1. See noob guide on Flashing NAND Android rom (link in my signature)
2. You can't back it up, but there are lots of places where you can download the rom. check out the WM6.5 development thread to see if you can get a download link.
3. To me NAND is far more smooth in operation than running off of sd card. Running of sd card I guess gives the flexibility of having 2 os's that you can switch between if for some obscure reason you would want to do that (ie dual boot)
4. Just flash the stock wm rom back
5. No, it won't lock the device again. (AFAIK - 99.9% sure )
My current favourite rom is also linked in my signature.

ClydeB1's answers are all true...I'd lyk 2 add something to answer number "2"
U can't completely back up ur WinMo rom...u can re-download and install though...Hweva u can backup n transfer data lyk sms, contacts, call logs etc from WinMo to Android using Sprite Migrate which can be found here.

Could you please quide me ?

[Q] U.S.A HD2 and Android

hay guys sorry id some of you get mad for me posting this here but this is the only place i know my qustion will get answered. OK im new to the windows phone deal. i have a mytouch slide and a g1 rooted so i under that hole part here is my ?.
From what i have read on the forums only build roms work with the hd2. well i would like to put android on it but after looking around most the roms on here and the links on here for putting android on the phone all lead to the LEO forum is the correct or no if not can someone tell me were to get the most resent android rom for the hd2 usa, now there seems to be two ways of installing it one is from sd card and 2 is from boot i would like to do it from boot any help would be grate thanks all and happy modding
Someone correct me if I am wrong...
There are not TWO ways of doing android.
Android is ALWAYS installed on the SD card. The only way to "boot" to it is to have your WM configured to boot the two files from your SD card required to run it, in essence there are a few apps that can do this at WM startup.
You will still need an Android friendly Windows Mobile ROM, so the stock from will not work. You also need a compatible radio.
I would check out the HD2 Android Dev forum for more info though.

The Android port cannot replace the WinMo OS just yet. The only way is to install it to your SD Card and it will run off of that. There are apps that allow you to choose between WinMo and Android on bootup. The LEO Android forum is correct since Android builds do not matter which device it is booted on.
Android is able to run on the Stock ROM, but people have said it runs better with a different ROM/Radio.
The build I recommend is Energy ROM / Radio 2.12.50.02_2 and an Android Build of your choice, but you can always run it on the Stock if you feel like it.

help....hd2

hi guys
pls help me out. i m a new t mobile hd user. have the stock rom. used one week without problem. then phone started to repeatedly get stuck. initially when phone is switched on, the screen wont come on for 15 minutes. but the hard buttons were flashing. this would spontaneously recover. later phone started to get stuck while being used and in standby mode. i thought it could be due to cookie home tab and other software recently installed. so uninstalled all of that, but, no result.
then i accidentally switched to "swype" (i was using the htc keyboard). then it really became mad! needed to soft reset repeatedly. the moment i try to type something ( swype mode is still on. cant switch back to the usual kb, it gets stuck) phone gets stuck, needing soft reset. finallly went for hard reset.
1. is this a known issue with hd2? (somebody told me so)
2. how can i overcome this? would a cooke rom like the energy rom help?
3. whats wrong with swype ????
please, anything to help guys....
Yes if you install a custom ROM especially a Energy ROM you can kiss all that bad behavior good bye, unless you have a hardware problem. But from what you said it sounds like tipicial glitchy stock Windows Mobile bad behavior.
Also to turn off Swype you have to touch on the little triangle arrow beside the keyboard symbol at the bottom of the keyboard. This will bring up a menu box just select to use the standard keyboard and not Swype.

