Two questions about dl30 - Fascinate General

Since installing dl30 I noticed that if you go into notification setting gs it has a spot where you can turn on blink led for notification but it doesn't seem to work. Anyone know anything about this and also I noticed that at first when I sent and recievex a te,t message i would get a little toast popup at the bottom but it recently stopped showing up. Anyone know anything about this either I want itback.

There isn't any led lights for the fascinate. There are apps though that will put dufferent colored dots on your screen when you have a notification. It looks like the screen us off but a little colored dot will float around. I dont know the ansrew to your second question.

You have to have a BLN enabled Kernal to be able to use the app.

The apps worked fine. They just kinda suck.

Unfortunately the area you believed contained an LED unfortunately houses a sensor for light instead It was the exact same issue on the Samsung Moment. They heard enough complaining about it then, surprised they didn't get the hint. And IMHO, the blinking LED would save battery life, as I'm sure having to turn on the screen and check every ten min. drains it.

DK28, The Good And Bad

Even though its certain this isn't the official release, I thought we should condense the topics and just post the your thoughts about the good and bad features this update provides.
Ill start..dk28 isn't that awful for me like others. The only problems I've noted was samsung widgets disappearing sometimes, home screen rotation lag, and a few checkers showing up in the browser when zooming in and out.
However, on the bright side, flash is very smooth, and there are better icons

GPS fubared?
No notification when charging usb
Hey guys i recently started having a problem with the back button.it will pick up half the time and then its unresponsive the time any ideas on what i can do?
Probably just lag. Which way did you flash dk28?
Btw, I came up with some other things.
1. Notfications are delayed (ex. Handcents icons in the top bar are sometimes delayed)
2. Keyboard delayed (its actually a bit worse than before)
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
*Keyboard/touchscreen/captivate button lag/failure to register action/press
*Streaming music skips (last.fm) while doing anything else; like browsing the web.
*Slow orientation change
*No lineout on multimedia dock yet
*None of the unicorns and rainbows flying out of the screen that were promised by the legion of unrelenting froyo fanboys littering this forum for the past month.

Same here, I guess a few of us got lucky. Just very small things such as checker boarding. I don't have homescreen lagg though, or widgets that disappear.

GPS actually finally works for me with the update, I'm getting signal indoors in places I hadn't previously and it has yet to time out and require me to reflush the agps data or reboot the phone (used it all day today for work).

Not seeing this one either, lets me know right away though the notification bar as per usual.
However I am experiencing one very odd piece of behavior, If I open the phone to show the keyboard, turn off the screen and leave it sitting ... the keyboard LED blinks constantly. I'm not sure if it's an app of mine conflicting or froyo itself but it's fairly annoying.

I personally went back to 2.1, rock solid and stable.
On 2.2, Screen rotation is slow as molasses, GPS is stuck on my work location and would not work at all in updating. Browser was a bit slower compared to 2.1. Hated the scattered, non-alphabetical applications folder, wtf?!!
I enjoyed the 2.2 leak but the little niggles weren't enough to stay on it.
I did like the coloured menus, and the ability to turn off 3G when holding the power button for a few secs.
I keep getting errors when connecting to Wifi. I will look down at the phone and wifi will be off even though i never turned it off, and then the notification toggle wont do anything, and when I go into settings to enable it, it says "error" underneath the Wifi entry. Then it takes a few tries to get it connected again.
I do like where Froyo is headed, but this is absolutely no where near polished enough for final release.
Edit: Having a fully working GPS is awesome though. 2 meter accuracy = Awesome.
Does anyone else have lag when trying to adjust brightness on the notification bar?

I've noticed since 2.2 that when a caller hangs up, I get a single beep in my bluetooth earpiece confirming that the call has ended, which I like...didn't have any sound before that.
Anyone else having trouble hanging up during a phone call? I hit the damn End button at least 3-4 times before it decides to hang up.
I must be one of the lucky few, everything works great, and not only that it fixed all the issues I had with the previous 2.1 build. I've tried out just about everything I can think of wifi, gps, 4g, pandora, etc.
edit: Should add, I did a factory reset after I installed it, wiped everything the only bit I loaded back in was contacts.

