it's because the ruu is signed with test keys, not the release keys, so not everything is showing up.

Most of my purchased apps are gone, and they include Basketball, Toss It, Flight Control, and a few others..quite disappointed as I did the RUU install via the .exe file and so far, haven't found a way to undo it and go back to DamageControl 2.1...

Not to laugh about this, but maybe if that RUU had been kept hidden in the bowles of someones computer that wouldn't have happened. This is what drama does....

lol very,very true!
RUU has test-key. thats means no protected apps. You should have flashed one of the many roms based on this RUU(damage, fresh or darchlegend even though its based on the Legend RUU). There already set to go.
Anyway I can do that now?
Lol, not to sound like a jerk but we knew this. I started the thread because I was wondering if anyone else knew which programs were affected. The whole idea behind loading the RUU was to test it out. It would be great if everyone didn't come in here and tell us how we should have loaded a custom ROM. Most of us probably came from a custom ROM to this, like myself.

Sorry, that was just your first post to the forum, and it had no implications that you knew how to do anything whatsoever. I was just going on what I read from your post. I was guessing you just joined and saw the RUU and flashed it. I am sorry.

Manually push flash_image to /system/bin >> You have to give flash_image permissions with adb
Code:
adb shell chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
>> Root and reflash recovery (use this guide, except substitute 1.6.2 instead of 1.5.2 recovery (or use whatever recovery you want)>> Then reboot into recovery and nandroid back to your original build. You can even nandroid back to Fresh 2.0d and you will retain your new PRI.
If you have never made a backup, then download whatever ROM you want to try and use flash from .zip in recovery to flash the new ROM.
I included flash_image if you need it to push. This is not a .zip file, but I had to add .zip to attach it here. Rename it without the .zip or push it by typing
Code:
adb push flash_image.zip /system/bin/flash_image

Wow, is this easily done? I'm missing root manager, but otherwise am liking the leak (minus sprint crap).
Also.notice quick boot isn't working, but I'm sure its fixable, I just haven't looked or may not have the experience to get it going.

Yeah it is pretty easy, just need to get your build.prop, then in wordpad, if using windows use wordpad not notepad, just have to make a few changes. After that you clear the market cache. When I did this last night, none of the protected apps showed up, however this morning they all did. So for reason it may take a bit to work right but it did work. Just checked and root manager is showing in my market too.
I'll just post one I found online. If you adb push this to /system/ it should work.

@Kcarpenter, maybe dont post inflammatory stuff like this and instead be helpful and we wont have drama?
@Jlem
Good to see you got it going. You should share your build.prop (or link to instructions) so others that may have made the early (and quite risky) install of the RUU could get it going. That would be a nice thing to do
Personally I think you're crazy for trying that RUU!!! hahaha ! I'm glad someone did, and I hope it all works out for you.
edit:And you did! good work

2 & 4 Going to try the same method that was used for Droid2 and DroidX. Create module for OC. I have not had time yet to look at kernel but I see someone is already creating kernels so should be able to do it from kernel with multiple settings; not sure if kernel behaves same way as it does in Droid.

Thanks Angdroid for the system dump. I downloaded a copy of the system dump for kicks. I will keep it on my hard drive in case anyone loses it and needs a backup copy.
Hopefully we can create a stock boot.img soon for us wifi owners in case something goes wrong or need to return it to factory state. It looks like from the system dump we have access to the stock bcm4329.ko wifi driver.

Do you think it's possible to extract languages in Wifi firmware to flash 3g xoom?
Or flash with entire wifi firmware?
I don't think the adb pull way is the best way at it.
Creating an actual image using dd will retain symlinks and mod perms (not owners).. but it also won't dump a bunch of tiny >1kb files on your computer (whose cluster size may be over 4kb).. plus you can mount it as a loop device..
adb shell
# busybox dd if=/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/system of=/mnt/sdcard/system.img
and then if you want
adb pull /mnt/sdcard/system.img
but I wouldn't.. just using the mtp interface is faster..

What do you mean? are you talking about the ./system/vendor/firmware/fw_bcm4329.bin
I just compared the two system images for both devices
fw_bcm4329_mfg.bin is the only file with a matching checksum..
I gotta run.. otherwise i'd check the version with a hex editor..
I doubt you're talking about the wifi firmware anyways..

Hey everyone! I am back with a new question / challenge for everyone. I apologize if this sounds too N00B! I searched in the forum and cannot find a solution.
I am trying to make my Galaxy S4 TOTALLY R/W permanently. Rooting only makes the system directory r/w but there are other directories and locations that also need to be accessible as well. When I was back on the MDL firmware I used a linux command to make the entire drive and phone (everything) R/W using the Terminal ... and for the life of me I cannot remember how I did it.
Can anyone help me out with this? I sure would appreciate it. I am tired of copying files and pasting and tricking it to do what I want when I assign permissions or modify a file. If I remember correctly I ran some linux command that made the ENTIRE phone read / write accessible permanently.
Thanks to anyone who can help!

No disaster. I am just sick and tired of constantly using work arounds when I'm sure there is a way to make the entire file system read / write. I had it this way using the MDL firmware. The only way this would turn into a disaster is if a user got plain stupid with it and deliberately messed with files that he knew weren't to be messed with. Also the comment earlier about a "simple chmod 666" is kind of funny because not all of us are guru's with linux such as some of you are. Please be easy on the guys trying to learn and give back to the community also. Everyone was a N00B once. Don't forget that! -smiles- Anyway thanks for the replies. I will continue my search for the fix!

