[Q] Maintaining data between wipes

Hey all,
So I've rooted my Wildfire, and I'm running an older version of WildPuzzle. Whilst I want to try some different roms and versions, I don't really have the time to be re-importing and linking contacts and stuff like that between wipes and flashes.
I actually restored my data partition after installing wildpuzzle, and for the most part my phone is actually really stable. However, especially when moving to 2.2 versions of the ROMs, I expect more incompatibilities will follow, and a wipe would be highly recommended.
So really, I'm just curious as to what you personally use to restore data after a wipe and flash. Nothing I have tried so far has been either as convenient as is ideal (e.g. titanium takes ages to restore as you must confirm each individual app install), or restored my data exactly the way they were before the wipe (no contact backup app I've found has restored my contact book identically to before i.e. maintaining facebook links correctly etc).
Whilst the issues I've mentioned may seem trivial, when you wish to flash a new rom and use it for a day to assess it properly, it's a nightmare to have to restore everything from scratch following each wipe.
Thanks

Clean android install

so i have a couple of questions as its been a while. and i want to update all my stuff to current-ness, and get a fresh data image.
1. should i load HSPL 3 as i am running on ver.1?
2. how can i keep my apps from android if i use a fresh data image. mainly my angry birds save data? i can re-download anything else i need.
3. should i change the radio and winmo rom if its fine as is.... its been a while?
Most Android builds and their developers recommend a combination that they say works for them. So you could test out the lastest Winmo for your region along with the latest radio (2.15.50.14 for example)
You could use Titanium Backup to backup your installation with settings.

How do you do a Factory Reset but still keep your Data Backed Up?

I've been told if I told a factory reset it should solve the battery drain but I also don't want to lose all the data that's backed up on my phone.
With that said is there a way to perform this task but backup your previous data and reinstall
All my settings Roms, Kernels, ect are in my signature as well for review of what I am using.
Thanks to all who answer
OK easy... Enter MAGLDR choose option 8 from there choose restore/backup then choose backup. There you go everything is backed up. You can then do anything you want. I usually do this before downloading a new ROM.
After you reinstall the ROM if that is what you are going to do let it load up go through setup reboot once let it fully load then turn it off again and this time boot into MAGLDR choose option 8 anc choose advanced restore choose which restore you want and choose to just restore data reboot and it will be like you never changed anything for the original state. The only data it wont restore is stuff you have pushed like say an upgraded zip etc.
Damn I did just as you said and it didn't restore half of it and one was the android market so I couldn't reinstall any that was missing or use Titanium Backup to reinstall the missing ones.
I'm going back one so hopefully this will fix it
It should of I have done this probably 10-15 times works every time. Only time it don't work is if you change ROM's that don't have the same base. Good thing is you can always restore your build completely which will bring it back to how it was before you backed it up to start.
That must have been the change it went from one base to the next. I went back one backup and worked great, thanks.

Cant boot anymore...

Hey fellows,
I got a little problem with my phone. I tried to run some benchmarks on it and wanted to reboot, but then it stuck on 'Starting apps'.
To my phone:
I run the latest P.A.C. Rom with Faux Custom Kernel. So I tried to clear Cache and Dalvik to get it to run, doesnt fix anything. I tried to flash the Rom again, once without Faux Kernel, the other time with, doesnt fix the problem. Then I restored the system partition from a very old backup of the same Rom version, the same...
Finally I restored the old data partition of my backup and it works, BUT the status of this backup is too old.
So I did a logcat and it says: WifiStateMachine ... NOT_HANDLED and this goes on and on. I can see that all functions have been loaded in the background, but it doesnt go further than this screen.
Hope u guys are enjoying your holidays and can help me.
Thanks very much
Logcat??
Dont worry!
Just dirty flash the same version of rom and kernel again. You wont lose your data or apps.

I restored my old backup and Im trying to restore all my apps + data from the broken data & system backup with Nandroid Manager. He finds the apps to restore out of the nandroid backup and tries to load the information of the apps, but after a while he says that no apps can be found...
Android gets stuck at starting apps when you undervolt too much and it corrupts your data only fix was a data wipe and reflash rom for me

apps crashing in my backup (kitkat) after upgrade to Cyanogenmod 12 (lollipop)

Hi guys, so basically I made a backup of my STOCK rom and then I installed CYANOGEN mod 12 on the phone... Realizing I totally forgot about my contacts I then backed it up and "restored" my old backup of the stock rom which is kitkat. to find that EVERYTHING "stops working" so I cant get to my contacts.
Now heres where I believe I went wrong. I used philz touchwiz and upon my process to flash the phone I did the system/factory reset option or something like that and it asks if you'd like to wipe the phone to install a new rom. I selected yes so I thought that I was good to go and did not go further into the other stuff... I flashed cyanogen mod on the phone and then it said it was "upgrading my apps" ok well thats fine, and it ran great and no issues.... So going back to my STOCK backup after that, all the apps just crash, which I assume is due to still having the old apps which are "upgraded" to lollipop but the apps of course crash on "kitkat"
So, I've read that in a backup it saves all your apps and stuff.. It should return your phone back to exactly where it was when you made the backup. so why is it i'm having the app issues? I guess I need to delete them right?
So what is the options i need to do to get rid of the apps and do a proper phone wiping prior to a backup so that when I load my kitkat backup that It runs fine as it should? Wipe cache? dalvik? /data?, etc etc.... will it erase the main phones memory as a hole or no?
let me know how to correct this, I greatly appreciate it. I've tried googling to no prevail so far.
If I'm understanding correctly, you're trying to restore your KitKat apps onto cm12.
If that is the case, it will keep force closing apps. When upgrading and moving from touchwiz based Roms to AOSP based Roms you can't just restore from backups, the environment is different.
So to carry your contacts, I suggest recreating the same KitKat environment by clean installing whatever ROM you had, let google play store install the apps, then restore your app data only using philz advanced restore option (make sure all other options besides app data or data are unchecked)
Once all are restored, make a backup of your contacts and SMS using call log back up and SMS backup apps from playstore.
Back up any app progress using adb like
#adb -backup -f appname.ab -obb -noapk com.android....
And then do a clean cm12 install, let play store install all apps and start restoring call log, SMS, and your app data.
This takes a while, but it is worth it!
