I hate to start a new thread, but I'm sure I am not the only one that wants to request a Galaxy S build. Preferably Vibrant, but Captivate would work too.
I hope devs look into this as IMO the Vibrant's Touch wiz interface would give everyone something different to look at. I personally like it over Stock, and MOST definitely over Sense.
Just a thought...
I'm hoping that there will be an end to the many slightly different versions of sense and hope we will see galaxy s, droid, streak builds looked into soon.

Hmm!
I think that we may not need a build for this but an .apk for Touchwiz that we can install over a Clean Stock Rom.
I noticed one on the forum a while ago.
If this is of course what you are meaning:I never had a Galaxy S before and don't know what else it got.

I do remember it was only about 2 ~ 3 mb and considering the size maybe a lot of things where removed to make it compatible with other devices.
Ok,I will Google a little to see what's the Galaxy S got

why do you prefer the Samsung software over the all mighty sense UI !!!
al mighty? the sense ui is hideous. For me personally, i cant stand having a 240dpi on a 4.3" screen. Even though 180 sounds worse, thats the setting we change it to for icons to seem like the actually fit on the screen.
Also, why do we need 10 versions of Sense? Why not have the option for the TouchWiz interface. It's fresh and something new to look at. Plus, there are little things like the lockscreen, when if you have missed calls or messages, you drag a puzzle piece into the blank spot that matches what you want to instantly view when you unlock it.
their widgets are also very nice. anywho, i would just enjoy something different. And others would too.
I agree to what he said
agreed it would be a nice change of pace, always good to see something new.
just my opinion...
plus i know the vibrant has an incredibly high frame rate
well.. i had a galaxy S... the first thing done was to use launcherpro and get rid of that hideous touchwiz!
check the forums of those devices... people are asking for vanilla or sense roms
I had a Vibrant, touchwiz was the laggiest piece of software I've used and changed the whole android experience.
i want this cant wait to somebody pull this out there hats

To be fair on both sides , the new Sense on Desire HD has lower dpi for menus, etc so it looks much much cleaner ... and since HTC seems to have recognized that aspect I am sure in future the launcher and widgets will also be improved
+1 , i would deffinatly donate, the main reason i want a captivate/vibrant rom is for the video player! my friends vibrant video player plays a 480p .avi video flawlessly, while my hd2 plays it terribly while looking all blurry, but on my friends vibrant its sharp, i know theres a screen size diffrence but still it shouldnt make the movie look that much worse.
and im thinking the problem may be the media player cuz the ones ive tried dont go full screen like the vibrants
I sold my galaxy s for my hd2 and am so pleased I did as I now get to run sense ui or nexus builds. touch wiz was terrible iphone like and laggy. you can download some of the widgets from the galaxy s forum section but they are not a patch on htc sense widgets. The only good thing about the galaxy s build was its camera app

Exactly, once you actually use it, its terribly laggy and not very well put together. I can't blame you for wanting something new but I think everyone would get sick of it quick.

Some launchers I've collected from users here on XDA. The "Launcher2" is the 7-homescreen T-Mobile G2 launcher....exactly like the Nexus One launcher but with 7 screens instead of 5. You will need to remove the cooked-in launcher to install all but the TouchWiz launcher. Using Astro file manager, nav to the "System" > "App" folder and locate the launcher and delete it. Then do a reboot. *You will need to install Launcher Pro in the interim to have a launcher at bootup.*
You will want to make a backup of the whole Android build prior to deleting the cooked-in launcher in case the chosen one doesn't install.
The LG zips contain various widgets which will install even if the launcher doesn't.
i dont get it. lower dpi makes it crisp?!
less pixels per inch = better image?
im really confused.

