Dear XDA, I would humbly ask for your assistance please.
A bit of a sad, long story =( I spent 3 hrs last night trying to do a 3 minute job for a friends SGS.
Firstly, I had to use a custom jig to force download mode. For some reason my SGS has 3BR, but this guy doesn't.
So I try to install voodoo 5.4.1 - it does this, and when it finishes, it does robotic voices and tries to boot up, then his bloody kies pops up at the initial booting screen, and it never finishes booting.
Logging into the IRC channel for voodoo, I realise the problem may have actually been that his phone firmware was 2.1, which means I made a horrible mistake...?
So then I'm trying to do things like installing the eclair version of voodoo, installing the stock firmware from sams firmware. Etc etc.
At some stage there was a problem that it repeatedly said "converting data partition to optimized extension 4", which troubled me more.
So, right now, it has a rom on it that supercurio gave me that gives me a recovery screen. I'll attach a picture of what it looks like, and some errors that may help.
Regards,
Szczecinmeister
P.s. When I try to attach my image taken from my phone, it says after approximately 8 posts I can post links?

I assume you were using odin so the first thing you should have done was the 3 button fix. There is a great topic in the forum. Its title is something like '3 button recovery fix - 110% safe. Just search or google it. Should be easy to find. I used the odin method and it takes under 5 minutes.
Secondly, anytime you flash with odin you need to kill off kies including the tray agent running in the backgroung.
Anyway, not sure if you can fix it now by just flashing a kernal so its probably best to do a full odin flash back to stock. Use a firmware that has all 3 files and tick repartition. Should get you back to stock. Just remember to also do the 3BR fix while you are at it.
Good luck.

Hi sxi200,
Thank you so much for your response. So you're saying I did the right thing by trying to flash back to stock firmware using Odin, but I should have just ticked "Repartition"?
I tried fixing lack of 3BR on another phone, but it made a brick out of it! Obviously I did something wrong, but it was a little freaky. This is the second time it's happened unfortunately... very frustrating.
Not to be rude, but you really should have done more research before attempting this. Clearly you're not well read enough to be messing around with your own phone - let alone that of a friends.
Install Android 2.2.1 ROM And then Flash Voodoo 5.4.1
any rom with 3 files and repartetion ticked
Thanks Dadyal, I've done this and now after booting up it has a black screen, and buzzes once, then twice - as if a program is being unresponsive. Not sure what to do here, but I assume I need to boot into recovery mode and format something...?
msolus, I resent those comments... this is not the place for rebukes and retrospection. I'm not sure if you consider that a valuable contribution, but I'm going to continue using Voodoo on my phone and recommending it to others who are also interested.

Um, I've heard that JPU is not good to use, and I should be using JPY...
Agreed but u need the full package that jpu provides and then once your.phone is working you can install jpx, joy,js3 js5 the skys the limit.

I9000XWJS5 Full
JPU with .512 Pit file has the required updated boot loaders for the froyo build, as you have a 2.1 build by default these will need to be updated 1st before you can go to JPY, JS3 etc
i would recommend flashing JPU with re-partition ticked, with a .512 pit, then flash JPY no pit or partition, then choose whichever rom you required

Hey guys,
JPU Rocked My World!!!
Okay, so all of his "data" is there, like DCIM stuff, but all his text messages and contacts are gone... I take it these are not recoverable??
Thanks very much guys! Going to give him the tasty voodoo rom now.
Oh wow... and as an extra... that also gave him 3BR!
pretty standard to lose the SMS and locally stored contacts (best saved to sim for back up)
did you stop at JPU or go further for JPY or JS3/JS5?
glad to hear that you sorted it tho

Thanks Dan! Actually I was having trouble accessing internet. I just flashed it to DTJP5 because I thought that's what is probably best since it's what I have. Prior to all this he had DTJP3.
Then I discovered stuff about APNs and installed that. I'll just leave DTJP5 I think, he doesn't need the latest I don't think. He has lost all the Optus apps though and I'm not quite sure how to get those back.
as the firmware is a generic version it will remove all operator apps and run as a "Vanilla" samsung firmware.
have you re-added the APN settings and recovered internet/mms access now?

Thanks for providing that detail Dan! I did re-add the APN settings... so the internet works again.
However there was an error when I opened the contacts... it disappeared very quickly, but it said something about media not being available, and returned back to the home screen.
So... not sure what's going on, but I have a few ideas on how to isolate the problem. I think it may have something to do with the touchwiz interface, so I'll try accessing contacts in a couple different ways, and perhaps also even load on another homescreen UI.
Okay so, it appears there are some system processes that are failing.
On startup I get: "The application Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Then when I close that, "The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." When accessing contacts I get: "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
So, errors aside, I cannot call others or see contacts, and I think media might also be difficult to access. When I accessed it, it was slow, but the other guy said he got an error trying to access it.
Any ideas on what's going on?

