just one minutes your spica now is under root

Hi Friends, I found out an eassy way of rooting but before you start format your card with FAT32 and follow instructions as mentioned here -
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/root-samsung-galaxy-spica-i5700-with-leshaks-kernel/
Guys I did it already, With Odin is so wasy, I was just asking if there is a way more easier.
Thank you
Z4root is now available for spica.

Z4root is not a full root for spica or any other phone.
to get it follow these steps
Enjoy
Not fully one click but almost there
Install z4root 1.3.0.apk.
Install any terminal emulator apk.
Do the permanent root to get the superuser apk and su binaries installed.
(the permanent root does not work because the rfs filesystem used by the spica does not support the suid bit)
Then do a temporary root. (z4root creates a tmpfs filesystem which supports the suid bit).
Launch the terminal emulator.
Get root by typing su at the $ prompt. The superuser apk should ask for permissions. Allow the terminal.
The prompt should change to #.
Type dmesg > /sdcard/dmesg.txt
This should dump the boot logging output to dmesg.txt. Connect your phone to the PC or eject the sdcard and open dmesg.txt in any editor.
Search the log file for cannot find.
In my case it was
init: cannot find '/system/etc/install-recovery.sh', disabling 'flash_recovery'
The important part is the "/system/etc" and the ".sh".
For some reason spica allows editing in the /system/etc directory which remains after reboots. Any edits to / do not remain after reboots.
If you dont have a cannot find error by init generated by a script in /system/etc then youre out of luck. The only way out is to run z4root and get a temporary root everytime (although it kind of makes the phone a bit unstable after the temporary root).
Then type
mount -o remount,rw,codepage=utf8,vfat,xattr,check=no /dev/stl5 /system
(wonder why this works, cos my device shows /system mounted as /dev/stl6. anyways it works)
Change directory to the system folder by typing
cd /system/sbin
Create a symbolic link to /xbin/su in /system/sbin. Do this because typically in the path variable /system/sbin comes before /system/bin (where z4root dumps the su binary). The suid bit is not set after reboot in the /system/bin/su so it dosent work.
ln -s /xbin/su /system/sbin/su
Have script prepared on your PC with the following lines:
#!/system/bin/sh
mkdir /xbin
mount -t tmpfs -o size=100k tmpfs /xbin
cat /system/bin/su > /xbin/su
chmod 6755 /xbin/su
Save it to your sdcard as the missing sh. In my case it was install-recovery.sh.
Copy it from the sdcard to the /system/etc folder by typing
cat /sdcard/install-recovery.sh > /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Thats it.
Reboot when your done.
On reboot init should read the init.rc file in /. Then it should execute install-recovery.sh. (Just make sure the install-recovery.sh or whatever script is marked as oneshot in the init.rc file)
install-recovery.sh should create a small tmpfs partiition, copy the su binary there and set the suid permissions creating a permanent root.
I try to root my spica with super one click, android sdk and no work but i find a way to update cupkake 1,5 to eclair 2.1 with odin and finaly i made it . Than i use lkmod 2.5 to root but i cant find the super user or any root explorer in the phone and i dont know if my phone is root-ed or not ... any idea...?
one click root is impossible on spica
the stock OS on spica i think it was android 2.1, the one click root kits (at least the few i tried) didnt work on androdi 2.1
As soon as i flashed a 2.2/2.3 rom i had no problem rooting using z4root for example.

any ideas what i did wrong? :/
oh and btw somehow i have S-off...
i followed each step, but i just notices this... for some reason it wont let me push superuser.apk or su, all of the other files can be pushed... any ideas?
no one?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tU9zn_BEth4 i did that way and it works for me.
but i have s-off i supposed to be rooted already but i do not have super user powers... what do i do
Did you copy the Superuser.apk file to the root of your SDcard?
yes i did, and su too and now when i put su on my phone it says unknown user root :/
i can get temporal rooting tough.
Use visionary r13 ... had same issue... worked for me
Get it from pauls visionary thread on Modaco.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
i had the same situation with u few days ago. just follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834228 and u only need do the temp root part.
Delete visionary and superuser first, install terminal emulator from market.
on you pc:
$ adb push su /sdcard/su
$ adb push Superuser.apk /sdcard/Superuser.apk
$ adb push rage /data/local/tmp/rage
$ adb push busybox /data/local/tmp/busybox
$ adb push root /data/local/tmp/root
$ adb shell chmod 0755 /data/local/tmp/*
Then on you G2, open a terminal emulator
Launch Terminal Emulator---/data/local/tmp/rage----Wait for the message: "Forked #### childs."------Menu > Reset Term - Terminal Emulator will exit.-----Launch Terminal Emulator, it Force Closes. Launch a second time, and you'll have a root shell----- run the /data/local/tmp/root script here.---sync.
In the last step, u can find the origin thread dose not let u do this. but, if you've got s-off, trust me, just do the last step "/data/local/tmp/root", and when u see a feedback "****files exist",then "sync",
I got s-off, flashed clockwork recovery and baconbits
setcpu is also working
but when I try typed su then reboot in terminal
it says not permitted
and when I want to get rid of the bloatware ie Finance
root explorer refuses to switch to r/w in data folder
any suggestions
u can also do what i suggested in the 8th floor.

