[FIX]GPS Dropout Fix - EVO 4G General

If you're having problems with your GPS continually dropping out, particularly on the new Gingerbread release, try downloading GPS Status from the App Market and reset your AGPS data.
In GPS Status,
hit [Menu],
then [Tools],
[Manage A-GPS state],
[Reset],
Optionally you can [Download] for new A-GPS data
I tried it on CM7 nightly 36 and apparently I'm getting quicker locks.
[Update 01]
Apparently, that first method works for some, but not all. There is a second method, but it requires you to be on a Sense Rom (Stock HTC based). I'll add it here. More people say that this works better, but I was reluctant since I was already on an AOSP Rom (CM7), so I would have to flash back to a Sense Rom.
You will need your MSL code for your phone
Using a Sense Rom,
go into the Phone Dialer,
and Dial ##GPSCLRX# (##4772579#)
(Reboot)
Here is the original post by SantinoInc: GPS Fix (GPS Reset)

Were you driving? That has been stated numerous times to only work while not moving. Or to only work for a short period. I did the ##GPSCLRX# fix and have not had to worry since. Getting down to 6m accurate whole driving.

Please forgive my ignorance, but how do you type letters on the dialer? I tried using the number key with those letters (works out to ##4772579#) which didn't work. So I feel appropriately humbled. How does one run that code, please?
GPS Status works fine, but I only use it for this; so, if I can not have another app on my phone that would be great.
Thank you for your time.

Must be flashed to a sense rom and type that into the dialer as stated above

I was also having GPS problems with the CM7 ROMs. I restored a Sense ROM and ran the fix using the dialer, then restored my CM7 ROM and my GPS worked perfectly. However, I just flashed to the lated MIUI ROM and now my GPS is taking a long time to lock. Had maps open for 10min on my drive into work before it locked on. It did eventaully lock but it doesn't seem to work as well as it use to. Wondering if this is a MIUI thing??

Im in Japan on a seasonal stanby for three months
so i dont have service, just paying 9$ a month
Im trying the ##GPSCLRX# on a sense rom so i can switch over to a 2.3.3 rom
I put in my MSL and did the reboot
i opened maps and have been waiting for around 30 mins for a lock
and NOOO success
It just will not lock!
Is it because im on Seasonal standby?? and not using phone service
My GPS is on and im using wireless networks turned on
its still moving around not locking
ahhhh!!!

My gps would not lock and the icon would just disappear after a few minutes. I was able to get it to lock using the steps for 'GPS Status' app, but I had to do it again the next day. But after closing out of all the apps, the gps icon was still there and would not go away.

There was no need to start another thread on the GPS fix; it's been posted for quite awhile now.

No, even from Japan with no service you should be able to get a lock. In fact you should be able to get a lock from anywhere with NO data at all, but you do need a data connection to download the map data and see a map overlay of where you are (obviously), and also you need data in order to download the GPS "cheat sheet" A-GPS data. But it sounds like you have other problems, perhaps your ##GPSCLRX# code didn't take. Did you reboot all the way through? try it three times in a row and make sure that you do NOT use any app that can access the GPS device after the last reset before flashing an AOSP rom. That includes the market, the web browser, maps, latitude, navigation, etc. After the second time you reset it, try shutting it off entirely in the control panels.

GPS fixed on CM7
Hello,
I tried everything said in forums about gps fix but I had no gps on CM7 nightly and had no problems in sense roms. I do not remember where I found someone recommending a kernel for gps fix and another people said ##GPSCLRX# solution should be apply 3 times in a row to be effective, so I tried both, I have gps working perfect on CM7 but I cannot say which method was the solution.
This is what I did:
- Made a backup, of course.
- In Ginger-AleV2 (sense rom) I dialed ##GPSCLRX#, then enter my MSL, reboot automatically. Returning from boot I repeated this step other 2 times.
- Go to recovery (I have Amon-RA 2.3) and restored my CM7 nightly #86, then I flashed #87 (in same session, just wipe cache & dalvik before), then flashed GoDm0de-v8 kernel (in same session too).
- Reboot and checked GPS, working perfect since more than 8 hours.

after you do the gpsclrx command and it reboots you NEED to open the google maps or similar software, let it lock and track for a few minutes, then reboot and nandroid back to cm7

Just for giggles, leave your GPS on when you flash CM7. That was what finally worked for me.

