[NOOB "guidance" from FREQUENT FLASHERS]¤*Best ROM* ¤

Firstly, I want to say that I am doing this just to get everyone's own personal view on which EVO ROM is the best. Before I get all kinds of hateful posts just hear me out. I want to know what you think from your own personal point of view and why you think it's the best. For those who switch ROMs daily, post and tell some pros and cons of each maybe. Tell me why you like it, what you like about it, which of your needs it meets, which it doesn't. And so on!!! I think this could be a good thread for the noobs to learn different things about different kinds of ROMs and what the different ones have to offer. Thank you XDA community!!!!!

Destroyer is awesome. Very fast and awesome theming. VaelPak is also really good b/c it's so unique and customizable. IMHO, if you're new to flashing, you need to try, CM or variant of, Miui, VaelPak, and a Z ROM (MikZ or Warm Z).
For sense ROMs, Unleashed is really good. Very fast/smooth and awesome theme options. Best sense ROM IMHO. MikFroyo is also very fast. I can get good battery life out of almost any ROM, but EViO 2 stands out in that area.

ive flashed alot of sense and about all of the gingerbread roms. the gingerbreads are fast, but too high maintenance for me. sure some will say that its stable for them but 8 out of 10 in the cm threads are trying to work out bugs.
theres also a lot of fast and fully functional sense roms highly themed. depends on what the end user whants out of their rom, functionality, look, batt, etc..
i like a bare bones stock sleek looking optimized preferably lightly themed rom. thats why im currently running Miks 4.6b2 ODEXED themed by Chogardjr. i removed all of the useless stuff, its faast, rock solid stable, great battery life and everything works. IMHO!

I have used almost every setup there is, and most are pretty good, except they all have an issue or 2 that makes me feel incomplete when it comes to my phone.
Sense Roms: King's Ultra Froyo and Ultra Froyo 2, Koni's Elite 1 and Elite 2. ALL of those are pretty equal. Very fast, smooth, beautiful looking, but no matter what kernel I tried, battery life was garbage. One thing about my phone is I tried almost every NetArchy Kernel there is, I bet, and never got a good battery on a Sense ROM.
Miui: I can see why people like it, but I just don't like having all my apps on the desktop and switching to LPP takes away part of the allure of havng Miui. The theme changer wouldn't install any of the themes I downloaded. Plus, I had issues with screen flicker, but I understand I did the update wrong, so that may be where that came from. Also, I spent over an hour alphabetizing my apps... damn OCD!
CM7: By FAR the best battery life, with the kernel I use, SavagedZen 009, but the GPS navigation thing is an issue. I take my phone off the charger at 6AM, and by 11PM, after moderate to heavy use, I'm never below 50%. Still, I want those Sense Widgets. LPP has them, but in People, for instance, you don't get the user pics from Facebook, and all the entries are just the stock Android image. One other thing on CM7, that is intolerable, is that it takes a coon's age to copy anything to my SDCard. I did a back up, and reformat the other night and it took an hour and a half to copy my music back (just under a gig), for example
Right now, I'm running Destroyer, and the battery isn't as good as with nightly 14, but it's pretty good. BEtter than with any of the others I've tried. And whatever issues people have with this, I'm not having them. Everything is working good. Very fast, too.
For me, the best, most complete ROM there is, is VaelPak 3.2. It has everything you want. Almost like all the different Mods were combined to make one insane ROM. More custumization options than CM/Sense and MiUi put together, puls packs of goodies that come with the ROM installed on the SDCard. I can't remember why I took it off now, but I think it was the battery life, again, was horrible. Dropped 15% in less than 2 hours with the stock kernel. Although, I didn't keep it on long enough to really test other kernels with it, and there are a few that people using it say give them fanatastic battery life.

I love my CM7 nightlies. Nuff said!!!!!! <3

Well I just started flashing ROMs about 9 months ago and started a basically sense roms. I didn't really like them bc of limited customization and they were a little slow and battery was horrible. From there I stuck with an AOSP rom for about the past 6 months until a few weeks ago and read up a little on MIUI and tried that out for a whole 6 hours and hated it. I couldn't stand all my apps on the screen and no drawer. Really got on my nerves. Then tried out that Unleashed and was happy with that for about a week til I really started doing some reading up on CM and decided to try it out, loved it and everything about it. So now I'm a supporter of them, but am super stoked to try out this new SZ ROM. Think that might be the new rom of choice for me.