I made this thread to help solve such problem.
After I got S-off, I didn't have root either. I just jumped on visionary (made sure run on boot wasn't checked), clicked root now. And boom, that was it. Then I deleted visionary and I've had root ever since...
Hey all,
I would like to know, what I might have done wrong in the rooting process. I used
This Tutorial hxxp://g2hacks.com/g2-hacks/how-to-root-g2-phone/
I made it to step #18 and was stopped by this error:
Code:
/data/local/tmp/root: data/local/tmp/busybox: not found
/data/local/tmp/root: data/local/tmp/busybox: not found
Unable to chmod /system/xbin/busybox: No such file or directory
/data/local/tmp/root: /system/xbin/busybox: not found
cp: not found
cp: not found
Ideas?
Thanks,
Danny
Here is a screenshot of what I pushed to the phone:
hxxp://i.imgur.com/No1id.jpg
You have a typo in your push command for busybox (you renamed it to root instead, which then got overwritten when you pushed root). Just push busybox again.
How do I back out and enter that push command again?
What would I type?
I'm a total novice.
On your comp, just type the command again:
Code:
adb push G2TempRoot/busybox /data/local/tmp/busybox
Then on your phone, in Terminal, just run the root command again:
Code:
/data/local/tmp/root
It should complete this time.
I made a mess. Check it:
hxxp://i.imgur.com/y3NRW.jpg
You are still in the adb shell (basically creates a terminal on your phone that you can interact with on your computer).
Type "exit" to leave the shell. This will return you to the regular command prompt (instead of the $). Then try the push command again.
So now the phone terminal gives me this:
Code:
/data/local/tmp/busybox: permission denied
Oh sorry, forgot you needed to set permissions on the file. Run this command again from your computer:
Code:
adb shell chmod 0755 /data/local/tmp/*
Then it should all work fine.
The errors are getting shorter
Now I get this:
Code:
mkdir failed for /system/xbin, File exists
This error doesn't matter (it's really more of a warning in this case) and is actually expected.
You should actually be rooted if you didn't see anything else.
AND I'M ROOTED... THANK YOU!

Congrats! And there are a few threads about this that you can read through (just search for them). If you like HTC Sense (the interface HTC adds to a lot of their phones---basically lots nice visuals and extra polish to things), you can try Virtuous. If you like the stock look that the G2 comes with, there is a stock DEODEX rom out there. By de-odexing the rom, you can do things like customize the framework (e.g., customize the status bar icons/colors or add a battery percentage to it). Lots of people here (myself included), use CyanogenMod. It's close to stock but with lots of tweaks/extras (it's based on the Android Open Source Project or AOSP). It's also nice because it has frequent updates and constant development (they recently started pushing test builds that are based on Gingerbread---the new Android update only available on Nexus S).
Now that you are rooted though, it's easy enough to install Rom Manager and test them all out. Be sure to create a backup first as well.
ROM Manager installed. I'm backed up.
Thanks again for your help.
i cant flash the engineering hboot keep getting error md5sum : not found Verification of hboot-eng.img failed i re-download the files, re-extracted them to my SD card, and ran the flash_hboot script 3x still nothing plz help but im rooted and backed up
Did not want to create a new thread so I'm posting it here.
First off, I haven't tried rooting any of my phones previously so I'm obviously making a mistake somewhere.Hope someone here can help me out.
I installed visionary+ r14 but it just blacked out the screen with a heading.I've read elsewhere that it has all to do with the new firmware updates. My update for the DZ seems to be country a specific one and came out a couple of weeks back.
Anyway,
I tried this visionary method a few times but the phone just hung and I had to go to the homescreen and uninstall Visionary and reboot to get the phone to run smoothly again.
Then I read another way of rooting the thing and it took me here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2
After a couple of tries I was able to push the files to the DZ but got stuck at this command:
adb shell chmod 0755 /data/local/tmp/*
The error it gives me is:
Unable to chmod /data/local/tmp/sqlite3: operation not permitted
Strange thing is, yesterday at the same point it gave me the same error but it was 'busybox' instead of sqlite3 and right before that it was something else.Which should mean that those earlier commands were run successfully by the terminal.
P.S. Debugging mode is on.Visionary is uninstalled. followed all the steps mentioned in the guide.
Okay.So I format the phone memory and I'm now able to move a few steps ahead.
But as soon as it seems that everything is going well, the terminal emulator refuses to open at this step:
"Launch Terminal Emulator, it Force Closes. Launch a second time, and you'll have a root shell "
waited a while and there is only a blank screen showing up.

