NICE! thanks for the news flash
I have been using the update that was leaked earlier. Whereas connectivity is much better it is not all roses. My connection still drops for up to 60 seconds when switching between 3G and H. I have noticed this several times now since updating. The switching between 3G and Edge seems to be fixed though as I have not experienced that at all since updating. Half way there for me.
Why don't you use the new one?

Or If you know how to flash I recommend using Energy Rom Works for me
Usedto have connecticity issues not any more!!!
Quickest fix in the world. Turned off google maps locations svs, rock solid 3g!
My nexus one always crashes when i put my face on the screen or even hand . He just lose signal and the call crashes. but if i am not calling and put my hand on the screen the signal remains same.
It happens only with sense ROMĀ“s (i tried evil NXsense, Super hybrid). When I use cyanogen i have got no problem (I usualy have strenght of signal something about 90 dB).
I tried radio 4.06 and now I am using 5.12. but without any effect.
Have got anyone any expirience with this problem or there is some known sollution ? I am becoming pretty desprate because I love sense ROMs
Look in Evil's nxSense thread in the second post and get the network fix from there. Flash it, and it will work.
EDIT: The problem is still occurring. I thought it was fixed.
Myself and a couple other people experienced stange 3g connection problems while running the cm7 nightlies (among other ROMs) with the new HBOOT-0.35.0017. I know it's been said that HBOOT shouldn't have anything to do with your data connection but nonetheless it is causing problems.
Follow the instructions on this thread to downgrade (AMOLED NEXUS OWNERS ONLY!):

After downgrading back to HBOOT 0.33.0012 my connection problems vanished (still running the same CM7 nightly)

Thanks!
I'm sorry to tell you, but hboot has NOTHING to do with the radio part of the phone: it controls the system partitions table and boots the system... nothing else, it doesn't even touch the RAM parts dedicated to the hardware, the kernel does it.
I almost made up my mind to downgrade until seen the edit part. 3g part of signal is very very frustrating experience on my side while call part rarely let it down. Also signal always in close to100 reading while my Acer liquid on T Mobile stays to perfect 75-80 reading.
I'm on HBOOT-0.35.0017 and sometimes I get x gray bars but after it picks up signal and gets connect to H it seem to work fine. Until I lose the signal or I switch to airplane, etc. Takes a while sometimes to get back signal or the H.
I did notice that when the screen goes off my download stops or sometimes when I download certain files it stops right away. I been updating roms so not sure if it related to them, but overall its been like that.

yes screen off downloading stopping is quite annoying...
I dunno but since I upgraded my Hboot and used CM7... my data sucks. It will work then not work. I typically have to reset to get it back. Even switching in and out of airplane mode will not work.
And by 3G I mean my data connection. I'll have full bars and 3G coverage... but no data from the browser, no pings, no online apps, nothing. Seems like the only way to fix it is to reset the phone.
I also noticed my signal is noticeably less at home. Typically I have full bars but now I notice that it's been dropping out and bouncing.
Could be a carrier issue. But I haven't upgraded my radio since 5.08 first came out. I updated my HBoot for the early builds of GB. So I'm willing to test out this theory.
lol, hboot has nothing to do with the phone's radio. The radio version does.
If you're having a problem with the radio (voice/data) then you should look at the radio version you're running.
Again, hboot has nothing to do with your issue.
Ive had the data sticking problem since I got my n1. Remember reading somewhere that if you go into settings - wireless networks - mobile networks - network operators, when it finishes searching select "automatically select". I got T-Mobile & it works for me until the next time I flash a new rom.
FYI when I was on CM 6.1 I had your problems. I then switched to MicroMod777's Gingerbread and those problems disappeared. I've now flashed Enmother's TheOfficial Nexus1 and I'm testing. Absolutely a ROM problem.

Kinda the opposite for me. No data issues when i tried CM 6.1.1 but on MM Gingerbread i had no data connection at all!

Same here. I tried MM and nothing worked! lol. So I went back to the latest CM7 (#24). I'm not sure what the problem is. Now I'm on an older HBoot and an older Radio. I shoulda just left 5.12 and .35 on there.
Once I get my phone pieced back together, I may try one of the older CM6.1 roms to see if that fixes it. I think we are all using Gingerbread roms here, no? Perhaps that just is an issue that comes with it.