thanks again.
the problem is the moment the swype key board appears on screen, it becomes stuck. no key works after that. only option is a soft reset. is it safe to do the rom flash by myself? where can i find a detaild guide to do it? and what rom do you recommend? in the htc site i noted that there is a newer update to my stock rom. how would that rom workout?
If HTC has a update ROM for your HD2 I say go for that one first they should have a detailed set of instructions on the site you download it from. Most ofctge update official ROMs are 3.14 ROMs andcthe 3.14 ROMs are alot more stable considering they are stock ROMs. I do recomemd a Energy ROM if you want to try a custom ROM just read through and look at all the screen shots in the first couple of post in the thread that are by the dev of the ROMs and pick Wichita ROM he had there that you like the looks and sound of best. You can most definitely flash the ROMs yourself be it official or custom.

hi
i have installed the new 3.14 rom. seemed ok for one day. but problems are back. when i switch on the phone, the home screen comes on as normal. after i switch to standby mode and try to start phone again the screen stays blank for about 10 minutes. the hard buttons are flashing though. after 5 min, spontaneouly recovers and again problem occurs when switched off and restarts.
any suggestion pls? do u think i should go for a cooked rom? and in which departments do the cooked roms are better than the stock? can the dutties task manager cause this problem? (i hv it installed at the moment.}

Do yourself a big favour & try energy ROM such as Dinik 29017 (my preffered version is 23699)
These ROMs are far more touch friendly, far more stable (yet to need soft reset on my HD2 with Energy Dinik 23699) & you will get great support if needed by reading or posting in the thread.
Have a look & read at link below;

These ROMs are good, make sure you follow instructions & read up on it before flashing.
Get HSPL 2.08 on your HD2 & make sure your radio version is compatible & then flash Energy ROM of your choice ...
Top tip is charge battery 100% before flashing (seem to reduce battery calibration problems & can be of benefit if you run into problems, also a hard reset after custom ROM has completed first boot is good practice.
Also have some patience & give yourself time to adjust to the new ROM, asking a few questions & doing some searching will be far more productive than flashing to another ROM because of a problem.
Good luck & maybe I see you in the Energy ROM thread ...
thanks very much guys.
i got the energy rom installed successfully and already i m loving it. i m so glad i joined the xda community. one more thing pls. are these roms upgraded? how can i watch out for new upgrades, new features to be downladed...etc?

Out of interest which Energy ROM did you install.
You can check for updates by looking at thread & seeing date of latest release, going for latest releases & build numbers does not always give best results. Sometimes old is gold ;-) Best to settle into your current ROM & only update if things you deem important are updated/added.
Have fun with Energy ROM, well set up it makes Android & iphone look limited & outdated & seriously has some useful features Android is missing such as Auto APN setup & organised apps & settings menu & a far more advanced mail app to mention just a few.

Just spending five minutes in reading a bit doesn't hurt you know, but we'll help you:
1- SD Android doesn't overwrite windows, you're actually using SD like a phone memory. when you reset you'll be back to WinMo and will have to run Android again.
2- What's working and not working is always mentioned in the original (first) post of every build. From my brief experience with American Android, Wifi, Camera, and GPS are working, you have to try the other features and let the developer know if something isn't working well for you. make sure to post your whole info: HD2 TMo or EU, Radio, What WinMo you're using (not very helpful but wouldn't hurt writing it anyway), and what Android version have you downloaded.
3- As long as the radio is 2.XX.50.XX you're fine.
check your SPL version though, I've never tried Android with SPL 3.X some say it doesn't work.
4- You can dual boot (or triple or even quadruple boot) Android with windows as long as your multiple android builds support having more than one beside them (and a bit of your luck as well) the program is just a shortcut for you not to use FExplorer to run Android :/ so the answer would be yes.
when you run android and have some problems, you can use search because there are many threads to solve almost every problem you'll have with android, one of them being mine (in my signature).

