[Q] CM6.1/CM7 + Froyo/Eclair Stock Kernek - Will it work? - Legend General

Hey guys,
Since I've still experience a problem with bluetooth with cyanogen roms,
I thought maybe I can replace the kernel which comes with CM 6.1/CM7
with the stock froyo kerenl or even eclair kernel - I 100% know that there is no bt problems for me with these kernels....
But if I do it, will CM work ok? Am I still be able to use data2ext to move apps to sd card?
Appreciate any help.

It might do. Be careful, backup. Bluetooth seems to work fine in later builds though

Thnaks TGF, but is your data2ext script also supported for stock kernel?
An why you say that ext4 version is safer than ext2 version?
How safer?

As long as the ROM runs scripts from /system/etc/init.d the will at least run. Ext4 won't corrupt all your data if you do a battery pull

Im about to install Manual Nooter on my SD card and begin to hack. Assuming everything goes correctly with that.....what ROM should i put on it after?
I hear CM7..now CM7.02 i think is the newest, is supposedly the best and fastest.

Anyone have any ideas especially if your running one you like, let me know please. Thanks!!

My vote would be for CM7 and the OC kernel. I played around with a bunch of the options and have settled on this as my base.
But it's so easy to try different things I would have to suggest that you try anything that catches your fancy, once you have a good backup of the current base configuration.

The nightly experimental builds are just that, experimental. They may blow up, or not work properly with certain apps, or conflict with the OC kernel. The stable builds are the "officially supported" builds.
What I currently have is a stable 7.02 configuration running with the 4-24 OC kernel and a bunch of installed apps that all work right in this setup. I back it up to my SD card using the"Backup Current ROM" option in ROM Manager (I bought the premium version).
If I update to a nightly I can always go back to that backup if I screw something up. I've only screwed it up that badly once so far

I have everything set up and working correctly (yayayayay!).....but im haveing trouble loading a kernel. Apparently i need an updated CWM on my sd card since i have 3.0.0.5, which is super outdated i think. The 4/24 kernel dowloads and install correctly, but it doesnt affect anything and i can still only OC to 925 through CM7 settings. Soooo im trying to look for the newest CWM so i can dowload and put it on my SD card

You should be able to flash the current version of CWM from the ROM Manager application.

[Q] HD2 with gingerbread and sense 3 from SD with partitions

Hello all.
I am using DL_DesireZ v3.x at the moment, whis is Froyo with Sense 2.0.
According to the instructions I've partitioned my SD card to 3 partitions, one 6.5GB FAT32, one 1GB ext4 and another 512M ext4.
So far, this has been the stablest and fastest non-nand ROM for me (I can't get rid of WM because I need to use iGO and Garmin from it) but I'd like to get some of the updates and functionalities that came with Gingerbread, and since I do like Sense, I want it as well.
So, can somebody tell me is there any GB+Sense3 build for HD2 that is SD based and which can use ext3/4 partitions for data2sd or whatever it is called exactly?
Thanks.

Weeel, that was a revelation of sorts...
Anyhow, after checking all of those builds, two things are clear:
- most of them are not for SD
- Sense 3 builds are far from stable & working
What do I mean?
It seems than NAND frenzy has taken strongly among HD2 owners for whatever reason they want to get rid of WM6.5, so most of the builds are stated as NAND.
There are some that are marked as ROM-ZIP...what are those?
On the other hand, I know that there are roms that are to be used with MAGLDR and some (if not all) can be used as a normal SD build, with haret, data.img and so on.
One example is the one I'm using right now, DL Desire, which comes as a NAND version and as a SD/MAGLDR version.
So how can I tell if a certain MAGLDR rom is usable as a SD build as well? Is it possible at all, as a general rule, if an author of a build does not explicitelly state so?
The second thing is more problematic, and is obviously kernel and hardware related.
Sense3 builds have graphic/camera problems (mutually) and also problems with some widgets (weather), boot menu, lock screen etc.
I've tried MccMBoxmaX GS V5.0 and was really surprised to see it work pretty good and fast (albeit with no apps installed) disregarding mentioned problems with graphics etc.
Since there is no build yet that has all the things fixed, I believe I should try an older ones with the latest Sense version before Sense3.
But which one is it? 2.1? And do they come in combination with Gingerbread as a base and what builds have that combination, also for SD and possibly using ext2/3/4 partitions?
I hope I'm not boring, but I've tried a bunch of different roms for SD with and without partitions support and now they are getting more and more rare and the whole "list of builds" has become so long and confusing that I just don't know which ones support what and which ones are for what...
Hi,
What you will have noticed,is that sd is not that well supported.
If you need to keep WM,then you are going to struggle to find very much.
Have you tried the American droid for sd?
A lot of people rave about it...
Try This rom
but it need ext on sd
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038694
It's fast and stable till now for me
have you looked in the sd development section?
Hah!
It came out of the blue....just a few days ago I downloaded V5 where I saw all those mentioned Sense3 problems and there's V6 already...
Gotta get it today...
Oh yes, BTW I'm following SD devel thread constantly so I know what's going on there...and I still need helping info...