The below explanation is based on what I was able to recall from good ol college days
WVGA Res - 480 pixels x 800 pixels
Screen Size - Whatever the HD2 has (too lazy to check )
Anyways the above 2 are fixed parameters. Now what dpi means literally is pixels per inch (lets not go into more details here)
So if you fit more pixel in a single inch of screen, effectively your widgets get less space on the screen to fit into. (DPI 240)
And if you put less pixels, the same widgets fit in less amount of space in screen so it looks like a higher res (DPI 180/200)
I hope I was able to convey what I meant
I've just checked out a couple of vids on Youtube of the MIUI rom on the Mytouch 4G. It has some nice looking animations, but I don't otherwise get why an Android user would want this rom. It looks like an iPhone - the system takes a big steaming dump of apps all over your home screens, and no launcher. It seems like a step backwards to me.
Can someone who uses this rom please convince me otherwise? What does it have that I can't get elsewhere?
I used to think the same, but when I gave it a bash it was VERY smooth! And with Launcher Pro on it, near perfect.
But there are so many more settings you can fiddle with on CM, I always go back to the best.
Flashed a CM7 nightly this morning,.... AMAAAAZING!
So you CAN install a launcher on it? I got the impression that you couldn't. Hmmm, I might give it a try when I have some time. What's battery life like - one video (admittedly for the MT4G) said it was pretty crap. That same video also said that RAM usage was considerably lower than Sense, which interests me.
Yeah man, standard MIUI launcher is junk IMO, no app drawer? Huh? Definitely get your launcher of choice on there straight away.
From what I remember (since November ish) battery life was ok, RAM was vgood. Yeah give it a bash,... the guy who has done the port has updated quite a few times since I tried it.
I love the standard launcher after 2 years of seeing either stock android launcher or ones similar to it , it is a nice change of pace
I didn't like miui at first but it grew on me. I was constantly trying to find the app launcher it runs fast and you can customize the heck out of it!
Sent from my Pear phone.
I was really impressed with it, actually. Very lightweight on the system.
If you don't like the lack of drawer (I hate it...thinking a hybrid with an app drawer would be perfection) you can get stuff tucked away in folders, or use launcher pro.
It just looks and feels so fresh and clean...but it's just not what I personally love about Android. A great option that's totally different.
It's also a great UI for iphone converters...

Thats exactly it, MIUI is just like an I phone without restrictions! You can add, take away and do anything You want with it maintaining its beauty and speed! Ive tryed every rom, after playing w/ rom's UI for a few minutes I went bak to MIUI. Theres nothing like it try MIUI and you'll never go bak.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I gave it a try, but those iPhone-esque menus had me running for the hills - it just seemed wrong!
In the last couple of days I've been through the stock Sense rom (too heavy on the hardware), MIUI (just no), Enomther's Official (battery life poor) and CM 6.1.1 (battery life poor). I'm currently draining the battery so I can charge properly and wipe batt stats on CM - hopefully that will help. But if not then I'm going to have to roll back to the stock rom, which is a real shame because all the others run so quick even at 800mhz...

i have been running CyanM since went to Android with tthe N1 and I can say its making me think! I like the polish. The initial setup was a little slower because of the lack of app draw and having to tuck things away. After that I can say I am really digging the Rom
I really like the notification put-down with the toggles at the bottom. Looks so good and super functional.
Edit: but I use virtuous as my daily.