I still wonder what it is you are trying to do. Honestly I can't see much of a reason because most things I do are done in Root Explorer (hands down the best file explorer and worth the price) and it's merely clicking the button to make R/W and then altering what it is I need to do. What firmware are you on by the way ? You stated you were on MDL but not now. I might only assume you are on one of the more locked down firmwares like MK2 or MF3 and maybe it is not possible.
The chmod comment was not a dig at anyone and he was asking if that is what you are trying to do as in linux cdmod 666 makes the file system R/W.
What other directories are you trying to make R/W ?

Wasnt trying to be cute. Open terminal, type su chmod 666 /path/to/folder. As others have said, be very careful what you're setting to rw. Chmod is command to change user perms and 666 is rw.

the link below will allow you to revert back to stock unrooted 11A.
after that you can take the OTA to 12B, reroot via IORoot and then use FreeGee to install recovery of your choice.
This has saved my phone a couple times from me getting too cocky with screwing around with things i don't fully understand but think I do.

Ok man here ya go, did some digging around here and found these two threads that may help you.
First is a means of pushing TWRP via ADB, not sure if that is the answer for you by you never know till you try.
Second is a means of using Ubuntu or a VM to replace the corruption caused by OTA

If those do not work either the only other thing I could think to do would be to get on the lg-g2 IRC channel and request help from a dev that is online.

No worries on the questions man, here is the guide I was talking about. It is pretty straight forward but some areas you may have questions I will let you know what I did.
At one point it talks about setting up system variables or something to that effect. I did not perform this step.
When you open the SDK manager and look at all the packages that are listed it can get a little confusing, for me I just selected all and let the install run it's course. ( took about 20mins ).
Once the install is good it talks about moving a copy of command prompt to the platform tools folder. Not trying to insult your intelligence but it is that simple. Just locate where the .exe for command promt on your computer is, copy it and paste in the platform tools folder.
Once that is done turn your phone on and then plug the phone into your computer. Open the command prompt from the platform tools folder and then type the following:
adb devices
it should populate some brief info about your phone. If not then usb debugging is not enabled on the device. This is why I think this one may not work for you because if it isn't already enabled not sure if there would be a way for you to enable it with the state your device is in, but there are two other ways in the TWRP guide that i already posted about that may work plus the second thread talking about using ubuntu.

Does it say:
"adb" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or bath file
If so the command promt isnt executing from the platform tools.
attatched is a screenshot of two CMD windows, look at the location listed before where what you type in shows up.
the location on the left is from the cmd opened from the platform tools folder, the one on the right is from opening up command prompt from where it is originally located on my computer. when you open yours compare the locations and let me know what you got.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or simply explain real quick how to properly root the T-Mobile variant. I'm running full stock (Obviously) I'm on H91810j and would like to debloat a little and use greenify. Any help is appreciated.

There is literally speaking a thread dedicated just for the sake of rooting and twrp lol. Here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/h918-recowvery-unlock-v20-root-shell-t3490594
It should take about 3 to 5 minutes to complete the whole process if you know what you are doing. If you are a noob it might take sometime to figure out were to go from one step to another
Also, just remember, there is a search function on the v20 section's main screen. You can always use keywords and the function will search what you are looking for (if someone has posted something related to That). As French prople says... "Bon chance|"
P.s: yes. The rooting method by jcadduono works for 10j

Oh. The adb i used was from a pixel thread... The one posted in the rooting thread seems to either be missing a file called lib.... Something i forgot the name lol; or they did open and close immediately like it happened to you.

Right click run as administrator? Yes I have. Still can't get this to work. I'm using WinRar idk if that's the culprit or not. It's always been reliable.
Here, use this.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
Best for noobs.
It it asks about system wide say yes.
Then hit Windows key and R and type cmd. Then run your commands. The installer should also work.

Wait. I forgot to tell you. You cant double click the files. The files can be accessed only by using cmd. (command promt). So, extract the files into a folder, and use cd or pushd in dorect it to the directory where the files are. That is the proper way.

For starter... Whats the directory where you downloaded and extracted adb fastboot? Assuming you are using the file i sent you. Was it on the downloads directory? If so open cmd (not in administratibe mode) and type pushd Downloads . Then ise all the start the adb server by using adb start-server to recognize your device. Or if you want to even see if your device is even present type adb devices

You could use the desktop but it is more troublesome to type the directory. Thats why i suggest to put it on the downloads folder and asked you to not start the cmd as administrative. Because when you dont start it as administrative, cmd will start right from the users folder and then is only a matter of writting pushd Downloads. Focus on the first part first. Otherwise you will go nowhere lol.

Okay I got into the download folder using cmd (pushd download) i tried doing adb and hitting enter after and it brought up a bunch of lines after that. I did adb devices and it shows my phone but when I do fastboot oem unlock it just hangs at waiting for devices. USB debugging is on and so is OEM unlock.

but are you in fastboot mode now? because after you have done the OEM unlock and then after that use usb debbugging then accept the prompt it shows about giving authorization to your computer, then after that you must go to fastboot mode to start the process of root