GPS Aids - Need feedbacks

Hello there!
I'm getting reports about "GPS Aids" not working with Vibrants. Some users with Galaxy S phones and GPS drivers from Vibrant got the same problem.
The app it's on the market. So the first test will be install it and tell me if it is working or not.
Regards...
Original post at > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955395
Went onto market, searched for and downloaded the app.
It wouldn't download the GPS aids... it kept saying "connection detected" then it was unable to downlaod the data.
When I enabled the root option (brute force) it finally worked.
Testing GPS now, will update/edit with results.
Maybe you should try the Themes and apps section, not trying to be a mod Just saying it might help get you more testers.
Okey.. I have a user in the spanish forum with a Vibrant. And the native mode it's working fine for him. Will ask for ROM version. Thankyou Bignjuicyjc
@Bignjuicyjc are you using a different GPS driver from stock? Like the captivate driver?
Hello I tested it out the other day. currently am on trigger v2.1 (froyo). Installed it, popped it on with default settings and tried out gps test app. Normally I eventually see 11 sats in my area Minneapolis,MN USA. With aids I saw 3 and never locked on.
So went into the setting of gps aids and deleted gps data and forced it this time around. Same deal: takes 3x as long to find any satalites, finds 1/4 the amount of sats and never locks on. In google maps/navigation my locations was off by almost 2 miles. Rebooted and deleted gps data and tried gps test again. Same results.
Had to delete data, uninstall the app and restart my phone before I could lock onto anything again. Some people in the vibrant community say this has helped them alot. And then theres people like me where it made it worse. Hope that helps.

Install/Uninstall don't change nothing. I think that it is something related to the GPS driver using in ROM. Do you know if your ROM is using a captivate driver? Or other different from stock?

I too am using Trigger... but V2.5 which if I'm not mistaken uses Masters GPS fix.
But then again, I also used Samsung GPS restore app from the market AFTER i had flashed Trigger.
It seems since using Gps Aids the GPS is "seeing" more birds but not locking on to any.
Will continue to test.
does this work on Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-I5800?
Does this GPS Aids works for my Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-I5800 mobile phone?
This phone is Android 2.1.
This phone's GPS currently does not function well. It is very slow and take forever to get any GPS reading, is any.
If I to apply your GPS Aids to my phone and it is not the correct patch for this phone, is there anyway I can go back to the original firmware?
Thank you.
I loaded it last week on my Vibrant, it works.......... No Big Great difference since I have Masters GPS fix previously installed, but it does work and the locks are about 10 sec faster
Tried it and installed and downloaded properly on first try. Didn't see much difference at first, but when I went to visit friends in the middle of nowhere, I got locks when my gf's captivate couldn't. It didn't show up in the market for her captivate, but I sent the apk by email, installed it and it also got the gps to lock in. So here's two votes for it working.

Flash it thru Clockwork Recovery
I've had mixed results. It works for some customer roms and not others. It is confirmed working on Bionix and Auxura, but I didn't have good results with Trigger for some reason. Thanks for the app. I'm locking on 6/13 satellites indoors and 11/13 outdoors.
Feedback: Last week. I installed GPS Aids on my Vibrant and it downloaded the file and appeared to work quite well. But, 2 days ago, I developed a problem with something not related, and had to do a factory reset. Since the reset, I can not download the file. I keep getting a messaging saying it can't download Xtra and to try again later.

