It was suggested that we start a thread specifically for the apps that run well on the Android port to the HTC Touch/Vogue. I personally own an (Sprint=CDMA) HTC Touch Diamond, but upon seeing the maturity level of Android running on the Touch, I immediately went to eBay and picked up the Touch handset...and I am glad I did. The only reason I boot back to winmo is for work calendar (Lotus), Skype (iSkoot kinda sucks), and Podcasts (hopefully we getting DoggCatcher soon).I've found that battery life with Togga on to be about 8-10 hours which I can live with it, but it's a pain to keep toggling if you really need to conserve (but it could be worse )I plan on posting more battery data soon, but need a few more days of collection. Hopefully we can find a more permanent way of managing the data connection with balance for battery life.
You can find many apps on http://slideme.org/, AndAppStore (both have phone clients - very market-like) and by searching ".apk" on 4shared.com
The apps I have found to run well on my CDMA with dzo/f00bar's (much respect) latest files:
-Scoreboard - I'm not that big of a sports fan, but this app is slick!
-aLastFM - Just got permission to post the link from the developer. Thanks Oleg!!
-Stocker - Simple but effective stock app, but no graphs. If someone could find a better one...
-Weather - Simple, but effective. Multiple Cities, current and forecast, with menu link to detailed outlook including radar from Undergroud Weather.
-AnyCut -Great for making shortcuts to just about any screen in the OS, especially useful for Battery and Sounds&Display
-TextEasy - for sending a text to multiple contacts, until someone can get a hold of ChomperSMS or K9SMS (K9Mail I have not gotten to work either, we need a better mail app, the native client doesn't even recognize URLS, wtf?!)
-OIFileManager - It's the only one I've tried, so can't comment on the others, but there are several out there. UPDATE: I tried out Astro and Glance. I liked Astro, but after a day it stopped working for me and gives me a force quit. I prefer Glance over OI FileManager, it's on 4shared I believe.
-OIFlashlight - amazing how handy this comes in
-OINewsReader - No frills RSS aggregator
-ShopSavvy - Did you say "We'll match any price"?...but be fast with your fingers, camera is not fine enough to capture the barcode
UPDATE:
I wanted to add SMS PopUp as another great app. You can find it along with a bunch of other APKs here. One of the G1 owners that grabbed all of the apps and is hosting them for download.
WANTED:
-DoggCatcher - for my daily podcast fix
-A true Skype client
-HEADPHONE SUPPORT!!
Please post replies with your own favorite apps that run well on this port (with links, please!)
Cheers!
Wow, no replies?!
I'm looking for SMS PopUp if anyone can post a link.
Cheers!
The Meebo app is well worth a look - look for it on 4shared.com. Lets you IM on just about any IM network (Yahoo, MSN, AIM etc). IMs appear in the notification bar while you are in any other program. Great stuff.
I believe im the only person hosting the meebo.apk at the moment.
Meebo Instant Messenger:

I did recieve the "ok" from the meebo!
thanks

i installed and signed into my MSN account, however, just a white screen shows up. No list of contacts, etc. No menu options other than to add another account or sign off. Not exactly useful (at least this version). Is anyone using this successfully?
EDIT: I received a chat, and that gave me a buddy online, maybe no one on my list was signed on at the time I first checked.
Also, it doesnt remember your username and password, which is annoying because it randomly closed on me after tapping the notification in the bar during a chat session today. I'll keep looking for a better app or updated version.

you might be the only one who got the 'ok' from meebo but as i said, it can be found on 4shared.com also.
What about an updated version of Shopsavvy. Mine keeps saying there is a new version, but of course we can't update off the marketplace.
I'm looking for the Locale application. Even though we don't have GPS running, Locale still alows profile switching based on time and days of the week, which would be useful for office vs. non-office settings. If someone could post this I would appreciate it!

If they are in the AndroidApps folder then they should be installed already. I found that sometimes icons don't show up to launch the program, however. This is where AnyCut comes in handy. Use AnyCut to search in "Activities" to find your app. If you are not seeing it in this list then you may have to "manually" install the app. Open a file browser such as OI File Manager or Glance and navigate to your AndroidApps folder. Click on the .apk file and it should launch teh app installer.
Hope this helps.

Scoreboard.apk
I am very interested in the Scoreboard app, I got it running fine, but the other day the game I added to my favorite never really gave me updates until the game was over by a few hours.
Isnt this application able to provide real-time results?
I am having more success simply by going to www.nhl.com :-S
Thanks for aLastFM!
I was looking around and found another 4shared user with a bunch of APK's!