Ok so im getting a little confused about rooting. updating, rebranding etc..
From what im reading (i have a x10a), i need to rebrand this to generic before i can update.
Its a 3 australia phone on R14 firmware. When i do OTA update it says its the latest.
So I need to unbrand... then update OTA? (im not interested in root yet).
Regards,
If you just want to update the phone to the latest firmware, try through Sony Ericsson Update Service program. If it doesn't give you the latest one, follow steps 1 and 2 of the root guide.
I'm in the same boat as mootmaina. I'm keen to update my x10a on 3 Australia but Sony Ericsson Update is telling me i have the latest software when I'm running R1FA014.
If i was to update using the first two steps in the root method to flash the newer build, would this require the phone to be debranded in order to work?
and when flashed will the phone still be branded to 3 or will it be branded to another carrier?
I'm not really interested in root just yet. but would like to update my firmware.
Cheers.
Hey mate,
welcome to the forum.
As a fellow owner of the Australian "3" xperia x10, I can tell you that you've come to the right place.
I've tried a few firmwares as well as root.
What I can tell you is the latest x10i firmware literally doubles my battery life.
I use push gmail and push exchange and I used the phone quite a bit and I went from a full day to two full days after running the latest firmware for x10i
If you want to flash a new firmware only, get it from here:
h t t p forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793
just use the x10i 02 R2BA020
I myself use the SEUS debrand method which involves doing a restore of the phone once, replacing the restore file with the intended firmware, and doing another restore so that the firmware you are restoring is the newer one.
However, the flash tool should work as well.
The only thing is, if you use the SEUS debrand method, it's easy to restore back to original firmware.
As long as you don't run out of battery mid flash or unplug the cable, it's pretty safe.
Now the only reason to do root at the moment for me is to run setcpu and barnacle wifi tether to do wifi sharing.
You can't really delete too many apps as timescape and mediascape are tightly integrated.
AFAIK, Timescape is used in the main dialer program, however if you use other dialer then it's ok
Media scape is tightly integrated when you want to do an action of the photos that you take via camera, ie. going to camera, clicking on a picture taken before, then clicking on the envelope to upload the picture wont work with mediascape.
To root, just follow the instruction on the root post.
Just remember three things:
1. Make sure you have plenty of battery, the root process seems to take a lot of battery power, so when you failed once, before retrying, charge until the charging light turns green
2. make sure you DO NOT unplug the cable or run out of battery on your laptop that you use to flash. Make sure you have jre 32bit installed (remove 64 bit if necessary)
3. Make sure you reread the instruction a few times, do a dry run in your head before going ahead, make sure you understand every step before you go ahead.
I'll be here to help
What I ended up doing is:
1. Use SEUS debrand method, to try latest x10a firmware, slightly snappier
2. use seus debrand method to try latest 02 x10i firmware, a big increase in snappiness in widgets addition process, timescape, mediascape, double battery life
3. Directly from x10i firmware, run the root method and install wifi tether and setcpu
And finally, all risk is of course your's and your's alone
Have fun
One more thing, when you put a new firmware (debrand) you lose all carrier settings.
But the first step of the debrand process is to save your current firmware, so if you do so, you can always go back to the original firmware say for warranty purposes

Edit: Also i find this odd i don't have mediascape and i can Take/View pictures, Watch/Record videos with out a hitch.
I have OI File Manager installed (came with root in step 4)
Hi guys I'm also a noob when it comes to android and rooting. I wanted to know if I root my x10i can I go back to standard firmware if needed? And can I keep timescape?
I'm from south Africa and we have not received any firmware updates. I tried debranding and didn't like all the extra stuff I got in the install so I went back to my old firmware. If I root then there's no more updates from se?

Hey mate
cheers for your post it was very informative and straight forward, I too have rooted my phone to the latest 23 firmware and all when great the only thing i forgot was to make a backup of my original 3 australia sin files i dont suppose you have a copy you could upload for me incase of warranty issues ?i dont even now if using someone elses will work im new to this root thing, although i am familiar with flashing procedures as i have done many psp and xbox 360s. I love my X10 and am looking forward to the X10a generic R2 relese to get my headset to work.
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
SOLVED.
Greets.
A mate of mine forgot his unlock password the other day. At first I thought it was gonna be the same as with Galaxy S - just flash it or better yet do a wipe/factory reset in recovery and be rid of it - boy was I wrong... I tried everything I could come up with - flashing costum SW, different kernels from xda, older/newer original SW, CMW resets etc. - no luck at all.
So now I turn to you beloved XDA and ur techies - does anyone have any idea how we could reset our SGS2's so that this passwords would be gone aswell?
Solution:
Just spam random passwords (think it was 5 wrong) and then a message appears, that the SD card will be reset and a full wipe will be done - press OK and bang the phone boots normally.
In case anyone finds themselves in the same situation. You lose all your data ofcourse but the password is deleted and bang the phone works.
What password are you talking about, because a factory reset in recovery mode should do it.
I am talking about the screen lock with a password. Like I said nothing works... everytime I turn the phone on I get the "Confirm Password" screen thrown in my face
A ROM flash should definitely get rid of that, but I'm very surprised that a factory reset doesn't do it.
Like I said I tried flashing original roms (older and newer of KE2), costum roms (villian, litenin etc.), different kernels - the password is still here.
I'm stumped then mate. I've never had a lockscreen password persist from one ROM to another. I think household insurance and a brick may be the easiest way to remove it
Hehe ye I was not exactly exstatic about it either... I've been playing with roms etc. since my 1st android Samsung Galaxy (GT-I7500) and the one thing that was always persistant was "Software saves" - and now this with the SGS2...
I just tried the same on mine - set the password and flashed the official KF3 - got welcomed with the "Confirm Password" screen and just input my password that I set before and bang the phone finished with the software update and booted normally...
Thinking this thread would be better off in the development section in case anyone will have the time to look into where this stuff is stored and make a workaround (perhaps similar like the nv_data one for network unlock).
This is purely a guess and I haven't tried it on SGS2, but you could try flashing a ROM via Odin and ticking the option "Phone EFS clear". Not sure but this could wipe also the EMMC partition where I have heard the screen lock data is stored in. I won't take any responsibility on bricked phones or other problems though...
I only did try this on my wife's SGS and for it it did not do any harm.