GPS fix CM7 DHD

After endless searching for the gps solution i've found a solution.
I've tested it and can confirm it works.
All credits go to the developer of faster fix (Bernard Bekker)
So here are the steps:
1. Download the CM7 rom ( I'm currently running the built #15 nightly)
link:http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=ace
2. After installing the rom and gapps set it up as you normally would.
3. Download Fast Reboot from the market (and install it).
4. After installing the Fast Reboot, download Faster Fix from the market (and install it).
5. Now turn off the gps (not in the notification bar, but in settings).
menu/settings/location
6. Run Fast Reboot
7. Run Faster Fix, and select your country and hit Go
A pop up should say: for example "Done set to:nl.pool.ntp.org" as I live in the Netherlands.
8. Turn on your GPS and reboot.
Now when you use the Google Navigation you should have a fast and steady fix for your GPS.
This won't work if you turn off GPS and on again.
In this case you have to reboot your phone!!! Remember to turn on the GPS bevore you reboot your phone!
It is not nessesery to repeat steps 1 to 7, just 8.
Just tried this and got instant GPS lock when I walked outside of my office. THanks for posting this.
Seems to work. Thanks for the information.

Maybe I am doing something wrong but I just followed these instructions and when I rebooted the phone froze on the splash screen. Had to recover and flash my nand. Have you heard of this problem?
No, i never had this problem, mostly if you make a lot of changes, reboot in to recovery and flash a .zip and than reboot, you might end up with a bootloop in the splash screen.

Just to inform you guys, if you are using a gel case on your Desire HD, it's going to have a noticeable impact on the GPS lock time, from two minutes down to only several seconds.
I have confirmed this with my Case-Mate Gelli, and there is also a video by someone else on YouTube showing this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUyhxm2NtDU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Faster Fix will still help with the lock time in both cases, so thanks to the original poster.
Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I have an HTC Desire CDMA from USCC with CM7 RC4 running.
?permanent fix
It worked but is it a permanent fix or every time you want to you GPS do u have to turn it on then reboot to get it working again? Thanks
Evo4g / Sprint, worked pefect (saved me from a lot of reflashing)!
Tnx
I still find the GPS to be very poor on my DHD. updated the radio, applied this fix and it still takes a long time to lock, even when outside. Its almost as if agps isn't working at all.
Just a thing to test
Menu>settings>applications>development
Make sure "Allow mock locations" isn't checked
I suffered with terrible GPS reception for weeks until I noticed this was checked. Now I get on average 3-7 yards accuracy, fixing in about 3 seconds
Also didnt work for me. Have flashed a few different Radios and ROM's, does anyone know a highly recommended Radio for CM7 and gps? (preferably on UK Orange if that matters / makes a difference to gps).

After Flashing to Overcome 1.2.1....GPS is not working correctly.

Ever since I flashed to Overcome 1.2.1 the GPS has been VERY wonky and just plain WRONG. Maps says that I am in the next TOWN which is a good ways away.
GPS Locks are extremely few as well and takes forever to lock on to.
Can anyone else confirm this and or help?
Bumping this up.
When you flashed, did you wipe your cache? With a new rom it always takes a while to reaquire your location. I use the app HereIAm2 from the market to get that first position lock after a rom flash.
Yes I did wipe the caches. Will try that app out if it is free.
Thanks.
EDIT: Noticed that the compass seems to be very inaccurate as well. Weird.

Oh well, that's the least of my probs;-/
i have installed OC 1.2.1 and at one point the whole tab became very sluggish....and all sort of issues appeared such as slow browsing.......then the tab would simply freeze! Reboot did not help at all....
I have since installed OC 1.2.3 with the new kernel and it went ok-ish. But today after rebooting i have all sort of errors (broken messaging service, when i click on the wifi tab to switch on, it says 'error'.etc).
I wonder if others have this sort of probs. I cannot understand how it can work fine for a few hours and then.....kkkkkkkk.
I have the UK tab version with firmware JK5; Also cannot figure it out why it does not show 'overcome v1.2.3 on the build number...it still shows v1.2.1, kernel overcome 97.
I'll have to reflash the lot now.......how annoying.
I am sorry that you are having problems. However hijacking threads is frowned upon here.....
Welcome to the XDA Forums otherwise.