Not sure why anyone hasn't said this yet but Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5 is the best in my opinion. Might not have been updated in a while, but in my experience is the fastest Sense rom with lots of eye candy while still looking sleek/professional without going overboard, the best battery life (16 hours heavy use 30 with light use/good signal), and everything works. I know that AOSP roms have wimax now but gps has been hit and miss with every one of them (for gingerbread at least, I don't care for any 2.2 AOSP roms). Navigation definitely did not work.
I loved Evervolv and Savage but again, not everything works the way it should. Myn's is just the best daily driver. Battery life is phenomenal, I haven't been able to get more than 16-20 hours out of an aosp rom.

IMO (never h):
All the Sense ROMs are the same. They are just the same stock ROM with some heavy theming and maybe a custom tweak here and there ... but IMO if you're going to flash sense you're better off just checking the themes section and getting the look you want... because that's what they are.
Also keep in mind that Sense is likely a dead end as it is. I have doubts 2.3 will ever land on EVO .from HTC/Sprint... meaning it will never come to fruition in any Sense ROM. So it's a dead-end thing to support anyway.
AOSP is a different story. These are truly custom, already ahead of Sense if you're a version buff (2.3.3) and tend to run faster, smoother, and with A LOT less bloat. That said they aren't all flowers and rainbows either. Because they are actually scratch written they tend to not be feature complete (though team WIN is quickly changing that) so make sure you know what feature is missing and if that's a big deal to you.
That said, CM is the AOSP leader. It has the dev support, and most AOSP ROMs you'll notice are based on CM because they are nice enough to release under GPL rather than the default Apache agreement most others use. I like it for what it is, and it's the "best" if you like vanilla Android and want to follow what Google is doing with thier OS.
The other "best" IMO MIUI. It's behind CM in terms of the latest Android base (though GB is finally in the works), and it's closed source so it is missing things available in other AOSP ROMS ... but what it does bring to the table is amazing. It's better in battery, faster, the built in apps are worth paying for if they ever make it to market ... its an amazing ROM.
I secretly have wet dreams of MIUI and CM having an Android love child and bringing me my dream ROM ... until then I flip back and forth between the two.

I'm running a special rom called "dirk diggler rom" and if you want to use it deposit 500 bucks in my PayPal . P.S its better than any rom YOU will ever run on your evo lol.

The answer depends on your needs. For instance, I don't like the look of Sense but I also need 4G, GPS, Bluetooth and Camera working everyday. That limits me to a Sense based rom until CM7 stabilizes those things. For now, I'm getting by pretty well with Nonsense. It's not been updated recently and has minor flaws but the important things work for me everyday.
No one ROM does everything well. It's all about trade-offs. When you know your own needs, the filtering the choices should be a lot easier.

+1 on destroyer buddy! and its very stable!

In my experience with cm7 at least, scrolling in the browser and touch response has lagged for me compared to sense. Savage and evervolv seemed to be better but nothing comes close to the responsiveness using myns warm

Tried miui and cant live w/o sense.
Heres my thing, all the sense based roms are pretty much the same just different icons(themes), but if I have to flash abunch of stuff just to make a rom work right, I'm out

I've tested several ROMs on my DZ and now I use Vision Unity.
It's basicly a 2.1/3.0 Sense hybrid ROM giving you real eye-candy.
In the latest version (1.29.0) I found some bugs/disadvantages:
- the homescreen does not rotate on keyboard open
- sometimes it lags a bit
- it takes about 300 MB ram after start, leaving you just about 70MB free (other roms are much better in this criteria)
- I experienced already few times sudden phone restart (phone just lying on table, no aggresive apps run like 3d games etc, and after few hours I take the phone and it asks for PIN) = pretty critical if you wait for an important call.
but among the roms I've tried, this seems far the best if you decide to have HTC Sense. If you can miss sense, stick to CM7, there are really cool features like finetuning the display auto brightness intensity levels (really killer feature to battery life!)

I enjoy Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 because I find it to be consistently fast and responsive, everything works for me all the time, and I still have enough ram to run a couple of apps in the background, unlike every sense 3.0 rom/hybrid I've tried.
Highly highly recommended.

