Is fixing permissions safe yet? My launcher pro loves force closing on me a few times a day.

I found this on one of the threads, tried it and it works.
Copy packages.xml from dbdata/system and paste to data/system.

Ok I did that in root explorer.
Then I rebooted because LP ALWAYS force closes when i turn on my phone, and I can confirm that this does fix it.
I don't know where you read that but thanks man
EDIT: The file is goneafter a reboot WTF! back to force closing ): is there something i can edit to make it stick?

Tried moving launcher pro to system/ app
And rebooted and that fixed force closes

Installed rom / Gallery not showing SD

After I installed / tested the new roms on Rom Manager, my gallery will not read my SD card..? I d/l'ed a gallery from the market for a temp fix but does anyone have a clue as to how to fix it?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I find that gallery reads the SD card during boot-up.
If you mounted the SD-card after boot-up, or added file to your sd after bootup they typically don't show up until after reboot.
This is after many reboots.

Delete it from system/apps and reboot. Delete cache in stock recovery. Pull the gallery apk out of any of the roms here and put it in the same place....reboot.
You should be good to go.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
If you still have "My Files", you can use that to open the photos into the gallery.
push that into system/app
should work..
Awesome! Thanks guys...
I will be at my laptop tonight to try it. We live on a sail boat so these things take time...lol

Well I tried all that.I even wiped and added gallery 3d with a new rom. Still doing the same thing..

I finally fixed it! I used es/explorer to cut and paste the contents of the camera file into them out of another folder. It seems to work fine now... Thx for all your help.

Market .apk

I flashed midnight rom and then emotionless beast. I then wet into the black market and it was working fine but couldn't download on 4g so I cleared cache and data and it started force closing
So I said ok, lemme switch it with the one in themes and apps labeled "working"
I was able to delete the vending.apk with the sdx app remover that was posted in there, but I couldn't delete the com.android.vending folder because I was using terminal emulator and it wouldn't let me remove it
So i unzipped the blackmarkettest2.zip by accident in andro zip and saw the .apk so just tried to install that, but it kept saying its not installing, so I went and redownloaded and flashed blackmarkettest2.zip an the market wasn't there
Then I remember sdx madea backup of the old vending.apk inthe rom so I restored it and it kept force closing when I would try to look at an app in the marketplace
So I think my problem lies in the fact that I was never able to delete the data/data folder
Is there anyway to do that through terminal emulator? I can't get root explorer. Too much money. And before some of you say $5 is nothing to a $500 phone, don't try to count other peoples moneys please and thank you

Hide / Rename Apps from App Drawer?

Hi Guys,
There are certain apps that I would like to hide from the App Drawer in my Tab since my friends are literally all over the tab and snooping around in my messages or photos or even password protection apps. Could you tell me of any possibility of Hiding apps from the App drawer or probably RENAMING them to a less catchy title?
Your help is much appreciated,
cheers!
There's only two ways of doing this.....
1. Route your phone and then using a Root Explorer rename the App.
2. Use an alternative Home App.
If you use Launcher Pro one of the options it has is to hide Apps from the App Drawer.
You would have to go back through the menu to un-hide them but it might work for you.
Launcher Pro
Menu>Preferences>General>Hide Apps
Btw, you have ****ty friends...

Put a password on your lockscreen.

Beards,
Thanks for the reply. Now, i have rooted my tab and currently on Roto JMI v2. I have installed root explorer. Could you please guide me how to change the name from within ROOT EXPLORER. I mean, the directory / path of the apps? I tried myself but no luck
Cheers & Much Appreciated!
You should be able to simply mount the system/app folder and rename the App in question.
Can you confirm you have done a reboot.
If so Root Explorer should work as normal.

I have done a reboot, and can see various files in the root explorer along with the option to mount. But I am unable to see the apps that I have installed from the market. For example : Catch Notes is one app I installed but can't locate it in root explorer so that I can rename or modify it.
Cheers!

Sorry but if the App is not showing in a search you must have a problem with your rooting or the file manager.
Installed Apps would show in System/App
Easy work around if they aren't super tech savvy. Get launcherpro and hide the apps in question

For some reason, my gallery app was causing my xoom to stay awake 100% of the time and I had no idea why...
So I just deleted it...

Nobody?

This is why you never want to actually delete the file but instead rename. If you are using a ROM you can just reflash the ROM over it, otherwise, here's the gallery files I pulled, push these files to /system/app/
thanks a lot
Hey I had the same problem,,,did it work, deleting it? I saved it then deleted it and it still says my xooms battery is using 56 percent of my battery LOL when it is gone?

As soon as I deleted it it stopped draining battery

You could have extracted the apk from the rom or even used a third party app like quickpic.

I tried to copy and paste them but its not working. What should permissions be set to?
Sent from my Milestone using Tapatalk
It's the same permission as the others in the /system/app directory. It needs to be 744, rw-r--r--.

You check the appropriate boxes. There are 3 columns with 3 boxes each total 9. Check all in the left column & 1 St and 2 md in the middle column. Leave all others un checked. Reboot

So close, but not quite chmod 644 /system/app/*.apk
The apk's themselves don't execute. The dalvik cache executes But as far as Gallery not sleeping, maybe it is trying to sync Picassa or something.
yeah, you're right, it's 644, still not fully used to the permissions in linux -_-

[Q] Lg Gallery Application not Reinstalling

Hello all,
My device is an ls980 running rooted, stock kitkat. About a week after the ZVC update (kitkat), my Lg Gallery application stopped working. It would not open, giving me an error message saying that "gallery has stopped." So I tried an "uninstall" application from the market to uninstall the stock app, and then I attempted to restore/reinstall it again. Every attempt I have made has been unsuccessful and the app cannot be installed.
So my question is: how can I get the Lg Gallery application reinstalled and working properly?
Thank you, I appreciate anyone's help greatly.
How did you uninstall the stock gallery from the play store when it's not available on the play store and I'm sure the reason it's not installing is because the app needs to be placed in the system/priv-app folder and needs to be given the correct permissions
Sent from my LG-D800 running stock kk, rooted with philz using XDA app
I uninstalled the app using a "system app uninstaller" application. The APK file is still located in my system/priv-app folder, and I have even tried installing it from there using root explorer. What permissions need to be applied?

you apply the rw-r--r-- (0644) and then reboot, the phone should say android is upgrading and it should be working again

Those permissions are already applied to the file, but the APK still refuses to install even after a full reboot.

I copied the odex file over to the priv-app folder and added the permissions, but after a reboot, the gallery still will not install.
Perhaps the file is somehow damaged?
Well here's my gallery apk

Hmm, this is very odd. I continue to get the same error. I guess I will have to continue researching the issue for a solution.

very odd indeed maybe you should find the apk/odex for your device or maybe placing them somewhere else like system/app

I was able to get the app installed again (although it did it on its own after a reboot and some tinkering...); however, the gallery still cannot open as before.