Someone in the main topic said something about an ebay app. What is it and is it any good? Is it secure? It'd be nice to have for me.
There's been a couple apps I liked that didn't fit our screen plus having to reinstall android files often I lose all my saved info so it doesn't work out for me. Sprint needs to hurry up with an HTC Android phone.
Maybe a stupid question, not sure... Why can't someone extract the android market application from the G1 to be used on other phones? Seems a bit odd of Google to limit the market to only a specific phone.
There is a discussion about the marketplace on the big long forum. The marketplace is not open source. They're talking about the commands and encryption and such for it. I'd think it's not open because they plan on having pay for apps but I could be wrong
G1 Central
This is a must have for any one with a Grand Central account- G1 Central
http://evancharlton.com/projects/g1central
Allows you to place calls and check voicemail for your GrandCentral account. Pretty much allows for unlimited free calling. Works great on my friends G1.
Still missing a few features.. like the ability to call contacts that are only in your GC account, but still very good.
Heres the problem.. it crashes when trying to dial out on the Vogue!!! Ahhh!
So close to beating the telecoms... If anyone knows anything about error codes or how to get this working, I might have a GrandCentral account invite...

I noticed this also. i resolved by changing my time zone in settings. Only problem is that this then modifies your "synced" time with your carrier, it adjusts + or - according to your time zone, so you have to comensate...each time you boot. Not by any means an elegant solution, but if you need realtime scores this is the answer. Probably better off sticking with NHL.com

I tried the "Ebay.apk" from 4Shared, but it doesn't display properly. The tabs extend all the way to the bottom of the other screen which is a common problem for us vogue port users.
Just got my phone last week. Trying to get it configured to my liking.
I keep having to resort bookmarks when I add a new bookmark, restart the browser, or power up the phone. Can anyone confirm if this is the norm on this device? I've tried resetting the browser to default with no change. This is driving me nuts. Great phone otherwise. Thank-you
there is an app in the market that will let you sort your bookmarks in any order. you can also save the bookmarks on your sd card with the app. it's called:
Bookmark Sort & Backup
Re: Sorting Bookmarks
This will work for my needs. I was hoping maybe mine was just faulty as I dislike using apps for something the phone "should" be capable of doing. But yeah, I did buy the ad free app version. Thank you so much for your suggestion.
Yep... This bugged the heck out of me too, especially the way I had to re-sort every time I went into the browser. More annoying was the way it made the full-screen HTC Widget bookmark (which I love, and find is the best and quickest way to get to my favorite sites) always be ordered by most recently added too!
Thankful for Bookmarks S&B, it really solved the issue. Hoping any future Inc updates though will fix this issue. I did notice on the HTC EVO, which is pretty similar when it comes to browser and widgets, didn't exhibit the problem within the browser... if you sorted alphabetically it would stay like that, but it DID exhibit the issue within the widget.
My issue is related to this, but not exactly the same. I just recently got a replacement Incredible, and I want to transfer my bookmarks off my old Incredible to my new Incredible. I've tried to find where the bookmarks file is located via Astro but am unable to locate it. Do I need root to do this? Or am I just not looking in the right place? Any other alternatives?
Someone else will most likely chime in with something simpler. But the way I transferred my bookmarks from myTouch to Incredible was with Backup Pro. I backup everything I need on there, minus contacts.
I'd like to see the ability to create folders like, News, Sports, Technical and put bookmarks in them rather than just have a flat list of bookmarks.
Seems strange not to have what is a common feature in the browser.
SubMatrix, I didn't have any luck backing up my bookmarks with BookmarkSB Pro. It kept giving me an error. It would certainly be a cheaper alternative if it works. I couldn't find anything that says whether you have to be rooted or not.
As for sorting into folders or similar, I believe the solution for that is probably right around the corner. Bookmark-Tree may help something like that.
Try xmarks been using it for pc/droid sync

