Good day!
I have been using roms from xda for 2 phones now, and love them. My only issue has been reception. Is there a simple way to extract my original radio and put it into a new rom? That would solve all of my issues.
Thanks in advance.

What radio are you referring to? If you search for the band number on the forums, you might find a flashable zip that you can flash from recovery. Also, refer to the hero wiki: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Hero_CDMA.png, you might find info there.
My Canadian carrier must use a different radio than the ones included with the new Roms. I am hoping to extract that and put it into my aosp rom.
My reception is terrible with the new rom.

Ummm flashing a new rom does not change the radio.

Thanks a lot guys. I guess I noticed my signal strength was lower after I flashed to the new rom. Is there anything in the new rom that could cause my signal strength to the lower than before?

Its all in how the xml's are coded for the signal bars. You would be better off checking signal strength in settings>about phone

just flash royal ginger 2.0, great rom, although i'm having an issue where my signal flips constantly between 3G and 4G, i actually was running with cygenmod 7 for a few days and was having the same issue so i thought iw ould try a different rom, and same issue. I've flashed all three different radios and have same luck. if i revert back to the stock rom, i have a solid 4G all the time. any suggestions?

When using CM or any derivitives of (maybe even AOSP) you will be connected to 3G most of the time until you download or need to use 4G then it will automaticlly switch.
With the stock rom it does not differentiate (visually) between 3G and 4G so even though you think you are on 4G all the time you might not actually be.

thanks must for the info, the only issue I have with it in the end, is a few times, the 3G/4G indicator will turn grey/white and will have no data, or it will just randomly timeout when on a certain page or in the andorid market thoughts on that? drives me nuts

Is this why you have posted at least 15-20 times today in different threads with pretty much off topic useless comments? Trying to get your post count up since your account was created yesterday? I for one would never flash a Rom from some one that isnt or hasnt been a part of this community for some time. I also saw this post from you (only a hour ago) that makes me wonder....you are building Roms yet had to have help rooting a phone that is really very simple to root. This of coarse is just my two cents, and of coarse everyone is able to do what ever they want.

While you are new, I'll try that as soon as other people have given a thumbs up to it. but PLEASE try and make the gps consistent. That alone is why I'm sticking with the stock rom - any rom with good wireless data and fully functional GPS is a winner. ESPECIALLY if it's AOSP.
I saw this on a thread a while back... dial *#*#4636#*#* and then choose the first option (like phone info or something) then scroll down to where it says wcdma preferred and tap it and switch it to wcdma only and reboot and you'll be on 4g way more than before. I was having the same 3g 4g mess before I found info. Wish I could.thank the original post but I don't remember who it was. I also know that trick works on other android phones as well.

guys...this is a known issue between Google's servers, T-Mobiles APNs, and Gingerbread (though I have read many reports of the same or similar from Froyo users on various devices)
there is no "fix" at the moment.

all vanilla android (aosp) ROMs seem to have this reputation. the people who do see this usually don't have this happen all the time but seems to come in spurts and then be ok for a while.
but one thing that does NOT help the situation is jumping around flashing one new ROM / kernel / radio after another over and over in short periods of time. ..feel free to do this if you're really itching to but just don't clog up all the corresponding threads with questions or comments about your battery life, reception, data speeds, etc .... JUST EXPECT inconsistencies if you're currently indulging your flash crack addiction.
it comes with the territory.
and I'm not trying to say don't try other setups out. but if you are really on a 'quest' to find the configuration (ROM/kernel/radio/etc) that works best for YOU - do yourself a favor and give each setup 3 - 4 days AT LEAST .. ideally a week +
not only for the ROM to have a chance to settle in and show you some kind of consistency but to give your worn out phone and battery a rest!
your glacier will be a much happier little block of ice this way, believe me
happy flashing

Also, radio updates aren't likely to vastly improve anything.
Try updating your PRL and Data profile.

No the PRL has to do with what towers you roam on.
Go the the EVO wiki within XDA, there is a table listing links to all stock ROMS, and below that there are links for the stock radios. The top link sends you to a thread where the latest greatest radios can always be found.
ok so, i just noticed this.

Baseband version
s:i400.0.6v.DL17

Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium
I have not had a single person say that this is going to cause a problem with anything. if it is, please speak up. random remarks on how funny it is that i am running this isn't helping.
Because it is common sense
If directions for flashing 2.2 tell you to do something, like flash the new 2.2 radio, then you should probably do it xP
Otherwise, you can't even try to complain about GPS issues, phone call issues, etc...

I agree as for common sense, i know i should have done this. and honestly though i did.
and i have the files downloaded and saved to my dropbox.
but again, my point is, i am not having a single problem.GPS is working great (used on a daily basis), phone calls are perfect, loud and clear, even the one problem i was having turned out to be the headset itself. unless someone can give me a reason that i should/have to go to the 2.2 radio (EI someone tell me something that can only be done on the 2.2 radio and not on the one i am on currently) otherwise, i see no need to do it.
From what I have gathered its a hit or miss weather or not you'll have any problems using an outdated radio having not done it personally I guess I can't talk...
But in my opinion i've seen faster data transfer and less dead-zones than before so I would recommend it but I won't tell you that you need to do it
And anyways why not have the full froyo package?
Didn't mean to offend you good sir just bein a sillypoo XD

Hmm. I always thought the opposite. I thought wifi wasnt tied to the radio, that the radio was just for GSM signal...

So you've had the same WiFi performance between roms? Even Sense based?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using xda premium
Well the radio and rom are two separate things, you must flash them independently. Certain radios work better for some on certain roms, but also it depends on the region as well, it really is the epitome of YMMV! I personally stick to radios from official updates, besides if it ain't broke don't fix it. In your case it was but now it's fine so just be careful. Flashing radios is the number one phone bricker next to one click root solutions.
I'd like to know which radio you ended up using as well. I'm also using G-Lite and experiencing weak wifi signal, at least shown on the wifi indicator.

Are you sure that it's not just the ROM showing that it has lower signal than it actually does? I'm using g-lite 2.0.1 and i have no problems with wifi at all and this ROM is amazing, i think you should flash the latest radio for the htc vision as that's the one that is recommended by the developer of g-lite. Here's a link to the list of radios for your phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809 , the one i'm using (which is also the recommended one) is the one at the top of the downloads list - Vision_Radio_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19.
