so i am just wondering what will happen if say the G2 does get gingerbread and I am Running CM 6.1 RC2... will i get the update, or will i have to go back to the stock rom to get it to work with the phone... assuming CM 6.1 wont work with 2.3 right away?
I agree OTAs are always blocked especially in CM6, I wonder if Gingerbread will be called CM7?
since CM has been going up in version for every other release of android then i would say it is safe to say that gingerbread will become CM7

True. But Eclair (2.0/1) was 6.0, and Froyo (2.2) is 6.1. So if Gingerbread is really 2.3 as suggested, then it'd make sense that it be 6.2.
Either way, it doesn't matter

No, you're wrong.
Donut was CM4.
Eclair was CM5.
Froyo is CM6. When cyanogen updated to 2.2.1, that may have been why they changed it to 6.1, don't quote me on it though.
So it makes sense that Gingerbread will be CM7

To answer the OP: yes, ota's are blocked in cm. A rooted build will be out within the next day of release, and might work over cm without a wipe. Sadly, cm7 on the other hand won't be out for a little while after gingerbread source is released.

I have the same question... But the difference is that Im running Virtuous 0.7.0 (I really like the Sense on my G2)... so, If Gingerbread is released... Will apply to my phone, even if im running that awesome Virtuous ROM? or I have to do what @aad4321 replied earlier??
I wouldn't worry. A CM Gingerbread build will be out long before a carrier OTA...unless you're on a Nexus One!

may be a dumb questions, but can another ROM be flashed over the updated GB ROM? for instance, if i flashed the GB ROM, can I flash MikShift over it? or will that just take me back to 2.2 with MikShift?

It will take you back to Froyo 2.2.
Mikshift is a 2.2 Sense based rom.
And This is 2.3.3 Gingerbread

i installed the new leaked rom and it worked great for me, i haven't had any problems with it and yes i also flashed the new radio........did anyone notice the kingdom port is almost done, i can't wait its gonna be a sweet rom

are there any kernels available for the gb leak?? and i saw some people got the lockscreen 3.0 installed. Could some one post some instructions on how to do that! thanks!

To install the 3.0 Lockscreen you need to be on MikShifted G (http://www.themikmik.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=178&t=940)
After you are on that rom and have it all set up how you like it, have Titanium Backup installed and then follow the instructions on this post (from me) (http://www.themikmik.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=11143#p11143)

Am i the only one that really would like the fascinate to get MIUI gingerbread? We already have a port and we also have CM7. It would just make my day if someone would port/upgrade the MIUI ROM that we currently have.

Once we get a fully working CM7, then I am sure someone will take a stab at it. Just be patient. If you are looking for some MIUI with great functionality I would definitely use TSM's MIUIWIZ. It is pretty sweet.

Also couldn't we get gingerbread MIUI now? but mms and other stuff wouldn't be working

Well jt is working on cm7 using a .35 kernel now...alot of the issues have been gotten around or fixed...just working on radio stuff now...id imagine once that's gtg then gb miui would follow suit

My friend has an incredible and he has MIUI gingerbread on his phone, its pretty awesome. So i was just wondering the status of the fassy getting MIUI ginger, but i'll be patient and wait till the day!

2.3.5 is best in my opinion I tried the 2.2 roms didn't like them tried mur4iks work loved it never looked back

mur4ik cant do anything about the battery. that is why our phone is never officially updated to 2.3 cus 2.3 is power hungry and so using alot of battery

I know, and that is why I ask about Froyo ROMs..
Well, if you just want a stock looking, fast ROM, then go for AOSP, but if you want more themes, and other mods then go for Utopia.
I'm staying on Utopia.. and I will make MIUI theme for it when I get my phone back..

Market is not working on 2.2.1 utopia...unable to download apps from market....if i click download the apps are being shown as downloading but are not completed downloading what to do

Works fine for me, try flashing gapps. Download this, put it on the SDCard and flash it using Clockwork Recovery.
Utopia anytime, miroslav_mm is working really hard on it. It's a lot more 'complete' than AOSP

Utopia was my favorite until the RC3 version came out. I had a lot of trouble trying to make Link2SD work (I experimented with different versions of Busybox and finally I got it to recognize the second partition) but today I had another problem with WiFi, which suddenly stopped seeing my WPA2 home network. I had to go back to my previous version, where everything works...
I'm really intrigued about Utopia. I've read that it's fast yet it doesn't eat up battery like other roms. I'm just wondering how do I upgrade to that. I currently have stock eclair and somewhat of a noob when it comes to rom upgrading. Thanks

You could flash a Fastboot ROM vis KDZ. It could be one of the many ways.

Forget about Sense 3.0....It's not working on HTC hero:-j...to install it you need a partition on the sd card and some tweaks to install on the hero

well...try a 2.1 android rom but with tweaks(vr13 or eles reloaded one) and see after that if your phone is slow

Sense 3.5 gave FC's a lot for me and it's just not ok generaly... Sense 2.1 is best you can probably have for hero.