Cyanogen MOD 7 RC 1 or if your so inclined, nightly build #156.
- So far after testing a few ROM I've been back to CM7. Why? Once installed and running and even with keep all my favourite apps open and running in the background, I still manage to keep about 80mb of ram and CPU usage is usually between 2% and 82% with an average of 4 or 5 programs running. Ok a bit excessive I know but it still works.
I have custom memory script running that's available here on XDA and various other gadget. Battery life is usually fairly consistent with 1day 9hours of use. I use the device quite a bit in a day.
Power saving options: Brightness is set to 20% only, Juice Defender installed.
Running background application is limited to my email mostly unless I'm doing some work. Most of the time email, exchange, Facebook and twitter are sync.
I'm using Launcher Pro with the license for my main interface. Here are some screen captures for your pleasure.

Personally, my favorite ROM is MIUI.us
The stock Music app in it, is my favorite music app by far, I especially love how it not only gets the lyrics, but also scrolls them karaoke style with the song. It also has a nice theming system, and a great built in theme. Everything overall looks nicer than stock Android.
Another great thing about it is the status bar, you can enable/disable USB Mass Storage using an on/off slider in the notifications, and I love the way the switches work in the status bar.
Then there's the stock Launcher, which is much nicer than the stock Android launcher in my opinion, though I still replace it with Go Launcher, again, my personal favorite.
If you're looking for a responsive, nice looking, and user friendly ROM, MIUI.us would be my suggestion. It also has a nice backup feature with their servers. You just need to make an MIUI account. Not sure if it's still necessary, but back when I did it, I had to go to the chinese MIUI website and use Google Translate to make my account <_<

The best rom is hardest to define because it's really up to personally preference. MIUI? Sure if you're into that whole thing,but frankly I have trust issues with Chinese tech companies for reasons that have been in the news here and there.
Cyanogenmod is a great AOSP rom even though it's not 100% AOSP it's quick, intuitive, and has lots of options that would allow you to customize it as you want.
There are other roms such as OTA roms that have been made that are also very quick, but not quite as intuitive and they are not as easily customized as some other roms.
Now we get into Sense. There are ports of great roms from other devices that may have a minor bug here and there. Unity is a great rom but I know it needs work on it simply because of little bugs here and there, lack of ram of the Vision, and the battery drain of 1.31 is not so appealing. These roms do not perform as well as Sense roms made for the Desire Z, how ever you do not have some sense 3.0 features that make Sense so much more enjoyable to use.
I currently run Virtuous Sense v2.0.0 and it's a very quick rom, but it lacks the eye candy that we all would love with Unity. However what I love about the sense community is that there are many themes and many ways to enhance sense with add-ons here and there which I have done.
I want to clearly state that this is just my opinion and you should try out the roms for your self to get your own opinion and know your personal preference what appeals to one person is not always the same as the next.

Super cm7 is still my favorite. I keep trying other roms but I always come back to this one because it is super fast and clean. Mexdroid is pretty good to but it is too themed for me. I think they are working on a more stock version which could be pretty sweet.

Actually, I'm now running the "Virtuous Sense v2.0.0 :: Enhanced & Optimized Stock ROM (2.42.405.2)". I miss the Sense 3.0 features, but I can try to flash some available mods. Especially the brightness setting in the quick setting.
But it's a small tax for a stable ROM without restarts.

Those of you who went from CM to Sense 3

How do you like it? Anything you miss about CM that sense 3.0 does not offer?

AOSP has significantly better battery life. At least in my experience. YMMY.

yeah, any AOSP blows the battery life of any sense 2.0 and higher away. I played around with newtoroot's 3.5 version yesterday and liked it. The widgets are cool and I found it entertaining. Switched back to AOSP for battery though. I don't use widgets, my phone is pure utility only, nothing fancy no no widgets.

First Sense ROM I actually like
Have been on Team Blaze's Sense 3.5 based FEARMEde (the Hybrid version) on my EVO 4G for almost a week. It runs quickly and smoothly and has had most of the HTC crap stripped out of it. Technically it is in Beta, but I've had no troubles with it so far. And the battery has been pretty good using stock kernel...similar to what I was getting on AOSP ROMs using Savaged Zen kernels. I'm about to flash ChopSuey kernel to see if it improves battery life.