Tut tut matey. It's a question - it's already in the wrong forum
Heh my bad about the placement of the topic
@Pume EFS is actually where the calibration is stored aswell (which is different for every phone/IMEI/RF), but yes I did try it aswell heh, also tried the bootloader update option ticked on - same story still the damn PSD (Password screen of death?).
First you can try to disable the password via adb (in recovery) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110307
If its not the right description you could try to format the data partition in recovery and then flash a new rom. No idea how smart that is on the galaxy s II but on the desire it was perfectly save. Last i believe this is a more common problem and there should be other threads around with solutions.

Oh, good to know anyway. Damn I'm never gonna put a password on mine as I tend to forget even my own birthday
You could try that again(flash a rom) without your SIM card and maybe without your MicroSD. Maybe it syncs with data and get the password lock from there.
Are you sure the password isn't a PUK lock? Try booting the phone without a sim. If it works, then the password is restricting your use of the service by locking you out of the phone. To solve this you can do one of two things:
1. Get the Sim replaced
2. Call your provider for an unlock code and GET RID OF IT in the security settings under sim-lock
Hope that helped!
Actually I always flash roms without the SD card and SIM as I've come to realise some .pit's acutally repartition your SD card aswell thus erasing it - cheers for the post tho.
@TheGhost1233
You might be on to something with that actually but now I have another problem... for some reason everytime I want to go to recovery it shows that little yellow box (the usual one before going into recovery) and then back to the dumbass PSD. So I can't get ADB working now at all.
I almost don't want to post this hehe...
But ye found a solution - spammed random passwords (think it was 5 wrong) and then a message appeared, that the SD card will be reset and a full wipe will be done - pressed OK and bang the phone boots normally

I think this is anti-theft protection, at least your info is gonna be deleted if someone steals it
Hello! My Galaxy Note 3 Exynos SM-N900 is now officialy a brick, so I guess this thread will help others to not do the same as I did. Here I go:
As you guys know, Exynos version of the Galaxy Note 3 doesn't have a lot of custom roms, so, I get tired of waiting for the kitkat update, donwloaded the Crisktelo rom 4.4.2, and flash it. Nothing wrong. The problem get with the camera, it works but takes so poor quality photos.
I tried to get back to stock, I get the Panama's TBA 4.4.2 stock firmware from Sammobile, because I am from Costa Rica and my Sammy is unlocked carrier free. Flashed as usual using Odin but the phone was the same no data was deleted, just the firmware changed. I wanted to get full wype to start again, backup everything and make factory reset using the menu on the phone. I totally forgot that the security option using Samsung Account to prevent theft was enabled. So I get to the screen of Samsung Account and get the ERR_0000 (Processing Failed) when I put my email and password for my Sammy Account. Aparently there is no way no get my phone back, this error is very weird in forums to happens and tried everything, from changing my password, by unsuscribing my account and enable it again. Flash the stock firmware several times, and as you know I can get the warranty because of the Know counter.
So maybe some of you are thinking to use that security feature, I guess if you use custom roms is a bad idea, but if you use stock there is no problem, even if your phone gets stolen, neither the thief or you can get it work again.
PS: I know ther is a thread similar to this one, but the difference is I KNOW my password and user, and this error is in the equation. So maybe I can get help or get help to others. Either way, I'm looking for a new phone, HTC One or LG G2?
As u can see Processing Error means -> wrong email/account has been entered.
Please use the correct account fro N900 otherwise u need to perfrom EFS clear
Also, can you check REACTIVATION LOCK in download mode and post result.
That is surely an expensive lesson. I guess Samsung Service Center can help you out providing that u can bring prove of purchase and be prepared for some financial charges as this kind of thing is surely out of warranty.