First off, I'm brand new to Android development so please bear with me.
My only goal at this point is to add the ability to choose the notification LED color to the Android 2.2 stock mail app (on the Droid). I've searched all over the place and haven't found an existing solution for this yet.
It seems to me like it should be super easy to add this functionality to the stock mail app. I can already choose my sound and vibrate settings, why not the LED color? Toss in some notification.ledARGB = something (plus the few other lines of code to make it work), a list to choose the color and we're good to go.
My problem, though, is I have no idea where to begin to have access to the code of the stock mail app. I would guess it goes something like:
1. Download the apk
2. Somehow open the source
3. Make the changes I need
4. Turn it back into a useable apk
5. Swap out the existing apk with my new modified one on the phone
I really only care about making this work on my own phone, so I'm not worried about signing the apk with a public cert or anything. I'm rooted as well, so no worries there.
Anyone have any insight? If I basically have the right plan of attack, and advice on the specifics? If I'm totally wrong in my approach, any advice on what I should be doing would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help!
I think this app is a part of AOSP, so you don't have to decompile an apk - grab sources and build them.
Well, that certainly makes sense. Just did some digging, and I found a pile of info about getting the source, git, repo, etc.
Naturally I'm a windows user, so it looks like I'll need to get some linux up and running to actually do anything with the source code. Ubuntu is installing as we speak....
Any tips on what to do next for a newbie like me?
Should I follow all the directions to get Eclipse ready to develop on the linux box?
Do I just need to download the Email.git to do what I want?
What do I do with the Email.git once I've gotten it?
Just gonna give this a little bump. I've got my linux box all set up and i've got the entire android source downloaded. I'm not really sure where to go from here, though.
How do I just modify and compile the email app into an apk? Thanks for any forthcoming handholding, guys.
I could use some help from someone here in the Droid 2 forums with something. A co-worker of mine has a Droid 2 and I finally got her to let me root it because she wants something I have on my phone (I use T-Mo with a Samsung Vibrant). She does not want to delve into the realm of installing custom ROMs just yet, so I won't just flash her to something else where this might be easier.
There is a thread over in the Evo 4G forum where pongolo was able to figure out how to bypass the Exchange security for requiring a PIN/Password when unlocking the phone.
I was able to modify the apk for my phone with no problems. I'm just a little confused when it comes to the Droid 2. I'm assuming that the BlurEmail.apk and the BlurEmailEngine.apk are the two I should be looking at to try to do the same thing. I expected some obvious differences in the smali files, but I am not sure I am looking at what is needed to duplicate this for her phone.
The smali file I am looking at is ActiveSyncPolicySettingService.smali between lines 66 and 89. Reason I am looking at this file is I cannot a SecurityPolicy.smali in any of the various apks I have decompiled.
Anyone familiar with this or can help me work through it?
Haven't been able to get this working. None of the changes I have made allowed it to work the way I wanted it to. This is getting put on my back burner for now. If someone here can shed some light, I would be appreciative.
Any one have any ideas? I haven't been able to figure this out yet.
In case anyone was curious. I may have figured this out, but won't be able to test until tomorrow. The co-worker has been off sick. I'll update if it worked or not and either post directions on how to modify or just throw the modified apk up.
With corporate sync there's usually a good reason for the security. You could potentially be endangering her job... just sayin...
That being said, its a setting in the exchange account, and motoblur uses a seperate corporate sync app from the standard one. I think your best bet (if, and only if, her company is ok with it) would be a custom rom that uses the original blurless app (like liberty... for instance).

We're part of the group that helps to enforce security policy - particularly with the phones (not worried about her or myself getting in trouble for this - there are perks for being the support people and in the right groups ).
She is not adventurous enough to go for a custom rom just yet (took me nearly a year for me to convince her to let me root one of her phones).
Any insight on which smali file(s) in the BlurEmail.apk or BlurEmailEngine.apk that may need to be modified for a similar result?

I know this is an old thread, but I did this a long time ago and totally forgot how to do it when I reinstalled a new rom. So I tried to do this again, this is with an Atrix not the Droid but it should be pretty similiar. This time I did it to a deodexed version so I don't remember exactly how you to it with an odex file. Because I didn't feel like finding the framework files, i skipped apk-tool for this first part and just used baksmali right on the BlurEmailEngine.apk. For the GB atrix the file was com

Extracted the apk files, deleted classes.dex, added the out.dex from the smali'ing, renamed to classes.dex, zipped the apk, then zipaligned. Then use whatever method you want to backup the orignal and add the unsignedBlurEmailEnginer.apk to /system/app and fix the permissions. I renamed it also, but I don't think you have to. Hopefully that helps someone (and reminds me next time).
Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on the A500 have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, be sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,
others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
Why is this functionality useful?
Privacy - the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.
Testing - if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.
Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.
Speed - the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.
Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.
Market link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.switchme
The Lite version allows the creation of two profiles, enough to test on.
Screens:
So far so good. I'm using ezterry's simple stock rom that has root. I've been able to switch between profiles without any problems. The only thing that I've noticed that was strange happened to the app Full Screen Launcher. After the first switch from my original profile to my new profile and then back to original. My folders, shortcuts widgets and anything, other than what was there as default when the app was first launched on the desktop disappeared. This only happened on the first switch. Once I added the shortcuts and stuff back and then tried again the were as they should be. So that's really not an issue. Gameloft games that are moved to sd card via GL to SD from the Market seem to work as well.
Is there anything specific that you want checked? I'd give a few things a shot if you have something in mind. So far, I can't find anything wrong with my setup. And the app is pretty neat. Kinda cool having a fresh tablet to play with. It's even neater that I can just switch back to my profile with all of my junk.
Just what i've been looking for, will test tonight
Device Iconia A500 16gb

Anything at all?
Its working perfectly here! Thank for this awesome app!
it's working great for me also. sometimes keyboard will lag when needing to put in password from lock screen. once I get my alarmed dismissed in the morning, I'm really awake;-) Also, is there a way to make the key work for all users? I'm unable to access the lock screen settings from other user logins.

It wont work forever! Not unless you have the same account in the two profiles. In any case, we are working on it, so the switch screen will be accessible to all profiles with one key!
hi,
I've a Liberty Tab, rooted and running Acer Stock Rooted ROM.
I'm installed your app soon after root and it works flawlessly.

Hello! There will be a new build which gives lockscreen access to everyone very soon!
Any comments on the new switch screen?