It looks like you are trying to root a DZ with a firmeware version >= 1.72.
If yes to have to downgrade it to 1.34 first.
See either the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261 or the more comprehensive at http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting
But if your CID is other then the ones stated in the the first thread you need a goldcard to downgrade first, which is also described in the first thread.
have fun - Guhl
Thanks a lot for your reply and as is the case, my phones CID is HTC_38 which does not seem to be downgradable without a gold card.
I read the procedure and although its well explained, it will take a bit of time.
Will try it sometime soon hopefully, although I wish someone would just make a simple rooting app for the newer versions!
It took us month without sleep to create the existing rooting tools. So I do not see any simple rooting tools on the horizon
So I just rooted a Glacier out of the box using VISIONary and gfree. Did everything exactly as was supposed to: temprooted, ran gfree, permrooted with "Set system r/w after root" checked, flashed engineering bootloader. Still running stock ROM.
Whenever I try to use adb remount, it fails saying "Operation not permitted." I want to use adb push to write to the file system, but I can't do that without the remount command.
I've tried using terminal emulator to copy a file from the sd card and failed:
Code:
$ su
# cd /sdcard
# cp -f hosts /system/etc
cp: cannot create '/system/etc/hosts':File exists
I've also tried outright deleting a file and failed:
Code:
# cd /system/etc
# rm hosts
rm failed for hosts, Read-only file system
I'm stupefied.

Is there a free application that does this?
Unfortunately, I won't have access to it for the next few days (someone else's phone, and he's going out of town).
the stock rom doesn't except the remount command.
I believe that astro has the remount ability in it. You might want to consider flashing a custom rom though, even if its one of the stock based ones.

I see, thanks very much for the explanation. Is that also why the terminal commands didn't work? Does the stock ROM not allow r/w permissions even if you have superuser permission?
Since it's not my phone, I didn't flash a ROM, only ClockworkMod recovery 3.0.0.6. Next time I see him I'll ask whether he wants to do any firmware changes or not.

You can make the stock rom rw, but its a pain and I dont really remember the command. Its something like
Code:
mount -o,rw remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p25 /system
That may br right, but if not it wont do any damage. just give you a syntax error.

Ah yes, I remember using that once before. I've since forgotten it since I never use it with my own phone. Alrighty, I'll mark this as answered.
Does GingerBreak work with this version of Gingerbread 4.5.601.A955.Verizon.en.us? My phone is currently rooted with Z4Root 1.3. Is there an easy way of doing this?
Sam
Use the d3 root method. Works fine.
CM7GB-601
The D3 one click didnt work for me. It tries to reboot and the phone sits at the "Battery OK OK to Program Transfer Mode: USB" mode.
I was rooted before the update. I never used ROMS or anything just rooted for wireless tether and T backup. Not sure how to proceed but Im pretty happy with the update, fixed a bunch of issues for me.
Anyone else not able to root after the ginger ota?

I have the phone in PC Mode (instead of Mass Storage.) I don't know if that makes a difference.
The D3 Method worked great for me and my wife's phone.
Hi everyone,
I have the same question as CSSZiegler, but want to expand on it a little bit...
I have a Droid 2 that was rooted with Z4Root 1.3 several months ago. I also have SetCPU, SuperUser and Titanium Backup. No custom ROMs installed. Big Red just pushed down GB, and of course, I've lost root access. I'd like to regain root again without losing any contacts, Handcent messages, etc. I've read on several forums that the D2 can be rooted just like the D3 with a simple "one-click" operation referenced by quarky42 earlier.
Any opinions or experience with this? I greatly appreciate any and all assistance!
update
My phone downloads the update, I click install now... it reboots and starts the install, then about 35% of the way through, it turns to a triangle with ! Inside. Phone reboots and displays message software update failed. Anyone know where to find a logfile or have any suggestions?
Droid2 android 2.2.. rooted. No custom rom.
Did you fully SBF to stock using RSDLite?
Also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1246673 has a flashable version.
I will as soon as I get a computer again, thanks for the link. Unfortunately my mobo died yesterday. So I was hoping for an alternative solution. It would also be nice to keep all my texts.. I'll google that one.
So any ideas on the logs or an alternative solution?

I had the same problem, and I think it is is because we already had Superuser installed. To remove it, from the directory where you downloaded the one click root, open the command window, then type adb shell
when you hit enter, the next line should end with a #
if it's $, run the one click again, then start this over
once you have the # prompt, type
mount -oremount,rw /dev/block/system /system
rm /system/bin/su
rm /system/xbin/su
hitting enter after each line.
After doing this, run the one click, and it should be fine. Worked great for me.

I'm having the same problem as the original poster... Installed gingerbread with z4root... phone was already rooted.. Now I have superuser and can't get rid of it.. .Tried unrooting through z4 and it doesn't work... Tried gingerbreak and the one click root through windows... Neither of those worked...
I either want to root through gingerbread or just get rid of the superuser.
when I type adb shell in command prompt (in windows 7) it says adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Any ideas? Thanks.

That error is usually because your trying to run the program from the wrong directory. Make sure your command line is started from the folder that adb.exe is located in. You can do this by Shift and right mouse button and “open command window here”.

I searched the phone's sd card.. I couldn't find it... do you know where adb.exe is located?
The fact that he said to hold shift and the right mouse button should tell you he's talking about a folder on your computer and not on your SD card.

Click to collapse
Finally got it to work... now.. I used motorola one click root.exe where you use the exe on the computer. Just out of curiosity, is there a one click method to unroot? Thanks!