Indeed. My note 3 is just 3 months old, I have the invoice, I will send the phone this saturday to them, if they charge me more than $200 to do that I will let the phone as a loss and buy a new one. I'll update this thread.

You're not alone here, and I can tell you that this problem has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that you're using a custom rom, because my phone is on the stock 4.4 rom, and has never been rooted, wiped (until now), or tampered with.
This is not an "Expensive lesson," or a mistake on your part.
This is a broken feature of the note 3 device, and I have been on and off the phone with samsung all day.
So far there is nothing they can do from their end. And for those of you who are wondering, yes, you can log into your samsung account from your PC or whatever, but the activation lock will not let you in. I'm still working on resolving this issue. I think it's a problem with Samsung's login gateway to be honest. I experienced this last night at 10pm, and so far it hasn't been fixed.
So far I have this:
10pm - 7am EST: "Processing Failed.(ERR_0000)"
7am - 9am EST: "Unfortunately Samsung Login has stopped."
10am - 2pm EST: Processing failed
Between not letting me in and crashing, everything else has been pretty useless. Don't waste any more time formatting or wiping.
I CAN tell you that the minute I get back into the phone, I'm returning it to stock and putting it up for sale.

Thanks! I try to spread this info to as many people as I can, Google+, Twitter, Facebook... People need to know that Samsung is doing this, and I know that this "feature" is not well implemented, I will go to the store and try to get a replacement. If Samsung is keeping this Knox and other security "fails" features, they are gonna keep me away from their products. Please keep updating if you get your device back working.

I have had the exact same experience. A guy from tech support in the US said that mine may be trying to authenticate in the US, but since it is from Panama, it is conflicting and causing the error. He also mentioned a seemingly universal unlock code that can be provided from Samsung in the UK. I have already spent 10USD adding Skype credit in order to contact them, but they were closed when I called. I'm going to attempt it tomorrow. I will be destroyed if I have to send my phone to Panama or a similar place; the wait and customs can be aggravating.
The phone was so awesome (minus the volume warnings and skype vs call app default selection not working) before I upgraded to KitKat. I just wanted to factory reset it to make it stable :/
We should warn people not to select that Samsung Account option; it is certainly not stable.

Yeah, that's definitely not a bad idea.
If you find out anything about this "universal unlock code," be sure to post it here for the rest of us!

Will do. If you can beat me to it, here is the "elevated tech support" number US: 1-888-987-4357 and this is the number in the UK that he gave me for the probable pipe dream code lol 4401932454358.

I talk with the support in Panamá today. Because I Live in Costa Rica, I can call them for free. They didn't tell me anything about the universal unlock code. But only I have to take my phone back to the store and they will reset it. I Was wondering about what you say, how they can give you a unlock code even if they can't verify from distancie that you are the true owner of the phone?
I read in another thread here that Samsung support guys can only reset the phones verifying the true autenticy of the owner. If you wish, i can call samsung support in Panamá today and así if your phone using a firmware from Panamá needs to be sent there. I guess not but I can ask.

That would be so helpful. Please ask them about it because my Spanish sucks lol. And please report back about the reset experience.
As far as that code, I admit that it does sound fishy like most things Sammy reps say. I thought they would investigate the processing failure instead of exploring the possibility that it wasnt really my phone.
I hope all goes well with resetting yours.