[Q] NOR vs NAND

Hi , I have HD2 and I want to install android OS on it. I found a lot of solutions on this website like booting from SD Card and NAND solutions, but I have one question. Is there any NOR version installation and in general which is better NOR or NAND ? Sorry for this maybe general question but I need help and I would also wanted to consult with you . Thanks , every help is appreciated.
Hi there mate.!
Never heard anything about the NOR version that you are talking sorry
There are 2 ways to install Android OS in your device and they are posted in sub-forums in here and i think you have already saw them
The SD version is if you don't want to leave wm6.5 but wanna give Android a try!
(thats the easiest way to install it)
And the NAND version if you have decided that you want Android OS in your mobile and ofc Android will have much better performance in NAND than SD
PS: my opinion is if you don't want mw6.5 anymore go read some posts and install the NAND version cause you will have much much more performance
I hope i helped
there are no nor versions, you on about running a version in ram ?
Hi and thanks for a quick reply and more than helpful answers. I need to ask you several more things. Since I want to install NAND version, because of the performance, I need the latest version . I saw several instructions for 2.2 and 2.3 android. Can you give me the link to the 2.3 newest installation link. Also is there any known issue after installation (like no wireless network, or some applications doesn't work...)

As Richy said there are sooo many roms for you to try
The 2.3.5 rom for me is the most stable if you want your phone to work 100% 24/7 with no battery consume!
Now its up to you if you want Sense 2.2 or 3 if you want MIUI or Gingerbeard or or or or or
For me it goes like this :
1:Go to NAND sub-forum
2: Find a good and updated Rom for your mobile (at the front of each title its the release day) enter it and read the full description the dev gives you and to all the steps!!!!
3: for correct use of your wifi,gps,etc.....find a good kernel (Most devs gives you a kernel of their choise with their ROM)
Thats all you need to know...all you have to do is read the hole post carefully
And just an opoinion..if you want a fast and stable (not a fancy one) ROM go for a MIUI and a good one is this Mwakious
and this is Kefir's Kernel
Good luck and if you need anythink PM me
PS: if you think i helped you hit the THANKS button

When the T-Mobile version is mentioned, it is purely indicating that it is a TMOUS HD2 with 1024 MB ROM and the T-Mobile logo on the top. The carrier doesn't matter

Are you sure that carrier doesn't matter , US has different frequencies , and this is T-mobile US (TMOUS). If the carrier doesn't matter ,can I then install in switzerland on orange HD2 according to the procedure for T-Mobile new gignerbread ?
If not can someone give me some links for my HD2 please. I searched NAND 2.3 android but some of the topics are from 2010 and some of them after installation have various types of problems.
Thanks !
Hi there, I was exactly where you were 3 weeks ago. I picked up a second HD2 as my WM HD2 phone is heavily loaded with apps and files etc. and I did not want to risk stuffing it. I played with a couple of versions with HTC Sense but then tried TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 and found it smaller, faster and more stable + much slicker than WM.
After just 3 days and a few new apps like Swype and Wi-Fi tethering, I cut over to droid forever. Next I will do my original HD2 to make it a mirror backup.

As long as you have a TMOUS phone, you can install the T-Mobile US version. As for the Android ROM, have you even looked in the NAND Development forums? There are tonnes of ROMs, none of them even remotely old, which work perfectly. Take Typhoon CM7 or Hyperdroid, for example.

[Q] htc hd2 problem( dual boot)

Sorry to disturb, guys. I m basically a old user of htc hd2. My friend rooted the phone for me. And it is in a state of dual boot. Recently , i found that it is starting to consume a large memory.
So i decided to flash in a new rom only allow android worked.
android version now is 2.3.5. I also cant determine the version of phone.
This phone is bought in singapore.
mod version: cope and warredb present: American Android GB235 CyanogenMod7.1 HTC LEO 080711
I m a very new member and seriously have no idea on what to do with this phone. i know backup before flash.
Alrdy looking at the forum for 6 hours but i still dun have any idea what to do.
*please teach in detail, i really need it*
So, guys please gv recommendation, tanx a lot.
Try out the guide in my sig, it's the easiest to follow in my opinion. This will remove Windows Mobile, and replace it with Android. You'll have to choose a ROM from the NAND Development section first, and adjust the partition sizes mentioned in the guide in accordance with the ROM you want to flash.