Give the phone a few secs after the screen comes back on then press it. Works fine; if you immediately press it.. it doesn't hangup. Seems intentional..
Umm.. aside from no GPS now which I plan to fix by reflashing di18 then 2.2... I don't find any major problems. The keyboard does have a bit of a registration flaw but not too major..
The leds do light up whenever the screen is off.
And I don't think the brightness sensor likes my room light because it enjoys changing itself a bit.

I have noticed the Sammy widget thing and the slow screen rotations but I was intrigued by your bug. So I tried it. Definitely happened. I wouldn't say 'blinks constantly' though. At least not in my case. It flashed on for about 2-3 seconds every 30 or so seconds. Maybe even as long as a minute. Caught me off guard. I watched it for a bit then went back to reading this thread only to have it happen out of the corner of my eye.

Woah, just tried it. I had similar results. However, I opened the keyboard, let the flash disappear, then 2-3 seconds later it came back. And stayed there too, for about a minute or so!
Not really a big deal in my opinion; I honestly don't use the keyboard often due to its laginess..

[Q] Burned LED flash light?

I've looked around to see if there was a post about this and didn't see it. This is my problem, I was using my phone yesterday as a flashlight for like about 5 minutes when my light just started to dim little by little until it turned off. So, did I just burned my led flash? If so, is there a way to fix or do I just call it in to insurance? Thanks.
Not sure..leds generally flicker before the burn out. They are also rated to handle long cycles....so five minutes should be easy. Bt the circuitry could be burned out. Sounds like this might be a warranty issue.
I did it all from my Nookie...
This same thing just happened to me last night. What happened in your situation?
You arent supposed to leave the app on for over a minute or so. it can burn it out, and/or mess up your whole phone. it can overheat your phone. i would see if there are any other problems with it, and get it returned.

Hmmmm.. I don't think this is right. With my myTouch slide, I have successfully had it on for slightly over 15 mins with no damage what so ever. Maybe this one was defective. Otherwise, even on stock rom, the flashlight app wouldn't be there. But I don't know. Maybe like I said, it was defective. Thanks anyways.
Just came from the Zinx CM7 thread where he is warning the torch mode can burn out your LEDs.

I had this problem on my Google Nexus 5X (on stock rom) and I changed it, to bunch of different ROMs and the flash worked on everyone, currently I've got it on some *android 12 AOSP without gapps something like that, maybe you could try to (unlock the bootloader) and then (flash TWRP *custom recovery*) and then go into TWRP and wipe your operating system then flash your choosen custom ROM then see if it works. Also I see that you have gotten one from warranty, that's great! I hope this helps other people, and you also get some new features with those custom ROMs! Or just update your outdated device upto 4 or more version ahead of when it got discontinued, * I'm sending from my LG G8 currently, that I got to try to mod, but cant figure out how to unlock the bootloader, but that's fine its my main device rn, I have a Google pixel 6 pro for that and the Google Nexus 5X )))