Thanks again JosHeron for offering to talk to Sammy in Panama for me.
I fixed my issue I used a XXUDNA9 4.4.2 KitKat rom that I flashed with ODIN 3.7. Once I flashed the rom, the phone rebooted and then it said that it was optimizing the apps. After that, I went through all of the steps and on the sign-in screen, it accepted my Sammy account and password on the first try.
Here is my theory on what caused the issue. When I did the recovery screen (vol up, home, power) wipe data and erase all, I think that it tripped the abnormal reset thing. Im not sure if it would do the processing failed if I had reset the phone from the settings menu. In any case, attempt to reinstall XXUDNA9 4.4.2 KitKat and then try to enter the Samsung account and Password.
Detailed Steps:
I am assuming that you have a SM-N900 International Note 3. If your phone does not boot with SM-N900 on the splash screen, find the appropriate stock rom for your phone. Otherwise, you can break your phone
This process should could take 4 hours +/- 1 depending on your internet speed.
Step 1: Get Materials (Adapted from http://nasirtech.blogspot.com/2014/02/n900xxudna9-android-442-kitkat-firmware.html)
- Download KitKat XXUDNA9 4.4.2 for SM-N900: http://terafile.co/3120933f433b
- Download Odin Verision 3.07 (3.09 does not play well with Note 3 and the old KitKat): https://copy.com/zowadQ32bn9T
Step 1: Factory Wipe and Clear Cache (Adapted from http://nasirtech.blogspot.com/2014/02/n900xxudna9-android-442-kitkat-firmware.html)
- Switch off the phone
- Remove the battery and then re-insert it after several seconds
- Next, press and hold simultaneously Volume Up, Home and Power.
- Release the buttons when the screen flickers and then wait for the Recovery Mode main screen to appear.
- If the Recovery Mode doesn’t boot, then you should keep trying until it does.
- Select factory wipe with the volume up key and then the power button, confirm
- Select Clear Cache
- Reboot the phone in normal mode by selecting the Reboot option.
Step 2: Make Sure the Phone to at least 80% capacity
Step 3: Reinstall KitKat XXUDNA9 (Adapted from http://nasirtech.blogspot.com/2014/02/n900xxudna9-android-442-kitkat-firmware.html)
- Switch off your phone and boot Galaxy Note 3 N900 into Download Mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down+Home+Power buttons (long press until the boot screen appear), now press Volume Up key to proceed to Download Mode.
- Extract the downloaded Odin3.07 zip file and run the Odin3 v3.07.exe file as an administrator (Right click on the .exe file and click on Run as administrator)
- Now connect your Galaxy Note 3 N900 to your computer via USB cable
- In Odin3 screen, you should see a COM Port number like “0:[COM7]” at ID:COM section and “Added!” text at the message box. This means -your device has been detected by Odin3.
- Make sure that, only the “Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time” options are checked. Failure to do so can brick (break/damage your device)
- Now, extract the downloaded firmware zip file, you’ll find a firmware file with extension .tar.md5
- In Odin screen, click on PDA button and select the firmware file with .tar.md5 extension (The firmware file look something like: N900XXDLJ5_N900ODDDLI7_INU.tar.md5)
- Now, click on the Start button to begin the installation process, wait few moments.
- Once completed, you would see “PASS!” message in ID:COM port having green background
- Your phone should automatically reboot after completion
- You can now disconnect your phone from computer
You should be able to enter your Samsung Account and Password without processing error_0000 now.
(Update: There is an issue with the Internet browser, flash the latest KitKat to fix)
Although it is fixed, I'm still scared about what else Samsung and Knox may do. I love the phone, but the thought of $700.00 down the drain was pretty horrific.
Lessons learned: Turn off that Samsung Activation thing before reset and don't update the phone until most users say that it is stable.
I hope this helps. I'm going to get some sleep. I've spent the night obsessing over it lol

It really does give me great pleasure to announce that this method worked for me as well. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the rough, official fix for this issue is as follows: (you'll get more detailed instructions on flashing and using Odin elsewhere, typing this quickly at work)
1) Download XXUDNA9 4.4.2 firmware for the SM-N900
2) Download Odin 3.07 (it is reported that the note 3 doesn't play well with 3.09)
3) connect your phone to your pc, open Odin and select your md5 file under PDA
4) allow it to complete the flashing process and then log into your Samsung account
Thanks to everyone who helped in trying to figure this out. I'm gonna check back and make sure everyone's phone was fixed.
Good luck!

Well, finally I can join and tell that my phone is back and running as before. Thank you guys, this method is the real fix for this issue and as always, I can find better support here than the official one.
7 days without the phone was horrible, because I had to use a laggy, crashed screen iPhone 4 with those little keyboards. God, no. I repeat Thank you!

I never do a "real" backup, I just backup my photos on OneDrive, Dropbox and Google+. My sms and whatsapp chats always get lost and the others like Telegram have sync. But do you ever tried Helium?

Helium looks like it could work. I lost my subway surfer progress after I fixed the phone. With kies, it only saved text messages, photos and music, and some other useless settings. I think I may have backed up incorrectly with kies. When I selected apps, I don't think all of them were actually selected.
Anyhow, I'm definitely going to try helium. Some people in the comments said that it backed up the kind of data that I'm interested in.
Thanks.

I bought my phone in Singapore but due to work commitments have to move to Taiwan. I have signed up a 4G plan here but since then I'm unable to surf using Chrome or Samsung's default browser.
Also, I can't check mail using the yahoo mail app (it just loads forever), play store is inaccessible too, but facebook works.
My note 3 is not rooted, everything is by default from the Singaporean telco (Starhub). My SIM is checked using a Taiwanese phone and everything works fine, so I'm suspecting incompatibility between the Singaporean phone settings and the Taiwanese 4G network.
Can someone help me? Since I'm no smartphone expert I don't know what info to provide, tell me and I will provide whatever that is needed. Thanks

The APN settings are ok. My settings are consistent with the phones at the carrier's shop as well as some other google resources.
I think now I have pinpoint the problem to incompatible modem. Mine is N9005DXUGNH1, but after checking my local friend's phone, hers is N900XXUDNC1. This prompts me to go flash a new modem.
But before I do that can someone tell me if my rom is KOT49H.N9005DXUGNH1, can I use the N900XXUDNC1 modem? I don wanna brick my phone...

Since the facebook app works, the APN settings should be correct. And the data connection seem to be fine.
Are you sure that facebook app works? Please double check!