I've finally settled on a ROM - Sparksmod Extra HotSauce. Basically CMod with loads of pretty icons and animations. I love it so much, it's satisfied both the need for speed/lightweight on RAM, and having the eye candy to show off.
Install a decent laucher like ADW EX or LauncherPro (which now has transition animations too), and it blows anything else away. I can't recommend it highly enough. My iPhone-toting friends are jealous as well.
At first I didn't like it... Then it grew on me.... Then I didn't like it again (had too many apps on homescreen)... Now I like it again..... I like just installed Touchwiz launcher (I know.. Wut? ) and love it again IMO Touchwiz launcher is like MIUI's with an app drawer xD (I prefer though )
my question is : why not
the easy theme-ing + change icons / pull down widget = win
if u dont like the iphone-ish look, put ADW EX on top of it
i do like how i can organize stuff with the folders
that + the ease of uninstalling apps when i dont like them,
it sucks having to wait to go through setting and wait 30 secs to generate the whole list.
oh the smoothness too
Seriously... why not?? I use miui for a few reasons..
1. Bad ass lock screen.. by far the best. IMHO (Music control, custom wallpaper, quick launch phone and messaging app) yeah you COULD just use widget locker.. but that slows phone down and drains battery life.. not as sick as default miui I think.
2. Themes.. the themes available look amazing, completely customize all your icons, better than you can get with adw, lp or any made for cyanogenmod.. and you can mix and match what themes parts you want applied.
3. Notification bar.. toggles on the pulldown are great.. ya you can do basically the same with cyanogenmod, but not as polished IMO..
4. battery life isn't an issue for me.. or ram.. basically the same as cyanogen 6.1.1... haven't tried cm7. So no input there.
5. Updated every Friday. which is nice..
Yeah its iphone-ish since all the icons are uniformed.. and menus, I don't spend all my time changing settings so menus don't bother me.. easier to navigate then stock android IMO but with icons I actually like that about it.. I use adw launcher ex. So I have a launcher.. I don't use the stock launcher with miui. Personally I don't care for it.. i hate apps on my homescreen... IMO they belong in the launcher.. widgets belong on the homescreen. But that's just me.. to each there own. I switch between cyanogen mod 6.1.1 and miui... I just nand backup each so I can switch between both whenever I feel the need. there both esentially set up the exact same. Same apps and launchers.. I'm been on cyanogen mod since I had a mytouch 18 months ago till miui was ported.. it mixes things up, I don't think it takes away from android.. it gives you the best of both worlds in my opinion..

I have to say, that Im loving the Miui. Sure, it comes with no app drawer and it looks too close to an iphone, but one thing I give credit to apple, is the glossy and high resolution look to their icons and layouts.
I use Launcher pro and it makes me a happy Android fan. I get to load new themes with the least amount of effort whatsoever. Its amazing how quickly you can change the look of your phone.
The lockscreen is the best ive seen. I dont experience lags for a rom that is quite stylish and has so many features. The customization on this rom is out of this world. There's a setting for anything Ive wanted to change (minus changing the color of the notification bar).
So, to summerize: It runs fast, it looks really good with easy theme changing ability and it lets you customize the heck out of it.
The battery life is decent. I havent noticed a major difference between any of the roms ive tried when it comes to that. Btw, I have been on CM 6.1.1 and supervillianz and the default sense. This is the only rom that made me NOT change and try other roms. Im quite happy with what I have. Why look elsewhere
Moved over from the Droid X (where I had been running Apex). I'm pretty excited to have a nice smaller form factor (only complaint if any is that the screen isn't as bright as the X).
Where should I start looking to play with this? Im sure it will take me a while to catch up on what's happening in INC world.
Custom software. Coming from the Droid X, this is the real advantage of the Incredible in my opinion. I don't know how far you got into rooting, etc., with your DX, but if you hit that point of running into the bootloader, you're free
I'd suggest Cyanogen or MIUI if you want to run AOSP.
If you want to run Sense, Lou's Redemptive Revolution is fantastic, as is Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo.