Need help with official 2.2 problems

I just picked up the Streak today from Best Buy. Once I saw the $50.00 price and realized I could update to 2.2 right away, it was a no brainer, so I thought....
I am actually digging the Streak, if I can get a few things worked out. I am coming from the Captivate which I just recently upgraded to Froyo. I actually love the Captivate now that it has 2.2. I just love the screen size of the Streak more!
FWIW, it looks like the Froyo that I installed is not the AT&T version. I dont see any of their bloatware. Is this good or bad?
The problems I am encountering with the Streak are, backlit buttons do not light up when touching the screen. They only light up when I touch them, which defeats the purpose of backlighting. I also dont see any provisions for mobile AP or tethering. I thought that, even though they may be locked, that they are part of Froyo and should be there? Same with "power widget"??? that is normally above the pull down notification window? You know, where you turn on/off GPS, WIFI, bluetooth? I don't have it. The other thing that came with Froyo on the Captivate but not on the Streak was the Task Manager. Should that be there?
After updating and setting up most everything, it started getting a little buggy. Screen orientation was doing weird things and locking up. Wifi seemed real slow, after being super quick. I went ahead and did a factory reset and I am still having the same issues. I have not noticed any orientation issues YET. BTW I have never rooted a device. I am not against doing it if it fixes things but I prefer to stay stock. Any help is greatly appreciated.
It probably is stock 340 if you did the ota update which is at&t version of froyo for the streak. If you want to tether try barnacle always worked for me. You will have to sideload it because at&t blocks some apps in the market. When i had my captivate i learned a nifty lil trick you can put your phone in airplane mode then turn on wifi go search the market for the at&t blocked app and it would show up worth a try. The power widget on the phone long hold the screen and check widgets.recalibrate your screen that will help don't realy know how to post links so (search, search, search) everything you need to know can be found here on xda its the best site ever hope that helps you some. Remember search i cant stress enough how important it is. Alot of smart people on here i learn something new on xda everyday.
I came from a captivate....
the buttons in the drop down are part of samsung touchwiz and not android itself.
you can get the same desired effect with more buttons using Power Control Plus.
Thanks guys for your help. How about the backlit buttons that don't light up when touching the screen? Is that normal? Also, can the haptc feedback be lowered?
I just turn the feedback off i havent really paid any attention to the lights but i will now. if u root just use superoneclick v1.7 works great just get the right dell drivers.
There is only 3 buttons, so it isn't difficult to memorize where they are after 2 days of use.. I personally like the buttons off...
Dell's version of froyo does not have alot of the features that the Samsung roms have. There is no vibrate intensity setting, no font changing setting (use font changer from market).
I just got 2.2.2 loaded and that has the option to make a sound when you unlock the streak.
You sacrifice a few options with the streak, but it is rock solid stable and doesn't need any tweaks besides spare parts windows and transition options set to fast. so it is lightening fast.
I think I have found the problem. It looks like the light sensor is bad or a software issue that is causing the sensor not to work. On auto brightness it does nothing. I called Dell and they confirmed that the buttons should light up when the screen is touched. and that it is likely a defective sensor. I am going to return it for a new one. On a positive note, the screen had been running at only 1/4 brightness. Display looks MUCH better now that I have turned up the brightness a bit.

NO LED on Nexus S from Sprint

My wife got the nexus S from sprint the other day and her first complaint is that there is no LED for notifications ...
is there any hack or application that would maybe make the capacitive buttons on the bottom flash for notifications?
There's an app called Backlight Notification that has been tested on I9020T, I9020A and I9023. I don't know if it works on the Sprint variant of the Nexus S 4G. It does require root and a custom kernel.

Noled doesn't need root or custom setup. Play around with the settings, you will find that it will give you more information than just a led would. It's especially cool to enable battery percent while charging. You never have to wake up the phone to know the progress. There are quite a few things it does that would be a waste for me to type it all out. After you get all the settings the way you like it, set it for start at boot then reboot the phone and you're good to go!

Voodoo controls sound and screen settings (gamma, rgb multipliers).
I ran BLN on both CFS and BFS. I'm on CFS now because I think it's more stable (Overclocked to 1.2ghz with smartass set). Test notification DOES NOT WORK. You have to enable BLN blinking or whatever it says and then I unchecked when it starts and stops and set the blink rate to what I wanted to.
Had my phone for 2 days now and I'm already feeling like I can do this in my sleep! Let me know if you need help.

I had it set to the default 1 sec on and off. I changed it to your settings and it still doesn't work. There must be something else going on.
Is there anywhere I have to select the apps that it is monitoring?
Nope, the only thing I had to enable was to blink for missed calls.

Weird. You have more settings in that screen shot that I do. What version? Just got mine a few hours ago. It received two updates and is on nmi81c
Nevermind it is getting an update that adds that now
I'm on NMI81C too. So that explained why I don't see those extra settings either. I only see "Pulse Notification Light" and "Battery Charging Light". I'm wondering what does "Pulse Notification Light" mean?
BTW, when did you get your update?

Well, today I found the LED notification does exist but not consistent. I saw the LED lights up and flash slowly (very slow!) for some applications and sometimes. It does not always light up for the the same application as my Nexus 6P did before. It looks like the ROM needs some work.

The Essential phone most definitely has a notification light. It's hidden under the left-most portion of the tiny speaker grill. You'll only notice it when you have a notification or it's charging.
It has multiple colors. I've seen blinking blue for notifications, green for charging and I think red for low battery, if I remember correctly.

It has multiple colors. I've seen blinking blue for notifications, green for charging and I think red for low battery, if I remember correctly.

You are absolutely correct. The LED light works fine when changing. But as for notification, it does not work persistently. For the same app, sometimes it worked but the other times it didn't. Also for some other apps they never worked. (Those apps have notifications and worked well on my old Nexus 6p, like Textra, Facebook, etc.)
Another thing I found is that the blink interval seems to be too long.

Same here, running Oreo beta and Light Flow. No issues.
