Hi,
I'm looking for a software solution that allows to connect an Android phone via USB in order to use the connection (WIFI or cable) active on the PC. It can be seen as a reverse-tether.
This was possible by default on every windows mobile phone via active sync.
Is it possible with Android?
I'd like to ask the same question

Find pdanet on the android market. Free version only lasts a month but its worth the 20 or so to buy it. Plug the phone into the pc, run the app, run the software on the pc, and voila you'll have a wired tether.

Ok but that's not what I'm looking for. Pdanet allows you to use the 3G internet connection of the phone with your laptop, what I want is the opposit: use the active connection of the PC with the phone.
Ahhh ok, my bad. Should've read a lil better and saw reverse tether lol. Maybe PM a dev asking if that's possible, or post in a general section if anyone would be willing to make an app like that (if possible) for you.

I use the application "Virtual Router"
with which I can set up my pc/laptop as an access point. I set up a SS-ID and a passkey. Then I use my phone to connect using WiFi. That way my phone connects to my pc using WiFi which makes it possible to use the LAN internet my laptop has
phone -----WiFi-----> Laptop --------LAN-------> Internet
Hope it helps
PC Internet > Router > Wifi > Android : Connectify
Laptop Internet > WIfi > Android : Connectify
PC Internet > USB Cable > Android : no idea! (my ex HD2 can do this flawlessly, with Winmo ofcourse)
So the situation is I am renting and using the wireless network in the house (Router is upstairs). My laptop connects fine but my phones internet is laggy sometimes because the router is kinda far. So im wondering if I could connect my phone to the internet via my laptop.
Windows 7 and my laptop is connected to internet VIA wifi so I dont thin Ad-Hoc will work...
Gary~
Yep, Microsoft recently added support for virtual routers
http://www.connectify.me/
Just install that app, you will be up and running in minutes.

Thanks man, this is great.
BTW, what version are you using? Cause I downloaded the newest version and it wouldn't work so I downloaded an older version v1.2 and it worked. Seems like its a known problem.
Im using 2.0.1
I seem to remember that i had trouble to start with but it was windows firewall misbehaving.
can use that too? i am using windows xp and i have internet from USB stick - can i make a wireless network so my phone can use it too ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
it seems it is for windows 7 only
any other aplication out there that can do this with XP ?
Im afraid its only compatible with vista onwards ...
EDIT: You should be able to set up an adhoc connection with your phone though

I believe the ability to become a WIFI Router is built only into Windows 7 (I could be wrong though). I use Connectify (www.connectify.me) on my 7 machine... I haven't checked the site lately though, might be worth looking into.
- Ive been trying to use the built in wifi tether and usb tether and neither work.
- I'm able to connect to the wireless AP but i cannot get an IP address
- Ive tried PDANet and that works, so i can only assume other third party ones will also work.
- I have an HTC Desire. Ive tried using OpenDesire (many, many different revisions) and Oxygen. Both by AdamG, but i doubt it makes a difference.
- I can tether with the built in Froyo tether function on a macbook pro. Which means the problem is with Windows 7!
Am i missing a step?
A couple times to get it to work properly on my Droid, I had to run a command prompt as admin and force an IP renew for my internet to connect/work.
using Wireless tether for root I was able to use my internet from the 3g on a windows 7 laptop (incurred a HUGE bill from Vodafone UK, they know I didn't use my phone to browse and charged me) but it worked.
...I cant believe doing a release renew worked lmao
thanks!
No issue on stock Nexus
I use Wi-Fi tethering almost every day; it works even better than USB tethering with my old Nokia phone. I have a stock HTC Desire as designated in my signature and a Sony VAIO with Windows 7 Professional x64. Tethering to an iPad also works great.
PDANet only does USB and Bluetooth as far as I can remember. Anyhow, I think the fact that you can't USB tether points to a Windows driver issue. Strangely enough, I've had driver issues myself - then I realized that I don't need USB. I just use an FTP and Wi-Fi tethering works as expected anyway.
Useing Wi-Fi tethering every day & USB tethering once in a while with no issues. It's my Nexus FRG83D to Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Sounds like your PC drivers...
I already fixed it. Thanks.

hi,
I have a Dell XCD 35, it is Gen2 with 512 MB ram..
I am quite happy with the phone, for I hardly do anything beyond making calls and navigation. However, I am stuck at sharing this phone with my laptop internet connection as
1. My laptop runs a Vista Home..
2. Dell XCD35/ ZTE BLADE wont detect Ad Hoc connections.
3. Tried reading various forums and have now realised that either I have to upgrade my vista to Windows 7, else get a stand alone Wi Fi router, or I have to root the phone and do some wpa supplicant... change.
4. I have absolutely no clue/ experience about rooting a phone or writing/ editing command lines..
Is there any application available in the market, that shall enable my XCD35 to share vista Laptop internet connection?
If not, are there any other ways, you can connect XCD35 to a Vista Laptop.. using Bluetooth or USB cable?
Thanks in advance
I don't know much about this, but you can try PdaNet.