I don't think they are cache data as it refreshes and showed me updates on my feed, which is the same content when I use my PC.
I don't have any app installed that would restrict internet traffic...
I still think incompatibility modem is the culprit here... something about the Singaporean modem that does not go well with the Taiwanese 4G network. I hope I could just change the modem to one that works with the Taiwanese network. If not, worst comes to worst I will just root my phone and flash a custom rom

Let's just assume incompatible modem is the issue, can I flash the n900xxudnc1 modem to my n9005dxugnh1 rom? Or would you recommend me just flash a custom rom? (I'm actually prefer customs than my current stock as the stock rom is filled with bloatware. Hasn't use a custom rom yet on account of my warranty)

I'm not sure, but let's clarify something:
- dxu is firmware for Singapore.
- xxu is international fimrware, that may cover many regions/countries.
- I personally think xxu modem is compatible with the dxu firmware. However the problem is that dxu version (gnh1) is newer than xxu version (dnc1). That may be the problem.
- So try to download newer firmware for xxu and flash.
- You can find appropriate firmware by installing Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app > Menu > 'Firmware Browser' > enter XXU in the CSC text box and tap Go button to search.

Try to reflash again to make the modem stick.
Or extract the modem.bin + NON-HLOS.bin and flash separately, followed the instruction below:
• Switch off your device completely.
• Connect to PC and power on your phone in Download Mode (Volume Down + Home + Power).
• Start Odin v3.09 (be sure it recognised your phone and show ID:COM port number).
• Untick Auto Reboot.
• Flash MODEM.BIN (CP slot - unzip it first).
• Reboot once again into Download Mode using Vol Down + Home + Power.
• Tick Auto Reboot and flash NON-HLOS.BIN.
• If this doesn't work, try repeating the flash process again while rebooting manually and with Auto Reboot option turned off.
If you have trouble getting the Modem to stick, install Triangle Away (by Chainfire) and follow the directions to reset your counter (even if it says zero), then boot into Download Mode, and re-flash them with Odin and they should stick.

Got a question, doesn't flashing the firmware automatically flashes the modem into the phone as well?
I have tried the suggested method, but the modem just refused to stay in the phone. Now my phone can't receive any signal and reboots randomly...:crying:

Typically yes, the modem is flashed together with the firmware. But sometimes it does not stick.
Did you follow exactly all steps and retry many times as suggested in the instruction?

I just reflashed my firmware. The modem is still missing...previously i tried the method about 5 times but still can't get it installed.
I'm gonna try reflashing once again before rooting.
Here's are the steps I took:
- Boot into recovery and wipe data/ cache
- Reboot in download mode
- Open Odin 3.09
- Uncheck auto reboot
- Connect phone to Odin, after which a blue "0:[COM4]" icon shows up
- Go to AP, select my firmware (which is about 2GB), wait for Odin to load
- After loading, press start to flash.
- After flashing completed, disconnect phone from Odin and reboot manually by pressing the lock button