If you haven't done so already, rooting is always good
Unrevoked makes it painless, just follow all the instructions exactly
Then I'm assuming you'll want a custom ROM...
There are 3 basic categories of Sense ROMs, Inc, Evo, and Z. Inc is based on the Incredible code, Evo is based on the Evo code, and Z is based on the Desire Z code. Functionally there isn't too big a difference between Evo and Inc ROMs, just be sure to get the Incredible port of a ROM if it was originally an Evo ROM. Z ROMs, however, have the new Sense interface, with native theme support, sound sets, etc. However, in the Z ROMs 720p video recording doesn't work, and they're generally slightly less stable than Inc/Evo ROMs. They are usually stable enough for daily use though, and offer the most features. From your Droid X experience, you probably know about a lot of the AOSP ROMs (CyanogenMod and the like) but the Incredible has some noteworthy ones, namely MIUI (iPhone and Android made babies) and the Liquid Metal ROM (port of the Acer Liquid Metal UI).
Have fun with your Incredible
Ah nice starter info guys thanks a lot! Flashing process the same to get back to stock like the X was with SFBs or this a different process now (could also be done with clockwork).
Also remember that you probably have an SLCD display vs. the original AMOLED displays. Although the rooting process is the same, kernels are different. Check my sig and a few of my previous posts for more explanation on this.
In a nutshell some of the kernels do not have the SLCD drivers, so everytime you flash a rom you are going to have to flash the appropriate kernel.
Cheers and welcome.
SLCD yes I have a issue with it and I have to be careful of what kernel is baked in since some of the baked in kernels will not let my phone boot! I always use Invisiblek #28/#34 for ASOP roms and I like Lous Kernels other roms!

This may sound like a stupid question but, have you turned off the automatic brightness and changing it manually? When I manually turn my brightness all the way up, I can barely stand to look at it.
No I have the brightness cranked up. It's quite a bit darker than the X screen.

Thanks. I haven't dived into any ROMs just yet, but certainly plan to. I'm trying to navigate around the very small differences coming form the X that I miss (mostly having to do with the address book).
Wow this is a little intimidating coming from just loading a zip file with clockwork. I better get my reading on.
I have a feeling you will like the incredible much better than the X. The most notable difference is that the bootloader is unlocked so you can change the kernel. There are many very nice roms for this phone, the most notable ones I've tried being CyanogenMod 6 and 7, Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo, and Skyraider. I haven't tried any of the others but I'm sure they are of the same quality I've came to expect.
I went the other way. It was soooooooo much smoother/easier to flash roms on an Inc. I mostly used miui and miss it BAD. I love the DX size but miss the options available with the Inc.

Hey all - looking for some flashers' opinions on MIUI. What do you think? Do you like it? It looks really slick and very functional, but I feel kind of lame flashing something onto my Android that looks so much like iOS lol, like I'm trying to be a poser But to those of you who run it or have tried it, what did you like and what did you not like?
I would maybe be running Launcher Plus Pro over it, so I'm also curious to hear what people think of the whole system, not just the home screen...?
Its a wierd looking rom. Kind of hard to navigate, is not user friendly in my opinion. The UI is too complicated and not so easy to use. I also didn't like that it doesn't have an app drawer.
I also got alot of fc's with that rom. I don't know. Just alot of lil things I didn't like.
MIUI is great! even though it does resemble iOS. It's smooth and responsive and I haven't had any force closes. What I noticed is I don't have to download an alternate launcher, sms app, browser, etc. I guess some bad things are no app drawer but I just organize all the apps into folders. Also there are a lot of settings you can mess with and the UI takes some getting used to but I think thats the fun of flashing new ROMs, something new to play with. Try out thederekjay's ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060415 I'm pretty sure you'll like it too! And make sure you read everything before trying it out. =p
this rom looks very nice im give it a try when i can and let ya guys know what up thx
I know some people really like it, but my PERSONAL OPINION is, if I wanted iOs, i would get an iPhone.
I have tried it twice because after my first try it felt like a gimick and too iphonish but I liked the icons. After the second useage I missed the drawer and I also got a lot of fcs. What I did to satify my Miui taste was download the MIUI launcher. Its made exactly like ADW and looks like MIUI with a drawer and you could add icons.
Thank you all for your opinions! I'm on the go right now and can't flash it, but will when I have some time to play around with it and test it out. Like I said, I'll likely be throwing LPP over it to use as my home launcher, so I'm curious about how it runs system-wide, not just the aesthetics of the launcher...good battery? Good data connection and speeds? I'll likely be trying the demonspeed MIUI rom by derek...I know the settings menu and just about everything is different from AOSP/Sense, so I'm curious to try something new...
I have flashed both Evil D's and thederekjay's MIUI roms and I love them both! tdj's demonSPEED rom is blazing fast and never had any real problems with it(the problems I did have were fixed very quickly ). it does resemble iOS, but more customizable. yes the menu options are confusing at times, but after a while you get used to it and know where everything is. I also have used both ADW EX and LauncherPro with no issues with both roms. battery life is awesome, I got 26hrs on a full charge. some advice: make a nandroid backup and just flash one of the MIUI roms, preferably demonSPEED, to get a feel for it. cant hurt to try it out its a very fun rom. plus netflix works
Lets not forget the Cool Things you can do in it. The New Version 1.5.20 has the MIUI Camera and this Camera is Really Good. It Auto Focuses and is very fast when taking pics. Plus when you get a MMS you have the option to save the pic and also crop or rotate it how you like. Then lets not forget about the Flashlight while pressing home on lockscreen. Comes in handy if you need it for a minute. And the Dialer has an option to record calls, if you might need to after authorization from the other person first. Those are the main things that i like about it but overall its really great. Oh and the Gallery is light and loads really fast. Especially if you have a lot of pics like me.

