Hi guys, sorry for stupid question.
I'm happy user of T-mobile MT3G in US and I'm planning trip to Greece. Will I be able to use it for data either with 3G or EDGE networks?
EDGE only.
Thank you for your answer Taknarosh. It's good enough
Be aware that you will be paying heavy roaming charges.
Thank you, I sure am. That was actually my second question - how to minimize data usage? Using this phone for a limited time I noticed lots of background applications accessing the Net. Gmail is one of them, what else?
Can anyone advise me on whether or not an unlocked TMO myTouch will work on AT&T and take advantage of the 3G data capabilities?
I currently own an HD2 and it will not do 3G data on AT&T.
My existing plan is the $10 unlimited data, will AT&T see it as a "smart phone" like an iPhone? Is tethering possible with the myTouck?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
No T-mpbile phone can get 3g speeds on AT&T towers, and vice versa.
I have both phones also on ATT. I use the same data plan as you. Never had any problems, even when I call in they do no see what phone I am using. ATT doesn't register T-Mobile imei numbers as far as I know. I've been using T-Mobile phones on ATT for 9 years with no troubles. As you know, you just do not get ATT 3g. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.
where do you get the $10 unlimited data plan? All I have been able to find is the $30 unlimited data plan.

AT&T has them for "dumb" phones (NOT PDA's)
I don't know how AT&T is dividing up the data for 3G and (the impending) 4G, but it seems to me that my data access has gone from +3000kbps to a measly 600kbps. Can anyone else on AT&T verify and state the phone that they're using? Thanks.

Throttling is common with service providers, could be based on your usage.
yea, maybe throttling would be the better term for it. My monthly usage is around 300MB so it's not a major concern to me if my downspeed is 3000kbps or 600kbps, I was just curious if anyone else on AT&T have had similar things happening to them.
About to head to Europe with our Xoom's. In case we need to use them when wifi isn't available (like for google maps), what do we need to do to use 3g internationally (knowing that we will pay through the nose)? Thanks.
eric
Call and activate intl. data plan. But it is cdma only. So you might be SOL. Do you have a worl phone you can use to teather it to.
Just remembered the Xoom is CDMA only - duh! Never mind...
eric
I believe xoom has 3g gsm version, not only cdma version.
Regards
as i discovered the hard way, depending what country you come from, mobile phones can easily roam, but data is a killer, for us aussies anywhere else in the world incurs a 15 aussie dollar per meg data charge, so best way to go is, find a free wifi spot
You can download sections of google maps for offline use you know.

I understand that T-Mobile's new free 2G international roaming doesn't like tethering. Does anyone know if they're restricting that by user agent? Has anyone actually tried tethering it out of the USA?

Use FoxFi. It's an app made just for using wifi tethering without A tether plan. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi
READ the App description. There's a note for T-Mobile users.

Thank you. Looks like I have to use USB tether? Is there software required on my laptop as well?
Also, anyone have any idea whether FoxFi would work on the free international data roaming?

If you want to share your phone's internet as a WiFi hotspot, use FoxFi. If you want to use USB tethering, use Clockworkmod Tether. These are the best I think. And yeah, it should work, there's no harm in trying, they're both free apps.
Thanks!
The only harm is that if I get to Europe and it doesn't work, I'm sort of up a creek without a paddle if I can't tether. But the alternative is to rent a really expensive mifi device to have data over there, and I'm hoping not to have to do that.

do a little test to see if your phone/laptop will tether.
Buy a cheap sd card or order a free one as the nexus is unlocked you won't have to rent anything. Also tethering on 2g isn't worth the hassle anyway.