Think I will be opening another thread for this issue... Thank you very much for your help all along vndnguyen.
Please post here ALL of what you learned/thoughts/ideas. My goal is to get the Sprint based phone "G900P.04" Virgin Mobile users up and going.
I am not responsible for ANYTHING!!! Try doodling with your phone at your own risk!
THIS IS WHAT I GOT SO FAR:
APN SETTINGS:
Virgin Mobile Samsung Galaxy s5 as all the capabilities of flashing any Sprint based G900P.04 ROM/Tweak. However, once flashed, you will have Sprint based network APN settings/not virgin mobile network APN settings. APN settings is what allows you to call/text/LTE/send receive text/pictures. Currently the Virgin Mobile stock ROM doesn't have the option to manually set APN settings though settings/network connections/more networks. However, once flashed to a Sprint ROM, this option "should" now be available to edit. If ballzy enough to try flashing a Sprint ROM and obtain data capability PLEASE POST YOUR FINDINGS. Virgin Moible APN settings can be found at this address:
Virgin Mobile USA APN Settings
I called Virgin Mobile and told them that my send recieve text doesn't work and ask if i can access APN settings manually to check if there correct. He gave no option to view them manually. He advised to dial ##72786# which he said redoes the hands free activation process and "?may?" fix the APN issue.
Apps like the APN backup & restore is another option "if exhausting all other available options" a thread I found HERE It appears that if you know what your doing, the app will work but nevertheless, people has reported it not restoring APN settings.
ROOTING Virgin Mobile Galaxy s5 Obtain warranty without tripping knox counter:
The CF autoroot though odin I seen threads that it trips the knox counter but the "towelroot" method doesnt trip the knox counter and was easy for me.
How to:
1. Go to settings/system/security/allow 3rd party apps. As long as you know what you download I disabled "verify apps" while I'm their.
2. With your phone, Download towelroot HERE and click the red logo to start download
3. Download a file explore application from Google Play "my favorite is FX File Explorer/has secondary Playstore download for accessing root files" and install the tr-1 .apk you downloaded.
4. Read and click the option to root phone.
5. When it says remove knox I clicked "yes."
6. As mine did also, a lot of users report that the phone didn't complete/auto reset device but hung on the "removing knox process." Personally I waited 5min---pressed the home button---manually reset phone.
7. Go to Play store and download/install SuperSU---update binary's---reset phone
8.Your phone is rooted/complete.
Return to Factory Stock
Reflash the phone with the factory stock ROM with Odin can see instructions HERE
Note: Virgin Mobile users only has the option of the Sprint ROM so im curious if this will bork up APN settings...putting them on Sprint/not Virgin Mobile settings. The hand free activation by dialing ##72786# may/may not work.
Custom Recovery:
All Sprint based recoveries I'm positive will work. Custom Recovery opens up any theme/tweak/ROM capability. However, im reluctant to do so because you will not have the ability to update the OS when it arrives because it requires the stock recovery....where you have to do the Return to Factory Stock option just posted.
I've always used Philz Touch Recovery and was always happy with it. Insturctions HERE
There is a TWRP recovery but even people on the TWRP thread say that they hear good things about Philz Recovery.
Installing a ROM:
As mentioned, only Sprint Based ROMs work because it's a Sprint phone. However, if flashing a Sprint ROM through your custom recovery it should error. This is because the developer Puts a script in the ROM that only allows Sprint not Virgin mobile phones to flash the ROM. To fix this, it requires editing the ROM with NotePad++ and deleting the first few lines of code. Good thread to read how to do this is HERE
Apps/Tweaks:
Im still using stock ROM up until somebody with experience can guarantee I can start flashing ROMs without any mishapps.
..Adaway is working great.
Link HERE Couldn't beileve the amount of ad's is on the Internet...even on XDA. Just open/install with a file explorer like FX File Explorer...make sure under settings/security you check "Unknown sources" so you can install apps outside of play store
Wanam Xposed is amazing
Verified working on my Virgin Mobile Stock ROM. Install Wanam from Playstore and install frame work from HERE Now got my phone all theme'd blacked-out like how I like it. 4-way boot menu working too. NOTE: Wanam website states S-Health conflicts with it...so recommend uninstalling it.
Native Hotspot Enabled:
Install this App HERE GalaxyTools.apk. Click Enable Native Hotspot and reboot phone. "Mine rebooted automatically once enabled." Now I access my Hotspot using a playstore hotspot widget "my perfered is called Elixir 2 from the playstore. " on my home screen.
Debloat Stock ROM:
App Master is small and can go to system files and debloat all dumb apps Samsung/Virgin Mobile put on there. A thread HERE shows what Apps are safe to remove.

Rather than restoring a Virgin Mobile phone to a Sprint stock firmware we can use these firmwares instead
G900PVPU1ANE5 STOCK VIRGIN MOBILE
G900PVPU1ANK4 STOCK VIRGIN MOBILE
G900PVPU1BOA6 STOCK VIRGIN MOBILE
G900PVPU2BOD3 STOCK VIRGIN MOBILE
G900PVPU3BOF6 STOCK VIRGIN MOBILE
G900PVPU3BOG1 STOCK VIRGIN MOBILE
Notice the Product Code is VMU, which is for VIRGIN MOBILE!
I'll try to keep this post updated with Virgin Mobile Firmwares in case more are added, for convenience and reference
Here is where I got them from
FIRMWARES | SAMMOBILE | VMU
VM's stock ROMs are on sammobile.
Working are CF auto-root, and Philz recovery (via ODIN).
The latest Sprint NK4 ROM (4.4.4) can be ODIN flashed on top of the VM stuff, and everything keeps working as VM. (Towelroot does not work on 4.4.4.)
I don't believe the VM APN settings posted above are accurate for this phone. But if you do the above (CF auto-root, Philz, Sprint ROM), you should be able to get to them on your own phone.
Presumably there will be a stock VM 4.4.4 ROM released soon regardless.
I don't know that there's a need to do much VM-specific stuff separate from what's done for Sprint.
I've been having two flashable zips that I use when switching to a new AOSP based rom (like CM, PAC, whatever), so rather than doing it manually, for you lazy folk like me, you can boot into Recovery, after having checked that you properly flashed your ROM, and flash these VMU APNs. This is for KK ROMs only! If you flash the file named AOSP_MMS_FIX.zip on lollipop you will get a Bootloop.
I got them a while ago so I forgot where or who made them, if you are reading this however, let me know so that I can give cred
By the way, does anybody know how to get MMS working on lollipop? With lollipop roms I can flash the file Universal_vmu_ApnFix-v.R2.zip to get texting and calls working but it doesnt fix picture messages.
EDIT: The Universal_vmuApnFix-v.R2.zip DOES work on AOSP lollipop roms. Just do not flash the other file.
The Sprint Lollipop 5.0 OA6 stock tar posted at the following does also appear to work for VM. Somehow it does know it's on a VM phone -- VM boot logo and everything:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58662929&postcount=1
No problems with the latest CF Auto-root in that thread. Philz 6.57.8 appears to still work after renewed flashing, too.
boost mobile send the update same day Sprint relesed
Sent from my SM-G900P using XDA Free mobile app
d99x, no APN fix was needed when you flashed that Sprint OA6 onto the VM S5?