The app is free.
How many roms have you flashed? Maybe it's time to do a factory reset, then flash the full version of the rom/kernal.
Well it did the trick and put me in the correct spot but the compass is still completely wonky.
Oh and this is the first ROM I have flashed. Overcome 1.2.1.
There are apps in the market for that. You want to calibrate the compass, so look for a gps utility. Sorry I don't have one to recommend to you.
Not a problem. I appreciate your advice and welcome any others as well.
One thought about the compass - do you have your tab in a case with a magnetic clip?
Mine works fine out of the leather case, but not when it is in the case.
Just a thought.
No I don't.
To test the GPS to see if there was any interference I put my iPhone 4 into compass mode in maps and did the same with the Tab using the Maps program.
The iPhone 4 was spot on....however the Tab was wrong yet again.
So that means there is no interference.
I am stumped here....and the recalibrate apps did not work either.
Just thought I would try a catch-up.
Since my last comment I moved from Rotos JMIv2 to Overcome 1.2.3 and my GPS also stopped. After 24 hours however, I have got it going through a the use of GPS Status (free from the market) and the LbsTestMode which you can access either through a dialler code or through SGS Toolbox, also free from the market.
To cut the story short, I went from just finding about 3 satelites (with no connectoins), to finding and connecting 10 satelites.
I must say that I am very happy with the current ROM and with the GPS Status program.
Hope this helps if you are still having problems.
I believe that if you dont have wifi or 3g on the tab GPS will not work..

GPS never works after Froyo

hi all.
Ever since I went from Froyo to Gingerbread-based ROMs (and since then to ICS) my GPS has never worked.
AngryGPS doesn't find a single sattelite after 15 minutes, it just like the GPS is dead.
All ROMs I try claim to have a good working GPS, however none actually works.
The GPS lock icon, which should be blinking, is there but not blinking.
Since most people claim to have a working GPS with ICS, could it be a problem with the phone itself?
(I always try the GPS after a reboot)
Thanks for your help.
Been having the same issue, i have tried tens of solutions and flashed tens of fixes, i even opened it to try to fix it and it still doesnt work like its suppose to. Google maps never get my accurate location, its usuallly about a mile off, mapquest however is able to give me turn by turn navigation albeit its often late in its guidance. Very frustrating.

Well, I do use ICS passion right now and I did use eugene's kernel at some point in the past (maybe with MIUI, don't exactly remember).
Anyway none of them had working GPS.
My phone was manufactured at July 2010. Could it be some old revision with GPS problems? Although I did apply the hardware fix back when I was using 2.2, which did help back then.
This is why I'm sadly back onto 2.2. GPS still sucks but better than on GB.
I did everything possible to get GPS to work on GB. I've done the hardware fix, I've flashed everything possible, and the only time it worked was after each reboot, and only then temporarily.
Agree 100%
GPS in ICS is flaky. It usually works right after reboot then it's a gamble. A few times it would work for me for a day, sometimes second run of GPS Test doesn't bring GPS icon up at all.
To make things worse, external GPS support is equally bad. I have a feeling it uses the same driver/daemon.
Obviously there's either not-so-compatible driver in kernel or the API is broken.
ABC
Try a app from the market called GPS Aids. It does help for me.

Unfortunately the "donate" version does nothing but ask for donations.
I would kick in something if it actually worked, but not on speculation.
GPS at least sort of worked with stock (whatever was on the phone when I got it used) but never at all with any CM build, including with various fixes applied. It at least sort of worked with Onecosmic's ICSSGS, at least once, maybe with some fix or other applied.
A quick update : Turns out, I need two conditions for the GPS to work:
1. The phone needs to be after a reboot, so it didn't go to deep sleep
2. Data connection (WiFi / 3G) should be enabled before you try to get a lock. Even when you use a satellite-only location! I think it downloads the satellite data from the internet. When you get a lock, the data connection can be disabled.
This is the only way I could get my GPS to work in ICS. Even in ROMs that promise the deep sleep problem was fixed.
Cyanogen never let me down, I was usually using some kernel that a worked with the ffc mod, but I literally never had a problem. Also try any miui with angry GPS