Same issue here, wondering if this hboot is incompatible w/ my old radio.
just received my new nightly, will give this method a try as soon as i upgraded.
thanks!
-- just saw the updated post, thanks anyway
Perhaps the OP should change the title and original message to exclude the HBoot details as the problem is with Data connection.
This will let us continue discussion about the data connection problem that we are, I am at least, experiencing.
Using CM7 #24 from 1/30, it seems to be less of an issue. I notice that I'll have 3G and full bars, but no data will work until it changes to an "H". Seems like it might just be the rom. The latest nightly seems to correct the issue better then before. Now if I open a browser, after 30s-1minute, it will start chugging along.
Ever since moving to CM7 from CM6.1.1 I have noticed that I receive spotty HSDPA connections in areas where there is adequate coverage. It will randomly switch to EDGE, then go back to H a little bit later. Is there anything I can do about this?
I am running CM7 build 30 with all standard features (kernel, etc).
Thanks in advance for any help.

do you have the new radio?
I have the radio that came standard with build 30. I do not have this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007684
Builds don't have radios
Try using the new one and see how that works out

Flashed it and everything is going good so far. I'll just have to wait and see how it does over the next few days. Thanks for the help!
Update: So I haven't noticed any improvements in the connection since flashing the new radio. Any other sugestions?
On a side note, my signal bars will go white and not return to green after about 2 days after a reboot. I have to reboot to get them green again, then 2 days later they go white again. The cycle continues...
Any tips on this one?
I got alot of help on these forums and made rooting mytouch 4g easy! I then flashed Darkside's rom with the new 3.5 sense and my 4g connectivity just didn't work anymore...I think I may have used rcmix tweaks and tried to make the "4g" symbol pop up. The problem is I get the "4G" signal on top for maybe a second then it will drop for about 15seconds then it would repeat. I figured if I upgraded to 2.3.4 stock and lose root it would erase the issue but nope...still same issue.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix the connectivity issue? I can't use T-mobile's network for data anymore.
Take the tweak off and try removing battery and sims for a minute and re boot up

The 4G icon will only appear when data is actively being sent or received. Otherwise it says "3G".
I don think so mines appear when no data us.received

My issue is that whenever a program tries to use my mobile data, the data connection shuts off then it will turn on and be in active use until I decide to try to use it again in which it will shut off again.
Still having this issue on two of my phones after flashing the Darkside Rom..if anyone who flashed this rom and encountered a issue with their data connection dropping let me know! If anyone has any solutions please feel free to post.
I have found nothing to fix this as of yet. I tried going back to stock but still same issue. Called T Mobile.... had them reset the connection for me still nothing its on this phone's end...
That Rom was wonderful though...fast and smooth.
Im in nyc BTW so I have constant signal and 4g.

and the rom is still wonderful...Ive been running it since initial release and never had a problem with lost or poor data connections. I would try maybe redownloading the newest version of the rom and full wipe(excluding SD) then install it again. if the problem still occurs, maybe you could try switching up your radio
I think its a radio issue to be honest. I booted both phones into bootloader. Radio 26.03.02.26_M is on for both..One phone is still on darkside's rom and the other is stock froyo...any advice?

whoops well enjoy the free thanks lol meant to hit the quote button. the radio thread is linked in my sig, click on it and itll take you there with instructions on how to change it. Im on the stock radio as it works best in my area, while a different radio might work better in your case. give the panache radio a shot, thats my next best radio to use
*edit* the instructions on the thread require adb. if you dont know how to use it, just rename the file to PD15IMG.zip, put it in the root of your sdcard, and reboot the phone into your bootloader. itll recognize the file and prompt you to update, hit yes
Just finished flashing the panache radio no luck still dropping connection...I was wondering if you knew which radio would work best in nyc? I'm going through the whole list now.. Thanks again for your help.

I really have no idea about NYC lol, just continue through the list until you find the best one. but teejay is right, itll only show 4G if data is actually being sent or received and show 3G while idle. just confirmed it on my phone
I was having problems with data connectivity tonight too on the darkside rom. Tried toggiling data on/off and a couple reboots, but nothing fixed it. Flashed to cm7 and data's working fine...

Thanks for the info guys..Im in a constant 4G area in NYC. I barely ever went below 4G but thats not the problem it's the data disconnecting but I will try to flash CM7 and see if it helps any.
Just wanted to update my thread...I have downgraded, upgraded stock roms etc...just flashed royal ginger 3.0 and kept darkside's rom on my other phone...
My conclusion is this is t-mobile's issue due to me changing plans and they haven't configured my plan correctly...