not to mention the pull down is really neat and if u long press the icons it takes u directly to that option(thats one of my favs) also much like Sense, it has the abilty to flip to silence and quiet ring on pickup.. Eh maybe does resemble iOS in someways(and boy do i hate apple)... but imho it takes the functionality from different manufactures/developers and mashes them into one... the dialer is second to none, with t9 capabilities, to the little details in tells u(for example missed calls, the number of rings before they hung up, that's just neat) the sms/mms is beyond that of any stock rom... searching for contacts is a breeze... i honestly have never used a rom that is so functional right out of the box without the assistance of 3rd party apps... battery life is great and the way it utilizes the ram is beyond awesome..the launcher may be really iphoneish but it looks amazing with how the icons r sized and just the graphical dispaly alone is great! not for nothing, if the only thing holding u back from MIUI is the iphoneish look, i would suggest downloading it and using it for a week... i was the same way @ first but now i wont look back!

hmmm not sure where u get "plain" from... there is really nothing else like it.. plus between features and how u can customize it... but hey thats ur opinion and we r all entitled to one..
I really like MIUI look, but never could see a point in using it since it looks horrible when I jack my LCD Density to 160 or 140... so kind of defeated the purpose.
If you are using the default 240 density (not sure how anyone can use this phone at all at that density personally), it's actually a pretty slick/clean looking interface IMHO.

It sounds like either people like it or hate. I used royalginger for sometime with launcher pro plus. It was fast and smooth but battery was less ideal with launcher pro. Stock launcher was too plain for me. So I tried thederekjay's MIUI rom for kicks and loved it. Takes some getting use to coming from CM7based rom. Tons of customization to modify the look of the phone. Runs very fast and smooth. Great battery life. You should give it a fair look with a test drive to see if you like it.

LCD Density Changer
i wouldnt bother flashing it just because it looks so much like iOS.
So I flashed it earlier tonight, and tried it for about an hour...in the end, my personal opinion was that I wasn't crazy about it. It was fun to play around with something totally different than the usual AOSP/Sense roms, but the aesthetics and overall look and feel just wasn't doing it for me. Maybe it's because I've gotten used to the other android os options, but it didn't seem as refined and classy as some of the other roms. To each his own, but for me I'm going to flash to something else.
But to thederekjay, thank you for your hard work on the rom! I could see why some would like it, and the rom itself felt smooth. That's the great thing about having options We can all flash and run what works best for us
Only found out the other day this was possible lol
By changing the density you make everything on your screen smaller which looks good. Asop roms work much better with this. Sense roms not as much. The launcher stays the same size and odds and ends.
Try it for yourself
Apps are on market
LCD density changers there's quite a few
Just thought is say for the uninformed roms like absolution has an inbuilt option in there tweak settings for this to happen..twisteds ics Rom comes standard also with this well the one I flashed anyway.