Oh yes, I forgot, I'm talking about MccM BoxMax V6 that Dr.Hisham mentioned...
Working pretty well, although some problems have been discovered like BT not working, graphics glitches etc...although, it is pretty snappy even though it is Sense3 (2.1 actually).
But, it seems it will take some time to fix everything and so I'm opting for the following: SD build with ext partitions for data2sd, with Gingerbread and last version of Sense before 2.1 (2.0.x?) - anybody knows anything about those?
Guys, anybody with anything?
SDcard Gingerbread builds with pre-2.1/3 Sense for HD2?

[Q] Convert Ext4 back to Ext3?

Hello gents/ladies, I recently decided to change things up a bit, and flashed from CM 7.0.3 to Darkside Sense v3.0.0. As part of installing the new ROM, the file system was changed from Ext3 to Ext4. I have decided to go back to CM7, this Sense 3.5 Rom is just to buggy and laggy for me.
My question is, not knowing a whole lot about the difference in the two file systems, do I need to convert back to an Ext3 filesystem to run CM7, and if so, how do I safely go about doing this? I have searched around the forums, but have not found a definitive guide on how to do this, if it is necessary.
Thanks in advance for helping a n00b out

That's definitely what I'm trying to figure out, still searching.
Note: More searching reveals that Gingerbread ROM's use an Ext4 filesystem? If this is the case, then originally installing CM7 on my phone would have already been an Ext4 filesystem?? If so, I don't know why I was thinking it was converted by installing the Sense 3.5 ROM.

[Q] Stable 2.2 or 2.1 ROM

Hello,
I've tried a few roms on my LG GT540: lately "CyanogenMod 6: mikegapinski", "Project Utopia: miroslav_mm" and "SwiftDroid's Little Brother: mur4ik".
All of them have some issues: in some the SD card doesn't work, in others doesn't work the camera and yet in others doesn't work the WiFi.
What are the most stable 2.1 or 2.2 ROMs (2.3 takes too much battery..) where everything works?
Is it possible to have fastboot with the 2.1 stock ROM? If it's possible I think I'd go back to that one...

Yes, Utopia and mikegapinski's ROM couldn't see my SD card.
Is there a fix for that? Couldn't find a solution in the Utopia thread... If there's a way to fix it, I'll try Utopia again in some days...

maybe you can try to wipe the SD-Card and repartition it. You can create a sd-ext and swap-partition.
since i did that i never had any problems in any rom (8 GB )

I already changed the partitions of my SD card (the 2GB stock one) some time ago, shrinking the FAT partition and adding a little ext2 partition at the end of the disk.
Some ROMs can see it (usually the older ones), while others can't (the most recent ones).
As soon as I get some spare time I'll try to destroy and recreate the partition table and then to flash some other 2.2 ROM...
Thanks for the suggestions!
I was anxious to try Utopia again.
Repartitioned the SD card again (this time erasing and recreating all the partitions, instead of resizing them) and everything is working!
Hope this Utopia will last long without problems!

Mdeejay Upgrade Kernel on SD - No flashing! CJust COPY/PASTE. - Help!

Hi guys,
How are ya? I hope all of you are in good spirit today! (and give me some advice )
I got HTC HD2 and I have Mdeejay eVo on my sd card and I launch Android from WM6.5, it's working flawlessly and I do not find JET any problem BUT from my research I understood if I update the kernel in my Android I will have more fixes and tweeks BUT I do not know where find the right kernel and how to install it.
I try for weeks and I don't know where I can find the kernel compatible for my android, currently my kernel in hastarin 7.7 and where I can find the update? I already contacted Hastarin but he is retired and can't help me much.
Also I do not have Android flashed on my ROM so I can't use CWM or similar, I can ONLY copy the new kernel into my sdcard, BUT I don't know if it is in the right way to update, or I missing something?
Someone can explain with basic words how to do that? Pleeasee.
Cheers in advance.
.....nobody know how update the kernel? Help.
You are stuck in old times mate. .. Get the native SD roms.. Try xylos Pacman rom on native sd.. From nand section
Hastarin kernels latest one support ics and jelly bean. ..

my friend, you don't understand, I do not need upgrade, all working fine and I don't have big problems, I just need to undate the kernel. This is so complicated? You have time to do all this stuff again and going for new problems and serchings, I don't.
The only thing which I need is to update my kernel, like many pepole update they kernels I want it too but I am not expert in this section.
Someone know how? For old stuff shuld be easy.
Get an updated kernel zip, unzip it, find zImage file, copy it to SD/Android/, if there's /system folder in the zip, copy it to /Android/root, then hope it will work.
Also, backup everything first.

Oh,
of course I will backup all before but ok, wait, so I have to get ANY updated kernel for my phone (HTC HD2) and take zImage file ONLY and replace it with the old 1 which I have already?
am I right?
And put /system folder from zip in /android/root on your sd. That should be all. Then test it. When making the backup, copy entire Androd folder, because the rest of the files might be affected too.
Also for newer kernels I'd look at Dorimanx' or tytung's work.

ah, ok. well, I do have Dorimax Kernel 7.3 and what I know he is to complicated. I just do not understand nothing from his package, there are many kernels and set-ups, I think that section is for experts. Also I don't know what for you want to update a bit your kernel? If the phone working well keep it in that way. I updated from 7.7 to 8.6 and I losed camera and camcorder. Yes, the rom working well and with this kernel I can do overclock and many other things but now I have to fix the camera. So keep in mind if you update you can have some trouble.
Sorry but I can't help you with Dorimax, is away from my knowledge.