Correct. And though APN settings are no longer accessible via "More networks," an S-Finder search for "Access Point Names" still turns up the settings. Confirmed to be VM. Everything's hunky dory automatically. :good:
For what it's worth, I backed everything up via Kies in advance. After all apps re-downloaded from the Play store, a Kies restore did get back most if not all of my settings. It just can't restore apps themselves to the new build.
Anyone know the best way to root with the lollipop update installed?

The CF Auto-Root linked in the first post of this thread works, but trips Knox:

And for what it's worth, the official VM firmware is now up at SamMobile:

Whats Knox like on this phone coming from the s3, if i trip knox once while rooting, how does that affect me when I want to flash a custom rom?
i just got my virgin mobile galaxy s5. i have yet to root and want to understand this fully before i do what i would like to do as ive had experience with bricked devices and dont want a repeat of the feeling. i want a to make a list of what i think i should do and i would love it if i could get corrections on anything thats wron with my process. i and on the sm-g900p model for VM. baseband: g900pvpuboa6 and android version 5.0 lollipop.
1. (while in download mode) connect s5 to computer
2. open odin 3.9 or 3.7
3. select pda/ap and place CF Auto Root into the slot and let it run until the bar turn bluor green or whatever color means that its good to go.
4. apply a custom recovery (i personaly like PhilZ touch recovery)(i am not sure exactly how to do this. on my s3 i was able to apply the recovery via the stock recovery but i dont know if that is possible with knox and all)
5. go into custom recovery on phone and apply the latest version of supersu
6. in custom recovery apply and deknoxify and debloat zips
7. boot up phone and update supersu and run a root checker
8. do whatever with your new rooted s5
i would love it if someone could tell me if this is a tested method or if i am missing something or doing something wrong. any help would be much appreciated as i really dont want anything to go wrong. i also would love it if someone had a link to philz touch recovery that is properly compatible with my version of s5 (sm-g900p VM)
It's not critical, but the latest ODIN is 3.10.6:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451
PhilZ is at the following. You can flash the latest 6.57.8 tar.md5 the same way in ODIN. Remember he's no longer developing or supporting this, but it works for now.
https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/klte/
You do not need to flash SuperSU via a custom recovery if you don't want to. You can add/update it just fine via the Play store.
You do not need to apply the de-knoxify and debloat zips if you don't want to. If you want, there are other file manager programs out there that you can also use to "freeze" Knox (if it makes you feel better for some reason), and to debloat manually yourself.
If you mess up badly, you can use ODIN to flash the full restore TAR from the following (extract it first). Though it's in a "Sprint" folder there, it recognizes it's on the VM variant of the Sprint phone just fine.

thank you. the philz recovery i was using was too outdated and caused me some problems. and cf auto didnt seem to want to work. however the recovery you gave the link to worked flawlessly and allowed me to flash the supersu update and gain root.
my next question is weather or not it is safe to flash a sprint stock android L rom and keep my calling, text and mms, and 4g data seeing as i am on VM and not sprint (i do know they are the same phone internally but coming from a VM s3 i needed to flash a APN fix everytime i flashed a new rom to keep things working)

I read somwhere that this may be the case this time around aswell, dont know 100% though
The Sprint stock ROM recognizes it's on a VM phone just fine. What's been issued is identical. On a VM phone, it sets up everything for VM -- boot animation, APN settings, everything. There is no need to flash an APN fix or alter any settings to adapt it to VM. That's why when people have tried to start Virgin Mobile threads here, there's been little to no response. There's virtually no need to do anything unique to VM when it comes to the S5. What works for the contract Sprint, works for the pay-as-you-go Sprint, aka VM.
I have not tested non-Stock ROMS, and don't know what you may run into if you start experimenting with custom Sprint ROMs on the VM phone.
If you want to alter your APN settings (though there should be no need on the stock ROM), you can search "Access Point Names" in S-Finder in the drop down menu once the ROM is installed.

I would think that if you were to flash Cm 12 you would have to follow it up with some sort of apn fix

thats more so what i meant. ive realized through a little research that using a sprint rom on my vm in fine. i believe this is so because unlike most other VM phones (such as my previous Galaxy S3 VM) the Galaxy S5 uses a VM sim card. something that i found unusual but suspect is the reason for never haveing to change anything ( please coeect me if you know im wrong on this information because right now im working with this as a hypothesis). however i dont know what will happen when i install CM12, which is something i want to try out. my VM S5 doesnt have a Data Toggle in the notification tray which annoys me to no extent. i cant seem to find a way to fix this nor can i find in the stock lollipop rom that the phone comes with. ive always loved stock lollipop and ran CM12 on my S3 but the community for it on Android Forums was huge as still is, so finding how to change the APNs on the VM locked S3 was easy. this isnt the case with the S5 neither there nor here at XDA. i either want to fix my data toggle on my stock rom so i can keep my fingerprint scanner (which for me works more times than not) or switch to CM12. i dont know which is the better option as far as keeping everything working.