Sense 3.5
OK,I went with nocturnalbliss sense 3.5 rom to my evo4G and absolutly love it, I was running cm7 nightlys,I really don't give a crap for 4G anyway(I live out in the boonies)Even thou I live a half mile from the nearest cell tower,too manys trees around to get a excellent signal...But the bliss rom is really decent,but for some reason when i download a app from the market,(does everything)when it says installing such app,screen comes up"Package file is invalid"....I tried clearing data/cache from market,shutting down a few times,etc,I do have my gmail,Any tricks,info,files i need to get the install to work? any help would be appericiated...Thanks.. I put my old gapps on this rom,installs now but crashes all the time,least I'm getting somewhere..Thanks...Nobody to help/opinions on this,

I did CM for a couple of days. I ws too used to sense. I like the sense time app, the clock widget, the calender. I used beautiful widgets when I switched to LP on my stock phone. Once I rooted and did sense 3.0 after cm, I stayed.

I made the opposite move. I was using Synergy for awhile and tried a few different sense 3.0 roms. So far, CM7 has far superior speed mostly from not being ram starved like the sense roms were.
go launcher + beautiful widgets is pretty close to what sense offered and is much more customizible as well.
I miss 2 things:
sense camera (miui closest thing to it)
4 application lock screen (haven't been able to add more than 1 app to lockscreen)

If you miss the camera, you can change the settings to 6mp wide and it is very similar

I've tried several sense roms but i don't like them personally. I'm currently on Android Revolution HD and i want to try something new. Is there a good CM7 or AOSP rom which is good in interface, small in size and with great battery life?

This is a subjective matter, but try these two:

I also recommend BlackICE or if you want to try Maffia, with Maffia my battery once survived 58 hours , also with BlackIce your battery can survive for 2 days, but the ICS Theme in Maffia is not 100% working so you may not like that and BlackICE had a simple stylish dark theme, and has more features and some more tweaks.

Loving the higher res look and feel. The performance is excellent and its very stable and smooth. Recently tried a sense ROM and within 12 hours came back!
I used to use MIUI a lot (especially when I had my desire). I've had my HD less than a month and loving it.
For further interface tweaks install a different launcher. I use GO Launcher EX

Try CM7.1(nightly) with ICS theme
Fast, smooth, and looks great !
Add Go Launcher EX with ICS theme to make it complete.
I havent tried Black Ice yet.

All of these are good, in my experience:
Maffia 0.1.7 (still in a slightly early/embryonic state, though)
BlackIce 1.23
Absolution 2.0
CM7.1
Helios 0913
There are still a couple I haven't tried, but which look like winners, such as:

You could try CM7.1. its great.
Another option is MIUI Freshly squeezed. Its very light and can be a daily use rom.

You could try Hydrogen... 63.5 MB total size if i remember correctly....
Others already mentioned... Cyanogen, BlackIce...
MIUI's been very very stable for me.. .never gave me any problems whatsoever... but hey.. to each one his own..

The Oxygen port which has appeared very recently is the smallest and fastest ROM I've ever used. Testing overall battery life now, but the drain is awesome with any recent LordModUE kernel (sleeps at 3mA within a couple of minutes).
The speed is ridiculous.

+ 1 for Freshly Squeezed MIUI
I have also tried Cyanogen and the new ICS port from BeatMod. Cyanogen doesn't interest me too much, but the ICS port is cool although lacking in functionality right now.
Been using Freshly Squeezed for a couple of weeks and it is dramatically different then the other stock ROM's (looks iPhone-ish), but some of the extras really make it a good option.
My favourite features of Miui:
- SMS pop-up notification, allows you to respond to an sms within another app
- Long-Press close apps - long press back in an app to end the task
- Weekly ROM updates

i get great battery and performance on MIUI ROM's downloaded from miui.us nowhere else

Going back to Gingerbread - my experiences

So a few days ago I realized I just can't use JB as a daily driver. I *love* 4.x and am a big fan of almost every change introduced, so I've been using ICS and later JB builds as soon as builds were available (thanks, devs!). But on the DZ it just ain't cutting it. I haven't had a single day without freezes, spontaneous reboots, unbearable slowdowns, graphic glitches etc.
Well I'm back to ILWT CM7, which I haven't used for about 11 months. I've frozen almost every stock app, and have found a usable Holo-style replacement for almost all of them, except for the Browser and the hideous pre-ICS Calendar (any suggestions?). Also every 3rd party SMS app is so bloated.
So far, what I miss:
- I really miss pulling down the status bar in the lockscreen! But that requires a 3rd-party lockscreen replacement which is a huge PITA. Also no 4.x unified lockscreen music controls.
- 4.x Rich Notifications. I added music controls in the CM7 notification power widget, but it's a pretty crappy solution (reminds me of iOS)
- JB makes scrolling in apps (among other things) smoother, and some things were considerably more "fluid". JB wasn't *that* smooth anyhow, at least on the DZ.
- 2.x interface is hideous, "fixed" with ICS Mixer theme, Holo-styled apps and a font change.
- Overall UI polish degradations and papercuts, like the power menu, the loss of holo action bar and the ugly old icons of app menu options.
- Some newer apps don't support 2.x which sucks.
- Tons of 4.x improvements I didn't mention. ICS and JB are such vast improvements from GB. JB is so much more consistent, and it sucks that htc are assholes and dropped support for DZ and DHD.
What's better:
- Much more stable.
- Faster!
- Can actually multitask now because there's no need for the OS to constantly kill things in the background. lol at Titanium constantly getting killed in the background on JB.
- Better battery life.
- The proper drivers mean some apps work here but not in 4.x. For example, any app that uses the phone as a webcam.
So anyone else back on Gingerbread and can share their experience?