Samsung Galaxy S2 Stuck Searching for GPS

Hi,
I have a S2 and a couple months back I didn't have any problems with my GPS. Now however, whenever I open the navigation and type a location, it finds me on the map and highlights the route to take, however at the bottom of the screen it says "searching for GPS" and therefore does not starts the navigation.
I have rooted the phone last month. I am not sure if this is the problem and I don't know how to unroot the phone so I can't check if this is the problem.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
Open maps first, wait for it to locate you in maps. Then exit maps and re enter navigation address and it should work
Happened to me when i Got an alluminium case

Thanks for the help. It seems to work when I open the maps first and then open the navigation later like bundi22 said.
Why is it weird like this? Is there anyway of making it work by opening the navigation straight away, instead of going onto the maps first?
im having a similar issue, 7 to 10 sats in view, no fix, happened on the last two days, before, fix was in 3~5 secs, anyone?

Hi,
I have a S2 and a couple months back I didn't have any problems with my GPS.
Thanks

Hey guys what I found worked really well for me was to use an app called fasterfix from play store to change the ntp server to my country which made it much better (resets on rom flash) also mobile data works much better than wifi for a fix and very rarely it just gets stuck so a quick reboot might help!
I'm having the same issue since yesterday, just not finding any GPS satellites, but it was fine two days ago.

Use GPS status fron store. Sorts all my issues
Used that and then faster fix, hasn't helped yet. Will keep trying different things.

Hi sorry to hear that but does this issue persist across reboots? I doubt the problem is due to rooting but sometimes it can help to either wipe cache and dalvik or re-flash your rom. I have had random GPS issues on some firmware versions but for me personally DXLPB has been the best. I would start by trying small changes like wiping caches first though and save changing roms for later if this is your only issue. Also, sometimes performing a full wipe can fix small bugs like this but a full wipe can take a lot of time so let's save that for a last but possible option! Good luck with it though, I know how annoying it can be if the GPS plays up!
The ROM I use: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
The Kernel I use: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1555259

I've got the same . Not sure if the weather has got anything to do with it. it has been very cloudy for x days here in Scotland.
I have never had any problems with gps until now. About 10 satellites in view but no fix. It drives me crazy because I run with endomondo using gps signal.
I read about mods that improve gps fix but I can not find it now.

Great tip mate, had issues with getting GPS Fix after flashing CM9 but used your fasterfix app tip, selected UK and bosh, not getting fixes on 10 satellites Thank you very much sir, saved me flashing another ROM.

Are you sure you used fasterfix properly? Did it actually changed your Current Server? My one by default was set to an american/canadian one, hence why I wasn't getting any fixes. Changed it to my country and now it works like a charm .. Select your country/region and hit go and make sure the server link in Current Server updates, then use GPS Test app to test your GPS.
What rom are you guys using? I've noticed that my GPS sucks since installing XWLPM (Russia 4.04). I tried flashing back to a different modem but it didn't help. I'm patiently waiting for a new 4.04 ROM which might help the situation out. I've tried fasterfix as well as several other programs but it doesn't help much. My phone used to get a gps lock within 10 seconds indoors and within 5-7 seconds outdoors. Now it takes minutes...

I'm currently running on CM9 nightly, stock CM Kernel, KH3 modem. Try testing out a few different regions in FasterFix. Use the GPS Test app to test your GPS. And, obviously, make sure you're outside or close enough to a window to get a clear signal.

Maybe Oceania. I'm not too sure, best to choose the reagion nearest to you and if that doesn't work try a different one.

I live in Sweden. I've tested: stock XWLPG; RR with kernels: CM9 (not the last one though), Siyah 3.4.1, NEAK 2.1.1; CM9 RC2, CM9 0721.
Results:
- Instant GPS lock on stock XWLPG (blinking icon, fix within few seconds) and on RR (no blinking icon, fix within less than ten seconds) but only with Siyah and NEAK kernels. No problems whatsoever.
- Unfortunately both CM9 builds and RR with CM9 kernel gave horrible scores. It took 4-8 minutes to fix.
I find it really hard to believe that gps problems are weather-related (at least in my place).
Samsung's GPS always hard to link the satellites, it must work with A-GPS assist, you can download faster fix from google play, and assigned a agps sever near your region, that's helpful