Most of the time im running a gingerbread rom. Never get the freezes you are talking about on any 4.x rom in 6 months or so, are you sure you had all partitions in ext4?
I do agree battery life is much lower than in 2.3.x and thats one of the main reasons i tend to stick with them. The ui is much better with 4.x but id rather have an ugly ui then a phone that isnt 100%
Overall ics and somewhat jb has been proven to be running almost perfect on the vision and right now im on an ics (a sense rom which i usualy hate!) But there are just too many things dragging me back to gingerbread, battery life being the biggest issue as im a heavy user

I have to say the battery life on the newest Andromadous JB test builds are amazing and much better than GB. I even have the CPU governor set the minimum to 800 MHz with maximum to 1500 Mhz and I can still run a full day without recharging (I do quite a bit of web browsing on my G2 and occasional calls).

Possibly between some gb roms it is better but the best battery life that i consistantly get is with elitemodcm7 and ilwtcm7, with heavy use i can get through a full day 18+ hours every time. If i use a little less on some of the ics roms i can get close but not always (elitemod cm9 kernel with mimicry seems to be the best battery life) i poor life on old jb test builds that slowy got a little better, have tried a build since around 90 something but im sure ill test again soon.

Yeah, definitely try the new test builds, I was really amazed at the big difference in battery life in the newest builds.

euhh, its not beacause of your DZ.
- On the galaxy sII, MOST of the ICS and JB roms are not smooth at all. Lot of crashes , etc. Even on the official update.
- on galaxy note, same thing. Looks like stock JB run better anyway, good thing.
- on nexus S it is the worst since the last JB update.
- on desire ( one of the most supported device) , lot of crashes with ICS.
- And I dont tell you about the milestone (very old device)...

All the phones mentionned above, are running GB right now.
They not all mine, most of them are my friends phone, they ask me to root it to try new roms. All of them complaining about ICS/JB stability.
I didnt try the big ass phones like the sIII, but they are so powerfull that you can't feel any slowdown.

Thanks for that info, overdose. I've been wondering how other phones with more dev support were handling JB. Here's hoping with the new Nexus phones soon we can finally have a device that handles stock Android decently.
I've ran into an old CM7 bug with the Lense lockscreen... basically what happens is that, for some reason, the software thinks pulling down the Lense should launch a custom app instead of unlocking the device. Since I didn't have any custom app defined, pulling down does nothing and there is no way to unlock the device
So I have to fix it with adb which is pretty pathetic. Ironically I'm typing this from a restored Jelly Bean ROM.
edit: I got it fixed, and in the process dropped my phone and severely cracked the screen. Hahaha. Oh well DZ we had a good run.

DZ screen are cheap.
I have 2 in stock just in case, with the HTC logo. I paid them 30 $ ea. a year ago .

I don't have a desire z but a nexus one and did have 2 regular desires before (my ex gf had ICS spazedog ROM - working pretty good) now I'm running spazedog jellybean rom on the n1 and its smooth than cm was maybe a bit slower to open apps but no real lag or freeze or reboots after a couple weeks. Only problem is no video camera and had to install an app from play store to take pictures without a soft reboot and still the pictures don't look great. That and can't play YouTube videos in app or browser or its reboots. Other than that its pretty reliable and the desire z should be a slightly better phone. Maybe something else causing the issues?

Everyone use their phone differently, I agree with much of what you are saying but I highly disagree with bettery battery life on 4.x compared with 2.x, no matter how much you tweak or change things the best roms (for battery life) on 4.x have never been able to compete with the best 2.x in that regard. I will say that the improvment have been incredible over the past 6 months or so, but I'm a heavy user, and maybe its the way I use my phone that runs the battery fast but I easily can get a day with 2.x (about 6hours screen on) and I'm always struggling even with the best 4.x to do the same, (max maybe 4~4.5hrs screen up)
But again, we all use our phones differently. Right now I'm on an ics Rom, about 6hours up, 56% left of battery with just under 2hrs screen on. Granted this is not the best ics rom for battery life but let's I was using say mimicry or elitemod ics, I would be @ maybe 65 @ most, with certain 2.x is be well over 70 right now

I'm sure I could have my phone on, with screen off, put it in airplane mode and let it sit for 3days to see it still has 30% (or whatever) juice left, no matter the os. But that dosent matter to me as I want my phone to last when I'm using it
Listen, you may get the best life out of ics or jb on your phone, I get better life on 2.x, I'm not saying these newer roms are inferior, I'm saying that one of the most important features is battery life to me and I have always gotten the best life in older operating systems. Having said that, I'm a flashaholic and I try nearly every Rom available for any phone I have. Mimicry is amazing, fast, stable, and pretty good battery life. If I absolutely need to be sure I have power left by the end of the day I'm not running mimicry (im a heavy user and the ways I use my phone it just isn't going to happen) and don't say I have bad apps with memory leaks and wake locks because I've been around long enough to know to test for all this. I don't use Many different apps and the ones I do use I know are good (and the same ones I use not matter the os)
Let's just agree you have different experiences with your phone as I have with mine, I'm not steering anyone away from using
Ics or jb, and ill continue to use thenm too. But I (not you) get bettery life with 2.x

Obviously battery life varies with the way you use your phone. If you're ever interested in trying JB again, definitely give the test builds a shot. Remember to do a full wipe though, I assume you do anyways. I was shocked at how much the JB test builds improved battery life and responsiveness compared to the Virtuous G-lite I was using for a while.

well thats somewhat a relative point. you see when i consistently get (im picking #s here) 24hrs of battery use with 6 of those hours being screen on time with 2.x. then i compare the use of 4.x where i consistently get 18hrs of use with 4hrs screen on.
this compares not only the screen on time but also the overall time the phone lasts between charges. i feel most people comparing batteries understand that this is over a course of time and that the first day they flash a new rom will not give the best overall picture of what the battery consumption level is.
true the most power consumption is happening when the screen is on, but noting the amount of screen on time along with how long the battery lasts (consistently) will give anyone a good idea of whats going on. see if there is a day that i use my phone less, the battery tends to last longer (you get that) noting how long screen on time is gives a general picture of how frequently the phone is used that day.
also comparing what operating systems do in deep sleep is useful, again that hopefully is not the best way in determining battery life as you are lacking realworld use of the phone. yes its important to note, but like i said if i stuck the phone in a sock drawer for three days with the sim pulled and wifi off, i couldnt care much the results because my use of my phone will never be compared to it sitting in a sock drawer for any period of time.
so one of us is not getting the other, or there is some **** comparing going on over battery life testing. either way i say its best not to waste time and electronic ink over this. lets just say your right for the sake of i dont really care.

I've been in somewhat the same boat having gone back to CM7 many times for speed and stability. Mimicry was very nice but Skype would crash in it and it was an app that I always used. Now that Skype has made some major updates, I'm considering either installing Mimicry again or Jelly Baby. The latter is going to be updated soon from what I've been reading so I'll likely wait and try that.

Honestly scrolling in cm7 looks laggish to me compared to flinnys don't know why . how is jelly baby compared to flinnys in terms of performance?

Just my 2 pence but, frankly, any and every CM9.x/CM10.x rom I've ever tried on my DZ has been laggy/buggy after some time. On the other hand, the AOSP counterparts have ALWAYS been faster in general and didn't slow down, unlike CM. Hell, it was the same even with CM7 (with some exceptions, primarily ILWT CM7). This is obviously logical since CM has more things going on unlike AOSP which is pretty light on the feature side (nothing you can't take care of with a couple of apps, mind you). From my experience, CM9+ roms just don't work on the DZ. Whatever I do, they always end up slowing down to the point where I can't even use the phone. As for battery life...I don't have much to say in particular, it has always been below average whatever rom I was running (again with a few exceptions, like G-Lite).
Just as I said though, just my opinion so don't take my word for it.
